Underriner Motors 2015 Buick Enclave The 2015 Enclave continues to bring new customers to the Buick brand for its outstanding design, performance and safety features. For the 2015 model year, Enclave offers a new heated wood steering wheel. It is standard on Leather and Premium models -- and adds another luxurious detail to the inviting interior. The Enclave’s exterior and interior color palettes have also been refined for 2015. A new Dark Plum interior color is available, as well as four new exterior colors: Crimson Red Tintcoat, Dark Sapphire Blue Metallic, Dark Chocolate Metallic and Midnight Amethyst Metallic. The Enclave is instantly recognizable as a modern Buick, with sculpted styling and signature elements
such as a black-chrome waterfall grille complemented by technologically advanced features, including signature wing-shape LED lighting. Monochromatic paint schemes accented with chrome contribute to the luxury crossover’s premium appearance, along with large 18-, 19- and 20-inch wheel designs. The 2015 Enclave’s interior is defined by luxurious amenities and high-quality materials, along with the intuitive technology of Buick IntelliLink. Buick’s signature QuietTuning engineering process, which uses laminated glass and extensive sound blocking and absorbing materials, makes Enclave’s cabin quieter than a Lexus RX350.
Enclave is driven by a 3.6L V-6 engine featuring fuel-saving direct injection technology and continuously variable valve timing, and matched with a six-speed automatic transmission. Direct injection helps the engine produce power comparable to a V-8 -- 288 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque -- with good efficiency. The strong V-6 engine also enables Enclave to tow up to 4,500 pounds.
tion and, for the first time on CR-V, Honda’s new 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio telematics interface. Display Audio, standard on EX and above trim levels, allows the user to tap, pinch, and swipe -- just like on a smart phone or tablet -- to control audio and other telematics features. The new Earth Dreams Technology 2.4-liter direct-injected DOHC i-VTEC inline 4-cylinder engine produces 181 lb-ft of torque, an 11-percent increase over the previous engine’s 163 lb-ft while making the same 185 horsepower. The new lighter-weight engine is mated to a new CVT with G-design Shift that contributes to increased EPA fuel economy ratings of 27/34/29 mpg (city/highway/combined) for FWD models.
The CR-V uses front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension systems that benefit from tuning changes. The rear multi-link system helps maximize rear seating and cargo space while providing stable and comfortable handling and ride quality. Newly revised shock absorber tuning helps deliver a refined driving feel.
are placed on the center stack, which is angled toward the driver to make the controls easier to reach. Hyundai’s core interior design principles are safety, intuitiveness and simplicity and Sonata delivers in spades. Hyundai continues its all four-cylinder engine lineup for the 2015 Sonata. A revised 2.4-liter Theta II GDI four-cylinder engine powers SE, Limited and Sport models. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder produces 185 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. A revised 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged GDI powers Sport 2.0T models. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is optimized for lower-RPM drivability and it produces 245 horsepower and 260 lb. ft. of torque.
Smart trunk gives drivers a convenient hands-free way to open the trunk while keeping both feet firmly planted on the ground. The trunk will automatically open, making it easy to place groceries or luggage inside when hands are full. 2015 Sonatas come standard with iPod/USB and auxiliary input jacks, SiriusXM satellite radio and Bluetooth phone connectivity with phonebook transfer and voice-recognition.
The mechanically linked supercharger starts to function immediately at low revs while the turbocharger kicks in when airflow builds up. This combination provides seamless power delivery that feel like a larger, naturally aspirated engine with the benefits of greater fuel efficiency and reduced weight. An all-new standard eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission contributes to the increased efficiency of this new engine family. Quiet, smooth shifts help to reduce noise at higher speeds while additional gears allow these engines to operate at peak efficiency for optimal performance and maximum efficiency. The third component of Drive-E is new ECO+ fuel-saving technology designed to optimize shift points, engine control
and throttle response. When activated by the driver, ECO+ can improve fuel economy by five percent depending on driving style, temperature and climate. Scandinavian design is exemplified by beautiful, simple shapes and surfaces with any unnecessary clutter removed. This is evident in the exterior and interior of the S60. Inside, the attention to detail, the authentic materials, such as wood and leather, and the easy to use controls contributes to the in-command driving experience.

