Fears Paris could inspire attacks in Aust A
uthorities are on high alert amid concerns Islamic State's deadly assault on Paris could inspire similar attacks in Australia. And the federal government has confirmed plans to resettle 12,000 refugees from Syria may be delayed due to rigorous security checks. As France retaliated with air strikes on IS's self-declared capital of Raqqa in Syria, Attorney-General George Brandis warned of the potential for the Paris attacks to encourage "other like-minded people" living in the Australian community. About 400 individuals in Australia remain under the watch of security agencies. "The national security agencies and the police are very alert to ensure there isn't any copycat behaviour in Australia," Senator Brandis said on Monday. Talks at the G20 summit of world leaders in Turkey, attended by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, are focused on striking a united front against IS and ending the bloodshed in Syria. Mr Turnbull, who met US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the summit, has called for military action to defeat IS while indicating he would consider Australia making a contribution to a peacekeeping mission in Syria. But Defence Minister Marise Payne warned there was a "very, very complex" political process to play out before any decision was made. Australia is already the second largest contributor to a US-led coalition airforce mission seeking to drive IS out of Iraq and Syria. The Black Friday terror attacks in Paris killed about 130 people dead and left hundreds more injured. The horrific events have prompted calls in Australia for a rethink of plans to resettle 12,000 people fleeing the conflict in Syria after French authorities said a passport found near the body of one attacker carried the name of a Syrian refugee. "We are not going to rush this process," Immigration Minister Peter Dutton told Seven Network on Monday. "If it means that the timeline is blown out ... that will be a consequence of it."
The biometric data of refugees will be checked with intelligence agencies in other countries. But Mr Dutton rejected calls for Australia to close its borders after NSW Nationals MP Andrew Fraser posted on Facebook: "Message to Malcolm Turnbull: Australia does not need Middle Eastern refugees or Islamic boat people!" The Grand Mufti of Australia condemned the Paris attacks while warning strategies to deal with the threat of terrorism weren't working. "We call upon all people of goodwill to stand against fear-mongering and injustice," Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohammed said in a statement. The harrowing accounts of survivors are still emerging. Australian man John Leader, 46, and his 12-year-old son, Oscar told how they were forced to lie on top of bloodied bodies to escape the bullets of shooters in Paris' Bataclan theatre,
where most of the attack victims died. "They were very calm, very methodical, very slow. I watched the guy reloading," Mr Leader said. Hobart woman Emma Parkinson, 19, was also at the theatre - which was hosting a sold-out Eagles of Death Metal concert - and is continuing her recovering from surgery after being shot in the hip. "She's in good spirits and she'll make a good recovery," Australia's ambassador to France Stephen Brady said.

Same-sex adoption legalised in Victoria
S
ame-sex couples in Victoria have won the right to adopt children but faithbased adoption agencies have retained the right to refuse same-sex adoptions. The government's same-sex adoption bill passed the upper house 31 to 8 recently with amendments allowing religious exemption. The bill will now return to the lower house. Greens Southern Metropolitan region MP Sue Pennicuik welcomed the passage of the law. "It's a great day. It's taken years of campaigning to achieve equality for same sex couples and their children," she said in a statement. But Australian Christian Lobby Victorian Director Dan Flynn decried the passage of legislation "trampling the rights of children to a mother and father figure". He criticised the banning of anti-abortion protests or vigils from within 150 metres of abortion clinics as heavy handed but welcomed the retention of faith-based adoption agencies' to reject same-sex adoptions. "CatholicCare adoption has survived a significant government attack and will be able to continue to prefer to adopt children to a mother and father rather than a same sex couple," Mr Flynn said in a statement.

