Velvet Yarn 100g

4 x balls for Cowl and Beanie

3 x balls for Cowl

2 x balls for Beanie

NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

For Cowl - A 5mm circular needle (60cm long) or size that gives correct tension.

For Beanie – 1 pair 7mm knitting needles, or size that gives correct tension.

A yarn needle

TENSION

For Cowl - 13 sts and 19 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 5mm needles.

For Beanie - 10 sts and 17 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 7mm needles and 2 strands of yarn together

COWL

Using 5mm circular needle, cast on 84 sts loosely

Beg Patt – 1st round – * P3, K1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st round for patt throughout until work measures approx 52 cm from beg.

Cast off loosely in patt.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Darn in ends neatly

BEANIE

Using 7mm needles and 2 strands of yarn together, cast on 49 sts loosely

Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1. 2nd row – K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows once more = 4 rows rib in total.

Beg moss st – 1st row (RS) – K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st row for moss st until work measures 17 cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Shape Crown – 1st row – Moss 1, * sl 1, K2tog, psso, moss 5, rep from * to end = 37 sts.

Work 3 rows moss st.

5th row – Moss 1, * sl 1, K2tog, psso, moss 3, rep from * to end = 25 sts.

Work 3 rows moss st.

9th row – Moss 1, * sl 1, K2tog, psso, moss 1, rep from * to end = 13 sts.

Work 1 row

Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Darn in ends. Using a flat seam, join side edges tog to form centre back seam.
