One topic which has been frequently requested for discussion is Women in Business, and this show is available on the Air Malta in-flight system. The show addresses the very real challenges still impacting women in business today. Recent statistics show that across Europe the pay gap is 13% in favour of men who occupy the same positions, slightly better in Malta with the pay gap sitting at 10%. 38% of women have experienced h arassment in the workplace, nearly 70% of women accepted the salary they were offered without negotiating, while only 52% of men did the same. On The SHE Word ‘Women in Business’, three prominent local business women discuss their journeys to C-level roles in a competitive and male dominated landscape.

One of the show’s guests Titziana Ceci, General Manager at Malta's largest and most recognisable retail pharmacy chain, Brown’s, offers empowering advice for Women in Business; "One of the things women need to do is to understand what we are strong at to persevere to do that; and for the things we are weaker at, we have to surround ourselves with people that make up for our weaknesses. This will allow us to be strong where we are strong." Titziana goes on to speak very clearly about modern day challenges for the woman who wants to follow her career dreams, and when asked why and she believes women represent less than 5% of CEOs around the world, to outline what she has been doing at Brown’s to bring about very real change. Tiziana not only works with a predominantly female workforce, she is doing all she can to empower female employees to take on responsibilities and believe in themselves. She has worked hard to create a company structure at Brown’s which is supported by a female dominant management team which brings many tangible benefits to the company culture.

This month, Brown’s celebrates it’s 25th Anniversary. It is Malta's largest and most recognisable retail pharmacy group. Established in 1998 by two pharmacists and long-time friends, Robert Spiteri and Alexander Fenech, who were brought together in business through a shared passion for a customer centric approach and a vision of creating a business culture where like-minded people can flourish and grow the business as a result.

Keeping with this theme of focus on people, Brown’s supports a wide range of community, communication and environment-based projects across the Maltese Islands, enriching local lives far beyond the pharmacy counter.
