Jakarta attack could have been much worse T
he deadly terrorist attack in the centre of Jakarta confirms the growing threat Islamic State poses in Indonesia, but the outcome could have been much worse. Indonesia specialist Greg Fealy, from the Australian National University, says that if the perpetrators had been more efficient terrorists, many more people might have been killed.
IS and the war in Iraq and Syria have been a source of inspiration for violent jihadists in Indonesia, but Thursday's attack was the first larger-scale effort claimed by the group in the world's most populous Muslim nation. At least seven people were killed and dozens injured when the militants attacked a police post near a shopping mall in an affluent area of the capital, and set off multiple blasts including a suicide bomb near a Starbucks cafe. IS has claimed responsibility, saying the attack was carried out by a detachment of its forces in Indonesia who "targeted a gathering of crusader coalition citizens". The outcome could have been much worse, Associate Professor Fealy told AAP. "It was very crude. And the perpetrators looked like amateurs." He had spent nine years in jail for having sex with two 15-yearold girls, claiming God and the Virgin Mary told him to use them to repopulate the earth. Both victims had lived in Mr Kamm's religious community "The Order of Saint Charbel" at Cambewarra, near Nowra. The stubby sex offender has been found to be at high risk of re-offending and cannot live in his group's community as part of the extended supervision order (ESO), handed down in the Supreme Court on Friday by Justice Ian Harrison. The court is also worried about Kamms's future residence, Justice Harrison saying the order was needed to prevent him from luring under-age
Outside court Kamm said he would adhere to the many conditions imposed as part of the order. "Of course, I always do anyway," he told reporters, holding the hand of a middle-aged woman who was with him in the court. As part of the supervision order Kamm must stay way from females under 17 years old, adhere to a 10pm-to-6am curfew, provide authorities with plans for his movements, remain in NSW and avoid Nowra, among other areas. In August Kamm said his order had 50,000 followers across the world who met in weekly prayer groups. The supervision order is set to expire in January 2021.

Two die in separate Vic drownings T
he drowning deaths of a Filipino woman and a Melbourne man in separate incidents have capped off a tragic two days on Victoria's Gippsland coast. The woman, 34, was one of 15 people swept out to sea by a rip tide on Phillip Island just minutes after off-duty lifeguards warned the group about the rip. The lifeguards were going for an evening swim at Cape Woolamai beach when they noticed 15 people wading in knee-deep water near a rip.
They asked the group to leave the water and a short time later "heard a commotion" and saw four people struggling in the water. Two lifeguards and a surfer initially pulled two people from the water, while the other two were found floating face down up to 60 metres from shore, Life Saving Victoria said. They performed CPR on them before paramedics arrived.
"I put my arm around her, held on to the board and I kicked in, then I went out to get another one but I just couldn't, and then the lifesavers were there and I let them handle it." Lifesavers already at the beach sent messages to colleagues, and soon 17 assisted with the mass rescue. A man and woman were flown by advanced life support paramedics to The Alfred hospital. The woman died there on Monday while a man, 27, is in a critical condition.
Two men and a woman are also recovering Surfer Ed Borromeo said he found a woman in hospital. unconscious in the water. Life Saving Victoria warned people not to swim outside patrol hours and not to panic if "I was just scared," he told reporters at the beach on Monday. caught in a rip.

f you're planning an illegal beach party with 6,000 guests, it's probably best to keep it off social media. A Facebook event page called Triple J Hottest 100 Party 2016 at St Kilda Beach has had a visit from Victoria Police - and they've invited themselves to the party. "Hi Jai and Clint. This is Victoria Police. We know this party is not sanctioned by Triple J, so we're assuming you haven't got any permits from Port Phillip Council either?" the Victoria Police post reads. "We'll pay you a visit on Australia
Day and let's hope we don't spoil your party!" The event has 19,000 people listed as "interested" and 6,000 attending. "Bring a buddy, bring your beers, bring a little tradie radio and switch her to 107.5 ... this is an open event, spread the word and bring the gang!" the invitation reads. Facebook users have reacted angrily, with many using the hashtag #nannystate. "Uh oh, looks like the fun police are back in action," Phineas Gage said on the page.
"If you're caught in a rip current stay calm, conserve your energy and call out to seek help," Life Saving Victoria's Greg Scott said in a statement. "If you float with the current, it may return you to a shallow sandbank." On Monday afternoon, a 75-year-old Maribyrnong man drowned at Coronet Bay, minutes from Phillip Island. Police say he was swimming with a relative and was found face down in the water. An off-duty nurse attempted CPR but he died on the beach.

Drug lord Guzman faces extradition to the US M
exico aims to extradite drug lord Joaquin "Chapo" Guzman to the United States after security forces recaptured the fugitive cartel leader. He blew his cover through a series of slip ups, including an attempt to make a movie about his life. Native animals shot with arrows in NSW A
wildlife volunteer and fire brigade on the NSW Central Coast have made a plea to those killing native animals in the area: just stop. A live goanna with an arrow shot through its stomach became the latest case of animal cruelty on Wednesday afternoon after being spotted by a member of the public up a tree on a fire trail at Wyee Point. James Cooney from Wildlife ARC, a volunteer native animal protection group, attended the scene and found the injured animal “15 to 20 feet up the tree”. “The arrow went through its back and came out through its stomach,” he said.
The goanna was taken to a vet clinic and put under general anesthesia where the arrow was removed. Mr Cooney has been given a course of antibiotics to administer to the goanna twice a day. He said despite goannas being like “a skink on steroids” he had seen reptiles die as a result of stress, and urged people responsible to “please stop”. “Native Australian reptiles are all protected so you can’t kill them,” he said. Other native animals in the area have not been as lucky.