Things to consider before buying your next car Metro Services Buyers often find the process of finding a new car fun. Test driving vehicles and playing with all of the gadgets that today’s increasingly tech-heavy vehicles have to offer can be akin to kids visiting a candy store and being given carte blanche to fill up their baskets. But as enjoyable as finding a new car can be, the financial commitment that such a purchase requires can make the process somewhat nerve-wracking as well. Buyers often assign the most risk to pre-owned vehicles, and rightfully so. But some buyers even regret their purchases after buying a new car, whether the car does not suit their lifestyle as much as they had hoped or the vehicle simply isn’t living up to the expectations drivers had for it at the time of purchase. Savvy buyers will consider the following factors before taking the keys to their next new cars.
of various makes and models, while various message boards exist to allow drivers to review the performance of their vehicles. Such resources are invaluable and can paint a realistic picture of what it might be like to own and drive a particular automobile.
Resale value While selling a car you don’t even own yet is probably not foremost on your mind, it is important to consider a car’s potential resale value before buying it. The high costs of new vehicles has pushed many buyers out of the new car market, making pre-owned vehicles a more affordable and attractive option. So considering a car’s potential resale value
before buying it new is a smart move that can pay dividends down the road when you’re back on the market for a new vehicle. Kelley Blue Book (kbb.com) is a valuable resource to gauge the resale value of vehicles, and buyers can even calculate the resale value of a car over its first five years. This can help consumers determine which options to get on their new cars and even help to govern their driving habits in an effort to keep the vehicle’s resale value as high as possible. When buying a new vehicle, it can be tempting to buy the most visually stunning or gadget-heavy vehicle on the dealership lot. But buyers should consider more than just appearance and accessories before buying their next new car.

Many new car shoppers plan to finance or lease their vehicles, but the down payment and monthly payment is not the only number buyers must confirm before buying a vehicle. After the purchase price and monthly payments have been figured out, the two most significant costs buyers must consider are insurance and gas. Some vehicles cost more to insure than others, and the cost of a policy will depend on more than just a buyer’s personal driving history. The vehicle’s safety features, where a driver lives and the type of vehicle, both its make and model and the category it fits into (i.e., sports car, luxury vehicle, etc.), are all going to be used to determine the cost of an insurance policy. Buyers also must consider how much a vehicle will cost to fuel up before making a final decision. Many a driver has grinned when driving a brand new SUV off a dealership lot, only to frown on that first trip to the filling station. Insurance companies typically provide free estimates to prospective customers, so do your homework on the different makes and models you’re considering, getting an insurance quote for each vehicle. In addition, consider the expected fuel costs of each vehicle before making a decision.
Reputation Thanks to the Internet, today’s vehicle buyers have a valuable tool at their disposal that those of yesteryear rarely had: their fellow drivers. When considering certain makes and models, go online to see what fellow drivers and professional reviewers have to say about a given vehicle. Sites like Edmunds.com and SafPhotodisc ecar.gov offer professional assessments Prospective buyers should consider a host of factors before purchasing a new vehicle.
Navigate vehicles safely with GPS Metro Services Upon their arrival on the automotive marketplace, global positioning systems, or GPS, quickly became a phenomenon. Even today, years after that introduction, GPS devices are still relied on by millions of people to help them navigate the country’s roadways. Many others rely on the GPS of their mobile phones, employing such capabilities in concert with digital maps while driving. Although they can help a person with directions or make it easier to find the nearest fuel station or rest stop, GPS systems are not foolproof. Plus, when used improperly, they may increase the risk for accidents by drawing drivers’ attention away from the road. According to Corvallis Micromorphologic, Inc., GPS work with a group of satellites that communicate with GPS devices to pinpoint a car’s location. They can do so up to 164 to 328 feet of your location. Afterwards, your position on the planet is overlaid with a digital map and navigation information stored within the GPS receiver. The GPS can then provide directions and suggest routes based on certain parameters. GPS has virtually eliminated the need for paper maps to get from point A to point B. Many people argue that GPS has made it safer to drive because drivers and passengers no longer need to fiddle with maps should they get lost. What’s more, GPS devices decrease the chances of getting lost and becoming distracted by surroundings when looking to get back on course. For those unfamiliar with the roadways or surroundings, navigation systems can alert drivers to which lane to be in and upcoming turns or obstacles. However, GPS devices are fallible. Trusting in them too completely can lead to consequences. The following are safe ways to use navigating devices.
Select a hands-free device
Pre-program the device
Use common sense
Don’t program the GPS while moving. Enter the destination prior to departing. For those drivers who need to make changes or more fully examine the directions, pull over to a safe area to do so.
