Mastro Residence

Our concept for the space began by embracing a french-classical influenced landscape that utilizes such features as crisp structural lines, symmetry, various paving textures, a prominent focal point and the creation of outdoor rooms. Formal landscapes evoke a calmness, order and balance; which originate from having everything in its place and in proportion. A formal garden’s intricate framework is identified through primary and secondary linear walkways, and clipped evergreen hedge rows. Found beyond the borders of clipped evergreens, is a profusion of old fashioned flowers that are arranged within a balanced design. Such flowers include roses, lavender, daisies and lilies. Perennials, woody plants and ground cover were selected for their form, size, texture, color, sustainability and cultural preferences. All plant material was chosen based on existing site conditions, landscape design style and defined objectives of the client. It was our intention to include plants that showcased handsome features throughout the year; whether it be a bold fall color or vivid blooms. By including different species of herbaceous perennials, a vibrant flush of color will be exhibited from early spring through fall. Perennials are a wonderful addition due to their ability to mature gracefully in your landscape. The perennials were divided into two collections, for sun and shade, so that each area of the garden may offer effective combinations of both color and texture. The perennial collections are located on the side yard, front and rear of the property. The herbaceous plantings in the back of the residence will be enhanced with the addition of woody plants, such as trees and shrubs. The woody plants selected will structurally anchor the gardens, provide seasonal interest and represent a figurative line that connects the overall space.

introduction

Our intentions behind your landscape design project were to create a series of outdoor rooms that offered four-season interest, beauty and functionality. For this particular landscape we strived to express the creative vision and personal style of the client; and capture the essence of the existing hardscape elements and architectural style of the home. By understanding the location, we were able to create a advantageous and aesthetically pleasing space.
