LETTER FROM

CEO & BOARD PRESIDENT Dear BBBS of NYC Community, Youth mentoring began with a simple idea: all youth have the potential to achieve their biggest possible futures. Since our founding in 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC (BBBS of NYC) has played a vital role in our City. For over 116 years, our organization has persevered, no matter the circumstances, to connect the current generation of New Yorkers to the next generation of leaders. Mentoring has not, will not, and cannot stop, especially in our most tumultuous of times. We are inspired and motivated by what BBBS of NYC accomplished in the face of unimaginable, unforeseen circumstances. Big Lizzie, Little Jadelis

With the support of our team, our matches remained connected. Bigs and Littles deepened their bonds with one another through virtual outings and online engagements. Our Workplace Mentoring Group and corporate partners pivoted to online programming that ensured high school Littles continued planning for post-secondary pathways. Our College and Career Success initiative deepened its support services to promote college persistence. BBBS of NYC moved forward as a collective community, guided by our true north: Put Youth First. That is why the call to action to connect young people to mentors is that much more urgent and important. Our youth need strong mentors and even stronger networks to continue on the path towards achieving their goals. We know the reality of this present moment will continue to shape the lives of our Littles. The impacts of COVID-19, the movement for racial justice and the thousands of educational hours lost make it that much more challenging for our youth to navigate the coming weeks, months, and years ahead. New York City is forever changed and so too will be our next generations of leaders. We are divided by both social distancing and inequitable systems. Mentoring and the connection between our matches breaks down those divides and moves us closer together, even in times when we remain physically apart.

Big Aisha, Little Maya

The pages of our Annual Report highlight the critical importance of our continued investment in youth through mentoring and the essential role BBBS of NYC plays in our City’s future. Mentoring never stops because it is malleable, it meets the moment, and it is rooted in the hope for our collective biggest possible future. We invite you to join us in shaping that future, one where all youth achieve their full potential.

In partnership,

Invest in Learning & Innovation

Alicia D. Guevara, CEO

Lucy M. Lopez, Board President

We went on our outings every two Saturdays prior to COVID-19 and then suddenly we stopped seeing each other. This has been very hard for both of us. The good thing is that we try to stay in touch lately even if it’s on the phone or on FaceTime. Little Andres

Become a Big

Big Tre, Little Amari

We serve youth in all five boroughs with the help of our Bigs. Bigs volunteer eight hours per month to share impactful experiences with their Littles that bring them one step closer to achieving their S.M.A.R.T. goals.

Become a Corporate Partner Bring the power of mentoring to your office through BBBS of NYC’s Workplace Mentoring Program.

Donate By donating, you are investing in our matches, providing academic support, comprehensive screenings for potential Bigs, and continuing our volunteer and recruitment efforts to bring more mentors to NYC youth.

We got creative and stayed connected via FaceTime, calls, and texts this year. We made a music box out of a kit together through FaceTime, built a robot from a STEM kit, and read books such as Wish, The Fourteenth Goldfish and more, all through virtual means. Big Angel