When buying a device, select a GPS navigation system that is hands-free. This can be a unit that mounts on the windshield or is built into a car’s dashboard. Avoid holding a mobile phone to look down at a map. Drivers who do so can take their eyes off the road long enough to cause an accident.
Learn the terminology Each GPS unit is different and may have different lingo for particular instructions. Very often a device may instruct drivers to “keep left” when it simply means to stay straight on course. This can confuse motorists who may think they need to get into a left lane. Take the GPS for a trial run in a familiar area to learn its particular quirks.
Avoid distractions The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety found GPS use can, in certain instances, increase distractions while driving. NETS found when GPS users muted their devices instead of listening to voice commands, they spent more time looking at the screen than at the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates driver distraction plays a role in up to 30 percent of car crashes in the United States each year. GPS systems can be yet another distraction. Avoid staring at the screen by looking ahead at the directions mapped out by the device to have an idea of what’s coming next. This should be done before embarking. Drivers should limit looking at the GPS screen to passing glances, just as they would any component of the car. Have a passenger assist as the navigator. Not all directions are accurate and they may change based on road conditions or new traffic patterns. Drivers should not follow GPS directions at the cost of ignoring common sense and road signage. Also, the rules of the road should always take precedence over what the GPS is telling the driver to do. GPS devices have made getting around easier. Using them in a safe manner can reduce distractions and help drivers reach their destinations.

Bob Smith Ford 2015 Ford Super Duty The 2015 Super Duty achieves best-in-class towing performance with a second-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel engine that has been further developed to provide more power, torque and efficiency. Ford’s second-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel now boasts 440 horsepower, up from 400 horsepower, and 860 lb.-ft. of torque, up from 800 lb.ft., across all Super Duty models from F-250 to F-450. The 2015 F-450 tops the F-Series Super Duty pickup truck lineup with maximum fifth-wheel/gooseneck towing capacity increasing to a class-leading 31,200 pounds, a gain of 6,500 pounds. The truck’s gross combined weight rating increases to a class-leading 40,000 pounds, a gain of 7,000 pounds.
The F-350 increases maximum fifth-wheel/gooseneck towing capacity as well, to 26,700 pounds, from 23,200 pounds, and the gross combined weight rating goes up 4,500 pounds, to 35,000 pounds. The improved ratings are a result of designing and engineering the truck as an integrated system. This approach has enabled Ford engineers to optimize performance across the full Super Duty lineup. F-350 Super Duty is available with a high-capacity towing package that includes new front springs and a wide track axle, increasing the gross combined weight rating with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine from 31,900 pounds to 35,000 pounds.
Improvements to F-450 that allow it to handle the increased tow rating include commercial-grade 19.5-inch wheels and tires, upgraded rear U-joints and suspension components with new leaf springs, front and rear stabilizer bars and shocks. The steering system has stronger gears and linkages and the fifth-wheel/ gooseneck has increased towing capacity.
Ford Escape’s EcoBoost engines come standard with specially calibrated six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmissions that can provide a more hands-on experience via manual gear selection control. The EcoBoost engine torque is specially engineered to provide a fluid shifting experience and enhanced fuel economy. The available intelligent all-wheel-drive system uses software and sensors to analyze data from 25 external signals including wheel speed, accelerator pedal position and steering wheel angle, gauging road conditions and driver input. Customers can also select the 2.0-liter EcoBoost or the 2.5-liter iVCT I-4. An available chrome appearance package includes elegant accents like chrome door handles, liftgate applique skull caps, roof rails, rear license plate applique and chrome trim on the front fascia grilles; 19-inch wheels; and leather-accented seats. Sporty and modern, Trax blends small-car agility with the utility of an SUV, including up to 48.4 cubic feet of cargo space. Trax accommodates customers’ increasingly connected lifestyles with available OnStar 4G LTE and built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, as well as MyLink technology with a 7-inch color touchscreen. With its signature dual-port grille, prominent bowtie emblem and swept headlamps, the Trax is immediately identifiable as a contemporary Chevrolet. Available cues such as front fog lamps and simulated front and rear
skid plates lend a sportier presence, while vertical tail lamps flank the tailgate, accenting taught body lines and pronounced wheel arches that give the Trax a confident stance. Inside, Trax’s distinctive styling carries over to a dual-cockpit instrument panel. The instrument cluster is inspired by the bold design in the Sonic, featuring a large, performance-style analog tachometer combined with a prominent digital display for the speedometer and other readouts. A small-diameter, thick-rimmed steering wheel enhances the sporty ambience. For versatility, the 60/40 flat-folding rear seat features a fold-down armrest with cupholders, storage
in all four doors, four bins in the dash, pockets in the seatbacks and bins under the rear load floor and a hidden storage drawer under the front passenger seat. Trax is powered by a power-dense Ecotec 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine backed by an efficiency-enhancing six-speed automatic transmission. The 2015 Colorado’s configurations are an extended cab model with a 6-foot bed, a crew cab with a 5-foot bed and a crew cab with a 6-foot bed. With the tailgate down, the 6-foot bed allows hauling of 8-foot-long items. Colorado comes in WT, LT and Z71 trims, all in 2WD or 4WD. The off-road-inspired Z71 is the brawniest of the bunch. It also features a gunmetal grille surround -- a change from the chrome standard on the other models -- projector headlamps and unique 17-inch aluminum wheels. To help keep overall mass down and improve the front-to-rear weight balance, the 2015 Colorado features a segment-first aluminum hood. It also features active aero grille shutters, which close at certain highway speeds to enhance aerodynamics.
