Patchway Community College

P

ATCHWAY Community College saw its English results improve strongly, despite national changes to GCSEs. The percentage of students achieving A* to C grades in the subject rose to 67 per cent, with 53 per cent obtaining A* to Cs in maths. High achievers were Charlie Bennett with seven A*s and four As, Harry Edwards with five A*s and five As, Chloe Hinett with three A*s, a distinction* and four As, and Liam Hopwood with five A*s, a distinction* and five A*s. The school’s head teacher Jane Millicent said: “It has been fantastic to see students opening their results and enjoying their success. It was particularly pleasing to see English results improve strongly, despite all of the national changes. “Students have overwhelmingly obtained the grades they need to continue to the next stage of their education and have all taken their first important step towards future success. “The results were a testament to the hard work of staff and students alike, where, for the first time in many years, students had to take all of their exams in one sitting.”

St Brendan’s Sixth Form College

S

T Brendan’s Sixth Form College, which offers GCSE courses in English, maths and biology, is celebrating another year of great results. Most students on courses at the college have previously failed or achieved lower than a C grade in these subjects after five years at school. In the case of biology students normally take it at St Brendan’s after discovering that they need a science GCSE in order to progress further along their chosen education or career pathway. The college’s vice principal Maddy Woolfenden said: “Many of our students have enjoyed success at GCSE with an overall college achievement of 98 per cent in the three subjects on offer. 57 students achieved a grade C or higher in English and 47 students achieved a grade C or higher in mathematics. “GCSE biology delivered over two years in most institutions but in just one year at St Brendan’s, has enjoyed a 57 per cent success rate – this is a great achievement for the staff and students after just nine months of teaching.”

Fairfield High School FAIRFIELD High School is celebrating GCSE success across a broad range of subjects. Performance was exceptional in maths this year with two thirds of students gaining C grades or above. The entire year group took the English literature exam and 69 per cent achieved passes at A* to C. Nearly half the students sat at least one language exam and the school notched up excellent pass rates of 100 per cent in German and Arabic and 97 per cent in French. All languages saw at least 80 per cent success. Humanities and arts were also strong, with pass rates of 80 per cent for geography and sociology, 80 per cent for art and design and 96 per cent for drama. Physics students achieved a 100 per cent pass rate. The school was pleased to maintain its rising good results over recent years and to keep up its record of adding value for students over their five years at Fairfield. Provisional figures show around 70 per cent of students achieving at least five A* to C passes, with a high number of A* and A grades recorded. Among the high performers were the head girl, Niamh Hunt, who achieved six A*s, two As, a B and a distinction and Ethan Kendall, who gained four A*s, three As, two Bs and a merit. Catriona Mangham, the school’s head teacher, said: “I am incredibly proud that all the hard work that students and staff have put in over the past five years has paid off with

these fantastic results across the board. “All our students achieved at least one GCSE A*-C and with nearly half attaining one at A* or A shows that FHS is once again challenging its students to achieve the very best they can.”

ORDANO School in Portishead produced the best set of maths grades in its history. In a year where results have been forecast to be more turbulent across the country, 77 per cent of students achieved five or more passes at A* to C, with 67 per cent gaining five or more passes at A* to C grade including maths and English. For the first time maths results surpassed the 80 per cent threshold at C grade. Thirty four students achieved eight or more A* and A grades, including Helen Fairs, 16, who walked away with 11A*s and one A. Other high performers included Lewis Cheetham and Sinead Golding who achieved eight A*s and three A grades. Sinead, 16, of Portisead, who plans to stay on at Gordano to do A-levels and eventually wants to go to university to study psychology, said: “The exams were hard work but worth it in the end. I had spent a of time revising. My mum, who works as a teaching assistant at Gordano, was more nervous than me about picking up the results.” Lewis Cheetham picked up his top results despite being hospitalised with a stomach infection, which meant he missed an exam. IX students recorded straight A*s at GCSE at The Red Maids’ School – one up from last year. The top six were among more than two thirds of Red Maids’ GCSE pupils to get the top A* or A grades. Furthermore, 89 per cent of all entries gained A*, A or B grades. The independent school for girls demonstrated particular strength in further mathematics, with all 12 students gaining an A* grade, including four who earned the AQA exam board’s additional accolade of A* with distinction. The school’s headmistress Isabel Tobias said: “These are exceptional results and I am thrilled for our students and teachers who worked so hard to achieve them. Red Maids’ is known as a school that delivers very high academic achievement. “All the students have worked really hard and are starting to get an idea of what they want to do now and I want to see them fulfil their dreams. “It is sad to see them go, but we are delighted for every single one of them.” The six Red Maids’ students to earn the ultimate reward of straight A*s in all their subjects were Alice Hyde, Alice Matthews, Lily Rivers, Kate Seaborne, Rachel Stratton and Isla Waring. They each sat 10 or 11 examinations including a wide range of optional subjects such as Latin, art, PE, history, modern foreign languages, further maths, music, geography and religious studies. This achievement qualifies them to join the Red Maids’ sixth form scholar programme.

