BODYSCAPE MAGAZINE
W
hen I think of Pat Chance, the first word that comes to mind is BOLD. She is bold in her approach to fitness, business, and how to make a real impact in this world.
BodyScape Magazine has evolved dramatically since its inception in 2018, and showcasing a woman who is over 65 years young on this cover has been my honor. Pat is the perfect representative of what I believe BodyScape Magazine represents, and that is a BOLD woman who wants to get a message out to the world. I tell a visual story through a specific photo shoot for the magazine, and our editor-in-chief Kerrie Lee Brown sets up the interview process to tell your perfect story. It’s as simple as that. This awesome photo shoot of Pat was photographed at the Epic Destination Shoot in Miami late January 2022. The team (Monica Brant, Lisa Opie, and Joey Rolon) executed 15 different outfits and multiple locations in a single day, which is a super-shoot for anyone! Seeing Pat go from semi-nervous when we first met, to the evolving DIVA that she turned into during our shoot blew me away! But it wasn’t without a LOT of help that she was able to achieve these different looks and vibes throughout the day. Of course her number one ‘helper’ was her beloved husband Ernie. He was on-set with us all day not just offering up spousal and moral support for his beautiful bride during the shoot, but he was also an additional set of hands for me (and the crew) while we were moving through the shoot…and that is a huge help! Posing coach Monica Brant had so much fun working with Pat. I remember at the beginning of the shoot Pat was saying that she felt a little awkward, but that’s how you know you’re posing correctly. When I began to share images with Pat from the back of my camera, she was blown away by what she was seeing. She couldn’t believe it was herself…and we were off to the races. Getting back to the word BOLD. The story I just told you above defines this woman’s bold-ness. Take a ‘Chance’. Be bold. Be heard. Take the pictures, and tell your story. Become the inspiration. Believe me when I tell you, people WANT to know about you! I only hope that I have the guts to be this bold 15 years from now when I am 65! Pat is an inspiration not just to her fans, but to her children and grandkids too. Pat, we are so proud of you! BodyScape Magazine is based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Do you have a story to tell? Can you see yourself on the cover of BodyScape Magazine? We would love to hear from you. Send us your ideas. What would you like to see more of in our magazine? CAN YOU SAY WOW?
W
hen our publisher Sarah Lyons Glabman told me that our next cover model was going to be 66 years young by the time this issue came out, I was blown away. I couldn’t believe just how amazing this woman who graces our cover is. In fact, now that I’ve seen these pages come together with my words and Sarah’s stunning photography—I am still in awe of Pat Chance’s beauty inside and out. I am truly fortunate to be able to share her story with you all. As you will find out in my article about the lovely Pat Chance on page 17, she is a survivor in every sense of the word. In her thirties, Pat battled breast cancer and reveals some of the other areas of life where there were struggles. But, today she has survived it all and I am in awe of her positivity and ambition. She’s not stopping any time soon! I also LOVE the fact that Pat is an advocate for older women and feels very strongly that age shouldn’t be a factor in any part of our lives. More specifically, she spends a lot of her efforts educating people about organizations in the fitness industry that put age limitations on women who want to compete on stage. I am so proud of her! Not only for her efforts in spreading awareness, but that she’s a successful fitness competitor in her sixties who is seriously kicking some butt out there! Like I say every issue, BodyScape Magazine is like no other publication I’ve ever worked for (and I’ve worked for a lot). It showcases women of all ages and life stages, and for that I am eternally grateful. For years, I have been immersed in the ever-competitive fitness and bodybuilding industry on the journalism/editor side, and over time, it has become quite clear that the definition of health and wellness has no age barriers. As a result, I am honored to work alongside the talented Sarah Lyons Glabman who has entrusted me with writing each issue’s amazing cover story. Without Sarah, I wouldn’t be interviewing all of these amazing ladies (and a few good men, a-hem,… coming soon…). With 20 years under my belt in the magazine business, I still get excited about producing a new issue from tip to tail. It’s a true labor of love! Over the years, I’ve conducted hundreds of interviews with fitness models, trainers, medical professionals, nutritionists, athletes, dignitaries and Hollywood celebrities—and at the end of the day, I love getting to the core of what makes people tick. Do you know someone who should be on our cover? Maybe it’s you! Contact me at bodyscapemageditor@gmail.com today! I know in my heart of hearts that this beautiful publication has so much more storytelling to get out there. And, I hope you’ll come along for the ride. Yours in health,

