Our past

Bishop Gorman was founded in 1954 with the vision to provide students with an unparalleled college preparatory education in an environment distiguished by Catholic values.

Our present

In January 2012, Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto opened to the Bishop Gorman

In 2007, Bishop Gorman High School moved to its current 36-acre Summerlin campus which houses: • A 5,500-square-foot alumni memorial chapel • State-of-the-art biology, chemistry and physics labs • A learning center • A college style lecture hall • A performing arts theatre • Five athletic fields • Tennis courts • Two gymnasiums

community. The Grotto honors the legacy of Frank J. Fertitta, Jr. and provides a peaceful space for meditation and reflection, enhancing the spiritual lives of our students on campus.

The Fertitta Athletic Training Center, open for the 2012-2013 school year, offers strength conditioning for our student-athletes, a fitness center for all of our students and faculty, trainer’s room, lecture hall, nutrition bar, offices and locker rooms. This facility also boasts a fully-equipped reception center for the Bishop Gorman community to gather for meetings and banquets.

Lecture Halls

As we move forward to meet the needs of the 21st century student, the first phase of our north expansion is in process and is scheduled for completion by August 2013. This phase will include expansion of the Commons to accommodate 750 students, two additional lecture halls, an education building with 10 classrooms, two science labs and two computer labs, a lighted practice field for football, soccer and lacrosse, additional student parking and a landscaped park-like quadrangle where our students can gather to express and exchange ideas. Bishop Gorman High School has become rooted in the fabric of Las Vegas over the last 58 years, never straying from our founders’ initial vision. We continue to welcome students who seek quality, Catholic college preparatory education from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and ethnicities throughout the Las Vegas community.

Liturgy

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:26) Matthew’s Closet In 1996 a group of Bishop Gorman students founded Matthew’s Closet, a free clothing bank for homeless and low-income families in the Las Vegas area. Servicing the homeless directly and personally by distributing free clothing, toiletries, and other useful items, the program is funded and staffed entirely by the Bishop Gorman community. It is part of every student’s community service requirement to work at Matthew’s Closet at least once.

Matthew 25 Board Our student-governed Matthew 25 Board meets regularly to review applications from social service agencies who request monetary and volunteer assistance. This board determines who receives support from the Mite Box collection, which is taken up in every classroom and office throughout

ommunity To teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to create a community where service is valued and celebrated are essential components of Bishop Gorman’s Mission. In addition to our Theology curriculum, monthly Eucharistic celebrations and retreat program, Bishop Gorman is committed to creating an environment where service to the poor and disenfranchised is valued and integrated into the daily life of all. Bishop Gorman requires every student to complete at least 100 hours of service during their four years.

Retreats

But Jesus withdrew to the wilderness and prayed. (Luke 5:16)

Christian Service

If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (James 2:15-17) 13
