On December 24, 1979 the Russian tanks and soldiers burst through the Afghan border to keep order in the country as there was complete rebellion against the pro-Soviet government there.
The Russo-Afghan war happened because there was a pro-soviet government in power that brutally suppressed the Afghan people. By early 1979, there was open rebellion almost everywhere in the country and in the winter of 1979, the Soviets decided to intervene to keep peace. The war lasted until 1989 when the Soviets withdrew due to a collapsing economy and a dying military budget.

The Cold War profoundly changed the US and Afghanistan. Afghanistan was torn apart by the Russo-Afghan war and was completely destabilized. The US became the only world superpower after the the end of the cold war and collapse of the Soviet Union. Then, in the late 90s and early 2000s, Afghanistan was taken over by an islamic extremist group called the Taliban and turned into an authoritarian, theocratic country.
Furthermore, Afghanistan was torn apart by the Russo-Afghan war and was in constant economic downturn.
What this means is that Afghanistan was torn apart by rebellion of the Mujahideen and the Invasion of soviet troops to keep the communist regime stable.
Details: 1. In early 1979, the country rebels against the prowesternization government and the country is in disarray. 2. On Christmas eve, 1979 the Soviets invade to keep the communist government stable and to stop the lawless rebellion. 3. The Soviets withdrew in 1989 because the country’s economy was collapsing.
According to Britannica.com, in 1979, the country of Afghanistan was in open rebellion and there were 2 factors of the Afghanistan People’s Democratic party that couldn’t gain support from the populace. That prompted the USSR to invade on the night of December 24, 1979. About 9 years and 2 months later, the Soviets withdrew due to a collapsing economy, leaving the rest of the war to the Afghan army. My evidence supports my analysis because Britannica.com explained all of the evidence that I had confirmed. 2

In conclusion, Afghanistan was torn apart by the Soviet-Afghan war of 1979-89.
As a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union the US became the only world superpower
The Soviet Union ceased to exist on December 26, 1991 after the Supreme Soviet or the highest government power voted itself and the USSR out of existence.
Details: 1. In August of 1991, the Communist Party of the Soviet Union was banned in all territories of the USSR. 2. All the republics voted to secede from the Soviet Union in November and December of 1991 3. On December 26, 1991, the Supreme Soviet or the highest organ of Soviet government, voted itself and the USSR out of existence.
According to Britannica.com, the Soviet Union was essentially disbanded in early December of 1991, but the formal existence ended when the Supreme Soviet voted itself out of existence.
This evidence supports my analysis because it goes into detail about how one of the most powerful countries in the world collapsed.
In conclusion, the evidence shows that the US became the only world superpower at the end of the Cold War because of the dissolution of the Soviet Union at the end of 1991.

As a result of all the in-fighting in Afghanistan, the country was taken over by the Taliban and turned into a theocratic state.
The Taliban took over Afghanistan as a result of the in-fighting of the government and people and turned the government into a theocracy or fusing the islamic religion with the rules, laws, and regulations of government.
Details: 1. The Taliban is an islamic fundamentalist group who survived the Soviet occupation of 1979-89. 2. The Taliban ruled with an iron fist from 1996-2001 3. Then in 2001, the Talibs were forced from power by US led invasion force to take over Afghanistan.
“Evidence”: According to Cfr.org, the Taliban took over as much as 90% of the landmass of Afghanistan and ruled from 1996-2001 and killed or imprisoned any person seen as “un-islamic.”
The evidence supports my analysis because it talks all about the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
Therefore, the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan had a profound effect on how the Afghan government was run. As a result of the Cold War the world profoundly changed. The US became the only world superpower, the USSR dissolved, and Afghanistan was briefly taken over by hostile islamic extremist militants.

My evidence from all theses support my analyses because the evidence has been documented on credible websites and documented in every history book I own and I learned a lot from this research about Afghanistan and the collapse of the USSR.
