Dear Neighbors, Whether you love football, the new fall TV season, the holiday blockbusters on the horizon, or the oodles of new books to devour, October is a good time to be a fan. I can’t be the only one tempted to spend a day on the couch with a bowl of popcorn. I love October in Blackhawk when the beautiful fall colors are in full swing, the houses are decorated with ghosts and goblins and we get to see the neighborhood kids in their costumes. The community of Blackhawk always comes together to make the season special. This month you’ll meet your neighbors, the Loaries. They are all about family and we are thrilled to share their family story with you. Warmly,

Megan Scott Resident since 2010

Resident e F ature is proudly sponsored by Tucker Associates Real Estate Kristin Loarie Soule family (7) recently had their second son, Luke, receive the Eagle Scout award. The oldest, Zachary, also achieved Eagle Scout and two others, Stuart and Caden, are working towards it. The picture provided is a recent picture of the family at the recent Eagle Scout awards presentation. They live in Stevenson Ranch, CA, near Valencia and right next to Magic Mountain. Husband Kevin is the son of Anita and Sandy Soule who live right around the corner from us in Hidden Oaks. Kristin, as Tom, lived in Hidden Oaks from adolescence through college. Kristin was a cheerleader at Monte Vista and served in student government there as well as being elected Homecoming Queen in her senior year.

Tom was living as a single parent in Hidden Oaks, where he moved to take a job based in Alameda. “I originally looked in Orinda, but I ended up choosing Hidden Oaks for its intimate neighborhood feel, and closeness to tennis courts and a swimming pool. I moved in 1984 and loved how the neighborhood reminded me of my hometown in Deerfield, Illinois.

Meet the Loaries: Live Right, Do Good By Megan Scott, Resident since 2010

I

f you’ve never met Thomas Loarie, there’s a chance you might recognize his voice. He co-hosts a radio show called The Mentors Radio, which airs Saturdays on the Salem Radio Network in California (KTRB AM860) and worldwide, on iHeart Radio. “We are now in our fifth year. We feature guests from all walks of life, from well known CEOs, authors, drug dealers, to a former movie star who just celebrated her golden jubilee as a nun. I was selected to be a host based on several factors: I am one of Amazon.com’s top book reviewers, my role as program director for the Oakland Diocese’s Catholics@ Work Speakers Series over the past 20 years, and my ongoing work as co-leader with SING, a transition ministry of St. Isidore Catholic Church, which is focused on helping those in career transition. All of this experience has provided me with access to people from all over the world, has kept my feet on the ground and has provided balance in life,” says Tom. Tom and Patty were introduced by mutual friends while Patty was visiting the Bay Area. Based in Florida, she visited family in the Bay Area every year. “We both knew instantly that there was something special about the other when we met. Once we met, we were inseparable, and we were married on Valentine’s Day,” says Patty.

This was during the very early building stages of the Blackhawk Country Club. Back in those days, a Blackhawk Club membership cost homeowners $150 per month. Swim meets for kids were held at the pool near the tennis courts, and it was the center of much neighborhood activity. Patty and Tom formed a blended family when they married, and the focus of their lives has always been their children and now their grandchildren. The couple has four children and thirteen grandchildren. Patty’s two sons have served as fighter pilots flying A10s, F16s and the F35. They currently live with their spouses and children in Florida and Virginia. Tom’s two children, a son and a daughter (who married the “Soule boy” around the corner in Hidden Oaks), live with their spouses and children in El Dorado Hills, CA and Stevenson Ranch, CA. Seeing their grandchildren growing into productive and responsible adults has given them great joy. “One granddaughter has graduated from the University of Florida, has married and is serving in New Mexico with the United States Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant. One grandson has just graduated from the University of Florida. Three other grandchildren are in college - University of California at Berkeley; Florida State University; and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Three are in grade school and the rest are in high school. We have swimmers, soccer players, rowers, basketball players, and gymnasts. All are adventurers. With the children grown, our travel now revolves around visiting with them and our grandkids.” Patty’s family lived in Manasquan, NJ (the shore) and she was born at a hospital in Asbury Park, NJ. Her career, with stints in sales at IBM, DEC, OC Tanner, and IKON, revolved around building relationships and serving others. Many client relationships became friendships. Patty also worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines. “I resigned after 9-11. The fateful Flight 93 to Newark and back was her regular route. I once flew as an attendant on a plane piloted by my son, which was very special,” says Patty. Until she retired, she helped people find their dream homes, working as a realtor with J. Rockcliff Realtors in the Blackhawk office. “I loved working with my clients. Years of competitive swimming combined with my extensive sales experience provided the discipline to successfully navigate the process of selling/ finding and securing the perfect home,” says Patty. Peter Smith, Pat’s oldest son, family (6) lives in Wellington, Fl, near West Palm Beach. Peter is a Captain at Jet Blue and served until recently in the US Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lt Colonel. Peter flew in combat in the Middle East and flew both the A10 (Warthog) and F16. His oldest daughter, Erika, is a 1st Lt in the USAF. Peter and his wife, Terry, lived with us for six months when Peter began flying for United Airlines. They eventually landed in Benicia, then moved to Florida after 9/11 where Peter began his time as an F16 pilot.

