Hello, Bismarck Bridal readers! If you are like me, recently engaged, congratulations! I am excited to be sharing my experience with all of you as we prepare for this next step in life. My name is Maria Fleck, and I have been with Bismarck Bridal since my senior year of high school, working behind the scenes on social media, writing stories, and pretty much doing anything else our awesome publishers Hannah and Caroline need. It’s crazy to think I am now getting married and writing a letter to our readers!

letter from the writer

August 5th of 2023 my now fiancé Luke planned a picnic date out at McDowell Dam. While I had a suspicion that he was proposing, I was not fully confident until I saw him get down on one knee and ask the question. The excitement I felt that day has carried over into all the wedding planning we’re doing now. I keep telling people that I’m incredibly impatient for the wedding, but that it’s also a good thing we have so much time to plan because there are an overwhelming number of details to figure out. I am honestly so grateful for this magazine because it helped us narrow down the list of vendors significantly. I also have a clearer vision of what I want on our wedding day thanks to the stories of brides and the advice of local vendors featured in our magazine. I am so grateful for the incredible customer service we’ve experienced from the different local vendors we’ve been in contact with. From flowers to photos to the venue, each vendor has gone above and beyond to make sure everything will be perfect once June 8th rolls around. I know thanks to their hard work and talent our wedding will be everything Luke and I have been hoping and planning for. I can’t wait to see it all unfold.

For Brenda Keller, the realization that help is essential when planning a wedding came after she did everything for her own wedding in 2002. "I did all my flowers, cake, and food. Pretty much everything," Brenda explains. "The day after our wedding I said to my husband ‘what dummy does this to themselves?’" she laughs. Brenda went on to help plan weddings for family and friends, and in 2006, Bridal Butler was officially born, and she did her first wedding for someone she had not known. A former CNA, Brenda has been full time with Bridal Butler for the last nine years.

decor

As the Bridal Butler, Brenda offers a wide variety of services to her wedding clients. First, a free consultation helps her understand a couple's needs for their day. From there, pricing is decided, and the wedding date is held for two weeks. As soon as a contract is signed, Brenda gets to work. "We do everything from rentals all the way up to full on decorating. We have linens, chair covers, ceiling décor, and center pieces," Brenda explains. She can also do artificial bouquets for brides and bridesmaids. Custom guestbooks are usually included in the couple's package as well as custom signage. Brenda’s timeline is pretty fluid until two months before the wedding date. "The only thing I tell everyone is that everything needs to be decided two months out. If I have to buy something anything later than two months is too close, and I may not be able to get what the couple wants," Brenda says.

Brenda Keller | Bridal Butler www.facebook.com/brendabridalbutler

During the week of the wedding Brenda meets with the couple to ensure everything is set and takes it from there. Even with help, we all know planning a wedding comes with some stressors, and Brenda is always there for her brides when they need to chat. "If a bride is having a panic attack or they want to talk wedding stuff and no one else wants to, they can call me," Brenda says. "I could talk about wedding stuff all day long, and I never get bored of it!" How does Brenda continually facilitate unforgettable weddings? It's with the help of her three boys. After her husband, a big part of Bridal Butler, passed away three years ago, Brenda's sons Logan, Zachary, and Wyatt have stepped in and love weddings just as much as their mom. "Those boys are amazing. They take care of everything. Logan has done weddings on his own, and Zachary wants to take over for me.” Staying true to her Bridal Butler name, Brenda does as much or as little as her couples need, much like a traditional butler would. "Whatever needs to get done, we'll do it," she explains. Helping couples have the most incredible day is Brenda's priority, and it's a job she truly loves. "I just kind of fell into this, but it's the best job I've ever had," she says, smiling.