Cotham School said: “I would like to congratulate our GCSE students on achieving some of the very best ever GCSE results. Their overall results can only be described as fantastic. They are a lovely cohort of young people and really deserve to have done this well but I know that it is because of their dedication and effort as well as that of their teachers and parents. They have all been very focused upon progressing into our sixth form, the North Bristol Post 16 Centre, and have worked very hard to achieve these top grades that will stand them in such good stead when they apply to the top universities.”

HE fourth sister from the same family to attend St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School led the way in its GCSE success this summer. Julia Lee, who was awarded 10 A*s, bettered the grades of her sisters Gisela, 24, Stella, 21, and Camilla, 18, who picked up an A* and two As at A-level at the school’s sixth form earlier this month. Julia also plans to study at the sixth form, taking A-levels in maths, biology, chemistry and history. She said: “I had no idea I would get grades as good as I did. For a career I would like to do something to do with science-related dentistry.” Of the changes made to GCSEs this year, she added: “I found GCSEs really hard. When I looked at the past papers my sisters had taken, they were easier.” Overall, 71 per cent of students at the school got five A* to C grades including English and maths. A third of grades achieved were A* or A, with 57 per cent of the grades being B or above. The school’s head teacher Elisabeth Gilpin said: “It is a delight to see so many students excel in a wide range of subjects. “We have 25 students who have at least five A*s. “We really believe in helping every young person find their talent and inspiration for learning. “We are also very proud of several amazing young people who have achieved against the odds through tough personal circumstances. At SMRT what matters to us is every young person fulfilling their full potential.”

Clifton High School

A

FTER an excellent set of A-levels, Clifton High School followed suit by posting great GCSE results. It was its first set of GCSE results since becoming a co-educational school and adopting the “Diamond Model” of education in 2009. Alison Neill, head of the school, said: “As with our A-levels last week, our GCSE students have achieved an outstanding set of results which reflect the brilliance of our school, our ethos and our students. I am delighted that CHS students have achieved more A* and A grades than ever.” Almost 30 per cent of students achieved all A* or A grades, with nearly 10 per cent of candidates achieved straight A* grades. Dr Neill said: “I am delighted with the results. “Academically our students have surpassed our expectations and are the proof that our unique approach to education, through the Diamond Model really does work. “Despite what many “experts” say, our girls’ perfor mance at GCSE was most certainly not reduced by having boys in the class. “The boys have capitalised on this experience, working with young women and a number have achieved as many as seven grades higher than predicted across all of their subjects.” GCSE achievements were particularly impressive in mathematics and the three sci-

LOSE to half of all GCSE grades achieved at Bristol Grammar School were A*s, continuing a trend of high performance. Some 77 students – two thirds of the entire year group – achieved eight or more A* or A grades whilst 18 of them secured at least ten straight A*s, or better. A group of ten students achieved the added distinction of scoring 100 per cent overall in one of their GCSEs. There was strong performance across the 27 different GCSE subjects offered at BGS, including STEM subjects – where over 90 of grades in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and design technology were between

A* to B - and the arts, where drama, dance and music all enjoyed 100 per cent A* to B performance. Performance in the exam hall has been combined with impressive levels of co-curricular achievement in sport, drama and music, some of which has been at national standard. The school’s headmaster Roderick MacKinnon said: “There is no doubt these results are exceptional and I am delighted for our young people who have worked so hard to achieve them. There is also a pleasing consistency, year on year, in the standards our students attain and this goes against the commonly rehearsed suggestion that the ability of students to achieve the top grades is declining.”

