The Winning Strategies That You’re Forgetting in Affiliate Marketing In 2008, a study by Jupiter Research confirmed what a lot of internet netizens have long suspected – that billions were being paid in affiliate marketing fees every year. What started out as a small marketing idea has blown up into a billion dollar pie and everyone wants a piece of it; but what does it really take to succeed in affiliate marketing? First off, let’s talk about what affiliate marketing is. Affiliate marketing involves sending traffic to someone else’s site usually with your own website. To put it simply, an affiliate marketer will have his own website filled with content relevant to the affiliate links. And if the website generates enough traffic, a lot of people will click those affiliate links and, because of the relevant content, they are more likely to buy the products or services of the third party website. For every sale that they get via the link from your website, you get a commission. And that’s pretty much how you make money affiliate marketing. Unfortunately, not everyone succeeds in affiliate marketing, and here’s why. The affiliate marketing pie is worth billions of dollars and everyone wants to get the largest share they can possibly get, but they usually take the wrong approach. To make as much money as possible, they use a net strategy – a non-targeted, all inclusive net that they dip into the highly populated internet world, hoping they catch as many fish as possible. They do this by creating dozens of affiliate marketing websites in different niches without giving each website its due attention. What they end up with are websites with poor content and low turnover rates. Here’s the top winning strategy in how to make money affiliate marketing – pick a niche and stick to it. Even if you have dozens of websites, it would be better to stick to one niche, one that you know well. That way, you can back up your websites with high quality content. The better your content is, the more your recommendation counts. The second winning strategy for affiliate marketing is help, don’t sell. When you put up a website for the purpose of affiliate marketing, you are presenting yourself as an expert of your niche, or at least an experienced person whose recommendations count for something (and don’t forget that even by simply placing an affiliate link, you are making a recommendation). A lot of affiliate marketers lose sight of the fact that they are supposed to build themselves up as knowledgeable about the product. They’re supposed to be advisers, not salesmen. Veer away from the “BUY THIS!” method; instead, offer content that’s useful and unbiased. This will help potential customers trust your word and your recommendations. The third winning strategy in affiliate marketing is tracking. A lot of affiliate marketers make the mistake of not tracking their links. It’s a huge error because when you get

that elusive click from a visitor, you will want to know which page succeeded in making the sale. By knowing which pages are converting, you’ll know what’s working and what isn’t. There are a lot more effective strategies in affiliate marketing but these are the big three that are most important and ironically the most neglected.