Baby with two heads born in Bangladesh D
octors at a Bangladesh hospital are treating a baby girl born with two heads, medical officials and the newborn's father say.
The baby was born recently and is now being treated for breathing difficulties after being shifted to the intensive care unit of the country's largest hospital in Dhaka. "When I saw my baby, I was awestruck. She has two fully developed heads. She is eating with two mouths and breathing with two noses," her father, Jamal Mia, said on Thursday. "Still, I thank Allah that she and the mother are now okay," Mia told AFP.
"The entire town poured into the clinic" Train break-in prompts security boost
S
ecurity at a Melbourne train depot has been stepped up after vandals were able to start a train before it derailed and caused $3 million in damage. A set of stolen or lost keys were likely used to start the train at the Hurstbridge holding yard on Melbourne's outskirts recently. But the train didn't get far before security equipment derailed it and any plans for a joyride. Metro chief Andrew Lezala says the trains can't start without a combination of keys, leading him to believe the vandals had access to a set possibly lost or stolen.
"I suspect, somehow, they gained access to a key," Mr Lezala told reporters in Hurstbridge on Wednesday.
Abu Kawsar, owner of the Standard Hospital of Total Healthcare where the baby was born by Caesarean section, said initial tests showed she only has one set of vital organs. "Except for having two heads, the newborn has the rest of her
organs and limbs like a normal newborn," Kawsar told AFP. Thousands of people thronged the hospital in Brahmanbaria, where she was born, some 120km east of Dhaka, after news spread of the "miracle newborn". "The entire town poured into the clinic. There were thousands of people with some of them coming from the nearby villages," he said. "It's good that the baby has been shifted to Dhaka. Otherwise, it would have been difficult for us to control the crowd." Her father, Mia, a poor farm labourer, said he was concerned about how he would manage to care for the baby if extra expenses were needed. "I feel sad for her. She has been born to a poor man. I don't have money to even properly treat her mother," he said. A baby was also born in Bangladesh with two heads in 2008 but later died.
PURCHASE DIRECT & SAVE THE MIDDLE MAN
"Presumably they accessed that through the black market." He said a derailing device, used to stop rogue trains entering the main line, was activated after the train travelled 80 metres. Security staff and cleaners saw the train roll, striking a second train and damaging fences. The Rail, Tram and Bus Union says the incident could have been avoided if more surveillance staff were employed. "Fifteen staff to fight vandalism across the entire network is clearly not enough," RTBU secretary Luba Grigorovich said. Metro says it's already in discussions with Public Transport Victoria to start using electronic smart keys with a shelf life, meaning they could be cancelled if lost or stolen. Police and transit detectives have canvassed the area for CCTV footage.

Family in court over alleged Vic teen rape

our men from one family are accused of witnesses, or abducting and gang raping a 14-year-old reoffending, if girl in regional Victoria. released on bail. The men had been at a family reunion and out drinking before they allegedly came across the teenage girl and her 16-yearold male friend in a Geelong park early on November 1, a court has heard. Police say she was taken away and raped by two of the men at one address before being attacked by multiple offenders in a garage at another property. The girl was then dropped back to the park, Detective Senior Constable Liana Goonan told the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday. She went to a nearby house and asked for help. Two Melbourne brothers - Kevin Andrew Wild, 28, and Allan Mark Wild, 29, have been remanded in custody over the alleged incident and are due to reappear in court on Friday. Another relative, Brodie Mark Wild, 20, is also in custody after he was extradited from Queensland.
She alleged Rowan and Allan Wild were standing about four metres away as the other two raped the girl at the first address. The girl's friend, who had been at a gathering with her before they went to the park, begged the men to stop, saying "she's only 15, leave her alone". Rowan Wild allegedly went up to those raping the girl and said: "She's 18, it's all good".
Brodie Wild, the youngest of four family members charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl in regional Victoria has been released on bail.
The girl's friend was allegedly punched by Kevin as he tried to intervene and then ran to get help, so he was not there when the girl was taken to the garage, the court heard.

He also told the court there was no evidence that Rowan Wild touched or raped the girl. The girl, who police say was intoxicated at the time, could only say there were multiple offenders in the garage. The girl's family, in a statement outside court, said it was the worst day of their lives but thanked police. "Our family has suffered a deeply personal and horrific tragedy which by its nature has been very public and overwhelming," they said.

It will allow them to see galaxies whose light has been travelling toward earth since shortly after the Big Bang - 13.8 billion years, said the 11-member consortium. Finding earth-like planets orbiting nearby stars is a major aim, it said.

Nets to be put down after NSW shark attack E
co-barriers will be installed within months at Lighthouse Beach following the ninth shark attack on the notorious stretch of the NSW north coast this year.
Local surfer Sam Morgan, 20, is in a stable condition at Gold Coast University Hospital after suffering serious wounds to his left thigh when he was mauled by a bull shark at the beach in Ballina. NSW Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair has promised to install a mesh swimming enclosure at the beach this summer with the "eco-barrier" stretching from seabed to surface and from shoreline to shoreline. 'Worst' insider trader appeal denied
T
he man behind Australia's worst-ever insider trading scheme will have to serve his jail sentence in full after his bid to reduce it was rejected. The court of appeal found Lukas James Kamay was a rational, profit-seeking individual who was well aware of the risk that he may be caught, yet was driven by greed. The former banker from Clifton Hill made $7 million using market-sensitive data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics to conduct stock exchange trades. He then tried to cover his crime by spending some of the profit on a $2.375 million property renovated on the TV show The Block. Lawyers for Kamay had argued Justice Elizabeth Hollingworth did not take into account his youth, clean record and willingness to co-operate, when jailing him for seven years and three months. But the court of appeal found such factors were unexceptional in white collar crimes. The court said the speed and efficiency with which the former NAB employee was able to dishonestly generate predictable profits by using sensitive information called for a sentence that would deter others. Defence barrister Chris Boyce SC had also argued Kamay's jail term was too long because undue emphasis was placed on the level of profit he made, without taking into account the size of the market. "Look at it in respect of a market that is virtually an ocean of liquidity, in which $7 million is less than a drop," Mr Boyce said.

