FISSURE Location:

The Interchange building, Camden Town, London.

Purpose of design:

Providing residential flats as part of one of the fastest growing neighbourhoods: the heart of Camden Town, while finding a method of connection to its public realm.

Fissure is a term used in architecture to describe a crack through a building, which in this ca Locks Interchange Building. Through this method, the building has opened itself up to flood crossing and public access through the building.

The new fabric of the building consists of self supporting pre-cast concrete as its new structu of protection to the original structure of the Interchange building, protecting its original colu fabric acts as a shell and support for the old fabric. Normally with building like these the faca within the building. However with this design I have done the opposite where the alteration of the building.

This elevation shows the cross face of the building. The facade of building is a concrete based forth in a random manner creating a mysterious feel to it, while the rest of the building s pre ing the new and old structure.

The floor plan to the right is Level -1 (The Basement) of the Fissure building which has now merged with the Camden Market to NorthEast of the building. This level contains 18 programs, including: Shops, Bars and Restaurants... These programs are public based, creating the notion of the Camden Market flourishing through the Fissure Building. Various point of access is available for the public with disability and others to access the new market Fissuring through the building from North, East, South and west.
