Introduction Did you know that when the great depression occurred, people were willing to sell their children for money? What was the great depression? Why did It happen? What happened during it? I will explain these three points In this essay. The great depression was an event that occurred back in the 1920’s and ended in the 1930’s,
WHY DID IT HAPPEN? Why did the depression happen? The reason why it happened was because in ONE day, traders sold 12.9 million shares of stock which was triple the usual amount, over the next four days stock prices fell 23 percent.another reason why Is because the Fed began raising the fed funds rate in the spring of 1928. And as It kept increasing it through a recession that began August 1929, that's also what caused the stock market crash in October 1929. From selling 12.9 million shares of stock, the unemployment rate raised from 3 percent to 23 percent! So that explains how the great depression started, but what happened during the depression?

WHAT WERE THE CONSEQUENCES? What were some off the consequences of the depression? One consequence was many farmers having to lose their farms and lots of people losing their jobs because they couldn’t be paid. Another consequence was the excessive amount of farmland and drought caused the “Dust Bowl” In the Midwest(The D ust Bowl, also known as the Dirty Thirties, was a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the American and Canadian prairies during the 1930s). Because of the depression, many people ended up homeless or they were “hobos” and like i stated before, many people were willing to sell their own children to get money.