Colorado cabin designers paid attention to detail and premium appointments, including a sculpted headliner that enhances headroom, halo lighting on key controls for easier view and an open area at the front of the center console for easier phone charging.
The new front end is designed to deliver more efficient airflow to the cooling system and engine air intake, helping maintain power when towing under adverse conditions. The cabs feature inlaid doors, fitting snugly into recesses in the body sides for reduced turbulence and wind rush. Combined with new triple door seals, the doors help create a quieter interior. The sturdy chassis and heavy-duty suspensions contribute to greater payload and towing capabilities: maximum payload is 7,374 pounds; maximum towing is at 19,600 pounds. The standard engine is a 6.0L FlexFuel V-8, which is rated at 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque -- and tuned to deliver excellent low-rpm torque. It’s matched
with a six-speed automatic transmission. A bi-fuel version of the 6.0L V-8 is now offered on 2500 and 3500 models in all three cab styles. The system enables customers to switch easily between gasoline and compressed natural gas. Topics to discuss before hiring your next mechanic Metro Services Few decisions weigh as heavily on automobile owners as their choice of mechanic. A good mechanic goes a long way toward ensuring drivers and their passengers stay safe on the road and that those drivers’ vehicles perform at their peak for years to come. That’s an important role to play, and it’s why many drivers acknowledge that choosing a mechanic is a decision that should not be taken lightly. Rest assured you don’t need to be a car guy or gal to find a trustworthy and talented mechanic. You might just need to open a dialogue with a prospective mechanic, discussing a handful of topics that can help you feel more comfortable and know you have made the right choice in automotive service provider once a final decision has been made.
Certification Certification can go a long way toward helping drivers find mechanics they can trust. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence was founded in 1972 and continues to work to improve the quality of automotive service and repair by testing automotive technicians and certifying those who live up to or exceed ASE standards. An ASE-certified technician should have his or her credentials readily available to prospective customers, and these credentials list each professional’s area of certification. When shopping for a new mechanic, make sure that he or she is ASE-certified. In addition, discuss with the mechanic his or her work history, including any additional areas of expertise.
Pricing policies Many mechanics offer free estimates, but that should not be taken for granted. When bringing a car in for an estimate,
drivers should confirm with the mechanic who will conduct the examination if the estimate is free or if they will be charged an inspection fee. In addition to any fees regarding estimates, drivers should also inquire about labor costs and the payment policies at the facility. Labor can be quite expensive, so it’s best that you know these rates in advance of any repairs being conducted on your vehicle. It’s also important to get a rundown of the company payment policies, especially if your vehicle is in need of potentially costly repairs. You don’t want the bill to shock you once the work has been completed, so don’t hesitate to be inquisitive before leaving a car at the garage.
Parts Replacing parts on a vehicle is a cause for concern for many drivers, and rightfully so. Consumer advocacy groups have exposed many mechanics that pass off used auto parts as new parts, charging their customers new part prices along the way. While there’s no way drivers can guarantee they won’t fall victim to such criminal behavior, they can inquire about company policies regarding vehicle parts. Does the garage even install used parts? If so, do they let drivers choose either new or used parts before any work is done? If the garage only uses new parts, ask for parts with solid warranties, so if the part must be replaced, you won’t have to pay for it again.
