Honeymoon
TIPS
Maintain honeymoon beauty According to TripSavvy, 99 percent of couples who choose to have traditional weddings take a honeymoon. Around 1.4 million couples in the United States depart for honeymoons around the world each year, spending an average of $4,466 on the trip. Though not nearly as pressure-filled as wedding planning, honeymoons do require some planning to ensure a fun and memorable trip. In a Bridal Guide survey, wedding couples indicated they were most likely to worry about wardrobe, swimsuits, sunglasses, sunscreen, and luggage when getting ready to depart. Couples who want to look their best on their honeymoon and in their honeymoon photos should not forget to pack the following items. Sunscreen: Sunscreen is a must whether you’re traveling to the pink beaches of a tropical island
or the slopes of a ski resort. Choose a product that protects against both UVA and UVB rays, and be sure to reapply every 80 minutes or so, especially after perspiring or swimming. Sunscreen will help prevent damaging and painful sunburns that can adversely affect a trip. Makeup-remover wipes: Even high-end resorts may not provide the correct face bar for removing makeup and refreshing skin. Makeup-removing wipes can offer deep clean-
ing in a few convenient swipes. Hair refresher: Brides who want to get a few extra days out of a wedding day hairstyle should pack a hair refreshing spray to tame static and add UV protectors that keep locks pampered until they’re ready to wash. Dry shampoos also allow for a little refreshing of hair between daytime adventures and evening dinner. Eye cream: There may be a few late nights while you’re enjoying romantic,
candlelit meals or hitting up the hot spots around a resort. Ensure honeymoon photos do not show tired eyes with an eye cream that can reduce puffiness and dark circles. Tinted moisturizer or BB cream: A high-quality tinted moisturizer or BB cream will hydrate skin and add just a sheer wash of color to even out skin tone. Pair with lip balm and a waterproof mascara and your honeymoon face will be ready.

Grandchildren and
Grandchildren and weddings. Who needs billboards, commercials, Facebook, or Instagram for advertising when there are grandchildren and weddings? As a plastic surgeon, I love grandchildren and weddings. “Grandma,” the little precious inquires while pulling on the excess skin on poor Grandma’s neck, “are you a turkey?” Grandma rushes to our office for an emergency neck lift. “Grandma, are you going to die soon? You look old.” No wonder I love grandchildren. And I don’t even have any myself. Weddings are even better. Wedding pictures, or the prospect of them, sends terror through the members of the wedding party. We all know the pitiless cruelty of the photographic lens. Any sag, bulge, or crease will be hurled back at us, amplified in full color. The mother of the bride does not wish to be mistaken for the grandmother of the bride. A lithe, athletic bride-to-be finds that between low body fat and a genetically-gifted lack of breast tissue, she can’t fill out even the most modest of wedding gowns. The maid of honor may want a little liposuction to prevent a zipper malfunction during the reception. You can see why I love weddings. The real purpose of any cosmetic intervention, whether it is a nice hairstyle or a facelift, is to safely and subtly bring a person’s perception of themselves more in harmony with what they see in the mirror or in the photograph. It isn’t to impress others, or to look phony, but to look how one feels. My love of weddings extends beyond the purely rapacious and mercenary. Weddings provide, in their planning, an enormous amount of excited entertainment for all involved. Look

at the TV shows, magazines, wedding planners, and the entire industry of the wedding. It’s a perennial obsession. Some great fights too. Weddings are great theater. There are costumes, lines spoken, drama executed, and often surrounding intrigue. For many of us, it will be our one great chance to strut our hour upon the stage. Weddings are an affirmation of community—a group gathered together for a common purpose in an activity that can’t be done properly online. Most importantly, weddings are a profound statement. They express the belief that marriage remains the foundational base of a society. Marriage is the nucleus around which orbit all the elements of a family, united in spirit and flesh. Weddings reaffirm, in a world that is cynical and detached and digital, that love is alive and relevant, and that commitment is neither quaint or antiquated, but critical to our sense of security and inclusion. Weddings are a communion with the divine, for the divine is love. Mostly importantly, weddings lead to more grandchildren. I love weddings and grandchildren.

