This month we are introducing you to your neighbors, the Bakers. Randy and Karen Baker feel grateful everyday for the life they created in this community.
Designer: Emily Lund
It’s about this time of year that I start to get a little cabin fever, so I’m really looking forward to Sunday, March 13th, when we get the pleasure of advancing our clocks an hour. I love having more time to walk the dog, play outside and visit with neighbors. It’s also a sign that warmer weather is on the way!

Meet the
Bakers: Randy and Karen By Megan Scott, Resident since 2010
N
ew to Blackhawk, Randy and Karen Baker moved in last June to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They have moved a lot in their long marriage and say they have never felt more welcomed in a new community. “The neighbors are VERY friendly and were very welcoming. We think this may be the friendliest neighborhood we have ever lived in, and we have moved a lot. Once COVID has settled a bit, we look forward to more neighborhood activities.” Long retired and empty nesters, the Bakers love travel, charity, time with family and friends, and, of course, lots of quality time with their grandchildren. Married for almost 50 years, Randy and Karen met on a blind date on March 24th, 1973; it went so well they were married eight months later. “Randy was one of the kindest and caring men I had ever met, and we talked with each other about everything and anything. I knew right away he was the one,” says Karen. Randy says he knew Karen was his perfect match right away also, “Karen was kind, loving and attractive. We had similar, compatible personalities. Plus, she loved children. We both shared a strong interest in successful futures together.” Although it was a true blind date for Karen, in the interest of not wasting any time, Randy says he found out where Karen worked before they met in person and decided to check her out before the date, “Karen had a part-time job in retail, so I decided to visit the store and look for her name tag. I liked what I saw and definitely wanted to take her out. I only told Karen this after our first date.” Karen was born and raised in Mishawaka, Indiana. She graduated from Indiana University, in Bloomington, IN. Due to frequent moves, she explored several careers. “We moved a lot for Randy’s work, so I was able to hold a variety of jobs. I worked as a speech therapist for many years, taught English as a second language, worked with severely emotionally disturbed teens and taught Pre-school and Kindergarten. After years of teaching, I entered the corporate world as a meeting planner and worked for Tandem Computers for 10 years. Each job I had was fulfilling, and had we stayed in one place I would not have had all the experiences,” says Karen.
Randy and Karen with their grandkids at the zoo
Randy was born in Westchester County, NY. He graduated from Long Island University with a degree in Psychology and Business. He began his career with IBM and stayed for 18 years. Next, he joined Tandem Computers for nine years. His last job before retirement was with Oracle for seven years. “I enjoyed each job and specifically my role in customer service and support worldwide. I was able to observe and understand other cultures and various value systems,” says Randy. Since the couple retired 21 years ago, they have been able to enjoy extensive travel. They also enjoy including their children and grandchildren in their trips. Karen and Randy have four children and eight grandchildren. They chose Blackhawk to be closer to two of their sons and their families that live nearby. “We also wanted a place that offered amenities like golf, pickleball and fine dining. The gated community was also very attractive,” adds Karen. Giving back to their community and those in need has always been important to the Bakers. “Each November, we grant money to various charities. We have given most generously to charities that serve the mental health community, children who have been abused or misplaced due to circumstances, and educational institutions that

assist students who are financially challenged. I have served on three different nonprofit boards dedicated to serving those in need. It is essential that we think about others who are challenged in some way, and we believe we are here to help others to the extent we can,” says Karen. The Baker family motto is: If only our eyes saw souls instead of bodies, how very different our ideals of beauty would be. They live up to that motto in how they live their lives and commit their resources.

