Rosebud-Treasure County Fair returns to Forsyth July 18-21 Courtesy of Rosebud County Fair Board There’s something for everyone at the RosebudTreasure County Fair! Here’s a rundown of what you will find at the fair. A lot of time was spent looking for a great entertainer to fill the stage on Thursday night, and here is the winner: Johnny Lee, classic country artist with hits like “Lookin’ For Love (in All The Wrong Places,)” “Cherokee Fiddle” and over a dozen more. Johnny was in Forsyth two years ago playing golf in the Rosebud Health Care Center golf classic, but this will be his first time performing here. Showtime will be at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the fair office or online at rosebudcountyfair.com. This concert is sponsored by Blue Diamond Petroleum of Culbertson. On Friday plan to attend the 3rd annual Ranch Rodeo. Come and watch local talent compete against contestants from around the region in events such as wild cow milking, team doctoring, bronc riding and much more. The action can be unpredictable, competitive and often hilarious. It all begins at 7 p.m. on Friday in the grandstand. Tickets are available at the fair office or online at rosebudcountyfair. com. On Saturday night, country music returns to the Fair stage at 8 p.m. with a great concert. This year you will see two great performers for the price of one; John Anderson and Jamie O’Neal will each rock your world with their combined total of more than 20 top 40 country singles. Tickets for various areas of the grandstand and bleachers range from $25 down to $15 to make the night show more affordable than ever. Prices are higher on the day of the show so get your tickets early! Tickets are available at the fair office or online at rosebudcountyfair. com. Grandstand entertainment for Sunday will be the Rosebud County Bump-nRun, sponsored by the local Bump-n-Run Association and the American Legion Post 39 of Forsyth. The event will start at 2 p.m. in the grandstand. This will be the first Bump-n-Run to be

held during the fair, so we’re hoping for a big crowd and lots of fast action. You can buy tickets at the gate, at the fair office in advance, or online at rosebudcountyfair. com. As always, the Free Stage offers a great lineup of entertainment. Thanks to generous donations, a group of sponsored picnic tables will be placed in the tent so you can grab a meal, head over to the tent and enjoy your food while watching the show in the shade. The Free Stage area also makes a great meeting place due to its central location near the carnival and grandstand. For country music lovers, and for the first time at the fair, Montana’s own Charley Jenkins Band will be providing several shows every day on the Free Stage. Charley provides a highenergy, up-tempo show that will make you want to dance! He will also do late evening shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so the party should last well into the night. Charley Jenkins is sponsored by Carquest/Valley Auto of Forsyth. For magic fans, all the way from Canada, Double Vision: Magic with a Twin Twist will bring their ever-growing collection of illusions to the Free Stage. If you’ve never seen this act, you’re in for a treat; Mike and Mitch are identical twin brothers, and their comedy and magical interplay will surprise and delight you. They will also do some strolling magic so be ready for them to pop up anywhere, anytime. Back by popular demand, hypnotist Michael Mezmer returns to the fair after a long absence. Michael’s “Trance-Nosis” show is clean, high-energy, and best of all, fun for audience members and volunteers alike. Michael will do two shows each day of the fair, so get your friends together and get hypnotized. The smaller kids will love Young Guns Wild West Fun Park, a free, supervised play-area just for them. More than a dozen different games and activities will keep the kids busy while the adults tour the exhibition hall, visit with friends, or wander over to the concession area for food and refreshments. The Fun Park will be open 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. each day of the

The Barn with Charm The east wall of the Fire Department building has three large windows to incorporate into the rural scene. Our travels around the country will depict a variety of old structures which would have a story to tell us. The second floor of this building includes a large window that Bob portrays as the haymow opening. Part of the charm that dates the scene is the old buggy parked inside the barn’s open doorway. The log cabin was added to capture depth while continuing the nostalgic theme. The walkin door actually extends to the bottom of the wall and is
usable by the firemen. The road adds good depth as well, and the artist hopes no one actually tries to drive on it. Color always adds to the charm and the variety of flowers and foliage completes this sixth mural in Forsyth. The BRAND WALL, number seven, is not shown as it is an ongoing illustration including livestock brands from the farm and ranch population. The brand inventory is growing fast and has had much attention from our rural friends. You will enjoy this mural along with the others when you stop at Forsyth, Mont. soon.