● Clifton High School pupils celebrate ences. Students with particular cause for celebration were Eliza Raffle, Emma Hallam-Worrall and Hannah Smyk, who all achieved straight A* grades across all of their subjects.

ALLOONS were released when delighted pupils picked up their GCSE results at Ashton Park School – a stone’s throw away from the Balloon Fiesta site. Students and teachers were celebrating record results which rose to 58 per cent A* to C grades including English and maths. Over 200 balloons rose above the school with tags saying “I am a success” for each student. Pupils had begun opening their envelopes at 10am in the school hall before filtering out into the rain in front of the school entrance where the balloons were let go accompanied by cheers. The school’s head teacher Tessa Thomas said the results “came as no surprise”. She said: “We work hard at Ashton Park School to be inspirational in the classroom, we have been persistent in raising standards over the last few years and have developed a strong community based on mutual resect. “Every single achievement is value – we are proud to be fully inclusive. “We expect to exceed these figures next year – Ashton Park School is on the up and these results are evidence that it’s not just hot air and head teacher rhetoric.” She added: “The students have worked hard and with determination individually and collectively supporting one another to achieve their absolute best. The staff have worked relentlessly to support and inspire our students to believe that they can at least realise their expectations and in many cases exceed them. I would also like to thank the parents for their support and commitment.”

Redland Green School REDLAND Green School’s head teacher praised her pupils for excelling in the face of major changes being made to GCSEs this year. Overall, 90 per cent of students achieved five or more A* to C grades, with 55 per cent of students achieved 5 or more A* or A grades – the highest percentage in the history of the school. An impressive 82 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades including English and maths. The school said the “outstanding attainment” reflected the hard work of our students, staff and the excellent support students receive from their families. Four students got 11 straight A* grades. Regardless of starting points, students of all abilities significantly exceeded expected rates

of progress in both maths and English. Sarah Baker, the school’s head, said: “This cohort has borne the brunt of significant changes to both curriculum and assessment, introduced with immediate effect after the start of their GCSE courses. “These changes placed a great strain upon students’ emotional health and well-being at such an important time in their lives. The outstanding results achieved by students, under such difficult circumstances, is a testament to their resilience and the support they have received from staff at the school, their families and their peers. “Naturally, this situation is not unique to Redland Green School and I would like to congratulate the young people across Bristol and our colleagues across the city for all their hard work and achievements.”

Orchard School Bristol Bs in English and science. He is going to Redland Green to study maths, further maths, psychology and art. Daniella Lynch, who is going on to practice hair and make-up at SGS College, gained two As, four Bs and five Cs, including maths, English and science. Forty-five percent of Year 11 students achieved A* to C in English and maths, and 44 percent achieved five A* to C GCSE grades including English and maths. Helen Holman, the school’s head, said: “There have been some fantastic individual triumphs this year, with the majority of our students going off to study at their chosen college. “It’s also important that we recognise the progress that pupils have made since Key Stage 2. “We’re absolutely delighted and thrilled – a huge well done Year 11.”

PUPILS at Orchard School Bristol celebrated some fantastic successes in their GCSE results. The school is delighted that results have matched its best ever grades. There were personal successes aplenty, with one pupil, Jake Winter, achieving three A*s, eight As, one B with a distinction in IT. Jake is off to Redland Green in September to study maths, further maths, chemistry and physics, alongside a Cambridge access course. The school said the results were to Jake’s credit, and were down to his hard work. He said: “I’m really happy about all of my grades, especially those in science and maths – I didn’t really know what to expect.” Balazs Szert, who moved to Bristol from Hungary, could only speak a small amount of English when he joined Orchard School during Year 10. The school’s head teacher Andrea Arlidge said: “I am delighted for our students and their families. These results reflect the hard work of our students and staff and I am very proud of their achievements. “It was a delight to see so many happy, excited faces this morning and to know that the overwhelming majority of students have secured high quality placements in our sixth form or other similar institutions. “It gives us great pleasure to know that we have supported such wonderful development and growth so that our students are now ready to take on the challenge of adult life and further study. “One of the traits of this cohort of students was that they were a very hard working group, both in and out of lessons, and this led to them making significant progress and, for many, exceeding their targets grades.”