Chris
By Cole Kuiper, ARF Looking for a furry friend during this trying time? If you see an animal you’re interested in on our website, just fill out an online inquiry form. Once your inquiry has been received, you will be added to our virtual adoption queue. Meet your forever friend at Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation, 2890 Mitchell Drive, Walnut Creek, during adoption hours: Noon to 6 pm Wednesday & Thursday, Noon to 7 pm Friday, and Noon to 6 pm Saturday & Sunday.
Seven-year-old Jolly is a gentle fellow looking for his forever family. Leisure strolls around the park and a nice cuddle session with his person are idea activities for Jolly. This sweet pup would flourish in a stable, quiet home with a predictable routine. He has a positive history with other dogs and currently weighs 42 pounds. Jolly has stage B2 Mitral and Tricuspid valve disease. This means the valves in his heart are leaking, causing his heart to work harder, and that he will need to be on medication for the rest of his life, to slow the progression of heart disease.
Would you like to be part of the heroic team that saves the lives of rescued dogs and cats? Can you share your talents to connect people and animals? ARF volunteers are making a difference! For more information see our website, www.arflife.org, or call (925) 256-1ARF.
ARF adoption fees: $250 for an adult dog, $350 for a puppy (<6months), $125 for a special- needs dog, $175 for a special-needs puppy (<6months), and $125 for a senior dog (7+ years).
Nine-year-old Chris is a handsome man looking for a patient guardian with whom he can relax and snuggle with. It may take him some time to warm up, but once he does, he is a total love bug. Chris has a positive history with other cats. ARF Adoption fees: $100 for an adult cat, $150 for a kitten (<6months), $150 for two adult cats, $250 for two kittens, $50 for a special-needs cat, $75 for a special-needs kitten (<6months), and $50 for a senior cat (7+ years).

Considering Rhinoplasty?
Why Now Is a Good Time By Dr. Stephen J. Ronan, MD FACS, Blackhawk Plastic Surgery and MedSpa
I
t’s 2022 and wearing a mask has become a part of our everyday lives. We have them in our pockets, cars, all over the house and curse them when we see “maskne” developing along our jawline. What we’ve been seeing lately, are savvy patients taking advantage of their required use and hiding recovery from rhinoplasty surgery underneath them. Your nose is the most prominent feature on your face, and its shape affects the overall balance (or imbalance) that you see when looking in the mirror. A hereditary dorsal hump, an elongated tip or nose that is too wide is what we see most patients seeking correction for. Often, there are functionality issues or a chin that is recessed and makes the nose appear to be bigger. All these things can be addressed simultaneously, while results continue to showcase some of the most transformational outcomes in patients both emotionally and physically. Successful rhinoplasty surgery results from three important steps: 1. The surgeon must first evaluate exactly what the problem is, and which structural aspects of the nose need to be addressed; 2. Next, the surgeon must be able to visualize the right nose and sometimes chin for a particular patient’s face and conceive the most appropriate surgical plan which may include a small, custom silicone chin implant; 3. Lastly, the surgeon must be able to execute that plan both skillfully and artistically. Surgery generally takes 60-90 minutes and patients can expect a small amount of pain, bruising and swelling. All of which can be concealed underneath your mask, making your recovery nearly undetectable. Most patients return to in person work after a week. Or, if working from home, even after a day or two. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for nose surgery is to schedule a complimentary in-person or virtual consultation where we can review the procedure together and address all your questions. If you are interested in learning more about rhinoplasty or other cosmetic procedures, please contact our office at 925.736.5757. Where residents find and recommend the best local, trusted businesses

