Dear Neighbors,

The holidays are a time for honoring traditions: tree lighting ceremonies, giving to those less fortunate, and pretending to love your aunt’s famous fruit cake. But it’s also a time for forging new traditions. Signing up for a charity run? Traveling to a new destination? Don’t be afraid to shake things up—the end of the year is when legends are made.

This month’s featured Blackhawk cover story features the Nijor Family.

On behalf of all of us on the Blackhawk Living Magazine team, we want to wish you and yours a very happy holiday season!

Nijors:

Raising a Multicultural Family in Blackhawk

The story of Mikial and his future wife, Jelena, began with a chance encounter on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, inside a men’s clothing store. He was living in San Francisco at the time, while she was an architecture student, balancing work and studies in LA. Their first date in 2009 was memorable and a little out of the ordinary. Mikial was in town for just one day on business, and though she was exhausted from a long day, they decided to meet for a relaxed evening. They found themselves at a Jewish delicatessen in West Hollywood, known for its incredible wine cellar, and what was meant to be low-key turned into one of the best nights of Jelena’s life. “In those few hours, Mikial’s charm and attentiveness made me forget how tired I was and that I had a big test the next day. It was the beginning of something truly special,” says Jelena.

One memorable visit to San Francisco stands out in the love story of Mikial and Jelena. Jelena had only been to San Francisco once before, so when Mikial picked her up from the airport, she was thrilled to see him and catch up. He had a surprise planned, though he kept it a secret, simply driving as they chatted. After about 45 minutes, Jelena says she began to wonder where they were going, “I could see the San Francisco skyline in the rearview mirror, getting smaller and smaller. Half-jokingly, I asked, ‘didn’t you miss the exit or something?’ Mikial just grinned, laughing as he finally revealed the surprise:

we were headed to Napa Valley for a day of wine tasting. The unexpected adventure turned into a perfect day, adding another chapter to our growing story together.” After dating long distance for some time, the couple started their family in Los Angeles in 2010 and ultimately ended up moving to the Bay Area in 2011.

Mikail was born in the heart of San Francisco, a city he grew to love even in his earliest years. At age five, his family relocated to the Central Valley, but the memories of San Francisco stayed with him. In 2000, he was able to return to his favorite city, where the familiar sights and sounds welcomed him back home.

Jelena was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, a city rich with history and tradition from its days as part of the former Yugoslavia. In 2005, she made the life-changing journey to move to the United States.

In 2021, the Nijor family made the move to Blackhawk, a decision sparked by a happy accident. “After unexpectedly discovering the neighborhood, we instantly fell in love with its charm and knew it was the perfect place to call home,” says Jelena.

Mikial spent 15 years as an equities options trader before transitioning into e-commerce, where he discovered a new passion. Today, he’s actively engaged in manufacturing, specializing in kitchen appliances and food products—a career shift he says he thoroughly enjoys. “What makes my journey unique is the progression I’ve experienced, moving from the fast-paced financial markets to the dynamic world of consumer goods and, ultimately, to hands-on product creation and sourcing in manufacturing,” says Mikial.

Architecture has always been Jelena’s passion. “I paused my career when I became a mom, but my love for building and remodeling homes has stayed with me over the years, inspiring me to think about returning to school to finish my

degree. This year, I took that leap, and it feels so exciting to pursue this path. My husband and kids are thrilled to see me doing something I truly love, and I’m grateful for the chance to show them that you can chase your dreams at any stage of life.”

Three boys complete the Nijor family, 13-yearold Landon, 10-year-old Maxim, and 8-yearold Dhilan. Jelena says each boy brings their own special energy to the family, “Landon, the eldest, is in 8th grade and has a real passion for basketball, alongside his piano practice. Maxim and Dhilan both enjoy soccer and share a love for building with Legos and playing with friends. Max, in particular, has a creative side; he loves reading comics and making animated Lego videos. Dhilan is diving into guitar,

exploring his musical talents just like his big brother. Together, these three make a lively and dynamic team, each pursuing their interests while sharing in the fun of family life.”