Jacey Nesland is a mainstay in the Bismarck/Mandan floral world and her shop, Rustic Petals, continues to make an impact on the bridal scene with creativity and beautiful floral design. The Rustic Petals owner's passion, creativity, and natural talent lend themselves perfectly to the ever-changing floral design industry. "I have my own style that draws people in,” Jacey says. A self-proclaimed perfectionist, Jacey loves her job and enjoys knowing her arrangements can completely transform a photo, a venue, and even an entire day. "Many of my brides and clients just simply give me a vision and a color scheme and let me do my thing and run with it. Those, I find, are the most fun and where I am my most creative. They trust me with their vision, but also trust my professional opinion," says Jacey. While wedding trends are ever changing, a few trends in floral have stayed consistent. The Boho theme is still popular, but a shift of colors has brought a fresh look to the current trend. "Were still seeing the pampas grass and eucalyptus," Jacey explains." The trends are always changing not only from year to year, but season to season, and we strive to stay on top of them in order to create unique pieces for each and every bride."

Jacey Nesland | Rustic Petals www.bismarckflowershop.com

With just a few dates available in 2024, she recommends scheduling a consult up to a year in advance but don’t worry, she can still help out those last minute brides."Most of our brides book a year or more before their wedding date. Although we suggest early notice, we do welcome last minute brides. Shot gun weddings are exciting and fun. A small deposit is required to secure your date, and we like to make the process as easy and simple for our couples as possible," says Jacey. The process of booking your florist shouldn't be complicated. "If a bride comes in prepared for our consultation it can go quickly, but we also enjoy helping those who aren't quite sure what direction they want to take." Jacey explains. During a free consultation, Jacey sits down with each bride, and they talk through the bride's vision for her wedding day. Jacey encourages brides to bring inspiration photos and prepare a list of everyone that will need flowers. Having a good idea of exactly what floral you'll need on your wedding day helps Jacey put together a budget conscious proposal. Include centerpieces, corsages and boutonnieres, bride and bridal party bouquets as well as altar and memory arrangements. Each Rustic Petals wedding is customizable ensuring that no two weddings are the same. While colors and themes can be similar, Jacey likes to add small, creative touches that ensure her brides have unique bouquets and floral arrangements. Jacey pours her heart and soul into each of her weddings and putting a smile on her bride's faces is her priority. "Every bride has a vision, and I get to bring it to life," smiles Jacey.

White Lace Bridal For over thirty-five years, White Lace Bridal has been the premier bridal store in Bismarck. Countless numbers of brides have found their wedding gown among the rows and rows of satin, tulle, and lace at the downtown store. Owner Anne Cleary is proud of the work she and her staff have done to make brides feel their best on the most important day of their lives. The staff at White Lace Bridal is ready to help you find the perfect dress that is most uniquely you.

GENUINE PHOTOGRAPHY

Things can quickly change after getting engaged and one of the quickest changing things is your social media newsfeed. Your timelines are suddenly filled with venue décor, bridal beauty, and of course wedding dresses. How do you choose? How do you know which dress will be perfect for you? How do you stand out and ensure that you’re not only a unique bride but also the best version of yourself on your biggest day yet? Trust the Experts

dress

The staff at White Lace Bridal will immediately ease your mind and lead you through the dress shopping experience in a fun, comfortable, low-stress way. A consultant’s job is to guide brides into taking the next step. “The success in a bridal appointment isn’t necessarily about trying everything on, it’s about trying the right things on,” Anne explains. “So, it’s us asking what kind of bride our client wants to be, what makes them feel beautiful, what they’re wearing when they feel their best. It’s helping narrow that focus to get to the dress.” The dress that is uniquely perfect for you. Choices, Choices, & More Choices

