publisher’s letter It is my belief that women should be celebrated as often as possible. Ladies, I thought this poem by the late and great Maya Angelou would serve as a wonderful reminder of how PHENOMENAL you are. So shine bright queen. Shine bright. -Chida Rebecca
Phenomenal Woman By Maya Angelou Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size But when I start to tell them, They think I’m telling lies. I say, It’s in the reach of my arms, The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees.
I say, It’s the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth, The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. Men themselves have wondered What they see in me. They try so much But they can’t touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them, They say they still can’t see. I say, It’s in the arch of my back, The sun of my smile, The ride of my breasts, The grace of my style. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. Now you understand Just why my head’s not bowed. I don’t shout or jump about Or have to talk real loud. When you see me passing, It ought to make you proud. I say, It’s in the click of my heels, The bend of my hair, the palm of my hand, The need for my care. ’Cause I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me.

In honor of women’s history month we asked some of our readers to
describe being a
Black woman... What makes them most proud about being her?
TINICIA TEE SMITH “Being a Black Woman is LIFE. A Black woman births beautiFULL Black children, and ideas, the type of ideas that ensure the best life for heir children. I am most proud about the strength that I am able to exhibit as a Black woman. Being able to balance marriage, motherhood, and career as well as being a business owner who is involved in the betterment of the community. The cards were not dealt in a Black Woman’s favor however, I have taken the hand that I have been dealt and ran an Boston on life. I am Loving how I’m Living.”
SHANI ANDERSON “I would best describe my journey as being a black woman in the word STRENGTH! Every single day I’m faced with obstacles that are designed and meant to break me however, day after day I stand tall while many days internally feeling shattered. I choose to smile instead of cry. A young ashamed mother and college drop out I was told by many I would fail and be just another statistic. The strength within me used it as fuel and regardless what brick I was forced to carry I did it with what appeared to be ease. Forced throughout my life’s journey to wear multiple hats made it even more challenging but the God I serve picked me up when I felt I had nothing left, refueled my strength and has never left my side. Even in my brokenness I’m STRENGTH! First and foremost the phenomenal woman that came before me, building the foundation while displaying strength on a level that was hard to fathom as a child. Defying all the odds and labels this country puts on “being black” and taking pride in my ability to be strong while feeling broken, to be positive while feeling sad and being an inspiration to so many even in my broken spaces. I feel most proud that my internal strength as a black woman allows me to be humble yet confident and secure enough to stand in ALL of ME, regardless what others may think!”
NONI WATSON
“I can see that I’m Black when I look in the mirror, when I show up to the office or when I go out into the world. My Blackness is powerful and the culture I come from is complex and deserves respect. I’m inspired to show up fully as myself in all rooms I enter, be it a boardroom or a bedroom. Being a Black Woman is being attentive to my culture, to my brothers, sisters and ultimately to my community. A lot of my coming-of-age and being proud to be a Black Woman was unpacking and eliminating some of those mental chains, and redefining what is true for me, and what is beautiful. My voice is loud and it’s bold and I try to use it for good. I truly believe if you don’t use your gift, it’s going to go away. I was like, “Noni, you better use it. And use it to serve.” So, my way of doing that was creating random affirmations (#noniism) vis Instagram and Facebook that have helped me follow the trail on the path of my life. I am proud of what I can contribute to my culture, brothers, sisters and community as a Black Woman on #noniism at a time.”
ADELE WILLIAMS “Knowing the lineage from our Black origins, I wouldn't want to be anything else but a Black Woman. We come from royalty, Kings & Queens whose heritage and riches expands beyond what is portrayed in movies and TV. In truth, the hardships we have endured as Black Women have made us the resilient, strong, innovative and intelligent women we are today. We are entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, professors, athletes, students, mothers, daughters, sisters, friends... truth be told there are people in other races spending big money to look like us, and that stems from their admiration (whether secret or not) of us... there's no other woman I'd rather be than a Black Woman... period.