Hidden
GEM
Described as a “hidden gem” and “Billings’ best-kept secret”, DanWalt Gardens has almost two acres of manicured lawns, assorted flower beds, garden statues, fountains, and a koi pond with a waterfall. It is the perfect place for a romantic wedding — an outdoor wedding ceremony in a beautiful garden setting and an indoor wedding reception in the Pavilion. The Pavilion is equipped with air-conditioning and also has an attached service kitchen and tiki bar. The new owners, Clint and Suri Lunde, spent their first year renovating, expanding, and improving the facilities to better accommodate wedding parties and other special events. They also added even more plants
and seasonal blooms to the already spectacular gardens and continue to maintain the loveliness of the grounds. As part of their wedding package, they are involved in the event planning with the bride and groom as many times as necessary in the months leading up to the special day to take care of every detail. Conveniently located to hotels, restaurants, and Downtown Billings but secluded by nature, the DanWalt Gardens is easily accessible by out-of-town guests and has an on-site AirBnB. DanWalt Gardens provides a uniquely stunning and tranquil setting for wedding ceremonies and receptions and an unforgettable way to capture beautiful memories of a wedding day.

She wants something that can feel personal to her.” “The royal weddings gave women examples of how to do that, and also perhaps some of the confidence to go and make this decision,” she said. “These royal trends that we saw from the weddings will be repeated, but

in New York. “There were a few dresses inspired by the Givenchy dress, but the Stella McCartney dress seemed to resonate with bridal designers,” Brown said, adding that its mock turtleneck is a more unique silhouette in bridalwear. “That was a style we saw a version of in pretty much every collection.” The evening gown is a wearable look, Gooder said, which may appeal to brides jetting off to a destination wedding. “The halter neckline makes it a little bit sexy but still covered up, and that kind of chiffon fabric is always flattering and pretty,” she said. Both brides wore a second gown on their wedding day. (Eugenie wore a blush Zac Posen dress for evening.) Gooder said that’s a trend, noting that the former Kate Middleton, now Duchess of Cambridge, changed for her evening reception in 2011. “I think that Meghan putting that out there in such a public way really made it something that every bride wants to do,” Gooder said. For her ceremony on Oct. 12, also at St. George’s, Eugenie wore a long-sleeve Peter Pilotto gown with a deep V neckline in the back, a design feature she requested to reveal her scar from childhood scoliosis surgery. “Eugenie felt her scar was an important part of her story,” Brown said. “That probably does speak to a lot of brides who don’t want to fit into a certain mold and don’t feel like they have to.” It’s the idea of being true to yourself, a theme also expressed through accessories. The duchess’ veil had handembroidered flowers from the Commonwealth countries, along with the California poppy to represent her home state. Eugenie made the choice to forgo a veil, possibly to showcase the back of her dress, and wore a diamond-and-emerald tiara, which stood out for the unexpected choice of the brilliant green gems, Brown said. The duchess wore minimal, natural makeup and unfussy hair on her wedding day. Said Brown, “That fact that you could see her freckles, her hair wasn’t in a perfect updo STEVE PARSONS — is reflective of trends we’ve The newly married Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan seen in bridal beauty and Markle and Prince Harry, leave Windsor Castle after their what we’ll see going forward.” wedding.
today’s bride really wants to look unique and like herself, and the personalization elements are the takeaways she can bring to her own wedding.” Shelley Brown, fashion and beauty editor at The Knot, also noted the personal touches these royal brides incorporated into their day — their second gowns for evening that hit a fashion high note, and beauty and accessories choices that spoke to a bride looking like herself. “Both of these brides infused their classic looks with their own personality, and I think that’s a trend that will be influential,” Brown said, adding that their example shows “you can personalize even a classic wedding-day look.” Here’s a closer look at their fashion and beauty choices that might prove influential: Even before nearly 30 million people in the United States tuned in to watch Meghan marry Prince Harry in St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 19, she was a fashion force, driving sales and sellouts. Since the former “Suits” actress became the Duchess of Sussex, bridal gowns inspired by her wedding dresses — the Givenchy ceremony gown with three-quarter-length sleeves and bateau neckline, and the custom, high-neck Stella McCartney number she donned for her evening reception — have turned up on the bridal runways

