The following Miners on the Move highlights were submitted in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
DAVE MICHITSCH ‘58 Dave Michitsch, class of ‘58, is in Rome with wife of 61 years. Mr. and Mrs. Michitsch are truly blessed to have recently welcomed their first great-grandchild, 8-month old, Brinley Marie Deyoung. Their other granddaughter, Ava Michitsch, will graduate from Manogue in June 2022.
CHUCK BURR (BMCHS friend and husband of Carol Burr ‘63) Chuck Burr was one of 37 war Veterans to make the trip to Baltimore and Washington D.C. on October 21, 2021. The trip honored veterans and brought together men who served in the Army, Marines, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard during the time of the WWII, Korea and Vietnam wars. Chuck, along with his 16 year old grandson, Michael Micone, visited and spent time at the World War II, Korean, and Vietnam memorials as well as Arlington National Cemetery, Lincoln Memorial, the Roosevelt Memorial, the Law Enforcement Memorial, and many others. Honor Flight Nevada organization has been making these trips for over ten years honoring our Veterans.
PAUL STRICKLAND ‘67 Paul attended the University of British Columbia in Vancouver where he received his M.A. in English in 1974. In 1980 he received another M.A. in history from the University of Nevada, Reno. After receiving both of his Masters, Paul was hired as reporter by The Medicine Hat News in 1981 and then took a job at The Prince George Citizen, a daily paper, where he worked on and off from 1990 to 2015. Throughout his career, Paul wrote articles and columns for college, university, and astronomy-society publications, and was also a political columnist. Paul continues his work as a freelance writer, editor, and also writes reviews of books, plays, and poetry readings. He plans to have a chapbook of essays, stories, and poetry published before Christmas of 2021.
CELESTE (TAVERNIA) JOHNSON ‘69 Celeste retired from the University of Nevada in 2012 as an undergraduate Biology Labs manager. She then moved to Arizona to be with her daughter’s family where she stays busy quilting and planning for a time spent with her grandchildren. Celeste’s husband, Gary spent the summer hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail. Gary has been active with his Knights of Columbus Council and Assembly. Together, Celeste and Gary have visited Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland, and are hoping to make a trip to Bavaria later in 2022.
RAY HAGAR ‘71 Bishop Manogue studentathlete alum, Ray Hagar was inducted to Nevada Press Association Newspaper Hall of Fame in September 2021. Ray retired from the Reno Gazette-Journal in 2016 as the RGJ’s senior political reporter. From 1993 to 2000 he also acted as RGJ sports editor.
JOE ARRASCADA ‘87 Joe Arrascada ‘87 won the 2020 election for University of Nevada regent District 10. In an RGJ opinion piece from October 21, 2020, Joe says “I want to bring the innovative approach I take to life to my policy making decisions while representing the voters and residents of District 10.” KERRI GARCIA HENDRICKS ‘88 Kerri Garcia Hendricks was named Executive Director of Marketing and Communications at the University of Nevada in April of 2020 following a national search. Garcia Hendricks had served as Director of Communications for the University of Nevada since 2016 and as Interim Executive Director of Marketing and Communications since April 2019.
BLAKE WILLIAMS ‘04 Blake Williams ‘04 has been welcomed to Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty as one of their Real Estate Advisors. Approaching his seventh year as a Realtor, he focuses on residential real estate in the Reno and Lake Tahoe area.
KATIE O’GORMAN, DDS ‘05 Dr. Katie O’Gorman ‘05 joined Brunelli Dental Partners in Reno. After graduating from Bishop Manogue, she received her BS in Biology from the University of Nevada in 2009, and she received her DDS at the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry in 2013. She then completed a General Practice Residency at the University of California, San Francisco the following year. She is thrilled to be back in Reno with her husband, Luke Smith ‘08, whom she married in 2019.
ERIC PAULSEN ‘06 Eric attended Full Sail University in Winter Park Florida and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Recording Arts. He then moved to Los Angeles to complete an internship with Wildwoods Picture and Sound. In 2016, Eric was nominated by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for a Daytime Emmy Award as Sound Editor for Outstanding Sound Editing – Animation on “Half Shell Heroes” for Nickelodeon. In 2017, he won a Daytime Emmy Award as Sound Designer/Sound Effects Editor for Amazon’s “Lost in Oz: Extended Adventure,” which was chosen as Outstanding Children’s Animated Program. Eric is currently with the Formosa Group, a full-service postproduction sound company that serves independent and studio filmmakers and content creators.
BEN GURRIES ‘06 AND JACK GURRIES ‘14 Last June, Brothers Ben Gurries ‘06 and Jack Gurries ‘14 went on a life-changing pilgrimage. Their community, Servant Brothers of the Home of the Mother, brought them on a spiritual journey passing through sanctuaries, nature’s cathedrals, processions, and devotions from both France and Spain. The comradery, joy, devotion, hardships, and change of plans (adventure), brought each pilgrim closer to the Kingdom of God. More information and a video of their journey can be found on the Servants HM Films YouTube channel. CONNOR TALBOTT ‘10 Connor Talbott ‘10 has brought the same passion and drive from his days playing football at Bishop Manogue to all his endeavors since graduating. Connor was an offensive lineman for the Wolf Pack from 20112014 and is currently a medical student at the University of Nevada, Reno. He hopes to specialize in emergency medicine as he loves the fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
NILES LUJAN ‘11 Manogue Alum Niles Lujan ‘11 was recently named to the starting five of the RGJ’s All Decade Boys Basketball Team. Niles played multiple sports for Manogue and is still one of Nevada’s all-time leaders in assists and steals for basketball. Additional Manogue alumni were named to the team including Bobby Hunter ‘10, Ethan Dillard ‘11, Derek Novsek ‘15, Aidan Cantwell ‘18, Gabe Bansuelo ‘19, Kolton Frugoli ‘19, and Cort Ballinger ‘21.
NEIL HEALY ‘11 In September 2021, Neil moved to Murcia, Spain to work as an “Auxiliar de Conversación,” (or an English language assistant). Through the Spanish program ConversaSpain and the local education authorities, he works with teachers at schools and helps students learn conversational English. GUSTAVE ROSSI JR. ‘11 Gus Jr. graduated cum laude in Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno and was accepted into their medical school. After much debating, he chose Anesthesiology at Tucson Arizona. Now, Dr. Gus Rossi is entering his third year in residency and is well versed in the 60-70 hour-a-week workload.
GIANNA ROSSI ‘14 Gia graduated from Orvis School of Nursing in 2018. She worked for Renown medical in Telemetry until the pandemic hit and became a traveling nurse. She is currently at SLO having a wonderful time.
RYAN CANOY ‘12 First Lieutenant Ryan Canoy was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from the University of Nevada, Reno’s US Army ROTC Program as a distinguished military graduate in 2017. He is with the 82nd Airborne Division based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
KRISTEN EISSMANN ‘15 Kristen Eissmann ‘15 graduated from Eastern Washington University with a Bachelor’s in Therapeutic Recreation. She was an Honors Society member and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
NATHAN CLINGER ‘15 Nathan Clinger ‘15 recently graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Master of Business Administration degree. Nathan previously earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2019. He currently works for ACCO Engineering Systems. SAM DERUSE ‘19 AND JACK MASTERSON ‘19 Both Sam DeRuse and Jack Masterson are in their junior year of college - Sam, West Point (pictured left) and Jack Masterson, Naval Academy (pictured right). The two BMCHS alumni reunited at the 2021 Army vs. Navy football game in New Jersey. Both young men have decided to give back with service to our country after graduation in 2023. Go Army beat Navy & Go Navy beat Army!
CHELIE SENINI ‘19 Bishop Manogue Studentathlete alum, Chelie Senini has made quite the name for herself as a collegiate athlete at the University of Nevada, Reno. Playing softball and starting all 40 games for the Wolf Pack, Chelie was recognized for the First Team All Mountain West and set the school all-time record for stolen bases at 23-23.
EMMA PENCE ‘19 Emma Pence has been featured as an asset to the Montana State Volleyball team. Emma had an impressive 2019 season as a freshman and started in all 29 games for the Bobcat volleyball program. She ended the season ranked second in the Big Sky Conference by averaging 1.10 blocks and 1.64 kills per set. Her coach, Daniel Jones, is confident that she “has the physicality and mentality to be an elite middle blocker.”