“Recently I was asked why I often used African-American females in my work. My initial response was along the lines of, ‘I paint what I know’. But as I continued to think about it, I realized that I paint the black female because to me, it is the ultimate tool of expression. The female figure in general, is a familiar reference, with a built in dictionary—gestures and expressions equal certain meanings. It can evoke a variety of ideas simply by being “illustrated”— even if the artist’s intention was to present only one. The black female figure embodies all that and so much more. My work often explores the
myriad of tones and colors found in their skin, the multitude of textures present in their hair, the fullness of their features and the suppleness of their figures to create images full of emotion, strength, beauty, and power. My work is not just about honoring the physical beauty of the black female, it does, in fact, reveal how the elements of her loveliness become tools to define, reveal, and illustrate a much richer beauty that lives beyond, beneath, and un-anchored by the physical characteristics of her flesh. My work is beautiful and strong; illuminating what is truly beautiful about the black female. . . Visit her online at www.sa-creatives.com

early every student in the United States learns about Sacagawea, the remarkable Shoshone woman who accompanied Lewis and Clark from the Northern Plains through the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean and back – all while carrying her infant in a papoose!
A History of Caring
More than two centuries later, Sacagawea’s descendant, Sacajawea Patrick, is making her own journey through unchartered territory – fostering toddlers through Angels Foster Family Network. It wasn’t her foremother who inspired her to foster, though. The single mother of two teens of her own says she has wanted to serve as a foster parent since she was a little girl. “Where I grew up families always had foster kids and they weren’t always treated so well, so they came over to our house,” she recalls. “Our home was a wonderful place. My father even built a basketball court at our house so all of the children in the neighborhood could come over and play. Sacajawea says she used to love reading to the little children and teaching them sign language. by Jennifer Coburn
Sacajawea Patrick
When Sacajawea was seven years old, she saw a film on the life of Josephine Baker and her “Rainbow Tribe” of adopted children and she knew fostering was her calling. “I told my parents ‘That’s going to be me,’ and they told me they didn’t doubt it for a minute,” she says, sitting in her living room, a warm, homey space with stuffed animals and games bursting from toy chests. There are two brand-new tricycles with shiny streamers spouting from the handle bars for the toddler twins, a brother and sister, who have been with her and her teens Shannon, 16, and Sacajawea, 13, for more than a year. “These children are so full of pureness and joy,” Sacajawea says with a sigh. “It just shows everything that’s good in the world.” Sacajawea said she was pleasantly surprised to find that she was eligible to foster as a single mother. “I am blessed with a good job and a home, but I thought it was a requirement that I had to be married. I’m glad it’s not because I treat these children like my own
and they brighten my day.” Her teens are equally committed to fostering. “They are well-mannered children who are very helpful to me and consider these kids their siblings.” This is not to say fostering is easy. Each case is different and children may have medical or emotional issues. And sometimes navigating the relationship with biological family can be challenging. Sacajawea has had her share of bumps along the road, but says Angels Foster Family Network has supported her every step of the way. In addition to ongoing education and support groups for foster parents, the agency provides each family with a clinical case manager who is available to answer questions or address concerns round the clock. Despite the challenges, Sacajawea continues fostering because she knows she’s making a difference in the lives of young children and that makes it worth the effort. And if anyone knows how to make her way through difficult terrain it’s Sacajawea. It’s in her blood.

5 tips for your next road trip
Staff Writer Are you planning a classic American road trip? With a tank of gas, the right attitude and some smart supplies, you can explore amazing locales on a budget. "The great American road trip is still very much alive, and we're not just talking long endurance cross-country trips. Places you can go from your own hometown and return on just one tank of gas," said Peter Greenberg, Emmy-award-winning producer, writer, radio broadcaster and TV correspondent. "If travel can be defined as an experience that is absolutely meant to be shared, then the road trip is still very high on my list. It offers shared adventure, shared experience and shared storytelling."
1
Start planning your next affordable road trip with these smart tips and tricks: Discover one-tank destinations
You only need one day to get away, so research destinations you can get to on one tank of gas. This keeps fuel costs down, and because you don’t need to stay overnight, you won’t have to budget for a hotel. People tend to forget the beautiful spots just a few hours away from home, so bring a map and see which direction catches your attention.