David Smith, Pat’s youngest, and his family (4) live in McLean VA. David is the only one of the four that has not spent any residential time in Hidden Oaks. All the others are alumni. David is still in the USAF reserves where he serves as a General and is assigned to CENTCOM. Before moving to the DC area, David was the Commander of the 419th Fighter Wing at Hill AFB (Ogden, UT) where he supported the operationalization of the F35 which he and the Wing flew. David also served in combat.

the Masters Swimming program, beginning her association with the group in Miami shortly after its creation.

Technology Update, the Journal of Applied Manufacturing Systems and the Journal of Refractive Surgery.

Tom grew up in Chicago and began his career as an engineer in aerospace, then moved into healthcare. “My 45+ years in healthcare includes 13 years with American Hospital Supply Corp (now Baxter) where I gained valuable experience before being named President of AHSC’s Heyer-Schulte, which focused on Class III medical implants. I was then hired by the famed venture capitalist Tom Perkins to begin a career creating and growing new medical products companies here in the Bay Area. I have been involved in bringing over 20 new products to market across thirteen medical domains within biotherapeutics, medical technology, and connected health. Furthermore, I currently serve as co-founder, CEO and board member for BryoLogyx Inc.; and as chairman of the board for the ReFocus Group,” says Tom. He has lectured and written extensively on medical technology innovation and its implications for health care public policy, including articles in the Wall Street Journal, Royal Academy of Engineering World

The past year has seen Tom and Patty home more than ever due to COVID restrictions, but Tom says it has given them the opportunity to appreciate their beautiful neighborhood, take walks and engage with neighbors, “We like the peace and quiet our neighborhood affords, the access to Mt Diablo State Park, and the high-quality schools. We had not really gotten to know our new generation of neighbors until recently, as our children have grown and gone, and we have had several generational shifts over the years. COVID, however, was a game changer as we could no longer go to the gym for exercise and began a very disciplined program of walking. We have met many of our neighbors since we began this over the past year and have gained a nickname of ‘the hat people’ due to the variety of hats we sport as we walk.”.

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue By Janine Collins, Blackhawk resident since 1999

Banjo - Dog Program At T var Our little Banjo has had such a difficult time but hopefully things are looking up for this bundle of love. Banjo was running loose for days and days - until some dedicated volunteers caught him. Covered in dangerous foxtails, he was rushed to an Emergency Vet so the foxtails didn’t do more damage. After veterinarian care for other issues, Banjo is healthy and ready to go to his new forever home.

TVAR gives deserving animals like Banjo another chance by taking them into foster care. All TVAR dogs live in foster homes till adopted. Foster families get to know each dog’s personality and needs in a home setting- allowing TVAR to find the right match so dogs and adopters thrive!

directly from the local Animal Shelter into foster homes where they receive much needed love and socialization and where they are kept until adopted. We also have an invaluable Shelter Program where our volunteers spend countless hours every day at the local shelter working with the Dogs, Puppies, Cats and Kittens and the Public. For more information see our website: www.tvar.org

Firebird - Kitten Program At T var Firebird is a 5 ½ month old orange tabby male. Firebird is a spunky go-getter who can be seen zooming past you as he looks for his favorite toy to knock around. This curious boy would love to find a wonderful forever home with someone who would enjoy play time as much as he does.