Diamond sells for world record $68.5m T
he rare and flawless "Blue Moon Diamond" has sold for 48.6 million Swiss francs ($A68.58 million) to a Hong Kong buyer, setting a world record for a gemstone at auction, Sotheby's says.
The cushion-shaped diamond, mounted on a ring, has the top grading of fancy vivid blue and weighs 12.03 carats. It had a presale estimate of $US35 million ($A49.60 million) to $US55 million. "It is a new record price for any gemstone and per carat," David Bennett, worldwide chairman of Sotheby's international jewellery division, said on Wednesday. The Hong Kong buyer promptly renamed it The Blue Moon of Josephine, Bennett told reporters, noting that it had also set a world record for any jewel at more than
$US4 million per carat.
At rival Christie's on Tuesday, a large diamond of a rare pink hue fetched 28.725 million Swiss francs. Christie's said the stone, named The Sweet Josephine by the Hong Kong-based Chinese client who bought it, set a world record for any pink diamond ever offered at auction. The same buyer is believed to have bought both star lots at the semi-annual sales in the Swiss city. The blue diamond stone was found in South Africa's famed Cullinan mine in January 2014. The seller was New York-based jeweller Cora International, according to Sotheby's.

Man pleads not guilty over cocaine bust A man implicated in a 400 kilogram cocaine bust in Queensland was thwarted about 10 minutes after picking up a slice of the huge haul, a court has heard.
...Had travelled from Panama laden with 400 kilograms of drugs
The trial of Geoffrey Stuart Triplett started in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty to possessing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug. But crown prosecutor Glen Rice said Triplett was stopped behind the wheel of a rental Corolla with 45 one-kilogram blocks of cocaine shortly after a Kippa-Ring shopping centre rendezvous in October 2010. The drugs came from a yacht docked at Scarborough that had previously engaged in a high seas exchange with a catamaran about 415 kilometres off the Queensland coast, Mr Rice said. The court heard the catamaran, called the Edelweiss, had travelled from Panama laden with 400 kilograms of drugs to meet the Australia-bound yacht. The crown alleged Triplett had driven overnight from Hawks Nest in NSW so he and a companion could meet two other men, Terrance Elfar and Simon Golding, at the shopping centre. Elfar and Golding brought the illicit substance to the centre in two green duffle bags which were loaded into the Corolla soon after the men met up. But about 10 minutes later, the car was pulled over by Australian Federal Police officers on Anzac Avenue at Redcliffe. Jurors viewed a police video of the initial search of the car's boot after it was intercepted in which a federal agent can be seen slicing open a green duffle bag and pulling out taped-up blocks.
Both Triplett and Golding, who were well-known to each other, used pre-paid mobile phones listed in other names to communicate, Mr Rice said. He expected the defence would argue
Triplett - who sat calmly in the dock occasionally taking notes - didn't know the bags in the car were stuffed with drugs. The trial is expected to last eight days before Justice Debra Mullins.

The firm also plans to bring Billie Holiday, who died in 1959, back to Harlem's Apollo Theater in what would be the first regularly scheduled hologram show. Holograms record light fields, rather than standard camera images, thereby allowing a threedimensional presentation.
For Whitney Houston's tour, which four venues have so far agreed to welcome, the late singer's image will be projected onto a live artist on stage. "Whitney will be able to interact live in a real

Man charged over Twitter scam A
US federal grand jury has indicted a Scottish man for securities fraud after prosecutors say he manipulated stock prices using Twitter. James Alan Craig, 62, of Dunragit, Scotland, set up Twitter accounts in 2013 that appeared to be associated with real market research firms before sending out false Tweets that sent companies' stock prices plunging, prosecutors said. He is accused of then buying the
Reid Genauer, a member of the band Strangefolk and chief marketing officer of the movie app company Magisto, said he struggled to see how holograms would work once the technology becomes commonplace. "Meeting dead celebrities, it seems reasonable to me. Is there business there? Probably. The difficulty I have - and it's a lack of imagination, not a lack of possibility - is envisioning how holograms scale," he said.
The hologram boom began in April 2012 when Coachella, one of the most influential music festivals, resurrected slain rapper Tupac Shakur in a headlining set by his former collaborators Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg.
For Tupac and Michael Jackson, the holograms, however realistic looking, still used a 150-yearold technology - the image was projected onto a transparent screen.
But will the public keep shelling out money to see dead entertainers once the novelty fades?
John Textor, the chairman of Pulse Evolution which spearheaded the Tupac and Michael Jackson holograms, said it was critical to design real shows, not just to rely on holograms. He expected the Elvis musical to run 90 minutes and feature live dancers and actors, in the fashion of a Broadway show. "I don't believe in digital performance concerts. By the time you get to the third song, you're done. The novelty is gone," Textor said in an interview.