Fill up the tires Of course you’ll want to check your fluid levels, wiper blades, and spare tire before you leave. One of the best ways to maximize your vehicle’s fuel efficiency is to make sure tires are properly inflated. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, you can improve your gas mileage by 0.6 percent on average and up to 3 percent in some cases simply by keeping your tires inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure.
Strive for high mpg
Some cars have better fuel economy than others. With a practical design and impressive fuel efficiency, the Toyota Corolla Hatchback is ideal for road trip adventures. Getting up to an EPA-estimated 42 mpg on the highway, you won’t have to limit your road trip due to fuel cost concerns. Plus the roomy design makes it easy to get comfortable and enjoy the ride. Learn more at www.toyota.com. Create Comfort Remember the journey should be as much fun as the destination. Clean out your car, make sure windows are sparkling clean to take in the views, pack car-friendly snacks and drinks, and bring along cozy pillows or blankets. Technology can create comfort, so charge those digital devices and utilize your vehicle’s features. For example, the Corolla Hatchback has Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa Connectivity, so podcasts, music and directions are always ready.
5
Pack smart Whether you're on an impromptu or well-planned road trip, you can ease costs and streamline fun by packing wisely. Sunscreen, sunglasses and comfortable shoes are must-haves for any road trip. After all, you never know what adventures will come your way. Consider packing sandwiches - the ultimate road trip food - which are great for eating in the car or on a picnic so you don't have to buy full meals.
"Some of my most amazing travel memories are from one tank road trips," Greenberg said. "I think everyone should make these excursions part of their travel plans. They are fun, affordable and great for people of all ages."
Can Chemistry
Be Developed Over Time?
Marshaun Olaniyan Life & Relationship Strategist
Can chemistry be developed over time with your partner/date? Chemistry is an emotion you feel for someone that makes you think “I need to see him/her again”. That feeling you get when you two “click.” Yes. Chemistry can and should be built over time.
1. The initial chemistry is not an indicator of what the future holds. It’s not! You think you can tell by this initial meeting or maybe if you are sexually attracted to the person. Then you jump ahead and think this person is very intellectual based off the conversation, next you think, “Oh my! I can work with him or her.” But, slow down. The initial chemistry that you feel or don’t feel is not an indicator of how your future will unfold. For example, my brother’s wife (my sister-in-law) was not feeling my brother. He, of course, did the chase and eventually wore her down. She wasn’t into him at all. You know how you meet someone and it’s just “okay.” Now they have a thriving, wonderful relationship with 4 kids. I’ve heard several stories like this from my clients. Even in my own relationship, I didn’t believe my now husband was into me. Our first date was good, but there were no butterflies or stars within my eyes. After continuing to see him, getting to know him, and appreciate him and what he brings to my life, I fell for him and he fell for me. Our chemistry and attraction grew over time. I also hear clients say the guy or girl they had the most attraction and chemistry with did not meet their requirements over time or they felt as though something was missing.
2. You may be stressed or preoccupied. Once you relax you can focus and chemistry can ensue. When you first go out on these dates you want to be the other person’s “type” whether you admit this verbally or not. In whichever manner you met the person, either online or when you were out and about having that initial conversation, you want to be their type. You are meeting them face-to-face. It’s time for the conversation, you will think, “Are they going to like me?” Or something could’ve happened just before you two are supposed to meet for the date. You’re not in the best mood but you don’t want to cancel the date, so you may have been preoccupied about things and may have come off the wrong way. Your date may be going through something, as well, and they didn’t want to cancel the date either. Then you are in your head thinking, “Was the date good or not?” Find a way to do something so you can shake all of those things off of you, such as prayer, meditation, or laughing out loud, so you can show up as your best self. This will help to reset you so you can showcase the real you while on the date. Because if you are being your true self then more than likely your date will like you. Throw your representative in the trash. While dating and building a relationship, you really want to do that with the right person.