The prime minister is set to receive the bells-and-whistles treatment - including residency at the prestigious Blair House when he arrives in Washington DC for his first official visit. Terrorism, trade and the economy will dominate Mr Turnbull's two-day agenda in the US. Fresh from a whirlwind weekend trip to Iraq and Afghanistan, Mr Turnbull is likely to draw on his own first-hand insights into the military efforts to defeat Islamic extremists during talks with President Barack Obama and Defense Secretary Ash Carter. Great white shark dies in Japan aquarium A
g reat white shark has died after barely three days in captivity in a Japanese aquarium.
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium says the 3.5-metre shark, which was accidentally caught in a net in southwestern Japan on Tuesday, had died early on Friday. The cause of death was under investigation. Keeping a great white shark in captivity is extremely difficult
as it needs to keep swimming constantly to get oxygen and maintain its body temperature. Aquarium officials say it suddenly weakened and sank to the bottom of the tank, and efforts to give it oxygen in a separate special tank failed.
An official for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, Asia criticised keeping the shark in captivity as "cruel and wrong".

All that's required is the right software. For recording and streaming, Open Broadcaster is a good free option. The open source program Audacity is useful for editing audio. Then there's the video editing.

I
n road traffic, it only takes a fraction of a second or a brief distraction to put the rider in a dangerous situation. In 2003, BMW became the first European automobile manufacturer to introduce a head-up display as optional equipment for BMW automobiles.
head-up display function. This enables the projection of data directly into the rider's field of view. This means that the rider no longer has to glance at the instrument panel and he is able to concentrate fully and without distraction on the road traffic.
The BMW head-up display projects necessary or desirable traffic or vehicle information directly into the rider's field of view, allowing him to maintain constant observation of the traffic on the road, with no distraction. This would appear even more important with motorcycles than it is with cars, because it can sometimes only take a brief visual distraction to put the rider in a critical road situation.
All displays are freely programmable; ideally, to provide the best-possible support for rider safety, only information that is helpful and relevant to the current situation should be displayed to the rider at any given moment.
The helmet with head-up display also offers interesting possibilities for making the highly emotional experience of motorcycle riding even more intensive and at the same time safer. For instance, an action camera pointing forwards, located inside the helmet, can record video footage of the journey directly from the helmet. A second camera oriented towards the rear could at some point in the future perform the function of a 'digital rear-view mirror'. And last but not least, this technology also enables the visualisation of other riders in a motorcycle group. This enables the rider to see where his companions are at any given moment.
The display options comprise safety-relevant information, for instance data relating to the technical status of the motorcycle, such as tyre pressure, oil level and fuel level, travel speed and selected gear, speed limit and road sign recognition, plus warnings of impending dangers.
The helmet, which is also fitted with an integrated mini-computer and loudspeakers, is controlled from the left-hand handlebar fittings using the BMW Motorrad multicontroller. As well as operating the camera, this allows the rider to comfortably select the information he requires.
By means of the future V2V (vehicle-tovehicle) communication, it might also be possible to display information in real time, for example to give due warning of any suddenly impending hazards.
The necessary information display technology can be integrated in existing helmets, without affecting either wearer comfort or rider safety. The operating time of the system with the two replaceable batteries is around five hours.
Moreover, the head-up display also allows the visualisation of content designed to increase rider comfort. An example would be the planned route along with navigation advice prior to commencing a journey.
BMW Motorrad wants to develop this innovative technology to series-production level within the next few years, thus adding a further safety feature to its already wide range of rider equipment.
With a view to offering this technology in motorcycles of the future, a predevelopment process was conducted in which a BMW Motorrad helmet was fitted with an innovative