WLB Team | White Lace Bridal www.whitelacebridalnd.com

How do you make a choice when options are so plentiful? Anne recommends relying on the experts. “Not just for the perfect fit and the unmatched experience but also the nitty gritty of the timeline for fittings and physically having your dress in hand,” she explains. Having a consultant that has a good understanding of the bridal industry and dress trends will make sure you are able to see and try on the right gowns. Your consultant can help you understand why you chose the dress you did, so you’re not second guessing in a world where options are always growing. Your bridal consultant is your ultimate hype girl but is also your industry expert there to keep you on track. “I think that full experience that you get at a designer bridal shop with a consultant that understands the industry and every changing trend is the only way to feel really secure with your decision,” Anne adds. The Ever-Evolving World of Bridal In a world of instant gratification, the bridal industry is trying to figure out how to match the consumer’s penchant for the need to have everything right now. Bridal gowns take time and learning to be patient in a world where everything is seemingly at your fingertips can take some adjustment. Anne’s best advice is to shop early so you have the time needed to not only find, but to also get fitted and receive the dress of your dreams. “Everything in the industry is changing and can seemingly get done tomorrow. That’s just not the case with dresses,” Anne says. With over 30 years of experience, Anne and her staff are well-versed in navigating the ever-evolving world of wedding dress shopping. Trust in their industry expertise and knowledge to ensure that your experience is unique, everything arrives on time and fits as it should, and you find the perfect dress for you.

Since 1958, Roberts Floral & Gift has been one of Bismarck’s most trusted floral shops. The locally owned fourth generation shop is known for their quality, creativity, and, most importantly to current managers Amy and Joe Pierce, the relationships they build with their customers. “We treasure our customers, and we know that that’s the only reason we’ve been in business for 65 years,” Joe says. To bring their beloved customers new and exciting trends and techniques, Roberts Floral makes education a priority. Amy, Joe, and 3rd generation owner Laura attend classes to hone their skills. “We stay educated in the floral arts so that we can do the best job we can for our customers,” explains Joe.

Complementing dresses and expressing personal style are also elements Joe feels will trend throughout the next year. “We like when people bring in sentimental items to work into their bridal bouquet, such as lace from their grandmother’s dress, prayer books, and bibles, heirloom jewelry like broaches and pearls and other special pieces.” When preparing for a visit to Roberts Floral for all your wedding needs, Joe suggests having a few pieces of information handy. He likes to know what your colors are, how many people are in your wedding party, and what style you’re going for. This is where things like Pinterest and industry magazines come in handy. “I love it when a bride comes in with her Pinterest boards and pictures saved on her phone,” says Joe. “We focus on listening to what our clients want. Your wedding is our wedding. We want to be there with you and see your vision so you can get exactly what you want.” Roberts Floral has several designers, so they can take a few weddings a weekend and rarely have to say no to a wedding. “We do the wedding parties, and we can also decorate the church, venue, tables, and the reception. We have arches and silver pieces to rent,” Joe explains. “It’s truly 100 percent customizable. Whatever the couple is looking for we work with them to make it happen.” NEWAGE CREATIVE

The Petterson/Bauer wedding is the perfect example of Roberts Floral’s ability to personalize and help create the perfect unique wedding arrangements for each couple. “The whole wedding was very special & very memorable. I made her bridal bouquet, bridesmaids, corsages, wristlet corsages, boutonnieres, arch flowers, flower bouquets for on top of whisky barrels, flower bouquets on top of metal cream cans, centerpieces, bud vases & more,” raves Amy. “Autum brought in feathers & pampas in different shades & sizes. Her wedding had a color palette that was beautiful, rich & had lots of depth. She also brought in a beautiful hand crafted leather band piece that was tied tightly onto the stems of her bridal bouquet. She gave me some inspiration pictures & list of flowers she liked and trusted me to go from there. She also gave me lots of freedom to use flowers, greens, grasses, fresh cattails, dried wheat many kinds of flowers that matched her overall look. Their wedding was a combining of two families, and it was represented in the flowers. Grasses, cattails & flowers that represented the lakes of Minnesota side of the bride’s family and the dried grasses, wheat & prairie looking flowers too representing the prairie and ranches of North Dakota of the groom’s side,” expresses Amy. “We have people coming in right now and ordering anniversary flowers that we did their wedding 50 years ago and brides coming in saying we did their parent’s wedding,” Joe says. “It’s generational, and that’s really cool. We want our customers to feel like they can trust us with anything.”