Jim Williams Miner Golf Classic. The annual Jim Williams Miner Golf Classic was held at Gray’s Crossing Golf Course in Truckee, Ca. on October 1, 2021.
Family Night Tailgate. On September 10, 2021, Miner families enjoyed an evening of face-painting, games, music, and shave ice!

Grandparents and Godparents Day Mass. A special Grandparents and Godparents Day was celebrated on September 23, 2021. Miners honored their grandparents and godparents by attending Mass led by Fr. Bobin. The afternoon concluded with a reception on the front patio where refreshments and family portraits were offered.

Respect Life Mass. Bishop Manogue students had a wonderful Respect Life Mass with Bishop Mueggenborg on October 14, 2021.
Open House provided a great opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to welcome prospective families to Bishop Manogue.
St. Nick Night. BMCHS held the second annual St. Nick Night on December 1, 2021. It was a festive way for Miner families to stock up on BMCHS spirit wear for Christmas gifts!

LEIGHTON HATCHETT Brittany (Brisson) ‘12 and her husband, Jay Hatchett, welcomed baby Leighton Hatchett on February 1, 2021. Leighton joins big sister Emory. Brittany and Jay own Prestige Construction and Building Solutions in Reno.
KASH HAYES AND COOPER GREY WALLIN Bishop Manogue’s Kinesiology teacher, Kelsey Wallin, and her husband recently welcomed their second child, Cooper Grey Wallin who was born on November 18, 2021, and joins big brother Kash Hayes Wallin, born on March 28, 2020.