The family says they share a love for exploring new and diverse destinations, “We love immersing ourselves in different cultures. It’s important to us that our children learn about embracing different customs, languages, traditions, and foods. We want them to understand that even if we don’t always agree with every viewpoint, it’s essential to show respect, especially when we are guests in another country. Our travels have taken us across the globe, from the breathtaking landscapes of New Zealand, including visits to native Maori villages, to the warm shores of Fiji, and the vibrant cities of Japan. We’ve explored the natural beauty of South America, including Chile, Argentina, and the incredible wilderness of Patagonia, where witnessing the Perito Moreno Glacier remains one of our most unforgettable experiences. We’ve also visited Mexico, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Croatia, and Slovenia, each offering unique memories. In the United States, we’ve journeyed through stunning regions like Montana, Wyoming, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. These travels have taught us that despite the world’s differences,

there are universal experiences and emotions that connect us all—our dreams, concerns, joys, and sorrows. We’ve come to appreciate that this world, with all its imperfections, is a beautiful place.”

No matter where their travels take them, they always find a special joy in returning home to Blackhawk, where the sense of community and the beauty of the surroundings make it the perfect place to recharge and reflect on their adventures. “We fell in love with the safety of the neighborhood—it’s wonderful to see kids riding their bikes and walking around freely. We were also drawn to how green and peaceful it is here. We appreciate everything about Blackhawk: the cleanliness, the sense of security, and the genuine kindness of the people. The neighbors are truly the heart of Blackhawk, making it such a special place. Everyone has their own unique story, and I’m always fascinated when I meet someone new from the community. While some say it’s not diverse, I’ve found it to be quite the opposite. I’ve met people from various cultures, religions, and backgrounds, each bringing something unique to the neighborhood. I love strolling down Blackhawk Drive with friends. When we have the time, we enjoy going on hikes together, which also gives us a chance to catch up and share stories,” says Jelena.

UNDERSTANDING

Building a solid brand identity for your local business is the key to long-term success. That said, how do you track the effectiveness of your branding efforts to ensure they are working? Unlike call-to-action campaigns that can be tracked by the number of calls, website visits, or customers walking through the door, branding requires a different measurement style. Let’s take a look at determining your return on investment when it comes to branding your local business:

▶ MEASURING BRAND AWARENESS

Branding helps businesses become more recognizable and memorable in the community. Businesses run branding campaigns to stay top-of-mind with both existing and potential customers, so the next time they’re in need of a product or service, they’ll know who to go to. Consider conducting a survey or gathering feedback from local residents. This will tell you a lot about who’s familiar with your business. Participating in community events can also help increase brand visibility while providing critical insights into how the community views your brand.

925-951-7335

jpeek@bestversionmedia.com

▶ ASSESSING BRAND LOYALTY

Brand loyalty establishes an emotional connection with customers, which leads to a higher lifetime customer value. Look at your retention rates to assess the value of your branding efforts. Brand loyalty often leads to repeat customers, which means spending fewer resources acquiring new customers and more business from regular visitors. Host a loyalty program or special event for your returning customers to further enhance their commitment to your brand.

▶ EVALUATING BRAND EQUITY

Brand equity is best described as the value your brand adds to a product or service. The higher your brand’s equity is, the more trustworthy and reliable you are to potential customers. You can measure brand equity by analyzing how customers view your business compared to competitors. Regularly review online feedback and ratings to provide insights into your brand’s standing in the market. Collaborating with other reputable local businesses also enhances your brand equity and visibility, leading to increased customer trust.

Blackhawk Chorus Updates

Theaward-winning Blackhawk Chorus continues a busy year of Tri-Valley performances. In May the chorus performed two “Classic Broadway” concerts, filled with beloved songs from over 100 years of musical theater. The program included works from prolific songwriters like Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and Stephen Sondheim.

Audiences were treated to a silent auction at each of the May concerts. Patrons bid on–and won–items such as: autographed memorabilia from sports and entertainment celebrities, vacation weekends, food baskets, tickets to upcoming theater performances, and wine tastings (to name just a few). Most auction items were donated by chorus members, or provided by local businesses. And the best part? All proceeds from the auction went directly to the Music Education Fund, created and maintained by the Blackhawk Chorus to directly benefit vocal music programs in our local schools.

The Blackhawk Chorus is set to present its winter concert series, “Now Is the Caroling Season,” on December 13th in Walnut Creek, December 14th in Dublin, and December 15th in Blackhawk. This will be a very festive and familyfriendly program, with just the right mix of traditional, popular, whimsical, classic and expressive holiday selections. You’ll hear traditional carols like “Silent Night,” sentimental favorites from holiday movies such as White Christmas, a few jazzy toe-tappers, and even arrangements inspired by classical composers like Ravel and Tchaikovsky.

The chorus is especially thrilled to be joined by The Blackhawk String Quartet. Information and tickets for these upcoming concerts can be found at www.blackhawkchorus.com/events. impact!