The former PR who'd worked on seating plans for New York and Paris Fashion Week shows decided she wanted to get in front of the change she saw happening from the back rows. "Over around three years the whole first and second rows changed. I saw that online was moving forwards and print was moving backwards," she said. That desire to capitalise on digital change - which had upended a whole hierarchy as fashion bloggers were seated in front of magazine mavens - drove 23-yearold Wilson, who describes herself as an opportunist, to start her own app, Stashd. Since launching in November 2013, the fashion discovery and shopping tool has reached users in 94 countries, and landed partnerships with ASOS, Net-a-porter, Ssense.com and Farfetch. Australian Health records could be hacked he private medical details of all Australians could potentially be stolen in an Ashley Madison-style hacking scandal if the federal government pushes ahead with plans to put everyone’s records online, an expert has warned. Health Minister Sussan Ley announced a reboot of the current e-health system in May, switching it from an opt-in to an opt-out model in order to get more people using it. The model would contain the health records of every Australian, unless they chose to opt out of it. Trials of the new system are set to begin in early 2016 in north Queensland and the NSW Blue Mountains region, involving one million Australians. First regulated Uber launches in Canberra H
e was the first to do it legally in Canberra, but ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr is no Uber virgin.
"I must confess," he said after, unusually, having the door to a silver Toyota opened for him. "I have used it in Sydney and Melbourne, and in San Francisco and Washington on a recent trip." Mr Barr officially launched the controversial ride-sharing service in the nation's capital on Friday after its assembly approved legislation to regulate the sector. It's the first jurisdiction in Australia to do so, allowing the likes of Uber, OnTap and GoCatch to operate under strict conditions and government oversight. Drivers have to pass criminal and driving history checks, ensure proper insurance coverage and have their vehicles tested for roadworthiness. "It's a real step forward for on-demand transport in the region," Mr Barr said. Uber is a growing service and operates in almost 60 countries.

The ACT Government has tried to appease them by immediately dropping the annual fee to lease a government-owned taxi licence from $20,000 to $10,000 and from $4600 to $100 for hire cars. The $350 annual operator accreditation fee has also been scrapped. Uber's general manager for Australian-New Zealand, David Rohrsheim said trips would typically be 20-30 per cent cheaper than taxis - depending on demand.
"But a lot of people choose it because it's a better experience - press a button, get a ride; that's something that's unfamiliar for a lot of people in Canberra right now," he said. More than 100 drivers were ready to go from day one, including Peter Mackay. The 57-year-old retired public servant worked as a cab driver for five years and decided to join Uber because he liked helping people. "This is something I can do part-time, whenever I feel like it or whenever there's a need for it," Mr Mackay, wearing a black drivers' cap and tie, told AAP.

Designer cells reverse baby girl's cancer A
one-year-old girl in Britain has become the first in the world to be treated with "designer" immune cells genetically engineered to reverse her cancer. Layla Richards was suffering from leukaemia but was cured after scientists at Great Ormond Street Hospital used a new gene-editing technique to manipulate cells to fight the disease. "As this was the first time that the treatment had been used, we didn't know if or when it would work and so we were over the moon when it did," said Professor Paul Veys, director of bone marrow transplant at GOSH and Layla's head doctor. "Her leukaemia was so aggressive that such a response is almost a miracle." The baby was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, the most common form of childhood leukaemia, when she was just 14 weeks old. She was treated with chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant but the cancer returned and doctors told her parents to consider palliative end-of-life care. The family was then offered an experimental treatment under development at the hospital, in which doctors modified white blood cells, T cells, from a healthy donor so that they seek out and kill drug-resistant leukaemia.
"She was sick and in lots of pain so we had to do something," her father Ashleigh Richards, 30, said. "Doctors explained that even if we could try the treatment, there was no guarantee that it would work but we prayed it would." Layla was given a small infusion of the genetically-engineered cells known as UCART19 cells. A few weeks later, consultants told her parents that the treatment had worked. Doctors stressed that the experimental technique had just been used once and that the results need to be replicated but said it was potentially very promising. "We have only used this treatment on one very strong little girl and we have to be cautious about claiming that this will be a suitable treatment option for all children," said Waseem Qasim, professor of cell and gene therapy at the Institute of Child Health and consultant immunologist at GOSH. "But this is a landmark in the use of new gene engineering technology and the effects for this child have been staggering," he added. "If replicated, it could represent a huge step forward in treating leukaemia and other cancers."