The tech industry’s shift to remote work has allowed executives to move out of the peninsula without having to worry about a long commute. However, with remote/hybrid work becoming permanent at many companies, we believe 2022 is poised to set even more records. This beautiful enclave is finally starting to see the value this community deserves. If you are asking, is it the right time to sell? You are not alone. Selling a home is one of the top discussions with clients today in 2022. I think it would be safe to say it is an excellent time to market your home with social media awareness and world-class digital marketing packages. Additionally, innovative lending options for sellers are becoming more popular, such as bridge loans making a big move more appealing. If it’s the right time for you to say goodbye to your home, it’s a great time to get top dollar with some buyers on the move trying to land homes before interest rates rise. Before deciding, think about these top five things when you choose to sell your home. •
Start organizing. Are you ready to say goodbye to some stuff? Start planning with these steps: Go through old and memorable items, donate not-needed items, start organizing, decluttering, and finding a safe place for valuables. Gina from Organized by Gina says, “You should give yourself a 2-3 month timeline if you can”.
•
Be open to investing in improvements. A fresh coat of paint, new carpet, and basic landscaping improvements (i.e., mulch) will help your property look its best. Get a second opinion to help you get top dollar for your property.
•
Explore your new community. Know where you want to live and go start to explore the area! Spend time there and visit often. Experience the local things to do. Book a hotel room for a few days or a week and see how you like it.
•
Plan your sale. Having a plan in place is more crucial than ever as most homes can sell in about 7 to 20 days, so it’s essential to be ready. You can ask for a rent-back; this is where you rent back your home after closing escrow at the current rental market rate or explore bridge loan options that allow sellers to buy their new home first then sell. There are a lot of options, so know what is best for you.
•
Test the market. Listing off-market gives you a chance to get the word out locally and globally with off-market exclusive
options that some brokerages offer. It’s a more exclusive way to sell, especially if you are unsure and want to take your time to test your home’s market temperature. Sometimes it’s hard to know what is best, so it is essential to have a professional guide you. I feel truly humbled to do what I do and can’t wait to help with the next home journey. Napa Silver Oak Release Day 2022 By Mike L. McColgan, Resident since 1993
R
ecently, we had the pleasure to attend the Release Day Party for the 2017 Napa Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon. This grand event is a ‘must do’ Napa tradition. The Silver Oak motto “Life is a Cabernet” is perfect for their world class wine. The Napa Release Day is always in February, and Alexander Valley relase is in August. There is a morning session and afternoon session to satisfy the loyal patrons of this world class wine. This iconic winery was founded in 1972 by Ray Duncan and winemaker Justin Meyer. The release day is full of fun with photo booths, food, music, and generous pours of their great wine. The 2017 Napa Cabernet is full bodied and promises to be highly rated. “Life is a Cabernet.” For more information and to make a tasting appointment go to: https://silveroak.com/visit/

rish stew has long been a food staple that reflects the culture of Ireland and its people. Simmered lamb and hearty root vegetables were readily available ingredients that have evolved in the United States to both echo and acknowledge the Irish heritage of many Americans.
Ingredients •
pepper 8 oz baby carrots 1/8 cup all-purpose flour 1 lb fresh English peas, shelled 3 white onions, sliced thickly 1 lb russet potatoes, peeled 1 bay leaf 2 tbsp minced parsley
on all sides, about 10 minutes. While the meat is browning, turn your attention to slicing the onions. Once sliced, set aside. When the meat is finished, transfer it with tongs to a platter and set it aside as well.
Begin by combining the salt, pepper, and flour in a small bowl. Pat the lamb stew meat dry and sprinkle them with flour mixture, thoroughly coating each side of the pieces. Add the olive oil to a 6- to 8-quart wide, heavy pot and using moderately high heat warm the pot until hot but not smoking. Transfer the meat to the bottom of the pot and brown well
Cover the pot and reduce heat to a low simmer. After about 2 hours, peel and cubed the potatoes. Add the potatoes, baby carrots and peas to the stew meat in the pot. Turn the heat up slightly and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes more, until the vegetables and meat are tender. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with chopped parsley.
• • • • • •
3½ to 4 lbs boneless lamb stew meat 1 can or bottle of dark beer (such as Guinness) 2 tbsp olive oil ¼ cup veal demi-glace ¾ tsp kosher salt 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar ½ tsp freshly ground black
Directions:
• • • • • • •
Add the sliced onions and bay leaf to the fat remaining in pot, cooking them over moderate heat and stirring occasionally until golden, 10 to 12 minutes. Place the stew meat back into the pot with onions. Next, add your choice of dark beer, veal demi-glace and balsamic vinegar (the liquid should come about halfway up sides of meat). Bring to a boil.