Documentation The pre-owned vehicle market is thriving, and drivers who take care of their vehicles have earned the right to reap their rewards for being good owners when it comes time to sell the car. When interviewing prospective mechanics, ask if they are willing to provide detailed documentation of any work they do on your vehicle. Such documentation can then be shared with prospective buyers when you want to sell the car, and it also serves as a way to keep the garage accountable for all the work they have done on the car throughout your relationship.
Metro Services
Don’t hesitate to ask questions when choosing an automotive service provider.
Winter prep checklist Metro Services Fall is a time to prepare homes, vehicles and even our psyches for the arrival of winter. To get your car cold-weather ready, check and repair these items now. • •
• •
Tire pressure can drop in cold weather. When tires are underinflated, you lose fuel efficiency, so monitor and maintain tire pressure throughout the winter. Those who live in particularly cold climates should switch from allseason to winter tires. Much as you wear winter boots to provide more traction and protection than sneakers, so should you equip your vehicle with tires that will stand up to winter terrain. Check on the status of your battery and its starting power. Cold weather can put more strain on a car battery. A battery that is already weak may not turn over when you need it most. Replace worn wiper blades and upgrade to a windshield fluid that is rated for subzero temperatures. Each of these items will improve visibility when winter precipitation is making its presence felt.
• • •
•
Schedule an oil change at the beginning of winter. Dirty oil can hinder cold-weather starts and, if coupled with low coolant levels, can make it difficult for the engine to turn over. Keep jumper cables, a battery booster pack and warning cones in your vehicle. These can come to the rescue if your battery dies and you’re stranded on the side of the road. While you’re stocking the trunk or cargo bed, include a shovel, sand or cat litter, a flashlight, an ice scraper, water, and a blanket. These are good emergency items to have in the event your car breaks down in the winter. You can dig your tires out of a snow drift with the shovel and apply litter to increase traction. The blanket will come in handy if you have to sit in a cold car for a while awaiting roadside service. Consider taking a winter driving course. Icy, snowy conditions completely change the defensive tactics needed to navigate the roads. A prepared driver is one who is more likely to avoid accidents and make it home safely. 2015

Tire maintenance an important safety precaution Metro Services Tires are the link between a vehicle and the roadway, and tire quality has a direct impact on the performance and safety of an automobile. But tire maintenance is easy to overlook. However, ignoring tire maintenance can threaten driver and passenger safety and make a vehicle operate inefficiently. Steering, breaking ability and traction are all governed by good tires. Worn tread can result in longer stopping times and make it difficult to brake immediately in an emergency situation. Although driving tends to be the primary culprit behind worn down tires, sometimes bald or unevenly worn out tread is indicative of a larger problem, su h as a misaligned wheelbase, improperly aligned tires or tires that are underinflated. The following are some common problems associated with tires and how to address these issues should they arise.
Getting caught on the side of the road with a tire blowout can be a hassle, so routinely check tire treads and replace tires accordingly.
Tread depth Average new tires on cars usually start with 10/32 inch to 11/32 inch of original tread depth. When tread reaches a depth of 2/32 inch, they are considered worn out. There are different ways to gauge tread depth. Insert a penny into the tread groove with Lincoln’s head upside down and facing you. If you can see all of Lincoln’s head, it is time to replace the tires. Another coin test is to insert a quarter into the groove. If the tread touches Washington’s head, you have at least 4/32 inch of tread left. Don’t have any currency on hand? Then look at the treadwear indicator bar molded into the tires. When these bars become flush with the adjacent ribs of the tire, the tires should be replaced.
Alignment
Blowouts Worn tire treads increase the risk of punctures, which can lead to blowouts. Bald tires also may blowout as a result of friction on roadways that is met with minimal rubber.
According to the Rubber Manufacturers Association, improper alignment causes rapid or uneven treadwear. Tires should be aligned and balanced periodically to avoid irregular wear and having to replace tires prematurely.
Montana
Tread pattern Tires feature different tread patterns depending on the brand of tire. They may be directional, asymmetrical, non-directional, and directional/asymmetrical. When purchasing replacement tires, it is advisable to match the tread pattern to the existing tires. This helps enhance the performance of the car. In fact, some newer cars require tread to match. Mismatched treads may cause problems with transmission shifting or impact control and steadiness.