TVAR’s kitten and bottle baby programs rescue kittens - some only days old - who are unable to be adopted from the shelter and place them in foster homes where they receive medical care, love and a home setting until they are healthy, able to be spayed or neutered and ready for their forever homes.

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR) Giving them Another Chance

TVAR is a locally based and volunteer run 501(c)3 animal rescue organization. We assist in saving over 1,000 animals yearly in the Tri-Valley and surrounding areas. We are celebrating just short of 30 years of saving lives with over 250 local volunteers. At TVAR, we rely solely on Public Support to fund our life saving programs. All TVAR’s foster animals go 14

Ritz Carlton San Francisco: Jean-Charles Boisset (JCB) Tasting Lounge By Mike L. McColgan, Resident since 1990

R

ecently, we enjoyed an elegant wine tasting at renowned wine owner Jean Charles Boisset’s new San Francisco tasting lounge at the iconic Ritz Carlton Hotel in San Francisco. We know (JC) as we are members of his Raymond Vineyards located in Napa. His flamboyant personality is reflected in this newly opened and opulently decorated tasting lounge. Our host today was Kelly. Her vibrant personality and impressive wine knowledge captured the beauty of all these great wines. We began with a Surrealist Brut Rose that was perfectly chilled and served from the ‘Passion Collection’ of JCB and Baccarat designed elegant stemware. These unique wine glasses can also be purchased and would make a very ‘special gift’ to any ‘lover’ of fine wine.

We then had the 2016 number 3 Pinot Noir from Russian River and JC’s Burgundy grapes. This unique blend was also served at JC’s wedding to Gina Gallo. Gina is from another powerful wine family Gallo Wine. We then enjoyed the Number 1 and 10 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley that were big, bold beautiful bottles of carefully crafted wine. To complete this ‘exceptional’ wine experience, we tasted the 2016 Surrealist Cabernet Sauvignon. It was a perfect 80/20 blend of Cabernet and Petite Verdot grapes. This wine also received a ‘100’ point rating from renowned wine critic Jeb Dunnuck and was a ‘great ending’ to a fabulous wine experience in the ‘city by the bay’. After our tasting, we enjoyed a fantastic dinner at the Pallete Tea House located in the center of Ghirardelli Square. This modern decorated San Francisco restaurant features a variety of dim sum specialities. We especially enjoyed the Honey Walnut Prawns, Fried Noodles and Chicken Wings. It is a ‘must do’ foodie experience and we look forward to returning soon. Reservations are recommended and seating is available inside or outside. Message from the Blackhawk Police Chief By Tricia England, Blackhawk Police Chief

WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS & EVACUATION Over the past few years, California has experienced a dramatic rise in both the number and severity of wildland fires. These fires have ravaged wildland-urban interface areas taking lives, destroying homes, and obliterating infrastructure. Seven of the 20 largest fires in California’s recorded history have burned in the last year, and 10 of California’s most destructive wildfires have occurred since 2015. The information included here is intended to provide Blackhawk residents with an over-view of the steps they can take to prepare themselves, their families and neighbors should an evacuation become necessary. Please heed the recommendations here; register your cellphones with the Contra Costa Community Warning System (CWS), prepare your home by removing excess fuel from around your structures and be ready to evacuate when wildfire threatens. Thank you for reading this and getting prepared for an evacuation. Whether it’s wildfire, earthquake, or other disaster, you need to be ready to evacuate on short notice or, in some cases, Shelter-in-Place. Bob For the Right Apple By Tori Draeger, Draeger’s Markets

F

all is the season for fresh apples. There are more than 100 varieties of apples grown commercially in the United States- amazing! Of those 100, the 15 most popular varieties account for 90% of what is found on the shelves at grocery stores. At Draeger’s, we work to source a good mix of those popular varieties everyone seems to know along with a few more obscure varieties for the more adventurous palate. But, before you pick your apples, there are a few good guidelines our produce experts want you to keep in mind.

