How to make an ebook that sells

How to Make an eBook that Sells It sounds like a great idea – write an eBook, publish it on Amazon or in other eBook online markets, and wait for the book to start selling and for the money to come pouring in. But like most great ideas, it isn’t as easy as it sounds. It wasn’t easy even when self-publishing hadn’t caught on yet and there were only a handful of authors pioneering eBooks, and it hasn’t gotten any easier with the thousands of people all over the globe trying to make money out of an increasingly popular book format. If you still want to stick it out then congratulations, you might just enjoy the rewards of a best-selling eBook! A lot of people have the wrong idea about eBooks. They think if they write a few lines and slap them together then post it online, they’ll be making money hand over fist. But even if eBooks are cheap and are now accessible for most people, the market for books isn’t any less discerning. To help you out, we’ve taken a look at the eBooks that sell the most, found the things they had in common, and created the guidelines on how to make an eBook that sells. 1. What’s in demand? Writing the next great American novel is a worthy goal but it isn’t likely to pay your bills for the month. A great tip when you’re just starting out is to search for the bestselling books in Amazon. That way, you have a good idea of what’s in demand in the market today. A good way to go is a how-to book; you have a clear market and you can use the skills and knowledge that you already have. A few examples are ‘how to juice your way to weight loss,’ or ‘how to start an online business.’ 2. Word count Creating an eBook isn’t all that different from writing any other book. That is, you need to find time to sit down and actually write which is tougher than it sounds. Statistically, the longer eBooks are, the better they sell which means you can’t just do a free flowing narrative that’s worth about 3 000 words. For your eBook to have a fighting chance, don’t go below the 10 000 word count mark. If you can manage it, make it longer; as much as 20 000 to 35 000 words would be great. If writing such a lengthy title may seem daunting, you can organize your thoughts with a draft of the table of contents with different sub-sections so that you have a guide. 3. A visual cover When learning how to make an eBook, a lot of writers make the mistake of ignoring the final step of choosing or creating a cover. Remember that it’s your book cover that makes the first impression for your book so don’t skimp and don’t rush. Make sure that it is just as visually effective as a small, button version as much as when it is full-sized. 4.
