FOUR GENERATIONS OF BEAUTIFYING Acme Salon & Spa 320 N. 30th St. A

This downtown location has a history of being in the beautifying business. Before owner Julie Mehling opened Acme Salon & Spa a quarter-century ago, it was Acme Beauty College. Before that, it was a salon under a different name in the fifties and sixties. “It’s a fourth-generation salon,” Mehling said. “My great aunt, dad, daughter and I have all done hair.” Mehling’s daughter, Stephanee Mehling Hartford, puts a fun twist – literally – on hair, specializing in braiding, corn rows and extensions. Clients often comment on the salon’s “cute” interior, said Mehling. “It’s a really friendly atmosphere,” she said. “Clients all become our friends.” In operation: About 25 years ‘Do: Cuts for everyone; color; formal updos; extensions; perms; braiding; shampoo and style Extras: Makeup; waxing; spray tan; ear piercing; tooth jewels; nails Known for: Color, formal updos and extensions Perk: Clients become friends Open: 10  a.m. to 5  p.m., Tuesday through Friday; other availability by appointment Scheduling: Walk-ins welcome

Add color to your plate with BIN 119’s honey-roasted pork belly tapas. Topped with honey sauce and served over parmesan asiago polenta, this dish is best served with a drink of your choice for a downtown fine dining experience.

Stay caffeinated this fall with Mazevo Coffee’s fresh korban espresso, a blend of beans roasted daily in downtown Billings. This espresso con panna is Italian for espresso with cream, but it really translates to deliciousness. Top it off with your choice of cinnamon powder, cocoa powder, chocolate or caramel drizzle.

Treat your sweet tooth with one of Log Cabin Bakery’s Montana made rolls fresh from the oven. Layers of cinnamon and brown sugar beneath a pecan and caramel shell are sure to excite taste buds. Sweeten the deal with a cup of steaming coffee.

The pork chop sandwich is Pug Mahon’s specialty. Served with the luck of the Irish, every bite gets you a little bit closer to that pot of gold. Come for the cuisine, but stay for the creature cocktails.

Meat and potatoes take on new meaning with Commons 1882’s boneless beef short rib. Served with mashed potatoes, green beans and beef jus, this classic Montana dish is great for the gluten sensitive. Add a glass of vino, draft beer or a specialty cocktail for a refreshing finishing touch.

New on the menu is Stella’s ¡Cheeseburger Olé! Open-faced and served with house-made chili Verde sauce, this burger comes with your choice of side, so come hungry and enjoy the view (road construction is finished).

The fun starts at 3:30 p.m., Courtesy Photo where a choir of 100 local volunteers sing their hearts out. For more information, contact Bergeson at (406) 237-3638 or heather.bergeson@sclhs.net.

Co-chaired by Jessica Scheer and Jackie Owen, the Sept. 15 event at ZooMontana features a dinner, art auction and wine-tasting. Starting at 5:30 p.m., sip on vino varieties from Merry Cellars Winery while bidding on silent auction items. Then, participate in the live auction with works from signature artist Carol Spielman and others as you dine on a delicious four-course meal. This event relies on the generosity of local businesses and contributions from the Billings community. A third of the proceeds go to the nonprofits’ annual operating budget. For details on tickets or table sponsoring, visit the Corks & Canvas Facebook page or contact Jessica Scheer at (205) 260-5554.