3. These feelings come and go depending on your partner’s behavior. This chemistry can ebb and flow. It can come and go depending on your partner’s behavior. Sometimes you want to smack your partner (of course I don’t recommend that). But sometimes you feel this way because of their demeaning attitude. The chemistry seems more critical in the dating stages because you thought you two were doing good, but something happens and then you are confused. Understand that this is a part of a relationship and life. You have to learn how to deal with these things IF you think they are a potential winner and they have bad days once in a while.
4. Be prepared to give it a short amount of time to build but no more than 6 dates. Yes, 6 dates. I can hear the record scratching now. I say 6 dates because all that nervous energy should be down to a minimum by then. You would know if you want to continue seeing them after 6 dates and if you want to make the relationship exclusive or not. This should naturally occur whether it is verbalized or not. This gives things time to build up such as building up the connection. Building up the intimacy. Building up the flirting. Build up everything. Cutting someone off on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd date because things didn’t go right or they were a bit awkward or you felt there was a lot of dead space or silence there… is not giving the other person a fair chance.
Sometimes people are overly nervous and they may think you are the finest person they’ve ever seen or been out on a date with, so you are making them nervous. Instead of them coming off as innocent, sweet, cute, or adorable you are becoming irritated. So if you initially found this person to be physically attractive, held a conversation with him or her eventually leading to a date, then give it the 6 dates to build up, so things can flow, and you both are in your natural state. How will you make sure your chemistry can build over time? Can you be critical of the person without giving them a fair chance to show up as their authentic self? Have you noticed the ebbs and flows within the chemistry in your own relationship or previous relationships? Will you test the 6 dates out before giving up? What can you do today to turn things around for you, especially, if you are currently on the fence about continuing to see him or her?

ays to empower omen in your community
Staff Writer Female entrepreneurs make up approximately 1/3 of all entrepreneurs worldwide, and it's always a great time to highlight, support and applaud women in business, in your community and across the globe. Here are a few easy ways you can celebrate and support businesswomen and female entrepreneurs.
entrepreneurs? (If you don't, do a little online research to find some.) Go out of your way to shop at their location, refer friends and family members to their businesses and be sure to let them know that you support their efforts in your community. Give them a boost by posting a positive review of their business on social media. Helping female-owned businesses thrive is a great way to empower women in your own backyard.
Shop women-owned businesses. Know about a restaurant, shop or service-oriented business in your area that's owned and operated by women
Mentor women and girls in your industry. Find ways to offer female students and younger employees a chance to learn more about edu-
cational and employment opportunities in your own field. Contact career counselors at high schools or local colleges and offer to let students shadow you at work, or give them a chance to do an informational interview with you to learn more about your business. Help them get connected within your business network and share your experiences. If your employer is willing, develop an internship or on-the-job training program to encourage and empower up-and-coming women in your industry. Support companies actively involved in projects that empower women. Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S. and Dove Chocolate have pledged $1 million to CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, specifically to empower women in West Africa. Dove Chocolate and CARE partnered to empower women in the cocoa growing communities of Cote d'Ivoire after an assessment of women's involvement in West African cocoa farms found that women were not benefiting from cocoa production, even though they participate in more than half of cocoa-farming activities. The first stone was recently laid on a new marketplace for women-led businesses in the village of Gueyo, a centrally located commerce area nestled among the cocoa fields of Cote d'Ivoire. Consumers can help support these efforts, as $5 will be donated to CARE with every online purchase of qualifying Dove Chocolate Promises. This year, find special ways to celebrate and support the women in your neighborhood and around the world who are working hard to create better lives for themselves, their families and their communities.