And while you may not have heard of it, the internet certainly has. The film is the crowd-funded effort from the American pioneer of video game entertainment, Rooster Teeth. The Aussie fan base of the group, which has over 25 million YouTube subscribers, is using local cinema-on-demand platform Tugg to bring Lazer Team to the big screen. million into helping Rooster Teeth make Lazer Team, its first movie. One Australian devotee even pledged $10,000 to receive an executive producer credit. Outside of the United States, Australian supporters donated the most to the film's making, warranting a red-carpet premiere with cast and crew in Sydney on January 22. With such a huge audience, the film has more than 70 screenings across the country despite having no studio backer. Instead, fans have used a new distribution model, Tugg, which allows people to hold one-off showings at their local cinema. With the screenings promoted on social media, all that's required is a minimum presale of 50 tickets, a demand level Lazer Team has far exceeded. "Every capital city has got multiple screenings with the biggest ones, 500, 400 seat theatres, all sold out and other ones being added," Tugg Australia chief executive David Doepel said.
perfect example of an audience elevating a niche work. "The industry has been waiting for stories like this where we've translated a really passionate, devoted subscriber base from the small screen to the big screen and everyone benefits."
The film kicks off Tugg's second year in Australia with a bang. At least 30 more films - ranging from documentaries to film festival Lazer Team has become Tugg's biggest movie picks - are slated for the big screen in the next on record, with Mr Doepel describing it as the few months.
Driverless taxi offers glimpse of future
A
South Korean university is testing a sedan that can pick up and transport passengers without a human driver, giving a glimpse into the future of autonomous public transport.
Seo Seung-Woo, director of the Intelligent Vehicle IT Research Center at Seoul National University, said the university has been testing the driverless taxi to transport handicapped students around campus. The vehicle, called Snuber, has been navigating the 4,109 square metre campus for the past six months without any accidents. It works in conjunction with a hailing app created by the university. Companies around the world are betting that automated driving technology will transform public transportation. In Japan, a company called Robot Taxi Inc. plans to offer a full commercial service in 2020. In Greece, driverless buses called CityMobil2 have been tested in real traffic. General Motors Co. says it is investing $500 million in ride-hailing company Lyft Inc. and forming a partnership that could eventually lead to on-demand, self-driving cars. South Korean companies, however, have been slow to embrace the self-driving technology. The country's largest carmaker, Hyundai, said it expects to roll out a fully automated car in 2030. Only this month, Samsung Electronics created a team to focus on autonomous driving. On the campus of Seoul National University, many heads turn as the grey sedan passes. It has a turret on its roof with devices that scan road conditions. Seo's team outfitted the
Genesis sedan with a camera, laser scanners and other sensors. For now, due to regulations banning autonomous vehicles on the roads, a driver is behind the steering wheel and can override the automation in emergency situations.
The car cannot travel faster than 30 kilometres per hour because of the speed limit on campus. There are no full traffic lights but researchers have programmed Snuber to navigate around other challenges. The vehicle applies a brake pedal at a red stop sign and at a pedestrian crosswalk. When another vehicle stops in the middle of the road, the automated sedan will scan the other lanes to detect vehicles travelling from
the opposite direction. If there are no other vehicles, the Snuber moves into the oncoming lane to pass the vehicle. However, it is not yet ready for use outside the relatively controlled campus environment. "It will take a huge amount of time and effort," said Seo. "We need more tests in real traffic conditions." He said in early 2020, a driverless car will be running between tollgates on highways. A door-to-door pickup service using a selfdriving car is likely in early 2030, he said. Experts said such services have the potential to change delivery businesses, not only mass transport.

Your Horoscopes ARIES Your feeling of happiness isn’t synced with that of your partner. You are in great shape and you feel wonderful but your other half is a bit edgy. Be patient, it will pass automatically if you don’t pour oil on the fire.
TAURUS With all these nice evenings it’s fun to do pleasant things with your partner and if you don’t have a partner you can do things with a good friend. You should invite people, you haven’t seen for a while, for dinner or a party.
GEMINI It doesn’t always have to be great and compelling. Happiness can be found in a small corner. You will find it if you try your best because it lies hidden. When you discover you’ll feel as if you are in seventh heaven.
CANCER You want to connect with people whom you can share your feelings with. Eroticism plays a subordinate role. It is primarily the emotional intimacy you are looking for. A setback could throw you of balance but it’s not as a bad as you think.
LEO This week will start with fireworks but once it is extinguished a calm period starts. You show your good side by helping others and by making an effort for a good cause. That will earn you credits. VIRGO Through others, especially that special person, you will learn to know yourself better if you are open for clues and maybe even criticism. Take this in a positive way and fit it into your life as if it was the missing piece of the puzzle.
LIBRA You are enjoying all the attention and compliments, which is well deserved, but still. You want to believe it all too eagerly. Try to make a distinction between who means it and who doesn’t. SCORPIO It’s okay to be busy but it’s not okay if you don’t pay enough attention to the people you love. Take a look at whom you need to free up some time for. If you keep on running you will miss out on some interesting opportunities to increase your income. SAGITTARIUS Someone close to you could irritate you and the best remedy is to just ignore it. Let things go and don’t let something small ruin your pleasant mood. Rise above it. The windows of the shops are smiling at you and want to lure you in.
It took Hayek six years to bring the animated movie, based on the same-named 1923 book by Lebanese poet and philosopher Khalil Gibran, to the silver screen. "It's a film that is the fruit of the love of hundreds of people who have been working on it with lots of passion, lots of patience," she said at a Mexico City press conference. Gibran's book has sold more than 120 million copies worldwide to people of all religions, she said, and the secret to that is that it speaks of love, death, the appreciation of food, friendship, children - the things that unite all people. Hayek said that the animated film is not only designed for children, but rather people of "all ages," although it's also for "children who have the potential to change the world." Hayek provides the voice of Kamila, the mother of the protagonist Mustafa, in the film's English version.
CAPRICORN You know the grass is always greener on the other side and still you keep fantasizing about it. It’s fine to dream but reckless behaviour isn’t a good idea. Desires don’t always have to be fulfilled.
AQUARIUS You could get caught up in the blues this week. You just sit and stare, wondering what you have to do now with yourself and the rest of the world. Wallow for a little bit but not for too long.
PISCES It is never pleasant to lose something or someone. Still there is a lesson to learn there: letting go. That’s an art and it demands some practice but this week is the perfect time to start with that.