Google aiming for drone deliveries by 2017 But drone deliveries are not expected to take flight until after the FAA publishes final rules for commercial drone operations, which are expected early next year.
Two years after initial research began, Project Wing was announced in August 2014 with a YouTube video showing a field test of its most viable prototype in Australia. The prototype flown in Australia, 1.5 meters wide and 0.8 meters tall, shares the same four-propeller quad copter design as popular consumer drones, but the company said consumers can expect to see new vehicle types and shapes as the project unfolds.

Scientists try to grow ‘super coral’
Researchers are warning about the dire health of the world’s reefs
S
cientists at a research centre on Hawaii’s Coconut Island have embarked on an experiment to grow “super coral” that they hope can withstand the hotter and more acidic oceans that are expected with global warming. The quest to grow the hearty coral comes at a time when researchers are warning about the dire health of the world’s reefs, which create habitats for marine life, protect shorelines and drive tourist economies. When coral is stressed by changing environmental conditions, it expels the symbiotic algae that live within it and the animal turns white or bright yellow, a process called bleaching, Ruth Gates, director of the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, said.
Vos, who is co-chair of an FAA task force charged with coming up with a drone registry, said a system for identifying drone operators and keeping UAV away from other aircraft could be set up within 12 months.

Help! was Lennon's Your Horoscopes 'cry for help' P
aul McCartney says The Beatles hit song Help! was literally "a cry for help" from guitarist John Lennon.
The 73-year-old rocker, one one of only two surviving members of The Beatles, said Lennon was miserable when the song was penned in 1965 because the band had been recording and touring for two years and Lennon was unhappily married to high school sweetheart Cynthia. "Looking back on it, John was always looking for help. He had [a paranoia] that people died when he was around: His father left home when John was three, the uncle he lived with died later, then his mother died. I think John's whole life was a cry for help," McCartney told Billboard. Lennon was fatally shot in New York City in 1980. McCartney admitted that the best thing about their 1964 hit Eight Days A Week was the title, which the Beatles didn't even come up with themselves. He said it came about from small talk with his car driver. "You been busy?" McCartney asked his driver. "Busy? I've been working eight days a week," he replied. We Can Work It Out is about a fight McCartney had with his actress girlfriend Jane Asher. He said he doesn't remember the circumstances, but he was asking her to see something his way. "It may be arrogant, but it's what every man wants to say to every girl," said McCartney. He also shed further light on the origin of Hey Jude, which was written for Lennon's son Julian after Lennon and Cynthia got divorced. But Lennon always suggested the song was about his relationship with Yoko Ono, especially the line "You have found her, now go and get her." McCartney admitted "the only thing about Julian in the song is the first lines," but didn't elaborate on who else the song addressed.
Ed Sheeran wrote hit with struggling mate E
nglish singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed his hit Thinking Out Loud was co-written by a close friend.
Amy Wadge, a struggling songwriter unable to pay her own mortgage, drove to Sheeran's house and asked if she could write a song with him. In a recent interview, Sheeran said the hit changed her life. "[Wadge] was going through financial troubles about a year ago ... She drove to my house - my album was nearly done and she asked if I could put a song from when I was 17 on the deluxe album," Sheeran told The Mirror. "While she was there, we wrote Thinking Out Loud ... Now she never has to worry about money again."

Willis backs Bridges anti-violence stance T
he Biggest Loser's Steve "The Commando" Willis has jumped to back up his partner Michelle Bridges on her comments against violence. Bridges appeared on Studio 10 this week and said violence against men was just as bad as violence against women and children. Some of her fellow hosts on the show disagreed with her, saying that violence against women and children was more of an issue that needed to be addressed. "I'm anti violence against humanity, all genders," Bridges told AAP on Wednesday. The couple were at an event in Sydney to launch Who magazine's most Intriguing people issue at Ananas Bar in The Rocks. Willis was quick to jump in and back up his partner on the issue. "It's an interesting subject and topic with women and men, and finding that gender balance," he said. Willis also asked why we have to categorise between women and men on the issue, backing up the stance Bridges had taken. "What about in same-sex relationships, the violence in same-sex relationships? If there is violence in same-sex relationships that's two men," he said.
Bridges, who is due to give birth to the couple's fist child together in five weeks, went on the explain their ethos on the subject. "We're just anti violence: children, adults, male, female, even animals," she said. Both agreed it was good that the topic was just being discussed.
Beckham defends use of skinny models S
inger-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham is defending her decision to feature superskinny models in her runway shows, insisting all the women who work for her are "healthy". Earlier this year, the former Spice Girls star came under fire for using particularly slender models to wear her clothing on the catwalk, including 17-year-old Peyton Knight who faced a barrage of online criticism over her size.
However, Victoria is adamant all the models who walk in her shows are checked out to make sure they are not ill or underweight. "I wasn't the only show she (Peyton)