If you’ve ever wanted to take your business or brand to the next level, I know exactly what you’re going through. In doing so, I was able to get it up on Amazon. Sure, I have been a journalist and writer/editor my entire adult life, but I realized through my health event that my personal story needed to be shared with others. As a result, I wrote and self-published my book “My Heart. Cover Model Pat CHance is
By Kerrie Lee Brown Bodyscape Magazine Editor-in-Chief On July 6, 2022 Pat Chance will be 66 years young. Can you believe it? She’s absolutely stunning! And to think this fit grandma is just as beautiful and smart as any 30-something out there—and in many ways even more impactful. Make no mistake, Pat is on a mission to make a difference and prove to the world that you CAN do anything you want if you put your mind to it. We should all be so diligent. To be honest, my heart actually melted when I first spoke to our beautiful model on the phone. Her nurturing voice and eloquent demeanor instantly infiltrated the air waves between us—and her enthusiasm during our conversation was contagious. For someone who has achieved so much in her personal and professional life, Pat’s modesty is overwhelmingly commendable. I couldn’t wait to get to know her better. We spoke about her BodyScape Magazine photo shoot, what she’s passionate about, and how she’s taking a stand against ageism in the competitive fitness industry today. Pat is a competitor, a trailblazer, and a changemaker. She’s moving mountains and nothing’s going to hold her back. Pat is a true survivor in every sense of the word. She has lived through breast cancer in her thirties as well as other downfalls in her life, but no matter what she has always come out stronger in the end. Pat is also a huge advocate for older women and feels strongly that age
shouldn’t be a factor at all. More specifically, she spends a lot of her efforts educating people about organizations in the fitness industry that put age limitations on women who want to compete. As a fitness competitor in her sixties, Pat’s presence on stage and behind-the-scenes is shedding light on this topic for other women who are in similar situations. Pat’s beauty shines through in everything she does. Whether she’s spending time with family and friends—or prepping for a fitness competition—Pat has an enticing aura about her that is unrivaled. You just can’t help but notice her genuine appreciation for where she is in life right now—and how very grateful she is to actually still be here. But that’s also due in part to her positive thinking. Pat Chance’s genuine love for BodyScape Magazine came through with every word. From our brief encounter during this interview, I quite easily concluded that Pat Chance is a gentle, authentic person who wants to make a difference and treat everyone as equals. In fact, I’ve never talked to someone so unbelievably gracious about everything she has achieved over the years. Accomplishments that SHE has worked very hard for I might add! Needless to say, Pat’s journey touched my heart in more ways than one—and I hope it touches yours too. Now, here’s your chance to get to know our cover model a little more.
Enjoy! Kerrie Lee Brown Editor-in-Chief

Q&A Where are you from and where do you live now? “I’m originally from Newark, DE where we raised our family of two children Jennifer, 43, and Eric, 42. Currently, I live in Punta Gorda, FL where we moved here five years ago from Annapolis, MD in preparation to retire this year in 2022!”
I heard you have a big birthday coming up. How are you commemorating the event? “Yes! I will be 66 on July 6th, so the BodyScape Magazine photo shoot and this article is a HUGE birthday gift to myself in so many ways.”
How so? “I’ve retired from a long running career in corporate software sales and have had the wonderful opportunity to work for some of the top software companies of the world. I started the first ten years of my career as an accountant than moved into the software industry and never regretted a day of making such a big switch in my career. In fact, I’m very grateful.”
How long have you been married? “On September 6th, I will be married to the love of my life for 47 years. We were high school sweethearts—I’m one of the lucky ones as we are growing up together!”

24
Pat’s life manifesto What makes you get up in the morning? “I am very passionate about fitness and motivating people. I am also passionate to change and improve myself so I can help others do the same.”
How do you inspire people to make positive changes? “I hope to inspire others by doing better than I did yesterday and always challenging myself every day. I like setting goals and achieving them—and I like stepping outside the box. And, as strange as it may seem, I like being a little uncomfortable to gain, grow, and to reach another level.”
Tell us about your realizations now that you’re in your prime and what you’ve learned. “I want to inspire and motivate people—especially the more mature women who think change is too late or impossible because it is not! It’s never too late! You can do anything if you want it badly and want to work for it—it is yours. It is never, ever too late for change and this pertains not only to fitness but life itself.”
I have learned I am 99.9% right when I go with my gut. I feel that it is so important to trust your gut.