“We are in the love business,” founder Jesse Riddle often said of his jewelry stores. For over 60 years and in 60 stores throughout nine states, this sentiment has remained true. Now a third-generation company, Riddle’s Jewelry has been providing excellent customer service and outstanding quality jewelry since 1959. Michelle Jacobson is currently the Assistant Manager with Riddle’s Jewelry and has been with the company for 12 years. “It is nice working for a family-owned business where I am not just another employee. I truly feel part of the family,” says Michelle.

Rick Krefting is the Operations Manager and has been with them for 17 years. He is well known in the community with a client base who ask for him by name. Matt Sherlock is the Advanced Goldsmith who has been there since 2016 and currently works on all types of jewelry. Jade Dahl and Shayna Crimmins both started back in January 2022. Shayna has started her Goldsmith Apprenticeship while Jade runs the social media page. The process of buying an engagement ring at Riddle’s Jewelry is all about the customer’s needs. Store manager Ryan Faul and his staff recognize that not everyone who walks into the store is a jewelry expert. The great news is that Ryan and his staff are. They can help even the most nervous of future grooms find the perfect engagement ring. “Getting to know our customers and their needs is a priority for our staff. These are significant purchases, and we want our customers to know they can trust us to help them make a great decision,” says Michelle.

“Sometimes they don’t have any idea and we take them step by step through all the options from golds for the setting to diamond cuts and color,” Ryan explains. “Most of the time though they have a pretty good idea what they’re looking for. From start to finish we listen, help them feel comfortable, and really build that trust. We put our best foot forward and because of that we’re confident that couples will return after she says yes and for years to come after that.” Chances are you won’t need to look long to find the perfect ring at Riddle’s. An industry leader in jewelry technology Riddle’s designs settings with their exclusive Noventa Diamonds cut at their headquarters in Rapid City, South Dakota. If you are looking to enhance your natural glow and feel your absolute best in your skin on your wedding day, look no further than Kharma Vida Wellness Spa. Owner Andi Thon Emerson and her experienced and knowledgeable team have created an incredible space and experience to melt the stress of wedding planning away and guarantee you have all the confidence in the world on your wedding day.

The Beginning

beauty prep

Kharma Vida began out of necessity. After the spa she was working at closed abruptly, Andi and a few co-workers saw a continued need for the services offered, and they wanted to continue to work together. So, Andi took matters into her own hands and things moved at light speed. “I went to my bank and asked for help starting a business. We found our current location on the same day our previous spa closed, and we were up and running in two weeks’ time!” Andi explains. “Everything just fell into place.”

What’s In a Name? When asked why the name Kharma Vida, Andi had this to say, “The name Kharma Vida is a combination of words/ concepts that I love. Karma essentially is the concept that your actions or intent will determine the future. Vida means ‘life.’ The two combined, along with our beautiful logo, all just fits!”

What’s The Plan? What Kharma Vida offers their clients covers many areas so you may be asking yourself ‘Where do I start?!’ Andi has put together a recommended plan for leading up to your wedding day. She suggests the timeline below to get the most out of your treatments and ensure that beautiful glow both inside and out on your big day:

Andi Thon Emerson | Kharma Vida www.kharmavida.com

6 months before: Peel series of 6 3 months before: Emsculpt Treatments (Consultation required) 1 month before: Full set of lash extensions 2 weeks before: Back Peel Week of the Wedding: 50-minute massage, Lash Fill, Red Light Therapy, Oxygen Bar Brides aren’t the only ones Kharma Vida caters to leading up to their wedding day. Tim Ell, owner of Zorells Jewelry, is no stranger to the diamond industry. With life experience and incredible passion for his craft, Tim has built Zorells Jewelry into an experience you will never forget. "Our goal is to give each and every woman what we call the glass slipper moment. When she slides that ring on her finger, and it's the thing that she's always dreamt of, her Cinderella moment, her happily ever after," says Tim smiling. Zorells Jewelry is an experience from the moment you walk in, to the moment they ring the bells for you, but it doesn't stop there. After that special moment of gifting a Zorells piece of jewelry, you return for your Wine and Shine moment to make your piece sparkle again. Getting your jewelry cleaned can sometimes feel like a chore, but not at Zorells. When you stop in to get your jewelry cleaned it is an experience like none other. You will be “Wine and Shined” with a complimentary mimosa or glass of wine as you wait. Maybe it has been a long day so you sit at their elegant bar while you wait, or maybe you want to stroll around the store and find that next perfect piece. Either way, the “Wine and Shine” experience at Zorells makes that mundane task of cleaning your jewelry anything but boring. “It is our way of spoiling you even after the sale!” exclaims Tim.