5 ways to create an inviting room using tile
Staff Writer Today's tile trends extend so far beyond their traditional use as a staple of bathroom design that you may not recognize them. While once the most attractive and innovative tiles had to be imported, contemporary handcrafted tile and stone products for home design are now being made right here in the United States. Homeowners and interior designers alike are always seeking distinctive visual touches to make each home special. Here are five ways tile design can enhance a room. Elevate small spaces. Use tiles interchangeably to create a unique design. The Ann Sacks Radius Collection by designer Barbara Barry has five distinct modular designs that can be used independently, or combined to create patterns to delight the eye. Creative use of a variety of tile shapes like these can easily elevate small spaces such as baseboards, fireplace surrounds or backsplash areas in a kitchen. Make a color statement. Whether you choose a single color or mix colors to create a pattern, the choices can overwhelm. "I enjoy the soft juxtaposition of watery blue tones, soft green tones and the neutral colors of gravel," explained Barry. While Barry is known for her love of soft colors, you may choose colors that best complement elements already in the room. If you're not working with a designer, consider traditional complementary color pairs when making decor choices, such as redgreen, blue-orange or yellow-purple. Create a calm mood. The latest trends in interior design reflect the desire for homes to be sanctuaries. Inspired by the clean lines, appropriate scale and exacting proportion prevalent in Midcentury Modern architectural design, Barry describes her collection as "soft modern, defined by a curved edge for a sensual feel." Barry adds, "In this busy world, I want to come home to calm rooms and quiet spaces." Choosing colors, lines, shapes and scale with simplicity in mind can help contribute to a feeling of calm.
Personalize your space. Find what appeals to you, and work with a designer or manufacturer who can meet your requests. In her collection, Barry provides tools for consumers or designers to customize patterns. Designed to spark the imagination, five distinct patterns in varying scales punctuate interiors with personality. Smaller manufacturers can personalize your project with their flexibility, customizing color choices and resurrecting a retired pattern or color, or even by recreating tiles present in a home refurbishing or renovating project. Make your space your own. Create visual interest. Choose different textures through materials like wood, glass or tile to break up an otherwise ordinary surface in a room. Radius is available in all Made by Ann Sacks matte and gloss colorways, which can be installed as a singular color statement or mixed to evoke a unique, personalized design, whether to create a captivating statement-making wall or to cover an entire floor. The choice of tile adds a textural element to a room that can't be duplicated by any other material. Ann Sacks fell in love with tile while on a family vacation to Mexico when she was 13, and later used that passion to create a business inspired by those Mexican tiles. She hired gifted artisans to grow her business into a true American success story. Ann Sacks, founded in 1981 in Portland, Oregon, draws talented craftspeople to create inspiring designs in tile, stone, plumbing, lighting and accessories. These creations are traditional in terms of craft, but aligned with contemporary design trends. Today, the company includes the work of 15 designers. Whether you choose to use tile in a more traditional way in your bath or kitchen, or to elevate another space inside a home with a more innovative style, use a customized design and select colors to create a unique environment anyone would want to call home.

Ways to make your outside wedding even more special your tableware and special centerpieces. Choose colors to complement your reception's theme and floral arrangements or any other decor.
Staff Writer While it's been popular in the past to bring the outdoors inside using trees and floral arrangements, a recent trend for many wedding venues is to create a homey space outdoors. Guests don't need to rough it just because you've chosen to host your ceremony or reception outside. Your outdoor venue can become more comfortable, as well as more stylish, with just a little help from Rental HQ. 1. Cover your chairs. Seating can be made more comfortable and look much more elegant than you might expect, whether your venue is a park, a beach or a backyard. All it takes is stylish chair covers, which can be easily rented to accommodate any size wedding. 2. Dress up your tables. Rented linens provide an essential touch of class to any outdoor venue, setting the right stage for
3. Protect against the elements. Plan for the time of year in your area and you can weather almost any circumstances. Even if the forecast is warm and sunny, you'll still want a tent and/or table umbrellas, if not to safeguard against a possible shower, to tame the sunshine. You can even rent misting fans to help your guests stay cool. The outdoor wedding section of Rental HQ is a great place to get ideas and research your options. 4. Provide a foundation. A variety of flooring will ensure the safety of the bride's train and sure footing, even for those sporting heels. Rentable floor mats and decking can help guests navigate the terrain from the parking lot to the venue. Multiple choices include tiles, carpet, turf or even a portable dance floor that can turn your backyard into a nightclub. 5. Light up the night. For an evening outdoor event, stringing lights or lanterns is often insufficient. You'll want your guests to be able to see - and photograph - your special day. Renting adequate uplighting for your nighttime reception is a mustdo. Focus on important areas such as the dance floor, the table where the cake will be presented, buffet tables or special floral arrangements. Choose LED lighting spe-
cially made for outdoor events, which is waterproof and will not create too much heat. You can choose different colors to create magical effects. 6. Homey furniture. Consider renting a few couches or comfy chairs to create a seating area where older family members can gather and greet guests, or your tired bride or groom can put up their feet for a few minutes while they chat with family and friends. Stage the area with a coffee table set up with the guest book so guests can sit comfortably while they jot their well wishes to the married couple. Any outdoor wedding can be made special, no matter what the decor. To find a rental store near you or to research furnishings, lighting or other equipment you might need, visit the wedding section on RentalHQ.com. Planning for your special day is easier than you think with all of the right tools at your fingertips.

