HOW DO WE SERVE? Home-based program objectives:
3 To support infants and young children
in reaching their own optimal level of development through an integrated approach to child development and familycentred services that is parent/caregiverled and is responsive to parent/caregiver strengths, priorities and competencies.
INFANT AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Infant and Child Development is a Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) funded program offered by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes.
WHO DO WE SERVE? The Infant and Child Development Program serves children from birth to school entry. A child is eligible to receive services until as early as junior kindergarten entry or up to grade one entry, if the child does not attend kindergarten. This service is available to all families living in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
3 To provide support for the family unit
in developing their own abilities to plan, problem solve and advocate for their child.
3 To encourage the development of
cognitive, social, language and gross and fine motor skills.
3 Using an interdisciplinary and
collaborative approach, working with other community programs and agencies to provide the greatest opportunity for optimal development of the child and family.
Committed to supporting families and promoting healthy child and family development.
HOW DO YOU MAKE A REFERRAL? To make a referral to the program call, fax, email or send a written referral. Infant and Child Development is a confidential program provided at no cost. Program participation is voluntary with the focus on a family-centred approach. Any parent, caregiver, doctor, public health nurse, community agency or concerned individual can make a referral with proper consent.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? An Infant and Child Development Support Worker will contact you and arrange a home visit to meet you. A discussion about your child’s development will help you to identify early goals. Through a family-centred service model, the program will focus on building the capacity of the parent/caregiver to nurture and enhance the child’s wellbeing and development. The Support Worker will provide services within the child’s daily environment and build upon the family’s usual routines. Parents and caregivers are active participants in the planning and visits. The Support Worker will provide coaching, consultation and support to parents/caregivers in other ways such as helping them access and coordinate with other relevant community services, where appropriate. The focus is on developing motor, language, social and problem solving skills. Children may be followed by the Infant and Child Development Program until school entry. Discussion regarding the need for ongoing supports will take place at that time.