Thank you again for the true community support- let’s make this an Auction to remember!

East Bay Street Dreams Turns Car Lovers’ Dreams into Reality

Among the multiple car shows up at Blackhawk Plaza, one with a big variety was East Bay Street Dreams. The show was held in September with a huge turnout. This nonprofit car club was founded in 2021 by auto enthusiasts - and Olds Cutlass owners - Jeanette Flagg and Kelly Shaw, and puts on a lively and family-friendly gathering every year at the Plaza. The club bills itself as a place where classic muscle cars and lowriders unite. At this year’s show, some of the autos in attendance were a monstrous, jacked up 2019 GMC Denali truck, classic 1960s Ford Mustangs, and a yacht-like 1960 Buick LeSabre Estate wagon.

For more information on East Bay Street Dreams, check out its website at https://eastbaystreetdreamscarclub.godaddysites.com/.

Niner’s News

Breast Cancer Awareness Month can mean different things to different people. For some, it’s the 31 days in October of pink ribbon reminders of a disease that forever changed them. Niners came out wearing pink to show their support for the more than 2 million women around the world who are diagnosed with the disease each year.

Ladies enjoyed the game “Breast Friends”. One team had a net best ball score of 36 and a few teams tied with a net best ball of 37. Congratulations to Laura Gross and Linda McColgan for shooting a 36…even par! There was a scorecard playoff for second place, and congratulations to Pat Burgess and Kimberly Horn for shooting a 37 and shooting 21 over the last 6 holes to win the playoff.

Thank you to Helen Tarantino for coming up with a fun game for all of us to enjoy.

Afterward, ladies had lunch in the newly remodeled clubhouse.

Celebrating Community and Culture: A Festival Season Tradition

As the leaves begin to turn red and the air fills with a hint of chill, the month of October brings with it joy for many upcoming festivities: dressing up for Halloween and celebrating vibrant festivities like Diwali. For the past four years, I have had the joy of hosting a special event at my residence in Blackhawk that brings together friends, family, and the rich tapestry of culture, together in the ancient form of art - Mehandi.

Every year, just before Halloween, our resident neighbors from the Blackhawk community come together to join in a colorful celebration of Mehandi. To kick off the festivities, we dress up in stunning traditional attire, from vibrant lehengas, saris to intricately designed kurtas. The attire itself sets the stage for a memorable afternoon. The event serves as a beautiful prelude to festivities that await in fall. During this time of the year, various festivals from different parts of India are still celebrated like Golu, Navratri, Durga Pooja, Kurwa Chauth, Dhanteras, Dussherra and Diwali. Diwali marks one of the largest celebrations for people of Indian origin. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, making it a perfect time for communities to come together and celebrate.

Your New Trusted Blackhawk Tax Advisors

The atmosphere is electric, filled with laughter, music, and dance. Guests enjoy music and dance performances that encourage everyone to join in. There’s something magical about watching friends and family, young and old, come together to celebrate and create new memories. Traditional mehandi artists from the Bay Area adorn guests with intricate designs on guests’ hands. The process becomes a communal activity, with friends chatting and laughing as they wait for their turn, creating a sense of camaraderie that is truly special.

EBA provides premier and personalized accounting services to individuals and businesses. Our areas of expertise include individual and business tax preparation and planning, forecasting, bookkeeping, business analysis, entity formation, payroll services, sales tax reporting and other small business services.

Mehandi, or henna, has a rich history and cultural significance in many societies like the Indian subcontinent, Middle East, and North Africa especially for married women. This intricate art form has been used for centuries, where it was applied to the palms and feet of brides on their wedding day. For married women, the application of mehandi is not merely decorative; it carries deep a symbolic meaning. It is believed that the darker the henna stain, the stronger the bond between a woman and her husband!

Food, of course, plays a pivotal role in the celebration. A feast of traditional Indian dishes fills the table, offering a chance to explore the diverse flavors of various cuisines. Many friends have started contributing their handmade specialties to the eclectic experience.

Across cultures, festivals share a common thread: the emphasis on community and connection. Women often play a central role in these celebrations, from organizing events to preparing traditional dishes and crafting elaborate decorations. The universal language of dressing up—whether in costumes for Halloween or traditional events—serves as a powerful symbol of unity and cultural pride. It strengthens the bonds within our Blackhawk community. By embracing these celebrations, we not only honor our individual heritages but also create spaces where everyone feels included and valued. These gatherings showcase how different cultures can intersect, creating a vibrant tapestry of shared experiences.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to host this event and bring together such a wonderful group of people. The enthusiasm and joy of everyone involved make the effort worthwhile!

