Forsyth, the City of Trees, is located in a valley along the banks of the Yellowstone River. The community of about 1,900 residents is diverse in job opportunities, activities, services, and attractions. Economic benefits come from tourism, agriculture, railroad, coal mining, and various small businesses. Forsyth residents share a vision to be a vibrant, well-kept community that supports family values, fulfills economic, educational, and social needs, and pro-
vides a “hometown” quality of life. The town also has great schools, a library, hospital and nursing home, social and medical services, assisted living, River View Villa retirement living community, parks, and all essential services to complement our great location along the Yellowstone River and I-94. The Forsyth area is rich in attractions and recreational opportunities. Activities include hunting, golfing, fishing, camping, boating, hiking, and
swimming. Other attractions include a museum, historic walking tour, County Fair, Shakespeare in the Park, and 4th of July fireworks. Plan to include Forsyth in your vacation plans, or better yet, consider moving there for employment or business opportunities, or try retirement living and enjoy the view from River View Villa. Forsyth Duck Days As summer begins to wind down, it’s time for the annual Yellowstone River Duck Festival, known locally as “Duck Days.” This event takes place on Saturday, August 19 and combines a parade, sidewalk sales, a car show, motorcycle rally, and various other events. It’s topped off with a rubber duck race on the Yellowstone River — adopt your duck at many Forsyth businesses for $10 during the months of July and August, and then root for your duck to float across the finish line first. If your duck is among the fastest, you can win a grand prize of up to $1,000. Various smaller prizes are awarded to runner-up ducks too. The funds will be used to support Chamber activities throughout the year. Race results will be posted at First State Bank and all bars prior to the street dance. After the race, it’s time to head to downtown Forsyth for the parade at 12 p.m. Following the parade will be bed races and a car show on Main Street. From 2 to 5 p.m., the Chamber will host Bingo, bag toss, and a free BBQ following bed races in the First Interstate Bank parking lot. Get your dancing shoes on and attend the street dance downtown at 8 p.m. featuring live music, great food, beer gardens and plenty of old-fashioned fun. Bring the whole family to the event and enjoy a great day of chamber sponsored fun. For more information, e-mail the COURTESY PHOTO Chamber at forsythchamber@rangeweb. Participants will vie for cash prizes during the annual Duck Days event on Saturday, August 19. net or call 406-347-5656.

Oktoberfest
This autumn event for the Chamber was a great success in 2016 and surpassed everyone’s expectations. Join us at Marcey’s Park on Saturday, October 7 at 1 p.m. for polka music, brats, German games and a costume contest. Craft beers will also be featured from local breweries.
In July, the area’s biggest event, the Rosebud-Treasure County Fair, takes center stage. Big-name entertainment, a free stage, 4-H and open class exhibits, and a first-class carnival combine to make a great time for all. Of course there’s plenty of “fair food” available, and we also have one of the few fairs that has free gate admission, and to top it off, there’s no charge for parking!

The Custer Circle Tourism Project intends to place 17 historically accurate signs primarily in Rosebud County. The signs will document the movement of General Custer and the 7th Calvary through southeast Montana. Tourism is one of the largest industries in the state of Montana. There is a need to take advantage of the history in our area, to help the economy by bringing in tourist money. The project will bring tourist traffic to Rosebud, Forsyth, Colstrip, Lame Deer and Hysham and will also be a great attraction for COURTESY PHOTO all residents of the area that are inter- Captain Clifford’s Boats Marker West ested in the history Rosebud Fishing Access of our county. It will create an excellent educational opportunity for elementary and secondary school students in Ashland, Colstrip, Forsyth, Hysham, Lame Deer and Rosebud. Four presentations have been made to the Visit Southeast Montana Tourism Board of Directors, and there has been unanimous support of the project. If the Custer Circle Tourism Project is successful, it will be expanded to the Miles City, Terry, and Glendive areas. The board has made a verbal commitment to promote the project via its website, Facebook page and appropriate literature. The Forsyth Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, City of Forsyth, Rosebud County, Montana Department of Transportation and Little Bighorn Battlefield are supportive of the project as well.

George Pitman Display
Montana’s tradition of rodeo continues to be on display this season with a recent loan to the museum from the daughters of George Pitman, an allround cowboy from Lame Deer. On display are two fringe jackets worn by George and Ann Pitman along with two saddles used during George Pitman’s rodeo career in the 1930s. George Pitman performed at rodeos throughout the west during the 1920s-30s. George was also a trick rider performing such stunts such as headstands and demonstrating roping skills with a lasso.