rueling revenge movie The Revenant emerged as the Oscar front-runner on Thursday in nominations that pit big-budget movies against small personal dramas and once again shut actors of colour out of the industry's biggest honours. The hashtag #OscarsSoWhite was quickly revived on Twitter. It had emerged last year, when only white actors received nods. The Die Hard star lost his battle with cancer on Thursday at the age of 69, and there has since been an outpouring of tributes from his famous fans, friends and colleagues. Rickman is best known for playing Hogwarts teacher Severus Snape in the films based on JK Rowling's Harry Potter books, and fans of the franchise have been laying flowers at a special monument inside King's Cross station. The north London terminal was mentioned in the books and films as the site where young wizards caught the Hogwarts Express to school from platform nine and three quarters, and a monument has been placed where the fictional platform would have stood. The sculpture, which shows a luggage trolley disappearing into a brick wall, has become a magnet for Potter fans wishing to pay their respects to Rickman, and it has been covered in flowers and messages. Rickman's Potter co-stars including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, as well as author Rowling, all mourned the actor's loss on Thursday. "Alan Rickman is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with. He is also, one of the loyalest and most supportive people I've ever met in the film industry," Daniel wrote in a statement posted online. "He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years postPotter. I'm pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn't have to do that... "As an actor he was one of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a child... "I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career. Film sets and theatre stages are all far poorer for the loss of this great actor and man."

Bowie told he was terminal in November D
avid Bowie's cancer was in remission six months ago, but he was dealt a devastating blow in November when he was told the disease had returned and his condition was terminal, according to producer Tony Visconti. The Starman singer died on Sunday, 18 months after he was fell ill with liver cancer and just two days after the release of his final record, Blackstar. Visconti, who worked with Bowie on many of his hit albums over the years, has now revealed the music legend broke the news of his health crisis to him a year ago after he started chemotherapy and lost his hair.

"He just came fresh from a chemo session, and he had no eyebrows, and he had no hair on his head," Visconti told Rolling Stone. "There was no way he could keep it a secret from the band. But he told me privately, and I really got choked up when we sat face to face talking about it." Visconti went on to explain that Bowie appeared to be winning his cancer battle in the middle of last year, but he was given a terminal diagnosis in November when
doctors found the disease had spread. "He was optimistic because he was doing the chemo and it was working," he added. "And at one point in the middle of last year, he was in remission. I was thrilled. And he was a bit apprehensive. He said, 'Well, don't celebrate too quickly. For now I'm in remission, and we'll see how it goes'. "And he continued the chemotherapy. So I thought he was going to make it. And in November, it just suddenly came back. It had spread all over his body, so there's no recovering from that." Bowie even started working on a follow-up to Blackstar and recorded five demos before his health took a turn for the worse, but Visconti was convinced the album had been deliberately written as a farewell to fans. "(I told him) 'You canny (clever) b**tard. You're writing a farewell album'..." he added. "He was so brave and courageous. And his energy was still incredible for a man who had cancer. He never showed any fear. He was just all business about making the album."
David Bowie scores first number one album
D
avid Bowie has posthumously scored his first number one album in America with Blackstar.
Bowie's final album, released in Britain just two days before he lost his battle with liver cancer at the age of 69, has shot to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, ending Adele's reign at the top - as it did in the UK on Friday. Adele's 25 falls to number two after spending seven weeks at number one, while Justin Bieber's Purpose rounds out the new top three. Bowie's Best of Bowie compilation re-enters the chat at four, while Twenty One Pilots' Blurryface closes out the top five. On Friday, 18 of Bowie's albums re-entered the UK Top 40, while Blackstar rocketed to number one.

Was Madonna drunk on stage? M
adonna has been accused of performing her most recent concert while under the influence.
Some fans in Louisville, Kentucky were confused at the `Unapologetic B****' singer's antics on Sunday, where she apparently arrived three hours late to her Rebel Heart concert, forgot what city she was performing in and trashtalked the locals. Celebrity website TMZ says one fan claimed Madonna even "spoke in a fake hillbilly accent". Another fan, Macauley Miller, said on twitter the concert was one of the "weirdest experiences" of his life, adding "I'm pretty sure Madonna is hammered drunk on stage". In one conversation caught on video and uploaded to YouTube on Sunday, Madonna is heard apologising for confusing Louisville for Oklahoma. "Maybe someone slipped some bourbon into my throat coat tea or something?" she says. "I'm mixing everything up. My choreography, my words, I put my skirt on backwards, forgot to zip my shoe. I don't even know who I am." Other fans lapped up the antics, saying Madonna was quite funny. Madonna herself seemed to be on the same page, posting a photo on her Instagram of her laying down on stage, with the caption "Working on my stand up laying down. Thanks Louisville! The tears of a clown soon to follow." Madonna is currently on her Rebel Heart world tour and will be in Australia in March.