Golf Destinations
Wailea Gold Course –
Breathtaking Hawaiian Vistas By Chuck Fox, Owner, Quintessential Golf, Resident since 2012
H
ere today, gone to Maui. A play on words, but it never gets old coming to this island. Sun, sand, beach, snorkeling, whale watching, or watching the sunset. And did I mention golf? With spectacular mountain and ocean views, you can’t go wrong playing any of the courses. Southwest started service to Hawaii in 2019 with non-stop flights from California direct to Honolulu and Maui. Now round-trip pricing from Oakland to Maui is only a few hundred dollars on multiple carriers. Yippee. Three distinct golf destinations on the island of Maui are Wailea in the Southeast, Kaanapali in the West and Kapalua in the Northwest. Wailea and Kaanapali enjoy the better weather. As Kapalua is on the North shore it gets more rain than the other two locations. The best
combination of golf and weather is in Wailea. Over the year, average high temperatures range from 80 to 87 degrees F, and average low temperatures range from 65 to 73 degrees F. You can’t beat the steady and predictable weather for golf. Wailea Golf Club - Three Courses Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed the Wailea Gold course and Emerald course in 1994, keeping the original Blue course and closing the original Orange course. We found a stylish clubhouse for the Wailea Gold course and Emerald course further up the hill including a restaurant/bar with fabulous ocean views.
Rugged lava outcroppings give a stark black contrast to the green of the fairway and deep blue of the ocean. On holes eight and nine, we easily carry gullies filled with lava rock. Jones Jr. put teeth into the layout with plentiful and deep greenside bunkering. Most visitors would put the approach shot into the 409-yard par 4 eighteenth high on their list of beautiful closing shots. Brown beach-like sand surrounds the green framed in palm trees. The ocean to the left and the white clubhouse perched above to the right elicit a tranquil feeling capping off a beautiful round of golf in the islands.
These are classic resort courses with generous fairways, minimal rough and large gentle greens on the slower side. But holes have a breathtaking view of Mt. Haleakala and the Pacific. Conditioning of the Bermuda grass is excellent. Yet the courses have the unique Hawaiian design character. The distinct black lava rock outcroppings combine with old stone walls and boxwood bushes throughout the layout. It’s a stunning setting for golf.
If You Go: Course Info - Wailea Golf Club is a public access golf course with three eighteen-hole courses - Blue, Gold and Emerald. Location – Twenty miles from the Kahului airport to the north. Rates: Green fees are $120 - $289 depending on season. Lodging – Wailea enjoys six fantastic beach hotels and eight condo vacation rental villages within three miles.
Wailea Gold Course Wailea Gold course is the most challenging of the three, it hosted The Champions Skins Game from 2001 to 2007. Terrain is naturally undulating but not severe. Maybe it’s the serenity, but I had the best round since I started Quintessential Golf, a 1-under 71. Wow!
Quintessential Golf (https://www. quintessentialgolf.com) A source of golf travel inspiration, Quintessential Golf online magazine spotlights the most spectacular, enduring and scenic courses, resorts and golf adventures. Written from a players point-of-view, articles include magnificent high-resolution course images. Brought to you by Chuck Fox, single-digit golfer, writer and photographer based in Danville, California, he is fulfilling his passion and dream to play, photograph and share the romance and beauty of golf throughout North America.
The first hole is notable. The 400-yard par 4 downhill points directly at the Pacific Ocean providing an extraordinary vista to start the round. 18

The Spring Clinic is a five-week program that will start on March 1st and end on March 31st. League rules allow that swimmers may train a total of 15 hours during the month of March. Each practice is limited to 45 minutes and swimmers may have no more than 20 practices during the Spring Clinic. HOX Summer Swim Team
HOX summer swim registration is open! The price is $700 per swimmer ($650 for your 2nd, $550 for your 3rd). Afternoon practices for the HOX summer swim team start April 1st. Visit hoxswim.com for details and registration. The strong windstorm in January unfortunately blew over the HOX swim team’s scoreboard. We will be replacing it as soon as possible and the silver lining is that we will install the new scoreboard in a different location so that our members can enjoy the fantastic views to the south. If you have stopped by the pool recently, you can’t miss the fact that there is no water in it right now. We are in the middle of replastering, and we are looking forward to seeing the pool up and running.

