AIOP Vancouver is extremely pleased to partner with Business in Vancouver to host the Commercial Real Estate Awards of Excellence Gala on May 30, 2012 at the Four Seasons Hotel. The event will recognize excellence in Commercial Real Estate within the Metro Vancouver area for the 2010 and 2011 calendar years. The awards recognize the full range of disciplines involved in creating successful real estate solutions, while highlighting the leadership role played by property owners, developers and professional advisors. Boughton Law, and NAIOP Vancouver board member, is our Awards Gala chair, and has worked diligently with Business in Vancouver and NAIOP Vancouver staff to organize this event. Jill Krop of Global TV will be the Gala Master of Ceremonies. Our panel of judges included several well-known and highly respected NAIOP Vancouver members, each of whom possess diverse backgrounds in Metro Vancouver and North American markets. Industrial Lease: five finalists; judging criteria included complexity, innovation, market impact, and creativity of the transaction to meet the objectives of landlord and/or tenant. Industrial Development: three finalists; judging criteria included quality, functionality, leasing, sustainability, innovation, and financial performance of the project. Office Lease: five finalists; judging criteria included complexity, innovation, market impact and creativity of the transaction to meet the objectives of the landlord and tenant. Office Development: five finalists; judging criteria included quality, functionality, leasing, sustainability, innovation and financial performance of the project. Investment Transaction: five finalists; judging criteria included complexity of the project, market impact, innovation and creativity of the transaction to meet the objectives of all parties involved.
Developing Leader: three finalists; judging criteria included a leader under 35 years of age who during the calendar years 2010/2011 showed exemplary leadership in the commercial real estate industry and who contributed to the industry in a significant way. I would like to acknowledge the vital role which NAIOP members and the commercial real estate industry play in our economy. A recent study conducted by the University of British Columbia Sauder School of Business, Centre for Urban Economics and Real Estate, indicate that NAIOP members generate more than $9.6 billion in economic activity and more than $4.5 billion in GDP to the local economy, including the contribution of Port Metro Vancouver. In addition, NAIOP members were responsible for the creation of over 200,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs in the Lower Mainland.