FALLS FESTIVAL RISES FROM THE ASHES W
hen bad things happen in life you can cry, scream and give up hope, or you can embrace the change and make the best of the situation! That is exactly what the iconic Falls Festival did when the devastating fires nearby Lorne forced them to relocate. What I experienced was thousands of music loving, laid back people all there to start the New Year at one of Australia’s oldest and most respected events! Within 48 hours of informing festival goers the event was moving to Mt Duneed estate (the home of a Day on the Green) they not only managed to lay down the stages, lighting and sound equipment but they also raised over $100,000 for the Red Cross bush fire relief. They released additional tickets with 100% of proceeds going to the appeal. It is not surprising they sold out so quickly with the previous tickets selling out months in advance.
Gary Clark Jr is flagged as “the king of summer festivals” by Rolling Stone. With a title like that I was eager to see what the alternative blues singer from Texas had in store! His performance was captivating from start to finish.
Having never been to the Lorne estate I really cannot compare the two sites. I spoke to a few Falls veterans and they said it was just “simply different”. The Mt Duneed estate was beautiful and located not far from the surf coast off the Great Ocean road (15 minutes from Geelong and 1 hour from Melbourne). The site was full of picturesque vineyards and a sunset I will never forget. What I loved about this festival was the anything goes attitude with an almost “hippy vibe”. From baggy hemp pants, fluorescent stockings, floppy hats and platforms, it really didn’t matter what you was wearing, as long as it was a smile!
of fascinators, earrings, dream catches, pom pom pets, crystal necklaces and crochet water bottle holders. You could indulge in a massage, tarot reading or a reiki session; the list just goes on. I had to show some love to Perth born Birds of Tokyo. This is a name that almost goes hand in hand with Australia. It was however my first opportunity to see the rock band live and I loved every minute of it.
With so many artists and shows on offer I did my best to see them all. The music ranged from hip hop to folk, electronic pop and rock and roll which kicked off everyday around noon until well after midnight.
Gang of Youths who claim to be “dad rock” had all of the festival running when it was time for them to play. Within minutes of them starting there were thousands of hands in the air with smiles from ear to ear; the There were so many highlights. Aussie rock atmosphere was incredible. star and winner of Triple J album of the year Falls really is so much more than just Courtney Barnett played to extreme sun and the music though. The early birds could still managed to pull a crowd showing us all start the day with a yoga or meditation how to “carve a carrot into a rose”. session followed by crazy craft making
It was 4 days of fun, making new friends and learning about the meaning of life! Falls has so much to offer and is really something you need to experience at least once in your life time. I suggest if you do plan on making your way to the next Falls Festival that you keep an eye on the ticket ballot to avoid disappointment. For those of you still with the energy there are a bunch of side shows happening around Melbourne and Sydney.

Maintaining Sidestreet’s first class benchmark in free live music each and every Sunday, Sidestreet welcomes Jacob Butler making his Mordy debut on Sunday January 24 for the long weekend. In his native Australia, singer songwriter Jacob Butler is moments away from becoming a household name. With blistering live performances ranging from beer stained pubs, to the iconic Sydney Opera House, to national television appearances watched by millions, Jacob is no stranger to the big or small stage. A 21st century love child of John Lennon and Elvis Costello, Jacob has forced his way into view. A 2005 top five finalist in The X Factor Australia and a 2007 top eight finalist in Australian Idol, Jacob should not to be mistaken for a pop star wannabe… Independently releasing his debut EP Coma in 2009, under his own label Lions Share Recordings, the single peaked at number nine on the AIR Australian Independent Charts, with many in the industry citing a Neil Finn quality to Jacob’s songwriting. Coma was played on over 100 radio stations nationally and featured on a network television promo for Neighbours - Australia’s longest running television series that screens in over 65 countries around the world. Featuring Neighbours stars Pippa Black and Sweeney Young in the video clip, Coma generated extensive Australian media coverage. Side Street is located at 501 Main Street Mordialloc and offers everything you need for a cosy kick back or Summer Sip. Sunday January 24 Sidestreet presents Jacob Butler from 5pm. T
he Audi h-tron quattro concept car offers a preview of what future mobility could look like. It offers excellent range, swift refuelling and sporty road performance, combining a highly efficient fuel cell with a powerful battery that can provide a temporary boost of 100 kW. The car can be fully refuelled with hydrogen in around four minutes, and is then ready to drive for up to 600 kilometres. The technology study also provides a glimpse of things to come in the fields of piloted driving and piloted parking technology. Audi will go into production with this technology in 2017, with the next generation of the A8 luxury sedan. The Audi h-tron quattro concept is another milestone along the path towards future mobility. Whether with purely batterypowered drive, plug-in hybrid, combustion engine or fuel cell – Audi has a command of all alternative drive technologies and offers tailor made solutions for its customers worldwide. The Audi h-tron quattro concept is closely related to the concept car Audi e-tron quattro concept. This latter concept car of a purely electric-drive SUV was first showcased by the brand with the four rings at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Both are based on the second-generation modular longitudinal platform (MLB evo). This concept is especially flexible. For example, both cars use a virtually identical floor assembly despite their different technology. The Audi h-tron quattro concept presents the fifth generation of fuel cell technology from Audi and Volkswagen. Lighter materials reduce the weight and improve performance, responsiveness, service life and efficiency. With an efficiency rating in excess of 60 percent, the fuel cell now surpasses any combustion engine. The ‘stack’ comprising 330 individual cells is
housed in the forward structure. The three hydrogen tanks are located beneath the passenger compartment or luggage compartment but do not impinge on the interior. At a pressure of 700 bar, they store enough hydrogen for a range of up to 600 kilometres. Every tank is made up of several layers – the inner tank from gas-tight polyamide is wrapped in carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) and fibre glass reinforced polymer (FGRP). Like a car with combustion engine, refuelling takes about four minutes. Ideally complementing the fuel cell that develops up to 110 kW, there is a compact lithium-ion battery designed for optimum power output. The battery, weighing less than 60 kilograms, is located beneath the passenger compartment to optimise the centre of gravity. It supplies up to 100 kW of power, ample for a temporary, forceful burst when accelerating. When the car is braked it stores the recovered energy. With 550 Nm of system torque, the Audi h-tron quattro accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than seven seconds; its top speed is governed at 200 km/h. The power from the fuel cell and the high-voltage battery drives two electric motors – one located on the front axle and with an output of 90 kW, the other on the rear axle and developing 140 kW. This concept makes the technology study an electrified quattro. An intelligent management system controls the interplay between them as appropriate for the situation, placing maximum emphasis on efficiency. A heat pump for the interior air conditioning and a large solar roof that generates up to 320 watts, equivalent to adding up to 1,000 kilometres to the range annually, also boost efficiency.