This year saw 67 per cent of students gain five GCSEs at A*-C including maths and English. The school’s head teacher Chris Wade said: “The students and staff have worked so hard this year and thoroughly deserve the

brilliant improvements to results. “To move our A* to C in both English and maths to 67 per cent is a great achievement.” Individual top results included Jonathan Howe gaining seven A* and four A grades, Ann Dumbell and Alex George both gaining eight A*s and Jess Simmons collecting seven A*s and three As.

Yate International Academy

T

HERE were some standout individual successes at Yate International Academy. Among them were Shaun Mitchell, 16, who was recently voted Prom King by his peers for the Year 11 Prom, who walked away with seven A*s and two As. But following last year’s school record haul of GCSE and BTEC results with 55 per cent of students achieving five or more A* to C grades including English and maths, this year’s figure saw a drop to 40 per cent. The academy’s principal Roger Gilbert said: “While this was a rather disappointing performance compared to 2013, it has been difficult to compare year on year results with so many changes to the examination system that have occurred. “Notwithstanding that, I am delighted for the students who did exceptionally well this year.”

MANY students achieved a fantastic set of results at Bridge Learning Campus in Hartcliffe. Among them was Kate Pring, who earned 13 GCSEs or equivalents, with four at A* and another eight at grade A. Mark Davies, chief executive at the school, said that overall results this year were mixed. He said: “There is no doubt that the introduction of new government changes to the accountability framework has had an effect on our results and that of other schools locally and nationally. Our overall result with good passes including both English and maths have improved from last year and they needed to, but at 40 per cent is lower than we expected.

“For example, 74 per cent made expected progress in English with 60 per cent of these achieving a C or better; but our maths was more disappointing and this has impacted upon our overall result. “Similarly the restriction from Government on only allowing two vocational subjects in the top five scores or grades has had an effect and schools will have to adapt to these new changes as we move forward. “The important thing this morning is to say well done to students, parents and staff and wish every success for our young people as they move forward in their lives with successful GCSEs behind them.”

St Bernadette Catholic Secondary School

S

TUDENTS at St Bernadette Catholic Secondary celebrated the best GCSE results in the history of the school. A superb 66 per cent of pupils obtained five A* to C passes including English and maths. Results across a range of subjects were strong and all members of the school community joined in the celebrations. Head teacher Basia McLaughlin said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our students’ successes. All members of our school community have worked hard and we are proud of their achievements. We work hard to ensure every young person experiences success within a caring, supportive environment and it is wonderful to see our students realise their potential and leave St Bernadette’s with strong results and a commitment to being the best they can be.” Last month celebrations at the school started when Claudia Fragapane, who was in Year 11, won four gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. Claudia succeeded in maintaining an intensive gymnastics training programme with her GCSE studies and passed all her exams, exceeding target grades in most areas. Claudia is not the only individual celebrating at St Bernadette’s. A number of pupils did exceptionally well. Top achievers include Leo Fernandez,

Rosie Ford and Safiyyah Abdul-Karim who all gained A* and A grades in all of their subjects. Magdalena Lewoniec, who only arrived in

the country in September of last year, gained an impressive A* in five subjects and A in her remaining three subjects. Many other pupils did ex-

ceptionally well, exceeding targets. Chairwoman of governors Kate Nicholls said: “Our congratulations go to all our pupils who have embraced all

the opportunities provided at St Bernadette, have worked hard and are celebrating their successes. We wish them all the best for the future.”

Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital struggle to compete with girls.” Granville Sykes, the school’s deputy head (academic), said: “Along with stunning results in English language, mathematics scored an enviable 75 per cent A* and As. In each of these two core subjects 100 per cent of our boys scored an A*-C pass rate.” QEH headmaster Stephen Holliday said: “Added to record GCSEs, our exceptional A-level and AS-level results mean that about 10 per cent of boys from the year group have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge, in addition to many others who will be off to medical, veterinary and dentistry schools as well as other top universities.”