Gwen Stefani launches pet accessories line N
o Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani's fashion empire is going to the dogs - she is expanding into pet clothing.
Stefani has teamed up with designers at Petco to launch the Harajuku Lovers collection, which features dog toys, clothing, accessories and hats inspired by her Harajuku Lovers clothing line that she created in 2005. Despite the singer's success in the fashion industry, Stefani admits she had to work hard to convince bosses at the company to let her design a collection for pooches. "I wanted to do this collection for so long because the people that I work with around me that I love, they wanted so desperately for me to do a line of dog wear and toys and things like that," she told People.com. "And it's really hard - we had to really stalk them to let us do it, and we got it and so now, here it is and it's really exciting." The 20-piece collection features designs linked to her early days with rock band No Doubt. "We went back to the beginning of time when I first discovered music and was really into discovering ska music, (and) music out of England," she said. "And that was the reason we started doing No Doubt, so you can see the British flag and the record and you can see (it in) the little hat and checkerboards and things that just represent that time period."

Vikander the 'new girl' Elizabeth Hurley's fan sends soiled undies in Dragon Tattoo? A
licia Vikander is reportedly in talks to replace Rooney Mara in the sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake.
Mara played Lisbeth Salander in 2011, but when asked if she would reprise her role in a sequel earlier this year, she expressed sadness over the prospect that the film would not be made. Producers Scott Rudin and Amy Pascal are now looking to move forward with The Girl in the Spider's Web and they are interested in Vikander taking over as the leading lady, according to TheWrap.com. It's unclear why Mara is not returning to the franchise but director David Fincher and the 30-year old's co-star Daniel Craig are also unlikely to be involved with the film, based on the fourth novel in Stieg Larsson's book series. Noomi Rapace starred in the original adaptation of the Millennium Trilogy books, which became acclaimed Scandinavian movies half a decade ago.
A
ctress Elizabeth Hurley has been left completely disgusted by a fan who has taken to sending her his used underwear. Hurley loves her fans and takes time to read mail from them, but she was grossed out by one devotee who started sending her his soiled underpants on a weekly basis. The actress and model admits her disgust has turned to good humour over the months. "(We call him) the underpants man," she told US late night host Seth Meyers on Tuesday. "(He) worries the girls in my office and I, initially, but now we quite enjoy it. "He started to send me a pair of his underpants every week ... used. They're totally disgusting; it is revolting. The first time it came we opened it and went, 'Oh my God, what is this?' and it was a disgusting pair of his underpants. "Week after week they come and now I have to say it is the most exciting thing that happens in our office. "(It's like), 'What's he going to send this time?' and he runs with everything. We have boxers, we have tighty-whities, we have everything; we kept them." `Underpants Man' is not Hurley's only weird fan - another writes her letters detailing his urine mishaps. "We call him the wee-wee man, which is really revolting," she continued.