How does it feel to see your photos in a glamorous magazine? “This journey has been just incredible for me. I still feel like I’m living a dream—even though my photo shoot happened in February. In these surreal situations you have to step back and say, ‘wow, things are really lining up here’ and it’s amazing.”
What is something you want to get across in this article? “That I am transitioning. What I mean is that I came from a professional career in corporate software sales and now I’m venturing into a whole new world which includes the fitness world. And, this is just the beginning. I’m so excited to see where everything goes.”
If you manifest your dreams, they WILL come true. You just have to say it and say it out loud. I actually write mine down.

She’s a survivor What would you like to tell our readers that may help them get through difficult times? “I have had several difficult times in my life, but the most life-changing event was when I had breast cancer. I was only 38 and back then it seemed like an absolute death sentence. At the time I found out, there weren’t a lot of women living through breast cancer. There was not as much hope as there is today around the illness. I was definitely one of the lucky ones. I hope my story helps other women see that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Every day I am so thankful that I am still here.”
What can you share about your story? “When I was delivered the news by the doctor, he actually got up from his desk and hugged me. I felt like this is it. I am done. To add to this heartbreaking situation, my husband and I had just relocated for job promotions and had a mortgage that did not entertain just one salary. In other words, I could not stop working even through Chemotherapy and Radiation were on the horizon. I had no hair on my body and it was all so devastating.”
Where did your inner strength come from? “I actually don’t know but I believe that I am so much stronger today as a person because of going through that life experience—and living to tell it.”
I made a bucket list and showed my husband. And, what’s the first thing on it? BodyScape Magazine. Check!

36
37
A true inspiration Do you have a life motto or something you live by? “My life’s motto is: Change is my friend!”
What are your goals? “My aspirations in life have always been to be a really good and loving wife, mom and grand mom—first and foremost. On a personal level, my current aspiration is to continue my journey in the fitness world by competing in shows and hopefully getting my Pro Card. I’d also like to pursue fitness modeling opportunities moving forward.”
What else is on your radar? “Since retirement, I’ve had a blank canvas where I am painting my way and loving that I have my health, my husband and my family supporting me every step of the way. I truly do want to change the world in whatever small way that I can change it. If I can help anyone to pick themselves up, motivate them, give them hope, change their world, their outlook, their perspective, etc. I just want to be that person.”

Fitness journey How did your fitness journey begin? “Fitness for me is where I would say it really started. Back in my 50s we were living in the Carolinas. I happened to be on a business trip and I needed time to kill with a time change, so I signed up for a 7 o’clock spin class. My meetings didn’t start until 10 and I’d been up since 3. I absolutely loved the spin class and couldn’t wait to get home. I immediately joined a gym, started swimming, and taking spin classes. After a while, I didn’t realize that I had been swimming a mile every day for a very long time.”
That sounds so exciting. So you got the fitness bug? “Yes! I saw an ad in a local magazine about a local, all-women triathlon event called SheRox, and I thought why not get involved? I’ve got the bike. I’ve always been a runner. And now I swim. So, I signed up.”
How did you do in your first triathlon? “I placed 2nd but the even better news is that I now have 25 triathlons under my belt!”
If you write down your dreams and send it out to the world, you will be surprised how many times things will happen for you. Believe in yourself. Say the words. Don’t be afraid to take a risk and push yourself outside of your boundaries and be uncomfortable.