Apple Buying Guidelines

Firm Factor: Pick up the apple and gently press a small area of the fruit’s skin. It should be firm to the touch. Avoid apples that are noticeably soft, discolored or indent easily when the skin is pressed. Visual Exam: As you check firmness, turn the apple completely in your hand to visually check for quality. Some marking on the fruit (like a scuff or specks) come from nature and doesn’t signal a bad apple- especially when you’re looking at organics. But nobody wants a bruised apple! Color Code: Although color is not the best indicator of a great eating apple, it can be helpful when making your selection. Apples with full color have absorbed lots of sunlight, which leads to great flavor. Aroma Matters: A fresh, high-quality apple should have a pleasant aroma. This will vary slightly by variety- some apples (like Gala) having a stronger fragrance than others. Now- Ready, Set, Select Your Variety!

Let’s Get Cooking

Baked Salmon with

Lemon Zest

By Parisa Z. Ambwani, Resident since 1983 Serves 4. Grease baking dish generously. Preheat oven to 350-degree F. • • • • • • • •

1 cup Greek style plain yogurt Zest of 1 lemon 2 cloves garlic, grated 1 ¼ teaspoon sea salt OR to taste ½ teaspoon black pepper 1 tablespoon fresh dills, chopped 2 pounds freshly caught wild salmon 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided

Garnish: • 4 cilantro (Chinese parsley) sprigs • 2 lemon wedges for garnish

In a small bowl mix the yogurt with lemon zest, garlic, salt and pepper and dill and set aside. Place the salmon, flesh side down in baking dish. Brush with 1 tablespoon olive oil and half of the yogurt-mixture. Transfer salmon to lower rack of oven. Bake for 14 minutes. Remove salmon from oven. Using a spatula, gently, flip the fish over and brush with the remaining olive oil and yogurt-mixture. Return salmon to oven and bake for 8 more minutes or until done (time depends on thickness of salmon). Test by making a small incision (cut in surface) and checking the flesh to be sure it is cooked and flaky (but not dry). Remove from oven. Carefully, transfer salmon onto serving platter. Garnish with cilantro and lemon wedges. Serve salmon with brown rice and green salad.

Endries on defense

Tales of Two Tape:

If you had asked me, at the beginning of the high school football season, which team would be 2-0 and which one would be 1-1, I would’ve said SRVHS would be 2-0. But that’s not the case; MVHS is undefeated, even after going 0-5 last season. The new head coach at Monte Vista is a former NFL running back, CJ Anderson. He is bringing the “We, not me” mantra into the building, and I have noticed the change.

QB D e Coach vitt and Ander son

The talent is there at MVHS to do something this season. Their senior tight-end, Endries, is balling like George Kittle on both sides of the ball. He’s definitely getting looks from top school scouts as well, but you can feel the loose family vibe in this team’s play and they might surprise a lot more of you.

Fat Transfer: Don’t Get Rid of it, Put it Somewhere Else By Dr. Stephen J Ronan, MD FACS

F

at transfer, also known as “fat grafting”, is the surgical process when fat is taken from one area of the body and transplanted into another area, usually one where volume is lacking or the patient desires more volume. This safe, longlasting, well-tolerated procedure produces very natural-looking results. Every year, thousands of people undergo successful fat grafting and are pleased with the outcome.

sometimes we have patients who want to address other areas of their body. There are two primary reasons why people come to us for a fat transfer consultation. The first is to enlarge and add volume to an area, most often buttocks or breasts. The second is to improve the appearance of the face, either with other facial surgery or by itself. Loss of fat is the primary cause of facial aging so you can imagine the popularity of the procedure.

Maximize Your Curb Appeal By Tiffany Stock, Real Estate Broker, Keller Williams

C

urb appeal is making the exterior of your home welcoming, attractive, and desirable to buyers. It’s about highlighting your property’s outdoor space, to make your home as appealing as possible to everyone who pulls up to your curb for the first time. First impressions really matter! According to the national association of realtors (NAR) study, 97% of realtors agree that potential buyers find curb appeal important, with 66 percent saying that buyers tend to rank it as a very important factor when considering homes.

Here are some easy fixes to help your curb appeal.

