Can You Still Make Money with Affiliate Marketing in 2014? Is affiliate marketing dead? It’s the question on everyone’s lips, particularly affiliate marketers who used to make as much as thousands every month but are now barely making hundreds. It’s also the big question for people who are still thinking of making money with affiliate marketing. Is it still worth the trouble? In 2008, Jupiter Research found that $2.1 billion were being paid in affiliate fees. In 2014, billions are still being paid, but long time affiliate marketers aren’t feeling it. That’s because Google has changed, the market has changed, and affiliate marketing itself has changed. If you want to make money with affiliate marketing today, you can’t use the same methods that they used back in 2008 or even in 2013. A mere two years ago, the affiliate marketing world was filled with opportunities for fraud and deception. A lot of companies that signed up to have their products or services marketed via affiliate links had issues with how the sales were being conducted as well as how the marketing was being done. A lot of affiliate marketers would resort to fake advertising to get that click, telling people there were coupons or discounts when there weren’t any. But because of the popularity of affiliate marketing, Google, along with other search engines, has taken steps to clean up the grey areas of this business. Is Google trying to rid the internet of affiliates? It’s highly unlikely. A lot of affiliates are blogs that offer high quality content that’s useful to a lot of web users and Google’s job is to give these users what they’re looking for. But I do think that efforts are being taken to avoid leading web users to coupon or discount sites for the simple reason that a lot of those offers aren’t legitimate. And even if your coupon site is legitimate, most affiliate managers are sick of the coupon approach and would rather go with affiliates who are bloggers. Affiliates who choose to blog to get their affiliate links out there are still in the affiliate marketing business while other affiliates aren’t. Bloggers have so much success in the affiliate marketing business and have survived the culling that affiliates went through after Google made some protocol changes. That’s because web users essentially go online to look for solutions to their problems and blogs are more likely to offer them those solutions along with useful and relevant supplementary information. The blog approach to affiliate marketing also creates potentially long time and loyal customers instead of the instant single sales that coupon websites get. It’s not that affiliate marketing is dead; far from it. And you can still make money with affiliate marketing and even a decent living. But the landscape of affiliate marketing has changed and you have to change right along with it. Roll with the punches by

doing your research and finding out what’s working and what isn’t. Instead of going for the easy pay out, invest your time in affiliate websites with high content that potential customers will appreciate long term.