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue KITTEN SEASON IS COMING! By Janine Collins, Blackhawk resident since 1999
T var Needs Kitten Fosters
Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR) needs kitten fosters who can provide temporary homes for kittens prior to adoption. Kittens are fun, crazy, and loving little creatures that will reward your attention many times over. Fostering is a wonderful way to volunteer in the community. • • • •
TVAR provides everything you need – food, litter box, bedding, toys, and medical care YOU provide love, nurturing and socialization. A small room separate from the rest of your living space, such as a small bathroom, is the perfect place to keep them. Even if you have pets of your own, you can still take in kittens and give them the chance they deserve.
TVAR also provides one-on-one training to teach fosters how to do everything necessary to raise kittens – as well as assist foster parents through the adoption process. For more information on how you can help save an adorable deserving life, or if you are ready to get started, please email: Kittenfosters@ tvar.org
If you are interested in becoming a kitten bottle baby foster please email: Kittenfosters@tvar.org
Tri-Valley Animal R escue (T VAR ) - Giving them Another Chance
TVAR is a locally based and volunteer run 501(c)3 animal rescue organization. We assist in saving over 1,000 animals yearly in the TriValley and surrounding areas. We are celebrating just short of 30 years of saving lives with over 250 local volunteers. At TVAR, we rely solely on Public Support to fund our life saving programs. All TVAR’s foster animals go directly from the local Animal Shelter into foster homes where they receive much needed love and socialization and where they are kept until adopted. We also have an invaluable Shelter Program where our volunteers spend countless hours every day at the local shelter working with the Dogs, Puppies, Cats and Kittens and the Public
Bottle Baby Fosters Also Needed
Bottle babies are newborn orphaned kittens up to 4-5 weeks of age. They are not old enough to eat by themselves and time is critical to get them into a bottle baby foster home – even a few hours can make a difference. TVAR again provides all the necessary items you need to foster bottle babies. While being a bottle baby foster is more specialized than kitten fostering, what a wonderful gift you can give to these tiny animals that deserve that second chance. What a warm and fuzzy feeling you will have as you watch your kitties get adopted knowing that without you, they would not have survived.

How Women Can Be Left Penniless After Years of Marriage By Michael F. Framé, The Framé Group
I
t happens to men too, but not as frequently. This phenomenon most often occurs with the baby boomer and Gen X population and when one spouse controls all or the majority of the finances. We initiate one or more of these investigations weekly. Unexpected signs of financial loss or impropriety by a spouse can be as innocuous as a late notice in the mail or a call from a creditor the client is unfamiliar with. We don’t have an xyz mortgage or credit card? At times, a lawsuit is filed, and the client is unexpectedly served. Many times, it is a gut feeling that something is amiss. Financial irregularity or loss of net worth is also discovered when a party contemplating divorce consults with us before meeting with an attorney. These investigations can uncover debt incurred by the spouse the client is unaware of. In California, there are instances when an individual can be held responsible for the debt a spouse incurred, with or without prior knowledge. While there are many ways to lose money or misappropriate funds, the most common scenarios we encounter include:
A Second Relationship or Family: Monies are diverted to pay rent, mortgages, jewelry, travel, or child support. Inappropriate or Day Trading: Margin trading, naked call options, derivatives, crypto, junk bonds, etc. can quickly lead to significant losses. Addiction: Gambling, drugs, alcohol, online chat porn, prostitution, etc. We recently finished an investigation where a subject spent $1.2 million on prostitutes and online sex activities. Investment Fraud: We investigated an individual who had invested in privately funded alternative real estate loans through a small company. The subject had been referred to this company by a friend, who had received legitimate returns. Through investigation, we learned the head of the investment company began funding his lifestyle with his client’s investments. The subject lost $4.2 million and did not want to disclose the loss to his wife. There are many other factors and events, legitimate and otherwise, that can lead to financial ruin. The information necessary to protect your financial future is available. All inquiries are confidential.

he British are coming...and their cars and motorbikes were exhilarating. The 30th annual All British Motor Show, presented by the Blackhawk Museum and Mini Owners of America SF (MOASF), wowed with a massive display of British vehicles. The placement of cars was organized by marque with familiar names like Jaguar, Mini and Aston Martin sitting alongside those no longer in production such as Morris, MG and Triumph. The emcee kept the mood pumped with classic British tunes and live interviews. Happy 50th birthday MOASF!!!
David Tom: I have lived in Danville for 30 years. I retired from the corporate tax world and now pursue a variety of projects that interest me. I have always loved cars and look forward to sharing them with you.

