CUSTOM EVENTS
“Art Is Play... I WANT TO CREATE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL WITH THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE, SOMETHING UNIQUE AND UNREPLICABLE. THE ACT OF MAKING SOMETHING NEW, LEAVING YOUR MARK, BECOMES A CONDUIT TO RELAX, REFLECT AND REFRESH. ART BECOMES FEARLESS EXPLORATION AND VIBRANT MEDITATION.”
Everyone is an Artist CRAVE WORKSHOPS ARE A CELEBRATION OF CREATIVITY WHERE EVERYONE IS INSPIRED TO MAKE. OUR GOAL IS TO SUPPORT LOCAL CREATIVES AND BUILD A DIVERSE, INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY THROUGH INTIMATE EVENTS. We bring the “creatively curious” together to meet, eat and make something new. Each workshop experience will be crafted to help participants tap into their creative place while rediscovering the fine art of play. We want our participants to leave at the end of the day, inspired by a new skill, connected with a new friend and fulfilled to bring something beautiful home with them.

About Agnes Agnes is a designer, artist and photographer living in Playa Vista. A lover of vibrant color and exuberant patterns, she seeks out bright places and bold people. Inspired by art, nature and, most of all beauty, Agnes is passionate about travel, meeting good people, and making beautiful things. Having the opportunity to travel and attend art workshops in far flung places like India and Japan, Agnes was inspired to build a community of shared interests in her “backyard.” Crave Workshops aims to share her love of handmade crafts and global textiles while bringing friends together. “For me, creating is essential, like eating and sleeping. Ever since I was old enough to hold a crayon, I was making things. I studied art every chance I got. When I got into Rhode Island School of Design, it was heaven on earth to learn a new photo process one day and take a bookbinding class the next. I loved taking classes to learn new skills, but more importantly, to be surrounded by other creatives. I painted watercolors with my artistic grandmother as a seven-year-old, took life-drawing workshops in high school, sketched piazzas on my college semester abroad in Italy, practiced block-printing on a life-changing trip to Bagru, India. As I grew older, I traveled the world in pursuit of learning new arts. I have made life-long friendships as regardless of cultural differences, creating together forges unique bonds. I want to share my love of art, travel and friendship one afternoon at a time.”
Shibori Workshop
Ready for a fun and experimental day? This workshop will introduce students to shibori and indigo blue. Shibori is a Japanese technique of binding, stitching, and clamping fabric to create patterns when indigo dye is applied. The transformation of cloth dipped in indigo suggests a potency recognized by craftspeople all over the world. When these two techniques are combined, the results are some of the most immediate and creative textiles imaginable.
WHAT THEY SAID SHIBORI AIRBNB EXPERIENCE “... She guided us through every step and allowed us to experiment with the array of items she had. There was clamps, sticks, rubber bands, rope, and blocks! The possibilities are endless and she encourages the creativity! She was a great teacher and passionate about her work. Hearing about her travels in the name of Shibori made one ooo and awe. I have been recommending Agnes’ class! I can’t wait for the next!”
Indigo Stencils
Love patterns? We will teach about the art of stencils and pattern mixing. In this workshop, you will learn Katazame, a historic stenciling technique allowing you to create works with bold, geometric designs. We will mix Japnanese all natural bran paste, paint on the stencils and then use indigo dye to create custom printed textiles. You will leave with two patterned textiles and an appreciation for the global indigo craft.
“I love that you guys made art approachable! I’m not crafty or creative, but I left feeling that I am. I am excited to be walking away with three beautiful pieces of art to display in my home.”
Natural Dyes
Love color & pattern? We will dye textiles in a rainbow of natural pigments. We will create hand-dyed napkins using the ancient Japanese Shibori technique of folding and binding fabrics. We will dye with non-toxic reactive dyes for excellent color fastness and durability.
Marbling Workshop
Love Experimenting with Color? Every piece is a unique work of art This workshop is an introduction to paper marbling, a method of printmaking in which paint is floated and manipulated on the surface of thickened water to create a mesmerizing design that’s then transferred to paper as a permanent print. After spending time exploring colors and patterns, participants will try the technique on their own set of paper coasters.
Marbling PopUp
2 Days & 1000 Coasters: Growing Community in the DIY Den Crave Workshops hosted a community marbling workshop at the 10th Annual Unique Holiday Market. Connecting locals to local makers, Unique was the perfect partner to hold our pop-up. We had two tables in the DIY lounge and invited dozens of visitors to make two pretty coasters. Kids of all ages (a few as young as 2!) marveled at the magic of marbled paint. We were excited to expand our intimate workshop offering to a larger crowd of all ages. It was a great event for families, kids and friends.
WHAT THEY SAID (UNIQUE MARKETS): THEY WERE SO STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL… EVERY SINGLE ONE WAS UNIQUE! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US & BEING PART OF THE FAMILY, CAN’T WAIT TO CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER!
Silkscreen PopUp (LATE SPRING 2018)
Love Mixing & Matching? This workshop offers a quick method of silkscreen printing. Participants create their own screen-printed art using images and materials supplied to create prints. The screen will be prepared with bold patterns, but students can also cut their own stencils. We will explore color, pattern and creating expressionist monoprints.