CBD CBD-related products are changing the beauty industry
Staff Writer Short for cannabidiol, CBD is grabbing headlines every day. Long known to be a beneficial ingredient for health and wellness, now it's coming to the beauty industry. Why is it grabbing headlines? Because of its anti-inflammatory, soothing and anti-aging properties, which make the oil an ideal solution to transform your beauty routine, from hair products to lotions to facial oils. If you're thinking, "Wait, cannabis? That's marijuana, right?" Wrong. Though it is found in cannabis, it is legal, it won't get you high and you will pass your drug test with flying colors. That's because it does not contain THC, the ingredient in cannabis that produces the "high" effect. Still confused? Kevin Wachs, CEO and co-founder of Earthly Body, offers some of the beauty areas where this oil is having the biggest impact. Super skin care We already know that inflammation can spell serious skin woes, but what you might not know is that CBD's anti-inflammatory properties can do wonders to help soothe low-level irritation. The oil, such as CBD Daily's Serum, moisturizes and soothes skin thanks to the high levels of Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids it contains. These acids deliver
important nutrients to the skin while protecting against environmental and other daily stressors. Additionally, the oil works to soothe sore muscles and aches. Happy hair Earthly Body's Emera CBD Haircare line is the first professional haircare line infused with CBD. This, along with other oils, is loaded with essential fatty acids so it helps to keep hair well hdyrated. It also helps to regulate hair loss and control dry hair and scalp conditions. In doing so, it encourages hair growth and promotes overall healthy hair. "CBD promotes healthy hair growth and good scalp health and protects your hair from daily environmental stresses because it is antioxidant rich," Wachs said. "It also strengthens your hair and reduces breakage thanks to the high levels of amino acids and offers color protection thanks to tyrosine, too." In addition, due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it works to calm and nourish beneath the surface by deeply penetrating and conditioning in conjunction with a blend of ingredients like lemon grass, chamomile and Japanese matcha green tea. The new look of beauty products The beauty industry is constantly changing, and as new products and trends enter the market, CBD-related solutions are poised to dominate. LIFE HAPPENS: TAX TIPS FOR THE BUSIEST AMERICANS (BPT) - As tax season pushes on, millions of Americans have yet to file their taxes. While reasons for waiting to do so range from a fear of owing money, to not having the proper paperwork, take solace in the fact that if you still haven't filed your taxes, you're not alone. In fact, previous research from H&R Block shows that 57 percent of Americans say they've lost sleep or sacrificed free time on the weekends just so they could deal with tax preparation. Regardless of individual reasons for waiting to file, there are ways to ensure the process goes smoothly, whether you choose to go it alone, or seek out expert help. And because 2019 represents the first tax season under reform, it pays to be especially diligent this year. So, what are the options for the busy Americans who want help with their taxes, but don't have the time or flexibility to get into a tax office? The nation's tax professionals often begin with a seemingly simple piece of advice, which can pay dividends over time: Get organized now. Organizing the necessary information is going to make tax time so much smoother, no matter how you
choose to undertake it. Get all your important tax documents together in one place as they come in. Missing tax documents can lead to missing out on tax benefits you're entitled to claim. If you need a little extra help with documents, hop online. The internet is full of free resources, like the tax prep checklist on hrblock.com. For those who don't want to see the inside of a tax office, but want the comfort of expert help, technology again stands as a strong option. Karen Orosco is a senior vice president at H&R Block, and she said technology can be one of the greatest helps for time-crunched Americans this tax season. "H&R Block Tax Pro Go is designed for clients who want