FISHINGREPORT START THE NEW YEAR WITH AN AMAZING CATCH!
F
irst new report of the year, the fishing has been nothing else but amazing. With the snapper season well behind us we have seen anglers turning their ports towards other species, which include Gummies, Mako sharks, King Fish and Whiting galore! All areas of Western Port seem to be firing for the whiting from the top end, right through out to the lower reaches around Flinders. The fish around the middle spit area at the moment are more school sized however if you venture further south towards Flinders or Philip island you could be in for the whiting of a lifetime. There has been some quite good captures of Mako sharks coming from the Cape Shank area, with the right weather this would be a good point to start your burley drift.
The new moon phase that has just passed has seen some great Gummy and Mulloway fishing, mostly taken at night. The king fish have been going quite well for those putting in the time and effort and are being rewarded with multiple captures, however there are some undersized fish amongst them that need to be released. Port Philip Bay; Whiting at Point Cook are going nuts but mostly school sized fish, and when you can bag out in less than hours its great enjoyment for all on board.
GIVEAWAY Winner of the Hosaku pack by Hook em is Alex who reeled in a 14.5kg gummy and before the 3 km paddle offshore, he told his 2 year old daughter he was going to catch a bigger fish than her and he didn’t disappoint!

Bird re-signs with Sharks until 2017 T
he tug of war over Jack Bird is officially over with Cronulla re-signing the NRL young gun until the end of 2017.
Now all Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan has to do is figure out where to play him. The NRL rookie of the year on Friday ended months of soul searching, resisting the temptation to return to ex-club St George Illawarra in 2017. Bird, 20, was a revelation at pivot in his NRL debut year, helping Cronulla make the 2015 semi-finals. He also earned Country Origin honours. However, Bird had been agonising over his future after receiving a lucrative deal from the Dragons who had groomed him through the under 20s system. Then, there was the off-season arrival at Cronulla of James Maloney and Chad Townsend who look set to bump Bird out of the Sharks' halves in 2016. Flanagan was happy to finally get his man but admitted he still had no idea where to play his budding star this season.
spot vacated by Michael Gordon (Parramatta) or switch to the centres. "There is a lot of competition for spots in the team, which is a great position for us to be in and Jack understands that," Flanagan told the Sharks' website.
"He'll be in the team somewhere and training and trials before the start of the season will determine where that is." Bird claimed it did not matter where he played in 2016 despite admitting last season his preferred position was five-eighth. "I'm not demanding a position at all. I'll just be happy to be in the team and to play where Flano needs me to play," he said. Cronulla captain Paul Gallen revealed last month Bird was struggling so much with his "hard decision" that he had sat down with the young gun to offer advice. But Flanagan said he was quietly confident of nabbing the prized signature of Bird who agreed to new terms for this season and a 12-month extension into 2017.
"The members and fans might Bird looks set to vie with Valentine Holmes for the fullback wonder why it all took so long,
but I was always confident he was going to stay," he said. "It was just drawn out due to the details of the contract. "He has a long career ahead of him and it started here so we look forward to having him around for a few more years. "Young players like Val Holmes, Ricky Leutele and Sosaia Feki are the future of our club and it's great Jack will also be a part of it."
Bird made his NRL debut in round four and played the next 22 games straight, scoring eight tries. Bird's re-signing might also affect the future of veteran Dragons pivot Benji Marshall. The off-contract Marshall, 30, was expected to move on or retire at season's end if Bird had opted to return to the Dragons in 2017.
Cotchin confirmed as Tigers skipper
T
rent Cotchin will captain Richmond for a fourth straight AFL season, with Alex Rance and Shane Edwards also added to the Tigers' leadership group. The pair join vice-captains Brett Deledio and Ivan Maric on the five-man leadership panel, with experienced duo Troy Chaplin and Steve Morris dropping out. "Alex and Shane both continuously drive the standards that we expect at our football club, and we know they'll continue to do that in the responsibilities of their new roles," football chief Dan Richardson said. "Although the team has an official leadership group, we place a significant emphasis on the continual leadership development of all of our players, so that we can improve collectively as a football team, and we expect all 45 players
to show leadership at different times."
Rance is coming off a stellar season where he took out the Jack Dyer Medal and earned AllAustralian honours for a second straight year. Edwards has come a long way since he first joined the club as a shy youngster via the 2006 national draft. "It definitely gives me a lot of confidence to say what I think and to bring up things that I think are important, which coming from a while back at the club I haven't really had that," Edwards said. "I've been pretty shy, so it's good to know that I've got the backing of my teammates and coaches." Richmond's leadership group is nominated by the players in consultation with Damien Hardwick and his coaching panel.

