Program & Services Objectives Recreational Sports programs offer the opportunity to develop movement and sport specific skills to enable participants to have the confidence to be active for life. Programs provide an opportunity for participants to develop friendships with their peers and interaction with caring adults. Programs are built around the Canadian Sport for Life's Long-Term Athlete Development framework which positively guide participant experience in sport and physical activity from infancy through all phases of adulthood. Staff also focus on Physical Literacy. Physical Literacy is the development of fundamental movement skills and fundamental sport skills that permit a participant to move confidently and with control in a wide variety of physical activity, rhythmic (dance) and sport situations. Physical Literacy also includes the ability to “read” what is going on around them in an activity setting and react appropriately to those events. Physical literacy gives participants the tools they need to take part in physical activity and sport, both for healthy life-long enjoyment and for sporting success and is a key component of Canada’s LongTerm Athlete Development LTAD) program. 21