47
Fitness Journey Wow! That’s incredible. What did you do next? “Ironically, I’m always thinking to myself: What’s next? Well, I knew that running was my strongest skill, so I tried half marathons and started placing in all of them.”
What did you do to keep challenging yourself physically and mentally? “Marathon. I joined a group of runners where we were living in South Carolina at the time; it was the best experience. The support and the comradery with the ladies was bar none. We’d practice short runs and long runs, and did a 3-month program to prep for my first marathon. I ran every bit of the way.”
How has your husband been there for you? “My husband Ernie is so supportive. I’m not sure who got the biggest thrill him or me when I did this photo shoot. Ernie has also been relocated so many times in our marriage for his work—but he’s always supported my dreams. I believe relocation was put into our lives for a reason because the experience felt like my life was placed into a brown paper bag then shaken up putting my life into pieces. You learn to become adaptable and resilient.”
What made you decide to work toward your fitness certifications? “I loved what I was doing so much that I got certified and started teaching what I learned during my training. After another relocation to Maryland, I started teaching at five different facilities and kept pushing myself. Today, I’ve obtained several more fitness certifications. My most recent one is the NASM—Certified Nutrition Coach, which I am so proud to have and add to my NASM—Personal Trainer Certification.”
48
49
Stepping on stage When did you get into fitness competitions? “I thought that fitness shows would be another opportunity to explore so I went through a weight-loss program. We relocated to Florida and Ernie was working in DC during the week. I was my heaviest ever and I refused to go up another dress size so I went on a vitamin B diet and lost 35 pounds. This upcoming September will be three years that I’ve kept the weight off.”
How did you stay motivated to keep the weight off? “I’ve been very focused about where I am going. I decided to enter a fitness contest at 65 years old because nothing was going to stop me from doing what I wanted to do. I had to step back and say is it possible? Yes!”
What’s one thing you’ve learned from fitness contests? “A lot of things you face at this age in fitness are disheartening. You have to find shows that will accommodate your age because there are age categories that imply restrictions. Many shows cap female participants at 45 but for men it’s 70. It makes no sense to me.”
What would you like to see change in the industry? “There are two things I want to change. I want to tell women that if you’re in your 50s or 60s it’s not too late to do a fitness show. And I want to take the industry and change the associations’ age category requirements. Why do you have an age limit? There are age limitations that don’t belong there. It’s a bit of a mission for me.”
50
Have you noticed anything else in the competition industry that you’d like to change? “Yes, I don’t understand the message these organizations are trying to send to women. It’s not fair. Sure, my body may not be as lean as a 45 year old and I know that. But, I’m not a shabby 60 either. It’s interesting because I just want an equal playing ground for all, no matter your age or sex. How ironic.”
What is the biggest difference between your physique and someone who is 40? “In my opinion, it’s your skin. Your skin doesn’t look the same—and that’s no fault of your own. You’re just not as tight. It’s nature. It’s God. The progression of life.”

Shooting for BodyScape Magazine Your photos are beautiful. What made you decide to shoot with Sarah Lyons Glabman? “Oh, what a pleasure it was to work with Sarah! After doing my very first fitness show and going through some very incredible life/body changes, I thought the next check box that has not been checked was modeling. This was something at the very young age of 17 that I had always wanted to do—be in front of a photographer’s camera. I approached my mom and asked if I could attend modeling school at the time but my request was turned down and it was suggested to focus on accounting/bookkeeping.”
How did that impact your decision to shoot with her more recently? “The desire to model never left my soul and now that ‘Chapter 4’ is in play, perhaps there will be more of an opportunity to focus in that direction. I believe it is never ever too late to do anything!”
That sounds like it was all meant to be. Is there anyone you’d like to mention who helped you get into our magazine? “There was a posing camp that was being offered by a local fitness association before my first show and that’s where I met a woman named Jenny. I asked her if she’d be my coach. She was actually running the show. She was my mentor and guiding light. Then I found Rihanna, a very local Anytime Fitness trainer who helped me with my posing. It really took a village to support me and get me up on stage.”
53
Is this how you got introduced to Sarah? “Basically, yes. While I was working with Jenny, I happened to get a notification that she had appeared in BodyScape Magazine. I always have goals and checklists and had always wanted to model or be in fashion. So, I asked her how she got into the Fab 5.”
What happened next? “I circled back with Jenny about her connection to the magazine and she put me in touch with Sarah. We had our first conversation and we just clicked. It’s just been a beautiful experience ever since and that’s how I got involved. I can’t believe how it all worked out. I did my first show in November 2021, reached out to Jenny, and then I was at a photo shoot in Miami the following February 2022. It happened so fast and I’ve loved every minute of it.”
How would you describe being in front of Sarah’s lens? “It was such an amazing experience! One that I always dreamed of since a little girl. I’m still on cloud nine from the photo shoot. Monica, Sarah, Lisa, Joey, Solomon… everyone was my dream team.”
When I finally got out on stage in my first fitness show, I felt like a million bucks. I felt as confident as I could be.
54
55
56
How did you feel before the big day? “Nervous but so excited. I didn’t sleep a wink the night before and tried to get to sleep. We started our day at 3:30 in the morning. Lisa arrived and did my hair and makeup, which was pure magic. Lisa literally transformed me. When I looked in the mirror when she was done, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Is that Pat Chance? OMG! She kept retouching me during the entire photo shoot. She was amazing. And then Joey came on set with Sarah and Monica. Joey did all the dressing and accessorizing. I still can’t believe that I lived through that day and experienced all the wonderful things that I did—and now being interviewed by you in the magazine. I am so grateful to you all.”
What is one thing you remember from the set? “Sarah’s talented eye and her instructions for me to get into the perfect poses and Monica’s delicate touches. Everything was just perfect.”