Aussie Price back from brink to win Dakar A
s Toby Price lay in hospital with a broken neck, he never imagined that less than three years later he would be the first Australian to win the Dakar Rally in any category.
Following that performance he signed for the Red Bull KTM team, whom he raced for during this year's victory.
The 28-year-old from the NSW Hunter Valley finished almost 40 minutes in front of his nearest rival in the motorcycle division to make history in the gruelling race in Argentina on Sunday.
"It's amazing. I'm over the moon and I still can't believe it."
"This is the very first day I've woken up and been able to process this," Price said.

Olympics will help Simmons: Delly Australian NBA star Matthew Dellavedova believes the upcoming Olympics can help college prodigy Ben Simmons translate his game to the pros. Widely expected to be the No.1 pick in the next NBA draft in June, Simmons' status for the Rio Olympics is uncertain as he prepares to move into the association. But Dellavedova, who went to the London Games in 2012 as a college player, said the experience would only be beneficial to both Simmons and his new team. "International basketball is different to the NBA in style of play and some of the rules. For most people though, just playing international basketball where every possession matters, is a good experience," he said.

Collingwood stars in nude photo scandal
C
ollingwood president Eddie McGuire has labelled star players Dane Swan and Travis Cloke "idiots" after explicit videos, photos and texts were reportedly leaked to the media. Swan sent graphic video, sexually-charged texts and full-frontal nude pictures while Cloke sent nude pictures and a video of him performing a sex act, according to a report in Woman's Day. The report alleges the material was sent to women who were not their partners, but it is unclear if the players were in their current relationships when they were sent. "It would seem that somebody's sucked these idiots into sending out photos and as a result they've got them and sold them to the media," McGuire told Triple M on Monday. Nude photos of Lachlan Keeffe, who is on the club's rookie list while he serves a two-year suspension for testing positive to banned substance clenbuterol, and delisted player Tony Armstrong have also been published by the magazine.
"The club is aware three currently listed players were involved in consensual exchanges of messages + pictures via Instagram," the club tweeted. "The exchanges have been on sale to media outlets for some time + as a result have been obtained + published by a media publication." McGuire said he didn't believe it was a scandal for the club. "It's got nothing to do with Collingwood, ring their managers and the players' association," he said. The AFL's social media policy states the league is likely to view "accessing, downloading or transmitting any kind of sexually explicit material" as inappropriate. McGuire agreed the images and videos appeared to contravene the policy. "Good to know Swanny's got some room for some more tats," McGuire joked. Cloke, 28, is engaged to Rebeccah Panozza while Swan, 31, has been in a relationship with Taylor Wilson for eight years.
Collingwood said on Monday it was a private matter for the players and they would not take any action.
Bulls great Grant backs Aussie NBA clash
N
BA great Horace Grant has backed Andrew Bogut's recent calls for Australia to host a regular season fixture. Grant won three successive championships as the bespectacled member of the legendary Chicago Bulls side of the early 90s alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen and now works as a global ambassador for the NBA. He also won a fourth title with the LA Lakers in 2001 and believes Australia should be offered the chance to emulate London and Mexico City and host a game. The 50-year-old said the distance and time difference between the US and Australia shouldn't be an issue and given the interest in the sport and the growing number of Aussies playing in the NBA it makes sense to take a game there. "It's very important for the NBA to have global games around the world to keep in contact with all the fans," Grant told AAP in London ahead of Thursday's clash between Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors. "It's not too far at all. I was in Australia last year doing
some coaching in Sydney and Melbourne and the passion of basketball is still alive there. "The raw talent is very strong and you are seeing with (Andrew) Bogut and (Patty) Mills they have players good enough to play in championship-winning teams." Raptors coach Dwane Casey is also open to the idea and believes a day will come where the NBA has internationallybased franchises.
IT'S VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE NBA TO HAVE GLOBAL GAMES AROUND THE WORLD TO KEEP IN CONTACT WITH ALL THE FANS "These trips are tough for the teams but it is good for the NBA," Casey told AAP. "You can't look at the distance. Flying to London is like going from Toronto to LA, it's just another road game.
in some year, a point will come where there are professional teams around the world. "I don't know when that will be, but with technology, speed of travel it's something that will happen."
NBA rules prohibit coaches from discussing college players, so "I don't know if they will take Casey was unable to comment a game to Australia soon but I on the progress of Melbournethink at some point at some time born starlet Ben Simmons,
tipped to be the No.1 draft pick in June, but he said Australia is a fertile hunting ground for colleges searching for raw talent. "Australia has always produced good players," he said. Manning leads Broncos to win over Steelers
A
ustralian punter Jordan Berry's hopes of playing in this year's Super Bowl were snuffed out by the Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos. Berry's injury-ravaged Pittsburgh Steelers held a one-point lead with three minutes to go, but Manning orchestrated the matchwinning drive to take Sunday's game in Denver 23-16. It sets up an AFC Championship clash next weekend between Manning and his old foe, New England Patriots' Tom Brady. Manning and Brady have played against each other four times in the playoffs, with the wins split 2-2. The victor of the Broncos-Patriots will play in the Super Bowl on February 7 against the winner of Sunday's NFC Championship
clash between the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals. "I think our defence is guiding us," said Manning, deflecting any praise for himself after the Broncos' win. "Let's make that clear. They played great all season and were dominant today against a high-powered offence." The Broncos were expected to have little trouble with the Steelers, who lost star widereceiver Antonio Brown and running back DeAngelo Williams to injuries earlier in the week. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, suffering a separated shoulder, was heroic, connecting with 24 of his 37 passes for 339 yards. Berry had a poor day punting, shanking two
first-half punts for just 27 yards each and finishing with an average of just 29.3 yards for his six punts. Manning connected with 21 of his 37 passes for 222 yards. The Panthers moved into next weekend's NFC Championship clash with the Cardinals after a 31-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Carolina ran up a 31-0 first half lead and then hung on to fend off the late-charging Seahawks. "It was really excruciating to watch," Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, describing watching his defence attempting to halt the Seahawks, said. "It was a tale of two halves and we have to be better than that."

