STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTRE EAT_PLAY_THINK_LEISURE

The design brief asked for a Student Activity Center for an Architectural and Fine Arts college for about 1100 students, inculcating many facilities for the students. Student activity centre is a space which houses activities to enrich student’s life beyond academics. They play an integral role in the collegiate experience, living in a large community with people in the same age group lends itself to many social activities. The centre is available to all students who need a break to relax from their busy college life.

The idea is to provide as many leisure, play ,fun filled spaces / plazas for students across disciplines to meet and interact , where exchange of ideas happen. For the building the Co-ordinate Axes are taken as the guides and are considered the main circulation paths. The program spaces EAT_PLAY_LEISURE_THINK are then placed accordingly along the axes, and the grouping is done considering the type and hierarchy of the specific activity. The site has two roads on its either ends. One on to the east is considered the main entry axis as it lies in line with the college entry. As there are 3 different college blocks, identifying the different points of entries to the site from the academic buildings was also crucial. The play courts and plazas provided act as a good leisure points for the students.

_SITE PLAN

The prime idea is to break the monotony of building typology around the site. Surrounded with the IT Corporates, Office Buildings with the glass & Alco facades. Something new and refreshing in ambiance, scale and form was needed. The canteen and play lounges provided in the mezzanine level constitute for the EAT & PLAY. Being a design college lots of students works are needed to be exhibited and an expo area is provided which can accommodate art exhibitions. which can accommodate art exhibitions. Few multi-purpose activity rooms provided for yoga, dance and music lovers etc. The entry ways, points are all accentuated by landscape plazas, portal frames etc. To enhance the experience of the user when arriving to the built-up space.

_PROGRAM @ BUILDING LEVEL OPD

The term ‘Healing Architecture’ is adopted to invoke a sense of a continuous process, creating an environment physically healthy and psychologically appropriate for patient’s well-being. A majority of the literature on the healing environment has reached a consensus that the physical aspects of built environment could contribute indirectly to the health outcomes of patients and staff in a hospital.

The circulation demarcation on site level was crucial, as there are different type of users both public and private. Depending on the hierarchy of the program ,special lane for emergency and labour wards has been provided. The general public for the OPD and college students entries have been put down the road at a safe distance from the emergency lane entry.

Aim is to design the Media park as an attraction for the professionals in multimedia production across the state(country), to show their works and participate in the media production community. To design a facility which creates a neighbourhood public space, with all important private zones designed in such a way to ease the process of production between all the occupant companies and training centers. Designing a creative business and social environmental spot in the city, and to provide professional training facilities for multimedia production since there is no current professional schools yet in the new state rolling apart in the field.

COMPETITIONS AND EXTRA CIRRICULAR WORKS

“ Liberty is an idea to be conquered and not a right to be conserved or defended ” - Ugo Spirito

LIBERTY WALLS

THE MUSEUM OF SOCIAL AND CIVIL RIGHTS Competition 2016_ARCHASM In collaboration with Ar.Sai kiran @ Sridhar Reddy Associates.

Location : Liberty Island, NYC. Site Area : 7,285 sqmt Site Surroundings : Public park island. The aim of the competition is to reflect on the issues of civil rights and social justice in a museum specific to this cause, and transform these causes into a click-bait architectural statement that will gather the attention of people and draw maximum visitors to the monument. In the present scenario, the basic human rights around the world such as the freedom of speech, choice and expression are contradicted (influenced) by entities such as Religion, Culture and fear of social acceptance. Like to remember the saying of Martin Luther King that.. “There is no noise as powerful as the sound of the marching feet of a determined people”

Along with expressing the importance of liberty museum, our idea is to create enlightening (awareness) activities to all while going on a walk(tour) along the built form in a uni directional programmed path that takes the user in a journey through the galleries of the museum and educate them of the importance of these things. The design proposal has these two monumental linear walls with galleries inside them stacked vertically. These huge walls represents those all contradicting entities of freedom, liberty, and human rights. The user faces a ramp enclosed by these walls at the beginning which then leads to an elevated openness that gives a sense of freedom and liberation. The journey along path is a metaphorical assertion that everyone needs to be independent and liberal even while staying involved with religion, culture and society.