Pinehurst The Centennial Course #8

Pinehurst No. 8 is one of ten courses at Pinehurst Resort, a historic golf resort anchored by the main lodge – the Carolina Hotel. Designed from 1898 to 1961, the first five courses surround the main golf club. No. 2 is the most well-known course, designed by Donald Ross in 1898. A greens fee between $300 and $600 depending on time of year, reflects its history of hosting major championships including the US Men’s and US Women’s Open in 2014. No. 2 is difficult, especially the upside-down saucer greens.

However, the other nine courses are challenging, yet more playable and lower priced. We played the four modern courses, No. 6, No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9, originally built from 1979-1996 in separate

locations up to four miles from the Clubhouse.

Pinehurst No. 8 is a Tom Fazio design that opened in 1995. Designed to celebrate the centennial year of Pinehurst Resort, there are no houses on the course.

The Centennial Course
Classic Adirondack Chairs

Gently Wooded

The clubhouse is dramatic. Traditional white Adirondack Rocking Chairs on the brick veranda overlook the eighteenth hole.

Bunkering is significant with several large but shallow fairway bunkers. But other holes have smaller, deeper but more numerous bunkers such as those found on Hole #3.

The Pinehurst reservoir runs along the Par3 Hole #5 providing a magnificent backdrop. You cross a large marsh wetland on the short Par 4 Hole #12. Bite off as much as you dare. Enjoy the fantastic view of the closing hole.

Pinehurst No. 8 includes multiple extensive wetland areas unique to this Pinehurst Resort course. Well-manicured with a distinct flavor, it’s one of our favorites at the Resort. We rank it third behind No. 2 and the Gil Hanse refurbished No. 4 as the best courses to play at Pinehurst Resort.

If You Go:

• Course Info – Pinehurst No. 8 has five tee grounds from 5153 yards to 7099 yards. The blue tee rating is 72.3 with a slope of 131. The white tee rating is 70.3 with a slope of 128.

• Location – Pinehurst No. 8 is three miles north of the main lodge and golf club. In the Village of Pinehurst seventy-five miles southwest of the Raleigh-Durham airport and seventy miles south of Greensboro, NC

• Lodging – Pinehurst Resort has four lodging alternatives, the historic Carolina Hotel, the Holly Inn and the Manor Inn. The Condos at Pinehurst are another choice for larger groups.

We Help with Jaw Pain (TMJ)

Ihad a patient that came in today who has been unable to open her mouth fully for 2 weeks. She had her regular appointment on the calendar for her spinal care scheduled for today, and as she was driving to our office she realized, “Hey, I wonder if he can help with this jaw thing!”

After a quick evaluation, it was clear that her jaw was being restricted both at the TMJ (the jaw joint) and by the musculature in the neck. We started by releasing the front of the neck, the muscles surrounding the base of the skull, and the tongue muscles.

We then adjusted the neck and jaw with regular chiro adjustments, and like magic, the jaw opened, and there was less pain.

She said, “Man, I never ever thought of you about this. I should have come in sooner.”

While it’s frustrating that people assume we are only good for neck and back pain, I view that as being my fault. I haven’t done a good enough job of sharing what we can do in this office. So here I am, sharing:

”I CAN HELP WITH JAW PAIN!”

“I CAN HELP WITH JAW PAIN!”

“I CAN HELP WITH JAW PAIN”

It’s not all about the joint. You might not need a mouthguard. So much has to do with the muscles in the neck, throat, tongue, and the base of the skull. We get amazing results here. Take the leap.

But now it’s your job to spread the word too! Know someone with TMJ dysfunction? Refer them in!

Send this email to your dentist! Tell them that there is a solution when people are complaining about TMJ, because a lot of dentists struggle finding the right practitioners.

Look at all those muscles connection around the jaw. When an experienced doctor is able to evaluate that, reduce inflammation and restore normal movement, the results are legendary.

Bella Union Winery

Recently, we had the pleasure to visit a new addition to the Napa Valley wine scene, Bella Union Winery. This highly anticipated opening is located in the famous Rutherford AVA on 120 acres. The new winery was founded by Dirk Hampton along with partners Larry McGuire, Beth Nickel (wife of Far Niente’s late founder Gil), and Erik Nickel, Gil’s Nephew.

Winemaker Brooke Price’s goal is to highlight Rutherford’s rich fruit in every vintage.