Diabetic Alert Dogs Save Lives! By Victoria Briskin, Early Alert Canines
F
or more than a decade, Early Alert Canines (EAC), located in Concord, California, has advanced its mission to improve the health, safety, and well-being of people with insulin-dependent diabetes through partnerships with certified low blood sugar alert dogs. Most clients have type 1 diabetes and rely upon insulin therapy to survive. While this can keep someone alive and help maintain blood glucose levels, it’s not a cure and doesn’t prevent side effects. If left untreated, hypoglycemia can result in unconsciousness, coma, or death in as few as twenty minutes. Diabetic Alert Dogs alert their partners in advance of an impending shift in blood glucose levels, allowing them time to take the necessary precautions or treatment to avoid dangerously low blood glucose levels. This provides a major relief, especially to the parents of children with diabetes, many of whom describe the helplessness and fear they experience trying to manage this life-threatening disease. The success of a Diabetic Alert Dog depends upon the collaboration between EAC and the client, their medical team, and the dog. Most of the available hypoglycemia medical alert equipment relies on accurate and continuous input from the person with diabetes, which is only effective when the person is awake, alert, and thinking clearly. In addition to human and mechanical errors, many factors can mitigate the efficacy of these tools. These range from temporary inattentiveness, such as when a person is sleeping, to medical complications, such as insulin resistance or hypoglycemic unawareness. A child’s potential inability to recognize and effectively communicate blood sugar changes can be a major stumbling block for caretakers. A Diabetic Alert Dog warns their partner under most any circumstance, including waking them in the middle of the night if necessary.

for a successful partnership. Some fosters provide care for months, while others provide an occasional home. EAC relies on donations and sponsorship to fund its programs, believing that any client who needs their service should have access without significant barriers. Their annual spring fundraiser, Bone Appetit: A Feast for the Dogs, will be held virtually this year due to the surge in COVID cases. A fun and interactive program is planned that will be live streamed on Saturday, March 19th starting at 5:30pm PST so that anyone can join us from anywhere! Sponsorship information can be found on their website: www.EarlyAlertCanines. org. Or visit them on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or Twitter.
EAC specializes in the unique needs of children, teens, and families and helps their clients have the tools to be resilient and thrive, despite the adversity of managing a chronic illness. They promote a sense of family and an equitable culture that includes a diverse community where each individual feels validated, supported, and celebrated for what makes them unique. They provide ongoing training and re-certification that is crucial for long-term success. EAC is an advocate for disability rights and works to educate the community about Type 1 diabetes, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Service Dogs. Recently, EAC has partnered with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in a pilot program to train COVID-19 Medical Detection Dogs. EAC maintains a small staff and relies upon the vital support of highly-skilled volunteers. Each dog-in-training requires the help of one or more foster homes that provide overnight care and reinforced training. EAC provides the necessary training, supplies and support 36