Personal values What do you treasure most? “My first belief is in family—without it I am nothing. But to be honest, as I grow older it is family that is so surprising to me. There have been so many twists, turns and directions in my life that were never expected. It’s hard to understand. Let’s just say that as you get older you come to know who means the most to you. Those strong relationships are so important.”
What else do you believe in wholeheartedly? “I believe the rest of life’s adventures gets bundled and separated—faith, life, fitness and entrepreneurship, which is so important too. But they are in different compartments. I believe in believing in yourself. I wasn’t always there early on as I was lost, too. I am human after all, but I am there now. I know who I am. I know what I stand for and what I won’t stand for. So, something important to remember is that there is a huge difference in both.”
What message do you want to tell other women reading this magazine? “Always believe in yourself! If you are lost, pause and ask yourself questions. Also, dig deep and find yourself. Find yourself, find your purpose, find your goal and passion—and then go after your desires. Your dreams. No barriers will stop you from achieving in life. Believe it and you will achieve it!”
What if someone needs guidance or help? “All I can say is, make sure to reach out and ask for help. It’s crucial for survival no matter what you’re going through or what you’ve overcome. It doesn’t matter what you’re going through or what you want to achieve, believe in yourself first and foremost.”

Pat Chance’s Tips To A Happy Life: 1.
Don’t set any limitations on yourself. There will be so many people who will want to set limitations for you. Turn down that volume. Do not listen to them—just listen to yourself.
2.
Recognize when people show their true self and believe it. As painful as it is, the people who turn on you, the naysayers, are not the people you truly want (or need) in your life.
3.
Always believe in yourself. You know yourself better than anyone in this entire world. I have doubted and I have questioned myself along the way. Trust your gut.
4.
Manifest your dreams. For example, I wanted to do a fitness show but didn’t think I could do it. But at 65 I’ve done it. I always wanted to be involved in modeling of some sort. And now it’s happening.
5.
Focus on the prize. The prize is different for everyone. Start your journey now because time is an element that you can absolutely not get back in life. There is no better time than today to get started. If you have not found your prize yet, find it and focus on it.
Her saving grace In your opinion, why is it important for women to be self-confident?
What do you mean by not setting limitations on yourself?
“Wow, I love this question. I worked so many years in a work environment that seemed to be male dominated but ‘we’ made changes to the industry. I feel like in my generation we broke ground. We sat at the corporate tables and looked eye to eye when we were closing business. I only wish that I was the complete women that I am today back then. I’ve learned so much in my work life and personal life. Just sayin’.”
“To me, the biggest thing when I say no limitations is that I am not going to let being 65 be a limitation to me. That factor is removed. Period. It’s not going to stop me from doing one single thing. I am proud of my age.”
What do you plan to do? “I want to change the industry and take that age limit and remove it. Being 65 should not be a limitation for anyone—especially women. I think they are limiting their associations because they are limiting participants by age. Why top the female age limit at 40 or 45 years of age? That message is limiting and turns women away who are older not to compete. Expand it! You’re limiting the organization and you are limiting me!”
61
62
Her next step What are your future plans? “As mentioned, I want to achieve my fitness Pro Card in the near future. I am also working on creating a boot camp to focus on fitness and helping others reach their goals. I’d also like to write a book from the start of my life. It may be boring, I don’t know... but many friends have encouraged me to write a book so that’s on my list as well.”
Where can people find you? “I’m going to be launching a new website very soon—with a new direction. I’ve been managing a Facebook page for a gal who writes about the secrets of a bikini competitor and I am inspired. My website is patchancefitness.com.”
Any parting thoughts for our BodyScape readers? “PLEASE don’t hold back. No matter how scary it may seem or even as impossible as it may seem—things WILL get better. They always do! Don’t hold back on your dreams. Trust me, YOU will find it exhilarating! Follow YOUR gut and it just might change your life!”
Grab the rings of life. Your rings of life is critical. Take them to the max. Go after it!