"I don't know whether Bruce has taken enough responsibility or not. That is something you will have to ask Bruce but I do know that he has worn a lot of criticism for this." Hird said he still believed the substances given to his players were legal. "At no time did I ever, ever consider that banned or performance enhancing drugs would be at our club," he said. "It is just something that never entered my
mind. I still to this date don't believe that anything banned was given to our players." Hird said no one can say what substances the players were given.
his supplements and believes Dank had no reason to deliberately dope Essendon players.
"Sports scientist Stephen Dank can say for certain what they were injected with.
"No one knows except Stephen Dank what they put in those injections. I don't see why he would do it," he said.
"But if that is the case, if no one can say for certain what they were injected with, how can 34 men be found guilty?"
The saga had taken a terrible toll on his family, Hird said. It had also changed him.
Hird said Dank showed he and others photographs of thymomodulin, an approved supplement, and thymomodulin appeared on spreadsheets related to the supplements program.

Hird takes some AFL supplement saga blame FOOTBALL

interviewer Tracey Holmes.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport this week upheld the World Anti-Doping Agency's appeal against the AFL tribunal decision to clear 34 players of taking a banned substance while Hird was coach, handing 34 past and present players a 12-month ban.
I MADE DECISIONS IN REAL TIME THAT IN HINDSIGHT, I THINK WERE WRONG
Speaking to the ABC, Hird said he should have done more to prevent the situation that has now enveloped the club, cruelling its performance since 2012 and potentially ending careers. But Hird said others at Essendon made the situation worse and, while he had no objection to ASADA freely conducting its own investigation, he hinted the AFL had denied the club and the players a fair hearing. "It is not just 2016 that it has wiped off (for the players) and potentially beyond but it has been 2013, 14 and 15 where they weren't able to get the opportunity to play the football to their ability," he told

"I have a level of responsibility in that. I should have known more. I should have done more when the opportunity came.
"I feel extremely guilty for that and bad for that. I can only apologise for that. I made decisions in real time that in hindsight, I think were wrong." "I don't feel like a victim myself but those 34 players are victims of this situation, a situation that, at the first instance, is the responsibility of the Essendon Football Club," he said. "The football club and as a part that I had in it, has to put up its hand and say we made mistakes. "Those mistakes were compounded by people in authority and outside the club.
"When I feel guilt, sadness, devastation for the players, I am also upset at the way the procedural fairness or process was enacted to deny our players procedural fairness and the football club fairness." Hird said part of the blame should be shared by club doctor Bruce Reid, who he said approved supplements for use, because he had a better understanding of the supplements and their effects than other members of the club's hierarchy. Dr Reid remains at the club. "We all should have done more and Bruce would admit he should have done more as well," Hird said. When asked at what point he thought Dr Reid should have taken more responsibility, Hird said: "I don't think Bruce should have to leave the Essendon Football Club. "Bruce's primary concern at all times is the welfare of players. Bruce is a very, very good man. I think he has paid a price - not the price that the players have paid - the players have paid the ultimate price for this