• Update the exterior paint. The color of your home is oftentimes one of the first things a buyer will notice. Faded, chipped, and flaking paint can dramatically decrease your curb appeal. • Replace or repair your old fence. Leaning and broken fences can hurt your property value. • Landscape. Simply edging, mulching the garden, and pruning the trees and hedges can transform any landscape. Did you know sharp plants take away from curb appeal? Sorry Roses. Soft edges tend to show better. Your plants and landscape should be inviting and calming. Clean and manicured yards show you care

for your home. • Wash the windows and replace broken or damaged screens. Not only do clean windows show well as buyers walk up to the house, but while inside looking outside you’d like to to see through the clean glass not notice how dirty the windows are. • How’s your front door? Clean? Does it need to be sanded? Painted, replaced? Front doors quickly begin to look worn and tired with daily use and harsh weather. It’s easy to clean the door or paint it. • Clean everything. Power wash, knock down cobwebs, replace burnt out bulbs, make sure light fixtures look nice and replace the door mat. I have earned success by always making it easier to navigate the selling process, at every step of the way — from pricing your home, to getting your property ready to sell, to marketing your listing, to leading negotiations and closing the sale. If you’re thinking of selling, give me a call. Tiffany Stock Keller Williams Danville

Crafts Corner

Halloween Inspired Craft for October By Michelle Barry, Resident since 2018

H

ave you heard of Booing? Booing is a Halloween tradition that started back in the 80’s in which you surprise a neighbor with Halloween treats during the month leading up to the holiday. It started with families sneaking treats onto neighbors’ porches after dark with a note attached saying “You’ve Been Booed”. The idea is to spread excitement leading up to Halloween, if you receive a “You’ve Been Booed” treat, then there is a note included with instructions to pay it forward. It’s all done in the name of fun and gets a buzz of excitement started in the neighborhood. Booing usually begins in late September and ends Halloween night. Booing originated in the United States and occurs in pockets all over the country. Other names for the practice include “Ghosting”, “Spooking”, “Hobgoblin”, and “The Phantom” depending on where you live, and it occurs in neighborhoods, in offices, and in nursing homes. There are a plethora of ideas on Instagram at #youvebeenbooed Pinterest is chock full of ideas for this craft too. There are an

endless number of printables to choose from. I think it would be fun to give cut-out sugar cookies in Halloween shapes, a S’mores kit, a caramel apple kit, treats for the pets, or (the traditional) a bunch of candy. If you want to stay away from candy, you could include a book, bubbles, a small pumpkin, or a small craft. Make it as unique or as simple as you like. Decorate a bag, bucket, mug or any item that can hold goodies. Get the kids involved in decorating it. There is also the adult version, “You’ve Been BOOzed!” for those families that no longer have younger children in the household. You can find inspiration on Instagram at #youvebeenboozed for this idea. Getting BOOzed usually consists of a bottle of wine adorned in Halloween garb. I hope you’ll join me in the fun! Happy October! Michelle

Dumbarton Quarry Campground on the Bay By Dave Mason, East Bay Regional Parks District

our decades in the making, Dumbarton Quarry Campground on the Bay located at the foot of Dumbarton Bridge in Fremont is now open. Reservations for camping dates are available by calling (888) 327-2757, option 2 or ONLINE at ebparks.org/ DumbartonQuarryCampground/reservations.

accessible urban parkland amenity serving the growing East Bay region’s diverse population. The 60-acre site was built without the use of taxpayer funds for $15 million by the Oliver DeSilva Company, former owner of the rock quarry that operated on the same land since the 1950s.

Located on the site of a former rock quarry that contributed to the development of much of the East Bay’s early freeways, bridges, and roads infrastructure, the campground is East Bay Regional Park District’s first urban campground developed along the San Francisco Bay and one of the newest large campgrounds opened in California in three decades.

“The public has a Bayfront local destination perfect for urban family camping and, importantly, paid for by private funding,” said Park District Director Ayn Wieskamp. “That’s an exciting reason to celebrate.”

