BEULAH HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY CAMPUS NEWS AND EVENTS
BEULAHTINOS “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven…” is a passage of scripture that many of us quote regularly. BHU not only quotes this verse, but we live it as our campus remains a reflection of how heaven will be – DIVERSE. Whether using the term international or melting pot, over eight hundred students from many nations and tongues grace the campus of BHU, with thirty-seven countries represented in our student body.
Beulah Heights University offers courses in English, Korean, Portuguese, and now Spanish. We can proudly say that those desirous of an Associate or Bachelor degree can do so, right here at BHU. As of recent, our Latino population has doubled, and with that comes a demand to add new programs. In 2006, Professor Wes Wilson & Dr. Gil Paiz with the approval from the President Dr. Karanja BHU opened the door of a new program, called Beulahtinos. This is a “plaza comunitaria” to provide primary, middle, and GED level education with the help of the Ministry of Education of Mexico and Georgia State. Through this collaboration, the “plaza comunitaria” was launched. The president, Dr. Karanja, had a vision to reach diverse cultures and give the opportunity to pursue a Christian education.
In keeping up with the demands of heaven and our communities, 2009 begins yet another endeavor to effectively live out our great commission (Act1:8). May of 2009, BHU celebrated the success of its first Latino program, graduating 18 students with GED’s. With 94% of those students returning, we have now pioneered undergraduate studies to the Latino community. Dr. Paiz worked in Belize as a successful family practitioner deputy regional manager western of Belize. He was called by God to work in the Christian community. In 2005, he was lead to Beulah Heights University as Instructor for Spanish & Sciences. Forgetting not his own obstacles to doing the will of the Lord, Dr. Gil Paiz, who has a burning desire to see Latinos provided educational, professional, and spiritual experiences, partnered with our university and now heads up the Latino program. With a vision to see communities empowered through Christ centered education, BHU is now the only faith-based university offering degrees to Latino communities in our area. With par excellent educational opportunities students in turn, pour back into their communities and native countries with solid leadership and sound education. This domino effect results in churches, jobs, self and communal confidence, means to share the gospel, unlimited resources, business partnerships and heralding to other communities that God sees, he knows and he cares.

The current economic downturn has left many people affected from Wall Street to Main Street. Various industries ranging from manufacturing to retail sales to education have had to wrestle with this giant called the “economic recession.” Many schools (BHU included) have had their share of this bitter pill. Nevertheless, God continues to provide BHU a way of escape step by step. This fact is self -evident because BHU has not been completely swallowed up. Global leaders are still being developed. Christ is still our light at the end of the tunnel. Dr. Benson Karanja’s audacity to succeed at all costs continues to propel BHU on its road to becoming a global institution to reckon with. The number 808 is very significant to BHU. It represents the highest number of students to enroll in one semester in the history of BHU. The swelling student body indicates the faithfulness of God to BHU. While
some institutions have shrunk and since closed, the population on 892 Berne Street keeps rising to recordbreaking numbers. Without God’s grace, none of this would be a reality. What is improbable in the eyes of man is never improbable to God! Record-breaking enrollment is not the only good news at Beulah Heights University this Fall. There are many other exciting things to smile about. BHU’s academic wings continue to stretch both at home and abroad. A new extension site has been set up in Albany, Georgia. More interest was stimulated after BHU received front page recognition in a local Albany newspaper. BHU now has three extensions in the state of Georgia. As well, students can now study and earn an Associates of Arts degree totally online. Abroad in Brazil, effectual doors are in sight. As of this date, two sites have already been established. BHU is

Considering the tempestuous economic winds of the past year or so, the BHU family cannot appreciate God enough for His favor today. There is also great power in fearless and dedicated unity. The ever industrious faculty and staff ensure that BHU soars higher to a greater destiny. The fearless at BHU say “why not” when others say “why”. The BHU A-team realizes that it is the “why not” mentality that believes the unthinkable and conquers the unconquerable. The courage to ask “why not” is the limitless power to obtain what others may have not. As Dr. Benson Karanja always says, this is our day and this is our season!
Professor Chris Bowen, how to navigate problem areas in courtship and marriage, and the challenges of the contemporary American family. Most of these students are young people in the Master’s School of Ministry program at the First Assembly of God Church. Nearly 34 students are enrolled in this program which requires 33 hours to graduate with a degree in Biblical Education. Some will complete their course of study in time to graduate in May 2010. Their coursework, coupled with intense internship training, will prepare them for ministry roles such as youth pastor, worship leader and