Capturing the Cover By Bodyscape Magazine publisher and lead photographer

Details details and more details! This photo shoot with Pat Chance was ALL about the details. I’d never met Pat before, in person at least, until I arrived in Miami. We had a few phone calls back and forth to get to know one another prior, and find out what her ultimate goal was for this landmark photo shoot she was planning with the Epic Destination Shoot team. Sometimes on these Epic Destination photo shoots, the clients utilize the option to add on the wardrobe and accessories that I provide, and, Pat decided to do just that. Little did I know, that when she and her lovely husband Ernie showed up to our location at 3:30 AM that morning, that she had almost 3 huge suitcases FULL of wardrobe of her own too! Needless to say, we weren’t short of anything for her shoot whatsoever.

As we began moving through the day, we realized that God had decided to have some fun with the weather patterns. (The week we were in Miami, we were faced with MULTIPLE challenges with the weather, even having to re-route locations for one client). It was very windy, and the threat of rain was looming throughout the day too. But you can see by these un-edited, behind-the-scenes images that the weather played out perfectly; almost like the sky was being dressed up for us depending on where we were at the time. Monica Brant, as always, did a fabulous job by assisting Pat with her posing, Lisa Opie absolutely nailed the glam for Pat, and Joey Rolon, as I mentioned prior, was a genius at putting some of her outfits together. Salomon Urraca was also on deck shooting video of Pat for her shoot.
Pat put her trust in to the team and the initial outfits that Monica and I had put together for her, then celebrity stylist Joey Rolon came in and put all of the pieces of this massive wardrobe puzzle together PERFECTLY. This was initially going to be a 10-look (10 different outfit changes throughout the day which is A LOT for anyone) shoot. But Pat added on 5 more looks to her shoot. And we were trying HARD to get it from 21 looks down to 15! This was literally the biggest shoot I have ever done for any one person in one day in my entire 15-year career as a photographer!
67
We were all beyond exhausted by the end of the day, and wound up at my favorite local hangout in South Beach, Local House, and we dove into a well-deserved meal of lobster mac and cheese, prosecco, and lobster sliders! Gosh, if only they had a Local House here in Scottsdale! Selecting the final cover image provided it’s challenges. After all, we had SO many amazing looks to work with! At the end of the day, Pat felt most powerful and sexy in the blue and gold outfit that you see on this stunning cover. I promised Pat the July issue, so decorating this amazing image with the bold red title font made perfect sense!
68
BodyScape Magazine is all about telling the story of the cover model. When Kerrie Lee Brown sent me Pat’s final interview story, I was beyond inspired. I am 50 years young. And Pat has made me realize that age is TRULY just a number! Maybe I will do another fitness competition at age 65 too. Thank you Pat, for trusting this amazing process with BodyScape Magazine! I’m honored that you are gracing the cover of Issue #20!

WHEN STRESSED
GET TO THE GYM BodyScape Magazine Contributing writer Karen Mullarkey

As a trainer, I have heard every excuse in the book why folks can’t make it to their training session. I really should start a quote book because some of them took lots of creativity. What I find baffling is that it is more important than ever to make time for your workouts when you are stressed. Working out will not only let you vent in a positive way but it also helps to lower your cortisol levels, which can cause that unwanted belly fat. When we stress our cortisol levels naturally rise. When we workout our endorphins are released, which will combat the high cortisol levels. So rather than canceling your session for a pity party, turn your frustrations into one heck of a workout. You will be surprised how strong you are when you’re under stress. Back in 2012, I had several major stressors going on in my life……divorce, a stress fracture of my right foot and having to relocate my personal training business with only a 24 hour notice. It seemed like everything that could go wrong was. It was so bad that one day I walked outside to find my car gone, yup he took my only mode of transportation. “Can someone give me a ride to the Ford dealership please?” I could have let all of this hold me back, but I didn’t! I used the negative energy as fuel to drive me to stay healthy and to succeed at my business. I recall being so down and frustrated that I literally cried through workouts. Once the workout was over, I felt better and knew that I would make it through. It is true that whatever doesn’t kill you will make you stronger. I can now look back on those times and grin. I used the gym as my sanctuary and persevered. I took a handful of negatives and turned them into intense, stress relieving workouts. My advice to you is when you feel you can’t get out of bed to go to the gym, know that once you do you will feel so much better mentally and physically. Don’t let stress be an excuse to skip your much needed gym time. You owe it to your body to work it out in a positive way. If you are going through rough times, I can help you get through those workouts:) In the end, when you are soaked with sweat you will realize it’s not that bad. Remember…….”No Excuses and that’s No Mullarkey”!