BOYS at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital achieved record GCSE results this year, with 90 per cent of all grades at A* to B. Some 72 per cent of grades were at A* or A and 45 per cent of grades were at A*. Thirty boys - over a third of the QEH GCSE cohort – achieved a straight set of A* and A grades. Head of English, Rory Harris, was delighted that a stunning 90 per cent of IGCSE English language grades were at A* or A. He said: “This matches our success in last year’s English literature IGCSEs, so we are again delighted at this result in such a vital subject area where boys might traditionally

St Katherine’s School

S

TUDENTS at St Katherine’s in Pill achieved the school’s best ever set of GCSE results. Seventy four per cent of students achieved five A* to C passes, with 52 per cent achieving five A* to C grades including maths and English. The overall pass rate for students was 98 per cent and head teacher Christopher Sammons said: “This is particularly pleasing following the continuing changes to examinations.” Top performers included Ellie Beard, 16, of Stoke Bishop, who ripped open her envelope to see 12 A* grades. Ellie, who is now going to North Bristol Post 16 Centre to continue her studies and wants to work in medicine, said: “I was surprised at how good the results were, but I am a bit of perfectionist so I knew I would only be happy with all A* grades. It was not easy and took a lot of hard work.” Also celebrating was Archie Sharp, 16, of Pill who got two A*, four As, two Bs and four Cs and a distinction star. He plans to stay on at sixth form and then go to university to study engineering. Archie said: “I was not expecting such good results – it came as a bit of a shock – but I am very pleased.” Mr Sammons added: “These results reflect the very hard work of students, teachers and parents working together and I am really pleased for the majority of students who have achieved some great personal results.”

High-flyers at BCCS this year include Charlotte Higgins, Benjamin Liew and Joe Milton, who all achieved a perfect clean sweep of A* grades and will be going into the sixth form at BCCS. The three 16-year-olds already have two or three A* grades from GCSEs taken early. The results take the total tally of A*s for each of them to 11. Charlotte, of Stoke Bishop, whose older brother Peter left the school last year, gained a further nine 9A*s. “I hope to go to university and after that I am wavering between medicine and veterinary medicine,” she said. Benjamin, of Westbury-on-Trym, celebrating after achieving eight additional A*s, said: “It hasn’t quite sunk in yet! I’m applying for an army officer’s scholarship so that after university I can go into the Army or the Royal Marines.” Having gained another nine A* GCSEs, Joe is now on course to achieve his aim of studying medicine after A-levels.

HERE was strong set of GCSE results as well as some stunning individual performances – including a Year 7 student receiving an A in maths – at Abbeywood Community School. The headline figures were almost at last year’s record level, with 56 per cent of students achieving at least five A*-C grades at GCSE compared with 58 per cent in 2013. The school’s executive head teacher Dave Baker said: “We congratulate our students on another set of wonderful GCSE results but can’t help but feel slightly disappointed that the figures which will be reported in the new look Department for Education performance tables will give the impression that Abbeywood Community School has dipped slightly compared to last year,

with 56 per cent of students achieving at least five A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Maths and 62 per cent achieving five A*-C grades under the new rules. “However, once the local and national picture become clear, we are confident these results will show clear consolidation and demonstrate that Abbeywood is a good school where students do well.” The school’s associate head Judith Mee said: “I am particularly delighted that our students have gained significantly more A* and A grades than ever before and, in addition, one of our Year 7 students achieved an A grade in GCSE maths.” Among the top performing students were Joe Mansfield (9 A*s, 1 A, 1 pass) and James Franks (9A*s, 1 B, 1 merit).

STAGGERING 36 students at The Castle School in Thornbury achieved at least ten A* or A grades. The highest overall achiever was Daisy Balmont who secured A*s in all 12 of her subjects. The 16-year-old is now on her way to Bristol Grammar School after being awarded a physics scholarship to take A-levels in physics, chemistry, further maths and German. She eventually hopes to study her favourite subject physics at university. Other high-fliers included James Ashworth, Nicholas Evans, Dylan Evans and Callum Wanless who all obtained 11 A* grades and Abbie Chinnock, Niall Dickin and Anna Weatherley who all got ten A* grades. Overall, 79 per cent of students achieved the benchmark of five A* to C grades including English and maths, while 82 per cent got five A* to C grades. The school’s head teacher Peter Smart told the Bristol Post: “I am immensely proud of the continued success of all students at The Castle School. “Our inclusive ethos and the range of qualifications offered enables all our students to flourish and achieve their goals. “Their achievements at GCSE are attributed to their positive attitude, dedication to learning and the support of their teachers and parents. “Securing excellent results at GCSE level is a great foundation on which young people can build future success at A-level, at university and in their chosen careers. “I am delighted that so many students will continue to build on these excellent results in our thriving sixth form.”