Forsyth Fire Department Fire trucks have always been a subject of great interest. They must be at the ready, and a great deal of excitement is aroused when they are in use. This fifth mural in Forsyth is located on the south wall of the City’s Fire Department building. Two of the fire trucks are painted on the door openings just as they would be seen if the actual doors were open. The wall and painted roof design illustrates the added 3D effect for depth and allows room for distant hills and trees to add to the panoramic scene. Wall sconces with colorful flowers are painted along the doorways. The functional windows are kept in place as is the entry door. To add interest for the younger of us, a mother Dalmatian dog and her two playful pups lounge on the floor beside the giant red fire truck.Visitors’ kids tend to want to pet the cuties. This mural is located in the second block of north ninth.

Construction of Rosebud Health Care Center clinic ahead of schedule By Cathy Byron of the Rosebud Foundation Just over six months ago, the clinic relocation project adjacent to the hospital wing of Rosebud Health Care Center (RHCC) broke ground. That was October 31, 2012. The target date for completion of both phases 1 and 2 is September 2013. However, the latest projection is that construction of the first phase which includes the clinic and physical therapy will be completed by the end of June, with the clinic opening to patients in the new site in early July. Phase 2 includes remodeling of the existing physical therapy space to accommodate the laundry. That will begin after Physical Therapy moves into its new location. Windows were recently installed, and brick siding was installed on the lower
exterior walls. Inside the structure, insulation was being layered between studs after wiring and plumbing were completed. Soon after, dry wall was going up! The lack of adaptable space in the existing 1920s vintage clinic was the driving force behind the clinic relocation project. Patients are being turned away and appointments deferred due to the shortage of patient exam rooms. Clinic office staff report an increase of patients during the flu season amplified the scheduling frustration. The expectation and projection is an increase in clinic visits once the new facility opens. “That is good for our bottom line,” CEO Ryan Tooke said. In the new clinic, the nurses’ station, procedure room, nine patient exam rooms, physical therapy section, conference room, telemedicine room, offices

for each doctor and physician assistant, and a visiting specialist exam room were all taking shape and drawing ooos and awwws from individuals taking a quick walk-through tour. The new clinic is funded by grants and low-interest, long-term loans. “There are no local tax dollars and no bond issues funding this project,” Tooke emphasized. The estimated cost after cuts were made to some of the initial design features is $2,986,000. Two $400,000 grants were received: one from the Coal Board and one Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Two long-term and lowinterest loans complete the financial package: a Rural Economic Development Loan through Range Telephone for $160,000 and a $1,965,890 USDA loan. The Rosebud Foundation pledged to raise a minimum of $100,000 through a two-year capital campaign dedicated to the clinic relocation project. “The generosity of people has been incredible,” Barb Rolston, Foundation Chairman said. “The pledges and donations as of April 10 are hovering near $80,000.” For every dollar donated to the
capital campaign, the interest saved on the long-term loans is 66¢. A donation of $100 reduces the longterm-debt by $166! First State Bank of Forsyth kick-started the capital campaign with a $10,000 check presented at the October groundbreaking ceremony. “We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support that contribution started,” Rolston said. An anonymous family sent a check for $10,000 in appreciation for the care a loved one received at RHCC. Another local business contributed $10,000. Families have identified the capital campaign as the recipient for memorials for lost loved ones. Several thousand dollars poured in honoring Dixie Kenney, Jerry Eve,Vi Heberle, and Irene Messer. “Those gifts become a living legacy, and will receive recognition on our donor recognition wall which is yet to be designed,” Rolston said. Organizations can contact the Capital Campaign office at (406) 346-4215 to schedule a presentation by Foundation members who will be able to answer questions about the project.