Feel Great Again in just days! Key Topics: Health Shortcuts for Body Wellness, Athletic Performance, Energy, Anemia, Immunity, Digestion, Gluten Inflammatory Syndrome, Celiac Disease, Whole Leaf Aloe Vera Juice Concentrate and Core Supplements, Mediterranean Diet. November, 2020 What does a world class tennis player, actor, teacher, policeman and child next door all have in common? The answer is: a food sensitivity to Gluten! Understanding gluten and the factors influencing Celiac Disease (CD) will give you the keys to unlock the mystery behind much of the early aging and disease development that affects each child and adult to some degree. Novak Djokovic, the number one tennis player until 2013, winning six Grand Slams, attributed his unmatched ability in sports to eating “gluten free.” Following in his footsteps are excited parents everywhere who are passing on the granola bars and whole grain cereals – allowing the kids and young adults to stay off ADHD and other pharmaceutical drugs, with just a few other dietary tweaks! Like it or not, the Gluten Free Craze is here to stay because reducing or leaving gluten out of the diet altogether really does allow one to feel better in a short period of time. Doctors are also getting on board with an improved definition of CD. Collective research in 2003, spearheaded by Dr. A. Fasano, MD, gave a better understanding of the broader symptoms that exist with ingesting gluten (through mother’s milk) in newborn babies, throughout childhood and with adults. Previously CD was thought to be rare, with just one in 10,000 cases. At last, this explained why so many patients living with chronic digestive issues (ulcers and failing health), were minimized and written off as psychiatric imbalances.
72
The classic symptoms of CD are diarrhea and weight loss due to poor digestion, and malnutrition. Surprisingly though, most people with CD experience few or no outward digestive issues, yet other symptoms are present. • • • •
Only about 30% of people diagnosed have diarrhea. 20% experience constipation issues. 10% actually becoming overweight or obese (not underweight). 40% have other health issues related to diet (see list).
Regardless of what type of digestive or health issues one might be facing, the advice is to be suspicious of dietary gluten found in whole grains; wheat, rye and barley. Other similar inflammatory complex carbohydrates cause reactions including oats, brown rice, sometimes corn, many thickeners, refined sugars (honey and stevia are OK) and also milk. To read more about contributing factors to failing health and bowel disease, along with getting some good tips on food replacements using low gluten grains, delicious recipes, plus the most valuable supplements used for health support – check out the self-help book called Beyond Gluten Intolerance GIS, available on Amazon or by calling 1-800-414-2563.
What, the Hull? Brace yourself for this next fact – the outer fiber from grains tests the highest in the gluten molecule which is made up of protein and carbohydrate! If this confuses you, believe me, you are not alone. The entire world population has been brainwashed to think that the whole grain fiber was the healthiest choice – not the case. Truly it is best to rely on food fibers from fruits, vegetables (non-grain) and beans (as tolerated). Making the switch, you will begin to experience the truth first hand. Eating the offending foods when sensitive causes gas, bloating and ulcers from the inflammation that takes place primarily in the small intestine, due to poor digestion. As years pass, if this inflammation continues in the gut without making dietary changes or adding supplements, the destruction of tissues in the intestinal tract results in malnutrition. It also allows larger food molecules to circulate through the blood. This elicits systemic flareups in the mouth (mouth blisters) and on the skin (skin blisters). A cascade reaction may also occur, referred to as the Gluten Inflammatory Syndrome(GIS), throughout the nervous system, causing other symptoms of CD and reducing body wellness, including:

• Digestive; (all types) diarrhea, constipation, ulcers, gas, bloating, acid reflux, heart burn, swollen belly. • Immune System Imbalances; (all types) decline and over-active autoimmune. • Weight Loss & Weight Gain; plus Obesity. • Anemia; pernicious type and malnutrition induced – lack of B12, Iron, Folic Acid, Protein, Vitamin A, C, B, E, Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc. • Slow Development & Pre-Mature Aging; failure to thrive, scoliosis, osteoporosis, short stature, delayed puberty, dyslexic. • ADD, ADHD, other learning disabilities, lack of muscle coordination. • Mental Illness; (all types) anxiety, aggressiveness, Bipolar, depressive, OCD. • Skin; (all types) rash, itchy, blistery, bruising, acne, dermatitis, white spots and advanced skin issues. • Headaches, Allergies & Fatigue. • Weak Dental Enamel • Nervous System; tingling, numbness in hands and feet, balance, tremors, asthma, heart palpitations and swallowing. • Joint Pain Anemia is one of the most common and important symptoms of CD. Mayo Clinic has elaborated about it as being a culprit behind much of the body fatigue experienced today. Anemia is linked to nutritional deficiencies and is experienced in epidemic numbers across the globe. The World Health Organization classifies anemia as the number one nutritional condition facing humans. It is linked directly to the multiple health issues including shortening ones lifespan. Anemia prevents life-giving oxygen from reaching the 100 trillion body cells that build the body. Nutrients that are critical for avoiding anemia and allowing proper functioning of the entire body and nervous system includes B12, Iron, Folic Acid, Protein and Essential Fatty Acids called essential nutrients. Also, the secondary essential nutrients required for complete metabolism for healthy blood cells are Vitamin A, C, B-Complex, E and the Minerals, Calcium, Magnesium, and Zinc. Ninety one nutrients are known to be required to cover all the health bases for optimum health of the body, sourced from foods or supplements and a robust digestive system is a must to absorb them into the cells which calls for Aloe. In 2003, research at the University of Davis in California showed a remarkable increase in absorption, up to 300% greater in Vitamin E, 200% in Vitamin C and B12 uptake was significantly better and timed released - when taken with a quality Aloe Vera juice*.

Today, many people are experimenting with lowering gluten in the diet. It is quite remarkable how quickly energy, focus and health begins to return – especially adding a few natural health shortcuts. Most people don’t have the urgency to get a formal diagnosis. They just want to feel better mentally and physically. In fact, because certain biological markers that may be missing (in advanced cases), a false negative from the routine gluten blood test is common. People are improving their family’s health dramatically without ever getting any true confirmation of the disease. Feeling better in every category is worth the effort, focusing on improving the dietary choices, digestion and absorption of the foods. Health Shortcuts for Body Wellness for a Three-Month Trail • Eat a more Mediterranean Diet; fish, lean meats, beans, red & yam potatoes, raw nuts & seeds (as tolerated), vegetables and fruits in season (organically grown when possible). Hard cheeses in smaller amounts plus butter, eggs and almond milk (unsweetened). Keep dry snacks, fried & junk foods, citrus and tomato products lower. • Drink a quality whole leaf Aloe Vera juice, dark in color, showing more yellow sap anti-inflammatory agents present (*concentrated if possible for strength by Aloe Life), or take tablets before meals to increase digestive support for kids and adults. • Supplements; Probiotics (milk free), Liquid B12 (under tongue), B-Complex, Omega-3 (fish oil or algae type), Daily Greens (powder or tablet), Multiple Vitamin & Mineral (tablet, chewable or liquid). Also, a liquid calcium and magnesium may be needed if yogurt and fermented cottage cheese are not tolerated.
75
Overwhelmed? Change is never easy, especially with foods and our lifestyles. Peer pressure in families can also be challenging. Do it for you first, don’t try to change the world.
The main regret that is shared from clients is wishing they had begun the renewal diet years before, in childhood! First – focus on eating three meals per day and reduce the quantity of breadstuff, cereals, junk foods and milk. Go with your natural cravings (not addictions) and eat foods that are grown (not processed) and those choices will make a big improvement. Next, get the quality Aloe and Probiotics started with a liquid B12, and then the Greens. Taking a daily greens is “healthy fast food” that decreases hunger and gives the body real nutrition without harm. Focus on one day - then one month and before you know it, in three months brand new cells are built and systems function better in the body very significantly, which allows you to “Feel Good Again” – Enjoy!