Wine & Shine Who said getting your jewelry cleaned was boring? Not us! Only at Zorells, when you stop in to get your jewelry cleaned you will be "Wine and Shined"® with a complimentary glass of wine or mimosa while you relax at our Wine and Shine® bar. Then, our professional jewelers will inspect, polish and shine your jewelry to perfection. It is our way of spoiling you even after the sale!

Wedding Bells of Zorells Zorells Jewelry invites you to embark on a journey of love and elegance as you walk through their doors and are invited by the warmth of luxury and hospitality. Every part of Zorells Jewelry is an experience from the moment you walk in to the ringing of the bells as you leave with your new ring. “When my first son was born, I remember hearing a lullaby playing in the hospital. It played in every room signaling a baby was born. It gives me goosebumps still thinking about it today,” says Tim. “I knew I wanted to give our customers that same experience. Tim decided to erect a tower outside their store with bells, “The Wedding Bells of Zorells.” Any time an engagement ring is purchased the bells ring throughout the store and outside audible for blocks, giving his customers the same “goosebump” feeling.

Photography in and of itself is an artform of storytelling, and Taylar Fridrich of Taylar Dawn Photography wants to tell the story of your wedding day. “I live for documenting love, laughter, and passion,” Taylar explains. What bride doesn’t want those things captured forever via photography from her wedding day? Taylar’s unique eye for detail, easy way of connecting with her couples, and bold, vibrant photography make her a perfect choice for one of life’s most important days.

Taylar’s passion for photography not only fuels her career but also her desire to make a meaningful impact within her community. Motivated by her love for dogs, she decided to utilize her talents to make a difference. “I love using my lens to advocate for causes near to my heart. I collaborate with local animal shelters to help raise funds and awareness, aiming to increase the chances of adoption for pets in need. A percentage of every photoshoot booked, goes back to local animal shelters. It’s not just about taking beautiful pictures; it’s about leveraging my art to give back to my community and make a difference in these animals lives.” Taylar explains.

It’s important for Taylar to get to know her couples, and a great way for her to do that is through her complimentary engagement session. “Think of your engagement session as a date night but with a friend tagging along. Whether it’s a champagne picnic in a field or grabbing a six-pack and a pizza, I’m there to get to know them and capture a few special moments,” Taylar says of her engagement shoots. This more relaxed time allows Taylar to get to know the couple in a more informal way and to help the couple feel more comfortable in front of the camera. This session not only guarantees some great images for save-the-dates and/ or invitations, it also ensures that couples will have one less thing to stress about when it comes to their wedding day. “It helps them know that they can trust me, that they’re in good hands, and I’ve got them,” says Taylar.

Support Along the Way Taylar is not just your photographer for your engagement session and your wedding day. She prides herself on being a resource (her Bride Guide and VIP vendor list are incredible), a planner, and an expert in day-of timelines. She’s detail-oriented and thrives on the beautiful chaos of weddings, so your only job will be to have fun and soak in all the incredible moments of your wedding day that she’ll capture, of course! “I'm not just the person behind the camera. Couples are investing in me, the woman who will capture every moment of their special day as if it were her own memories, love story, family and friend’s memories being preserved,” Taylar explains. “For every ounce of time and trust couples place in me, I’m committed to returning that investment tenfold when capturing their love story.” To learn even more about Taylar and her passion not only for photography but life as well, be sure to visit her website, taylardawnphotography.com. It is well done, creative, and tells an incredible story, just like Taylar’s timeless photography.