It is a sleek and ultra-modern design with a Jewel Box tasting room that feels like it is suspended in midair. It is designed to attract younger wine drinkers that the industry is trying to reach.

Our host today was Win, who was very passionate and had a wealth of wine knowledge.

We began our tasting with a 2022 Bianco White Blend that was a very refreshing start to a great tasting day.

After touring this beautiful winery, we sampled the 2022 Liaison Red Blend Napa Valley, 2022 Cultivist Red Blend Napa Valley, 2022 La Gemma Red Blend Napa Valley, and 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Napa Valley.

All were ‘great,’ but their flagship 2021 Rutherford Cabernet

Sauvignon was exceptional. We took a bottle back to Danville to share with our friends.

In conclusion, this winery is a ‘must do’ to add to your Napa bucket list.

May you be inspired by giving,

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for our Santa event! We loved sharing the holiday spirit with you and hope it brought a little extra magic to your season.

Chocolate Almond Bars

Serves 6.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease generously 12 x 9-inch oven-proof Pyrex pan and dust with flour.

CRUMB MIX

• 2 cups (whole wheat) pastry flour

• ¼ cup corn flour

• ¼ cup + 1 tablespoon raw sugar, powder

• 1 tablespoon baking powder

• 1 teaspoon of baking soda

FILLING

• 2 cups (about 12 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips (see chocolate, page 354)

• 3 cups milk, condensed to 1 ½ cup

• 1 tablespoon butter

• ¼ teaspoon sea salt

• 1 cup toasted almond butter

• 1 stick, sweet butter, melted, cooled

• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

• 2 eggs

• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extracts

• 1 cup flaked coconut

• 1 cup pecan-nuts, coarsely chopped

Crumb mixer (for the crust and topping): In a large stand mixing bowl, mix sifted dry ingredients (pastry flour, corn flour, sugar powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt) using flat attachment, run mixer for few minutes’ speeds #2. Gradually add almond butter, butter, vanilla, and eggs (one at the time). Scrape down the side of bowl as needed. Run the mixer for about 1 more minute until the crumbling mixture is formed. Divide crumble-mixture in half. Place one-half of crumbling mixture evenly at the bottom of Pyrex baking dish and press down gently to form a crust and reserve remaining half for topping.

Filling: In a double boiler melt chocolate with condensed milk and 1 tablespoon butter; over low heat until chocolate melts, remove from the heat, stir in vanilla, coconut and pecans. Pour the filling evenly over the bottom crust and scatter the remaining half of crumbled mixtures evenly over the filling and lightly press down. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes or until the top is slightly golden brown. Remove from oven; let cool for about 35 minutes and cut into 36 pieces. These bars freeze well for several weeks, when wrapped tightly with heavy aluminum foil and placed in covered container.

Try a Little Painting This Holiday Season!

If you’re looking for a fun, creative project to brighten up the holidays, I’ve got a great suggestion. Recently, I came across an Instagram post by @tinalemac, where she shared her adorable painted wooden gingerbread houses from Michael’s, decorated using Tulip Tube Paint. The finished pieces were simply charming—if you’re curious, head over to her account to check them out!

Inspired, I made a trip to my local Michael’s, only to find that they hadn’t yet unpacked these cute little houses. The store assured me they’ll be available soon, but if you’re eager to get started, you can order them online. Just visit michaels.com and search for the Wood Village A-Frame House by Make Market®—they’re priced at just $4.99 each.

For painting, I recommend using Tulip’s white tube paint. It’s incredibly easy to use and gives a beautiful, festive finish. While my Michael’s was out of stock, I found plenty of the white Tulip paint at Joann Fabrics, which was a happy discovery.

Since my local Michael’s in Dublin, California didn’t have the gingerbread houses yet, I decided to explore some other unfinished wood projects at Joann’s. I picked up a few wooden

ornaments and a delightful little birdhouse with whimsical mushroom details. It’s amazing how a little paint can turn these simple pieces into something so special.

So, why not try your hand at painting this season? Whether you’re making gifts, decorations, or just having fun, it’s a wonderful way to embrace the holiday spirit. Happy crafting, and enjoy the season!

Blackhawk Holiday Magic: From Diwali to Christmas – A Season to Shine

For another consecutive year, the Blackhawk community gathered to celebrate Diwali at the Blackhawk Lakeside Country Club, bringing together neighbors and friends to mark this vibrant Festival of Lights. Diwali, a celebration observed by millions worldwide, took on new sparkle as the club’s ballroom entrance welcomed guests with glowing Diyas (traditional lamps), vibrant marigolds, and traditional artwork, creating a warm and inviting festive ambiance. Amidst the serene setup, the event photographer captured the stylish arrivals and the joyful gathering.