Sidcot School

R

ESULTS for Sidcot School have exceeded expectations, with close to 90 per cent of students achieving a minimum of five GCSEs graded A* to C and an overall pass rate of 100 per cent. There were also exceptional performances by a number of individuals including Alex Andersson from Bristol (10A*, 3A) and Caroline Green from Warminster (6A* and 7A) both of whom gained an A* distinction in further mathematics – the highest grade possible. Jade Corbett, from Winscombe, achieved 10A*s and 3As. She said she was delighted with her results. Jade said: “I thought ‘Oh wow!’ – I almost fell down the stairs when I ran to tell everyone, I was so happy!”

Jade attributes her success to hard work and the support of her teachers. She said: “We have such small classes at Sidcot, the teachers know each student and their strengths and weaknesses so they can encourage extra revision in the right areas and they gave me the support I needed to get the grades I was capable of achieving.” Sidcot’s headmaster Iain Kilpatrick said he was concerned by the ever-changing exam goal posts. He said: “Students are not statistics; they are young people who have successfully negotiated their first encounter with the public examination system. “At this time of year it is easy to be swept up in the debate about exam pass rates and national averages that misses the point of how important these results are to individual students and their families.”

Broadlands Academy

S

TUDENTS celebrated the best set of examination results in the history of Broadlands Academy, smashing all previous records. Since its conversion from Broadlands School in December 2012, the academy has focussed on improving outcomes for all students. This summer 68 per cent of students achieved five A* to C grades including English and maths, which is a seven percentage point rise from 2013 (61 per cent). The academy is particularly proud of improved maths results which have again risen with 77 per cent of students achieving an A* to C grade. St Bede’s Catholic College

S

TAFF, girls and parents of Badminton School were delighted with another year of great achievements for GCSE candidates. An extraordinary 82 per cent of grades awarded were A* to A grades, with 10 per cent of girls scooping straight A*s. Rebecca Tear, the school’s headmistress, said: “The girls’ results reflect their unwavering hard work and the support of the dedicated staff at Badminton. “What fills me with pride for their individual achievements is knowing how many went the extra mile to overcome challenges from subjects which didn’t come easily. “This was all done alongside their dedication to sport, music and the many other co-curricular activities available to them as part of our holistic education.”

GOVERNORS and staff were justifiably delighted with the stunning achievements of what St Bede’s Catholic College has described its “year of great achievers”. Students at all levels secured results matching their greatest expectations and the school’s ambitions for them. Performance of the most able students was exceptionally strong. Headline figures included 84 per cent of students achieving at least five A* to C grades and 75 per cent earning five A* to Cs with English and mathematics. Every child at college achieved at least five GCSE grades. There were some outstanding results achieved by students, 50 of whom each secured at least 5 A*/A grades. Star performers included Michael Savery and Louise Mason, with both obtaining A* grades in all eleven of their subjects. More than 20 students achieved at least 10A*/A grades and these included Carys Greenaway, Benjamin Whitfield, Megan O’Brien and Luned Stevens. Catherine Hughes, pictured, the school’s principal, said: “Our results are evidence of the high expectations, determination, resilience and hard work of both students and staff, for which they must be commended. We will now celebrate the successes of our young people and start again in September, determined to ensure that every child who attends St Bede’s will achieve grades that match both aptitude and industry.”

Redland High School

R

EDLAND High School celebrated another year of excellent GCSE results across a wide range of subjects. The recent successful science A-level results were repeated at GCSE level, with over 80 per cent of all pupils studying biology, chemistry or physics achieving the top A* / A grade. Every GCSE student at Redland High has been awarded at least one science subject at grade A* to C. The success was not confined to the sciences. Of those studying Languages 70 per cent of students received A* / A grades, with this figure rising to an impressive 90 per cent in Spanish and German. Approximately three quarters of students studying English literature and English language were awarded an A* / A grade. Redland High enters pupils for the International GCSE (iGCSE) in English language and Literature, seen as a more robust course which rigorously prepares students for A-level study. Francesca Millar, Lucy Mercer and Olivia Gaitonde all excelled with 11A* grades, All three are looking forward to starting in the sixth form at Redland High in September. Caroline Bateson, headmistress at the school, said: “We are delighted that the predicted national dip in results has not affected pupils at Redland High and that once again we are celebrating some fantastic results across the curriculum, with A* and A grades accounting for over 60 per cent of all grades at the school. “We look forward to welcoming the girls into the sixth form in September where they will be able to build on this success.”
