mass murdering many black Americans, having marches to stir up, and incinerating fear, setting a prime example of hate crimes.

The Horror Stories Within the Group

Though this appalling group made white people feel safe and secure, behind this atrocity would result in years of torturing, oppression, and horror targeted towards black Americans. The roots of the KKK association date back all the way to December 24, 1865, made by a group of confederate veterans. Over a span of 86 years, the KKK lynched about 3,500 black citizens for just being themselves. On numerous occasions, many black Americans were killed for having jobs specialized for whites, fighting, or not working for white people. In addition, the KKK assassinated blacks when they had they wanted to register for voting. The case of Emmett Till is a famous murder committed by the Ku Klux Klan. According to essence.com, “Emmett Till was a 14-year-old Black boy who was badly beaten before being fatally shot and thrown in the Tallahatchie River by two White men for allegedly flirting with a White woman while visiting a local store.” Clearly, this white supremacist group violently massacred a black man for doing a simple action. This claim only covers one out of many crimes perpetrated “The most successful by the KKK in the south of the 1900s. Klan. They hated Catholics, Jews, and blacks. They were prone to violence.”

Protest against the Ku Klux Klan

Resulting in Chaos

Over the span of their activeness, the KKK drove many people to protest against them. -PETE HAMILL Furthermore, the KKK caused controversy over their fearful practices. Many marches/protests took place, varying from colleges or neighborhoods. Occasionally, violence would mix in during these protests. 3 civil rights activists were killed by the KKK when advocating for basic human rights. campus of Dillard University, a historic black college in New Orleans, led to police pepper-spraying and arresting demonstrators.” Former Ku Klux Klan leader, David Duke, outraged many. His role being in the KKK caused a whole protest to start up. Protests against the KKK either ended up benefitting or harming many people.

Terror Strikes Towns Without a doubt, the KKK initiated fear into black neighborhoods/areas. If the Ku Klux Klan didn’t kill black people, they threatened them. When the KKK tried to scare them, they would circulate their homes and cause panic towards innocent families. Although the KKK did not use the African Americans as slaves, they did make sure they knew they were at the bottom of society. This made black people feel worthless - and that their social class would not progress. Frequently, the Ku Klux Klan would send blackmail letters containing racial slurs or forcing black people to leave their own country. Pg. 44 in Stella by Starlight reads, “‘And I know your parents have warned you all to be careful. Let me add my two cents. Don’t ever walk alone—stay in groups. Do not go into the woods for any reason. If you see anything that looks out of place, run—I say run—and find an adult.’” This excerpt presents how the whole town is concerned about the KKK terrorizing them. In this case, the teacher is telling the students to be cautious and alert at all times. Involving fear and threats was one way to get communities in chaos and distress. Receiving a threat from the KKK is essentially terrifying.

America’s Future

Indeed, the Ku Klux Klan changed America’s perspective - from massacring many black people, starting protests, and establishing horror. To this day the KKK is still active, with 5,000 members. However, nothing can ever beat the murder of Emmett Till, or the fear set in little towns. The protests and marches will forever keep a Number of KKK Members place in history. Why was the KKK started when America is Overtime referred to the “melting pot” country? America is supposed to have all different racial, ethnic, religious backgrounds, yet the KKK is trying to make the US an all white christian country. It’s 2017, and the Ku Klux Klan needs to come to an end.