The terrace was aglow with colorful lights, and the evening sky offered a breathtaking sunset, perfect for capturing festive memories. As the night unfolded, Bollywood music filled the air, guests danced, and an array of delicious Indian cuisine delighted all. The dedicated “Team Diwali” deserves heartfelt appreciation for organizing an event that allowed friends, both old and new, to bond and celebrate together.

As we transition from Diwali to Christmas, the message remains beautifully the same: a season to reflect, give, and renew. It’s a time to let go of old grievances, rekindle connections, and light up our surroundings with hope and warmth. And, of course, it’s the season for those cherished hugs and sweet exchanges that make this time of year unforgettable.

Wishing everyone in Blackhawk and beyond a joyful, safe, and blessed holiday season. May the Blackhawk Holiday Magic carry on from Diwali’s glow to Christmas cheer and beyond!

As an aspiring photographer, I have always loved taking beautiful photos of my friends and family, nature and travels. Wealth Preservation Strategies in a Volatile Market

It is a pleasure, Blackhawk neighbor, to write to you with my inaugural article in Blackhawk Living Magazine. My name is John Gardner. I am the founder of Blackhawk Wealth Advisor and am now celebrating my 40th year as an investment advisor as of October. Since 1984 I have helped high net worth investors achieve their investment and wealth planning objectives. The saying of Wall Street, “It is time in the market, not market timing, that matters most,” is true.

My goal in this first article is to accomplish three things: Most important, I want to share some useful information and perspectives that are of value to you. With this and future articles, my intent is to provide you with proactive wealth preservation and accumulation strategies and insights. Second, and briefly, tell you a little more about me and my firm. Lastly, I want to invite you to reach out to me if you ever have an investment related question or need I hope you find the following informative and useful.

Wealth Preservation Strategies in a Volatile Market

High net worth families face unique challenges in preserving their wealth. Navigating volatile investment markets in an ever-changing economic landscape is one of them. While recent stock market volatility has been relatively low since the current bull market began in October of 2022, history underscores the importance of implementing effective wealth preservation strategies. In my career as a Certified Financial Planner® and Certified Portfolio Manager® I have experienced several time-tested investment planning techniques that can effectively help preserve and increase the estate of high-net-worth families. Here are a few proven ways to help safeguard your financial future.

• Implement Tax-Efficient Strategies

Wealth preservation goes hand in hand with tax efficiency. High net worth families should leverage tax-advantaged accounts and strategies to minimize their tax burden. For example, utilizing Roth IRAs (and Roth Conversions), 529 plans for education costs, and charitable trusts can effectively reduce taxable income while promoting long-term financial goals. Moreover, maximizing deductions for charitable donations not only benefits your chosen causes but can also lower your overall tax liability. Because of the potential for higher taxes in 2026 if certain existing tax laws expire, I put this first on the list.

• Explore Alternative Investments

In addition to traditional assets, high net worth families should consider alternative investments, which can serve as a buffer against volatility. Private equity, hedge funds, and real estate investments often have low correlations with stock market performance, providing opportunities for growth even during turbulent times. They also offer potential tax benefits that can enhance overall returns. However, these investments come with risks and usually require a longer investment horizon, so thorough due diligence is essential.

• Maintain a Long-Term Perspective

Market volatility can trigger emotional responses that may lead to rash decisions. I have seen many smart people fall victim to this human condition. It’s crucial to maintain a long-term investment

perspective, focusing on your financial goals rather than shortterm price movements. An experienced advisor can provide guidance and help you stay committed to your strategic plan in volatile markets. Regular portfolio reviews can ensure alignment with your long-term objectives, allowing for adjustments when necessary, without succumbing to panic.

In summary, my short list and other proven strategies can serve you as a proven guide to protecting your assets. By diversifying your investments, exploring alternatives, implementing tax-efficient strategies, hedging against inflation, and maintaining a long-term perspective, you can preserve your wealth and position your family for future success.

Over my 40-year career I have gained valuable investment insight, experience, and knowledge. I thoroughly enjoy what I do for people and would be happy to help you. Blackhawk Wealth Advisors has the certifications and qualifications you can trust to successfully guide you with your financial goals. We employ a collaborative, multi-generational approach by using tax efficient and risk reducing investment strategies to maintain your current lifestyle while meeting your long-term needs and estate aspirations.