BIG GUIDE 29
FIONA BOYES : BEST BLUES ALBUM TO SOULTRAIN S
unday’s at Davey’s have never been bigger and it aint gonna stop there! With an exciting new roster just announced, Soultrain welcomes back the legendary Chris Wilson and crew, Geoff Achison makes his long-awaited return to Soultrain and Jimi Hocking’s back from a national tour with The Screaming Jets. One not to miss is Fiona Boyes celebrating her win for ‘Best Blues Album’ at last weeks Age Music Victoria Music Awards. Fiona performs her final show as a local in an exclusive farewell gig for Sunday Soultrain on December 6. Winning ‘Best Blues Album’ and hitting #5 on the U.S Blues Radio Charts doesn’t happen every day! Australian Blues guitarist and singer, Fiona Boyes, has been variously described by reviewers as a ‘musical anomaly’, ‘Bonnie Raitt’s evil twin’, or simply as ‘scaring the hell out of me’. How did this fair-haired gal, born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, of Scottish and English heritage, become an internationally recognised and awarded recording and touring artist? How did she come to be the first woman and non-American to win the International Blues Challenge in Memphis? Why did some of the great Mississippi Delta and Chicago blues giants, such as the late Pinetop Perkins and Hubert Sumlin, choose to describe her as one of the best women guitar players since Memphis Minnie, record on her albums, and share stages with her at international Blues festivals? How does it come about
that the Mayor of Clarksdale, Mississippi, birthplace of the Blues, should present Fiona with the ‘Key To The City’, recognising her as an Aussie ambassador of the Blues? The answer lays partly in Fiona’s striking and original talent; she writes, sings and plays just about anything in the Blues realm with passion and authenticity. It is also her immersion in the wide musical and historical traditions that make up the Blues and her deep love of the art-form itself. Fiona has been recording and performing internationally for more than 25 years, building a career that has taken her to major festivals and stages in Australia, New Zealand, North America and Europe. A veteran recording artist with 13 releases, 6 international award winning albums, 4 successive Blues Music Award nominations in 4 different categories, 15 Australian Blues awards, as well as a string of accolades in the folk, jazz, and Americana scene, Fiona has carved out a well deserved reputation as a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and band leader. Equally at home on acoustic or electric guitars, her repertoire is like a Blues travelogue. Listen to her play and you’ll hear pre-war Delta slide, wailing laments, single chord Mississippi Hills grooves, intricate and beautiful Piedmont finger picking, rollicking New Orleans barrelhouse, greasy Memphis soul, driving classic Chicago sounds, the country styling’s of Texas swing, and the uptown sounds of the West Coast.
With an exciting new music deal, Fiona and family are only weeks away from relocating interstate making this performance at Davey’s her last as a local and a very sentimental farewell. COLIN ARCHER YACHT
FISHINGREPORT THE END OF SNAPPER SEASON IS FAST APPROACHING Well it’s now half way through November and Xmas is fast approaching so we best make the most of the snapper season as it will be gone in the blink of an eye. Western Port has been a little tough since Cup Day with the slower tides but this is getting better with bigger tides this week however some anglers are still going well.
Port Phillip seems to have kicked into another gear with quality fish being caught along the marks on the transit lanes there have even been some die hard Western Port anglers heading over for a dangle with a change of scenery and unweighted baits and light gear being the draw card.
Bay trout are plentiful around the St Kilda marina and the squid are going well at The Snapper have been going ok and Mount Martha/Mornington. best spots have been strait out the front of Hastings, Silver leaves, Rhyll, and Lysaght’s is starting to fire up now. The fish have been going in the middle of the tide not at the change which is a little different to the norm however the charter boats are picking up fish whilst drifting so it may pay to give this a go if the fish shut down during the tide change. The whiting have also started to fire up with a bit more run in the water but with a lot of boat traffic around it may pay to find a quiet spot away from the main thoroughfare. Squid have been good with some crackers about. We had a day on the squid with one bag of ten squid weighing 13kg’s. Off shore is starting to fire up with a small Mako being caught, the arrow squid plentiful so this shark season may be promising the only problem are the couta so it makes bottom bouncing a expensive proposition with lost tackle.

Leaders call for Russian Olympics ban
L
eaders of the world anti-doping movement are calling for Russian track athletes to be banned from next year's Olympics, saying the nine-month window between now and the games isn't enough to ensure the program and its athletes are clean.
The iNADO leaders are responding to last week's report by an independent commission that detailed corruption and rule-breaking inside the Russian track team and the country's anti-doping system.
The Institute of National Anti-Doping Organisations (iNADO) will send its declaration to the World Anti-Doping Agency, which holds its annual meetings later this week in Colorado Springs.
While the Russian and International Olympic Committees negotiate the country's return, the iNADO leaders said the Russian track team hasn't demonstrated it can send a clean team to the Olympics.
The sport's governing body has provisionally suspended the track team.

