Billingham I nternational F olklore F e stiv al 45 Glarious Yeurs and Counting...... Dance, the oldest form of personal expression, a colourful mixture of music, rhythm and cuhure in a universal language, that undoubtly overcotnes political dffirences and boandaries like nothing else known to man, this is the Billingham Intenrutional Folklore Festival.

Where people af the World Unite

Mfn:*ihi"ffiil' Billingham International Folklore Festival.

From its humble beginnings in the John Whitehead Park it has developed into the prestigious event our 45th anniversary in 2009. Welcome to all who contribute to its success - the wonderful performers who bring us a taste of their culture from all over the world; the dedicated and hard working team of volunteers

under the direction of Joe and Olga Maloney; and, of course, you the audience. We seem to have had more than our usual share of setbacks this year, however, in true festival spirit these have been overcome and I am sure you will enjoy the 45th Festival and with your continuing support the Festival will go on and on for many more years. Welcome and please keep coming.

Maureen Taylor vrBr Festival Chair

he Billingham Intemational Folklore Festival has had a special place in my heart for more than 30 years since I was a young reporter on the Evening Gazette and press

offrcer for the event.

I remember some of the earlier days for the friendship, the colour and the fun as well as the dance and music from as far away as China, Brazil and the western United States.

But the abiding memory will always be of people from across the world coming to Billingham, often putting conflicts

in their own part of the world aside, to live, make music, sing

Councillor Alex Cunnigham Stockton Borough Council

and dance together because that is what they loved to do.

They still do and BIFF remains a key event for Britain to play its role in developing international relations. Some ten years ago

I had the pleasure of opening the

Festival and I am privileged to be asked to do so again. Thank you to the hard working voluntary team who I am sure

will deliver another Festival we can allbe proud of.