help from a tax expert, but also want the convenience of not having to visit a tax office," Orosco said. "If you or your tax pro have a question, you can connect and share additional information using our secure online portal, email or even talk on the phone if you prefer. There's no office visit, no preparing your own return, just upload your documents, sit back and we'll take care of the rest." Another concern often raised by time-conscious Americans regards the size of their tax refund, especially under reform. The biggest piece of advice being given by the nation's tax professionals this year is in reference to the W-4. If you don't like what happened with your refund this year, you can take steps to help see it doesn't happen next year - one way is by updating your withholding with your employer. Tax season presents a great time to make that update, because it requires a lot of the same information that goes on your W-4. It's also good to make these updates at the start of the year so the changes are stretched out over your paychecks for a longer period. Orosco also presented another point for seeing a change in one's refund: Individuals may see refund benefits by contributing to a traditional IRA. "Individuals may potentially increase their refund or decrease the amount they owe by contributing to a traditional IRA," Orosco said. "You have
up until the April 15 deadline to contribute and reap the potential benefits. H&R Block tax professionals can provide expert guidance for clients when they file their 2018 tax returns." The final piece of important advice may seem obvious, or even simple, but bears repeating year over year. Americans need to keep their life in mind, especially as large changes like having a child, purchasing a home or starting a new job can truly alter one's tax situation. Life changes typically mean tax changes, so when something significant changes, it may be a good idea to consider getting expert help. If you want to be matched up with your own tax professional this year, it's easy, it'll save you time and it just might make your refund even better. You can go to hrblock.com/taxprogo to get matched with an expert tax pro and see your price.

Setting up your home office for efficiency Staff Writer So, you've been running your business from your home for some time now, and with the busy holiday season upon us, you find yourself overwhelmed, stressed and your office is a mess. When running a business, there are so many things you need to think about to maximize efficiency, from having a clean setup to ensuring that you are well equipped with the supplies you need to get things done. First things first. To help increase productivity and get things started, it's time to tidy up your space. Start by going through any old files you may have and determining whether you really need them, then get rid of things that no longer are relevant. Next, start organizing and getting your layout set. Arrange your space in a way that is functional and will ensure that you are able to access the things you need easily, like your phone and computer.
Once your office is cleaned up, it's time to take a step back and ensure that your office is equipped with the latest equipment and stocked up on supplies. Your technology and hardware are key components to running things efficiently, so making sure your computer and peripherals are up to date will be crucial. A printer is a critical component in your home office setup and it's important that it is compatible with the latest technology and that there is enough ink to fulfill your business needs. When it comes to smoothly running your business, there are many things you need to help maximize productivity, and replenishing office supplies should not be a worry. As it is, the holidays are a stressful time, and buying office supplies is an added stress you don't need on your list. Say you need to print an important document for a meeting and you're alerted that you are low on ink, but you are completely out, and you don't have time to get to the store to replace it. According to a new independent study from YouGov, 57 percent of Americans find that it's a pain to buy new cartridges for a printer. That is where a replenishment service comes in. Having your items delivered right to your doorstep will help alleviate the time it would
take to do this on your own and eliminate the guesswork in knowing when you need to stock up on supplies. In fact, over one-third of Americans think that ink and toner replenishment is a good idea. All you need to do is enroll in the service and you are guaranteed to get your items right when you need them. You don't even have to know what model your printer is and what kind of cartridge it takes. Services like Amazon Dash, Brother Refresh and Best Buy Easy Replenish allow customers to quickly and easily replace their ink and toner without having to think about it. "Running out of ink is always frustrating but it's especially infuriating when it happens at an inconvenient time, like when you are in a rush to get a print out," said Rafi Haqqani, Marketing Director, Brother Genuine Supplies and Auto-Fulfillment at Brother. "Through our Refresh service, we are helping office users run their business more efficiently by removing the bottlenecks and stress that comes with running out of ink and toner." Get your office set up right and your supplies and equipment in order so you can get your work done efficiently and enjoy your time with the family.