“What we have achieved is transforming the game from an ethnic sport to a mainstream sport”
Football giant Lowy leaves the stage
M
odern Australian sport has never known a godfather like Frank Lowy.
But on Tuesday, football's spiritual leader and great reformer passes on one of the family businesses - running the sport - to his son Steven. At 2pm (AEDT), Lowy will retire after 12 years as Football Federation Australia chairman.
The A-League particularly is Lowy's creation.
After emigrating to Australia from war-torn Europe, Lowy pursued his interest in football alongside a burgeoning business career that would see him become one of the world's richest men.
Lowy was a founding father of the National Soccer League in the 1970s as well as It is far from his only service to the sport and providing leadership for his club Sydney Hakoah. lifelong love, but his most significant. The 85-year-old is not a man for reflection but if pushed says he is proudest of helping to change the way Australians think about the world game.
"Every time there was a crisis they called for Lowy," he says of football powerbrokers' efforts to get the retailing giant back into a leadership role.
"What we have achieved is transforming the He resisted their calls until 2003, when game from an ethnic sport to a mainstream Prime Minister John Howard was drafted in to get Lowy over the line as Australian sport," he told AAP. By his reckoning, the AFL still holds the top ranking.
Lowy acknowledges he leaves Steven with much to do.
Not least of all is the A-League, which stutters through growing pains as it enters an 11th season. Crowds and television audiences are static, which Lowy concedes could be due to a lack of star names in the competition. Lowy confirmed that expansion to 14 teams is still on head office's agenda but - contrary to reports that a third Sydney team is imminent - adding new clubs is still years away after a the board undertakes a major new study. Lowy is proud of where he leaves both men's and women's national teams. During a bumper 2015, the Matildas became the first Australian side to win a knock-out match at a World Cup, and the Socceroos followed in their footsteps by becoming Asian champions. Lowy reserves special praise for Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou, who has become a universally respected part of Australia's football leadership. "He arrived to this position at the right time, at the right place, as the right person," he said. "He will regenerate the Socceroos to a strong force in the world. "I told him that I want him to be grey before he leaves that job."

Liberatore back for AFL slog T
om Liberatore has emerged from a year in the AFL wilderness along with the young Western Bulldogs pups on the first day of their pre-season training.
Liberatore missed the entire 2015 season - a breakout year for the Bulldogs - after suffering a knee injury that required reconstruction in the first weekend of the pre-season cup. While the 23-year-old isn't required at Whitten Oval until the club's senior players join in training next week, he popped up for running drills away from the main group on Monday. Jack Macrae, part of the club's first to fourth-year players who began the slog to season 2016, said his progress had been an inspiration to younger players. "He's really dug into his rehab which has been really impressive," he said. "We all know what kind of player he is and what he brings on and off the field, next year hopefully he comes back strong." Such was the Bulldogs' surge in fortunes this year, Macrae said at times he forgot the 2014 club champion wasn't playing. The Dogs jumped from 14th in 2014 to sixth, largely off the back of the younger players that resumed their training on Monday. Macrae said Tory Dickson was the pick of the bunch, "smashing" a stop-til-you-drop running test set on their first day back. Nathan Hrovat and Lachie Hunter were also nominated as strong performers. Aside from Liberatore's appearance on Whitten Oval, the biggest sight for sore eyes was coach Luke Beveridge. Beveridge was wearing a handlebar mustache as part of fundraising efforts for "Movember". Macrae admitted to pangs of jealousy that his 21-year-old face wouldn't allow him to join the fray. "A few boys got a laugh out of it, it works for him - if only I could grow one," he said. "All the young boys are back but I don't think any of us can grow one at this stage, in a few years maybe we'll jump on board."

rematch is on the cards after Holly Holm's knockout of champion Ronda Rousey who has been taken to hospital after their UFC world bantamweight title fight in front of a record crowd in Melbourne.
Holm, a multiple boxing world champion, delivered on her promise to shock the world on Sunday, stopping Rousey with a head kick 59 seconds into the second round to send the star crashing to the canvas. It appeared Rousey was close to unconscious as she hit the deck and Holm followed up with several strikes before the referee stopped the fight in front of 56,214 fans at Etihad Stadium.
rematch makes sense for sure"
The rematch might well be set for UFC 200 next year and Rousey would want to grant Holm a little more respect. "I think a rematch makes sense for sure," Holm said. "I've been on the losing side of a fight and wanted to avenge my loss - absolutely, she deserves a rematch. I think a rematch is an unspoken common sense to me." The rematch idea was something UFC president Dana White would also like to see. "We don't make fights the night of the fight but the rematch makes sense," White said. "It changes a lot of things, the 'Cyborg' fight, some other stuff we were working on." Rousey, who was taken to hospital due to a concussion and a split lip, didn't attend the post-fight media conference, with White doing her talking for her. "She was transported because she got knocked out and her lip was split open," White said. "She's completely bummed out and depressed, but that's it." Holm, who had achieved eight of her previous MMA victories by knockout, but had gone the distance in her two UFC fights, said head kicks to Rousey were the plan. "I visualised if the head kick was there, to go for it. If it was there, I wanted to take it and it was there," she said. "I didn't want to kick her in the body and have her trap my leg." The win propelled Holm's MMA record to 10-0 and dropped Rousey's to 12-1 as UFC commentator Joe Rogan called it the biggest upset in the sport. Holm is one of two undefeated women's title holders in the UFC, after Joanna Jedrzejczyk took her record to 11-0 with a unanimous decision victory over Canada's Valerie Letourneau.