How to manage your wedding
SEATING CHART CHERYL STRITZEL MCCARTHY
Chicago Tribune
When the wedding guest list is done, venue chosen and ceremony planned, one touchy task remains: assigning seats for the reception meal. Don’t wait until crunch time to begin, wedding planners say. And don’t throw up your hands and not do it at all. “Walking into a sea of tables without a seat assignment can feel like walking into the cafeteria on the first day of school,” says Susan Graham of Signature Events in Atlanta. “It’s very important to the flow of the event,” agrees Gina Cramer
of Make It Happen Events in Des Moines, Iowa. So unless your reception is lounge-style grazing with food stations and no dining tables, buckle down and figure out who’s going to sit where. “Assigned seating makes for less chaos,” says Maria Lindsay of Maria Lindsay Weddings and Events in Orange County, Calif. “A lot of thought goes into it. It can be challenging.” Both bride’s and groom’s sides work together on seating. Where a guest’s table is in the room is important. ing them the best view of bride, groom and wedding party. Don’t place older guests in front of the band or DJ. Consider single guests: Would he or she like to sit with relatives or other singles the same age? College buddies might appreciate being close to the bar. Seat co-workers on the outskirts of the room, but together. “Place your guests where they’re most comfortable,” Cramer says. “You never want to put grandma in front of an amplifier, and I’ve seen it done.” Any strained relationships? If Uncle Dave doesn’t get along with Uncle Mike, separate them by a few tables. Ditto for divorced parents, while keeping them equally centered on the head table. “Usually guests put differences aside for that day,” Cramer says. “But small things can be done to help.” Have a few extra chairs on hand. It’s typical for guest lists to change the night before and the day of the wedding, with a few positive RSVPs dropping out or other guests suddenly able to attend. Or someone shows up with
an unexpected date.
A few tips
Know the maximum and minimum number of guests you can have at each table, given style and size of chairs. Start with a stack of blank paper; each sheet represents one table. Write each guest’s name on a single Post-it note. Start grouping the guests, moving Post-its as needed, to create harmonious tablemates. Your guest list is likely already in a spreadsheet, with columns for title and first name, last name, number of guests in party and special needs (such as highchair, wheelchair, vegan, food allergy). Add a column for table number. Work on seat assignments as RSVPs come in. Your plan should be nearly complete a week before the wedding. “There are countless creative ways to communicate seating assignments to guests as they enter the reception,” Graham says. Consider a traditional escort
card, with guest’s name, table number, and indication of special meal if necessary, in elegant calligraphy laid on a linen-covered table with floral arrangement. For one seaside wedding, instead of escort cards Graham used white capiz shells displayed on sand, with guests’ names and table numbers stenciled on the shells. “Look to Pinterest and your imagination to make this a showstopping element,” Graham says. Don’t need place cards? Use a board on an easel. Either way, arrange alphabetically by guest’s last name, followed by his or her table number. “Do not list Table 1, 2 and so on, followed by names of guests at that table,” Cramer says. “That will take guests a very long time to find their name.” Remember to relax. It’s meant to be fun. “I tell my brides, this is your first wedding,” Cramer says. “But I’m lucky enough to do this almost every weekend.” Distributed by Tribune Content Agency, LLC.

Outdoor weddings, especially in the balmy days of summer, are always a great choice. You can go one of two ways: Playing up the natural, or, in a new trend, setting it off by bringing traditionally inside elements out.