Tire pressure Underinflation of tires can cause failure, stress and irregular wear. Underinflated tires also may contribute to loss of control that leads to accidents. Always maintain the manufacturer’s recommendations for the correct pressure, which should be adjusted based on the temperature. Tires should undergo the same inspection and maintenance as other parts of the vehicle. Tires are a vital component to safe driving, and routine maintenance can prevent accidents and other problems.

Drowsy driving can be as dangerous as driving impaired Metro Services The public is well educated about the dangers of driving while impaired by medication, alcohol or illegal drugs. But drivers may not be aware that driving while tired can be just as dangerous. Driving when tired can be a fatal mistake. Just as alcohol or drugs can slow down reaction time, impair judgment and increase the risk of accident, so, too, can being tired behind the wheel. Drowsy driving is reportedly what caused the fatal crash in June 2014 between a limousine and a Walmart truck that ended the life of comic James McNair and seriously injured fellow comedian Tracy Morgan. The driver, Kevin Roper, was going 20 miles over the speed limit and was almost at his drive time limit, according to preliminary reports by the National Transportation Safety Board. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 100,000 car crashes in the United States each year occur as the result of an overly tired driver. Various studies demonstrate that drivers who have remained awake for 18 hours prior to driving mimic the driving performance of intoxicated motorists. In fact, drowsy driving can be confused with driving with high blood alcohol content. Sleepiness can arise relatively quickly, and according to Thomas Balkin, PhD, director of the behavioral biology program at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and a leading expert on sleep and fatigue, it’s difficult for drivers to assess just how sleepy they are.
“Sleepiness affects the part of the brain responsible for judgment and self-awareness,” he says. “When you’ve reached the stage where you are fighting sleep, the effect of any method of reviving yourself can be very short-lived. Furthermore, people do not have to be in a deep sleep to actually be asleep behind the wheel. Micro-sleeps occur when certain brain cells temporarily shut down for a few seconds. A person is not completely asleep but in a sort of fog as if they are asleep. When sleepiness sets in, the best course of action is to pull off the road. Opening the window, turning on the radio or blasting cold air is, at best, only a temporary solution. If driving with passengers and feelings of sleepiness appear, hand the keys over to a passenger and have them take over driving, if possible. Otherwise, a short nap and a cup of coffee can be used in combination to increase alertness. It’s also a good idea to avoid beginning a long road trip in mid-afternoon around the hours of two or three o’clock. While alertness generally dips in the evening hours, due to the circadian rhythm, alertness also dips in the late afternoon, prompting drowsiness. A 2010 study by the American Automobile Association Foundation for Traffic Safety found that as many drivers reported falling asleep at the wheel in the afternoon hours as reported falling asleep late at night. Driving in a warm, quiet car also may spur drowsiness, as would driving after a heavy meal.

Driving while tired may not seem as harmful as driving while under the influence of alcohol. However, both can affect reaction times similarly.
Driving tired is just as dangerous as other impaired driving. Slow reaction times and unawareness of surroundings can contribute to accidents that are otherwise avoidable.
Common misconceptions about fuel efficiency Metro Services Fuel efficiency is an important issue for car buyers, and understandably so. Conserving fuel is good for drivers’ budgets and the planet, so the concept of fuel efficiency would seem to benefit everyone.
transmissions have evolved over the years, and they are now more adept at controlling revs and conserving fuel than many drivers of manual transmission vehicles.
When you fill up matters
Some drivers have long believed that filling up during the But just because fuel efficiency is a good concept does not mean there are not misconceptions about it among drivers and cooler hours of the day earns them more gas than filling up when the temperatures are at their peak. This theory traces automotive professionals alike. The following are some of the its origins to the fact that liquids are at their most dense more widely held misconceptions about fuel efficiency. when they are cool. However, automatic
Shifting into neutral while stopping saves gas This is another misconception that was once true but no longer applies thanks to advances in technology. When engines still had carburetors, shifting into neutral might have helped conserve fuel by stopping the flow of gas into the engine while the car was idling. However, fuel injection systems are now computerized and capable of sensing when an engine is revving above idle. This shuts off the fuel injectors, preventing gas from being injected into the engine and preventing gas from being wasted while the vehicle is stopped as a result. Taking steps to conserve fuel is a good way for drivers to save money and benefit the environment. However, some of the conventional means to conserving fuel are no longer viable.