Five warning signs your identity has been stolen By Anthony Regina, CEO at Bay Area IT Solutions, Inc.
G
iven the large number of possible identity theft scenarios, it pays to stay alert. Of course, the biggest warning sign that your identity data could be in danger is if you receive a breach notification letter. It goes without saying that you should read it carefully.
Unusual bank statement/card activity
Even small discrepancies can sometimes indicate fraud, as scammers often check the validity of stolen cards with innocuousseeming purchases before ramping up their activity. If something doesn’t look right, put a freeze on the card/account. This can often be done via your mobile banking app. Then immediately contact your banking/card provider.
Your phone/online accounts stop working
If attackers get hold of your log-ins, the first thing they’ll do is change the password in order to lock you out. Alternatively, if they’ve managed to trick your mobile operator, they will get them to port your number to a device under their control. This is known as SIM swapping and is particularly dangerous.
• • • • • • • • •
you have online Use strong, long and unique passwords for all accounts, stored in a password manager Ensure you have up-to-date AV on all your devices from a reputable provider Read up on identity theft and protection Regularly patch or switch on automatic updates for all devices Avoid unofficial app stores Avoid logging on at public Wi-Fi hotspots Only use HTTPS (green padlock) websites Shred or destroy old documents so no personal details are showing Minimize the amount of information you share with businesses online
You have problem filing taxes
Another common strategy is to use stolen Social Security numbers and other personal details to file personal taxes early, impersonating the victim. The hacker is then able to fraudulently claim any tax refunds due. If you find you’re unable to file your taxes, this could be the reason.
There’s a problem with your medical bill/claim
If you get a medical bill for services you never received, or try to submit a claim but it’s rejected because you’ve already reached the limit pre-assigned by your provider, identity thieves could be to blame. Especially in countries with private healthcare systems, such scams can be highly lucrative.
The debt collector’s call
If an identity thief has racked up a huge credit card bill or similar debt in your name and then vanished, it’s only a matter of time before the lender asks a collection agency to investigate.
What to consider if your identity has been stolen.
The first step is not to panic. Inform your bank/card provider/insurer immediately and report any suspected crime to the authorities. In the US, report an incident and receive a recovery plan at: IdentityTheft. gov.
How to stay safe
There’s only so much you can do to prevent breaches if they’re targeted at the organizations, you do business with. But there are some preventative steps you can also take in case fraudsters try to target you directly. Consider the following: •
Switch on multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all accounts

Hawk Hill, San Francisco:
A secret spot to view the awe-inspiring Golden Gate Bridge By Sonia Lamba, Resident since 2015

fabulous selfie from top of Hawk Hill. Isn’t the Golden Gate Bridge a beauty? I definitely have a crush on it.
The lookout point on Hawk Hill, a short easy hike from the parking lot, has stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco.
Hawk Hill is a 923foot peak in Marin Headlands, just North of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Hawk Hill is a hidden gem and also my favorite place to catch the spectacular San Francisco sunset.
The winter magic of crisp January air and the fog rolling in add to the incredibly beautiful panoramic views. As an aspiring photographer, I have always loved taking beautiful photos of my friends and family, nature and travels. After having afulfillingcareerinnance fi inNewYork,I moved to California in 2014 where my love for photography turned into an invigorating passion. Moving to gorgeous Blackhawk has further enriched and blossomed my love for the camera. I take my camera everywhere, regardless of how short the distance is. “Marry Me March with Padis” is Here! Padis is Hosting a Huge Wedding Band Faire on March 26th and Offers Advice on Wedding Band Selection By Steve Padis, Padis Jewelry and The Forevermark Boutique at Broadway Plaza
E
ngagement rings tend to steal the spotlight when it comes to marriage-related jewelry, but the wedding band shouldn’t be overlooked. After all, this is the only part of the wedding that you’ll be looking at every day for a very long time. We suggest thinking of a wedding band as a piece of jewelry you love while worn solo, that isn’t necessarily made to be so matchy-matchy with your engagement ring and that can potentially stack with your engagement ring and other bands down the road. Your wedding band is not only a symbol of your love and commitment to your spouse, but it’s also a piece of jewelry you’ll wear every day. We suggest thinking about whether you gravitate toward more subtle or statement-making jewelry in your everyday life than consider your lifestyle, too. If you’re super-active, you’ll need a more durable band. If you do want stones, bezel or flush settings offer the most protection and since it’s a ring you will wear and treasure for the rest of your life, the gems or materials you select should be durable. Fit and comfort are extremely important factors, too. Always look for style and quality, but never compromise on comfort. When a ring doesn’t fit well, it’s obvious and doesn’t look good. We also acknowledge the importance of knowing if your ring can be resized over time — if not, go up in size for something like an eternity band, which often can’t be resized. Fingers do change with time, so be sure to take the weather into account, too. With heat, we tend to swell and in cold weather, our fingers tend to shrink. Our team at Padis Jewelry is here to help guide you in selecting a band that matches your style and lifestyle. Join us March 26th and
throughout the month of March as we host our Wedding Band Faire featuring expanded designer collections and the Bay Area’s largest and finest selection of wedding bands! We will have wedding band specialists on hand for you to connect with. Browse thousands of bands at prices too good to publish.
