On November 1st 1955, the Vietnam war started. The Vietnam war was very difficult to fight in because over a million people died, there was very bad natural conditions where the war was fought, there was a lot of diseases that you could catch. This was a very long war that caused many casualties. The battle of Hue was the bloodiest battle in the Vietnam war which killed thousands of soldiers.
The Vietnam war started on November 1st 1955. According to History.com, “The war was started because Northern Vietnam was trying to spread communism.” The US were allied with South Vietnam. This led to a 19 year battle between the two countries. The war finally ended on April 30th 1975.
According to Britannica, “Southern Vietnam was not strong enough to defend themselves.” Southern Vietnam needed backup to help defend itself so they got the US to be their allies. The US came in to help and after a long battle southern vietnam and the US won the war. This was a very difficult time for the citizens because the war was strongly affecting them. Some of the battles of the war were taking place right next to some of the villages.
One of the worst parts of the war for the soldiers was insects. According to Historynet, this is how one soldier described malaria: “patients get sick as hell for 12 days, and then
Vietnam War it goes to the brain. At this point, they usually become mortally ill because they have a fever of 104 degrees or more.� The soldiers had bug spray to help protect themselves but it didn’t work. It also says on the website that a lot of soldiers least favorite part of the war was the insects.
In conclusion, this war was a difficult one to fight in. It turned countries against each other and the conditions for battle were terrible. It was terrible for the soldiers and the civilians living in Vietnam.