The camp includes 63 family campsites, including 60 with full recreational vehicle (RV) hookups. Other amenities include a camp store, two shower buildings, a playground and day use area, reservable picnic sites, and access to scenic waterfront trails in Coyote Hills Regional Park and Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge. Future plans call for a special event center and 19 additional family campsites, 28 convenience cabins, and two large group camping areas. The campground development is a story of creative innovation, local reuse, and a strong public/private partnership to create a publicly

In the 1970s, DeSilva began negotiating with the East Bay Regional Park District, City of Fremont, and US Fish and Wildlife Service to convert the longstanding quarry into a public park upon the closure of aggregate mining the site. The agreement was approved by the public agencies in 1977, but the quarry did not cease operation until 2007. Plans first called to transform the 320’ below sea level quarry pit into a public recreation area with a freshwater swim lake but were not feasible due on difficulty obtaining a reliable freshwater source. Rather, the quarry pit was filled with six million cubic yards of clean dirt and fill from major construction projects in the region, including the Bart extension to San Jose, SF Central Subway Muni extension, and Hetch Hetchy water pipeline tunnel crossing the Bay,

among others. A groundbreaking ceremony for Dumbarton Quarry Campground occurred in 2015. The pit, which was heralded as the lowest quarry pit in the Western Hemisphere, took 12 years to fill. “This project represents the best of public/private partnerships and is a win for the local economy and environment. Opening this wonderful campground may have taken 40 years but it has been worth the wait,” added Director Wieskamp who has served greater Fremont, Pleasanton and Livermore for 22 years on the Park District’s Board of Directors.

Golf Destinations

Tobiano –

Deep in the Heart of British Columbia, Canada By Chuck Fox, Owner, Quintessential Golf, Resident since 2012

O

ne hundred and eighty miles north of the U.S. Border in rural British Columbia is the village of Kamloops. I knew about good golf here, but I didn’t expect to find such a stunning experience as Tobiano Golf Course. After a windy four and onehalf hour drive east from Whistler through remote mountain terrain Kamloops Lake glistens in the afternoon sun to the north. With few trees between the Trans-Canada Highway and the lake, a sweeping vista of the golf course elicits a smile. The flat-topped V-shaped clubhouse designed with deep beams and sweeping glass includes a well appointted bar with superb food. Several wood and stone ranch houses share the golf, lake, and mountain vistas beyond. It is a tranquil setting. Peak summer rates between $75-$135 are a superb value. Tobiano Golf Course Plethora of Color and Terrain

Opening for play in 2007, the popular Canadian architect Tom McBroom designed a masterful and challenging layout. Of his twelve courses in the Canada Top 100, Tobiano ranks highest. SCOREGolf ranks it as one of the top three courses in British Columbia. A links course with bentgrass greens and fairways, the conditioning is so superb it regularly receives awards. There are few tee boxes or mounds. They place tall, rusted metal tee markers in the fairway at intervals. Hence, you can cart close to the tee. The layout is frightening to higher handicappers as many tee shots require carries across deep canyons. This is especially treacherous when the winds are blowing. Fortunately, the greens are generously large. False fronts and mounded slopes greenside encourage golfers to putt from a distance. Fescue several feet high gobbles balls that miss the narrow rough. Mounded and undulating fairways alternate with wide gently sloping fairways bringing variety. Detailed hole-descriptions, complete with excellent playing suggestions on the high-quality GPS screen, can be a savior. Plateaued greens characterize several of the Par3s. They exemplify this at the seventh. Sitting on top of a hill surrounded by steep scraggly bushes, a measly five to ten yards of rough that slopes away from the green is all that protects against catastrophe. Holes eight and thirteen illustrate the treachery. They are both par 5’s with scary tee shots over deep canyons to seemingly distant and tiny fairways. On the eighth, the landing area looks like a plateaued

Holiday Jewelry Trends for 2021:

Maximalism! By Steve Padis, Padis Jewelry and The Forevermark Boutique at Broadway Plaza

I

s it just us, or do jewelry trends keep getting better and better? It makes sense when you think about it. At this point in the pandemic, our wardrobes have reached new levels of pared down, and jewelry has stepped up to instantly elevate nearly every work-from-home look. Though the fall/winter collections offer a glimmer of hope that fashion will liven up again in due time, jewelry cements its place as the head-turner of our future fall outfits. While past seasons focused on minimalist pieces (think: dainty layered necklaces), this fall, it’s all about the drama. We’re talking about bling that’s fit for an extravaganza, oversize and chunky adornments seemingly mined from the closet of Cleopatra herself. When it comes to pretty baubles, the message of the fall/winter 2021 runways is clear: let’s bring back the fun. Ahead, see the five biggest jewelry trends to know (and wear) this fall. Because we could all use something to look forward to.

Mix It Up

If there’s a surefire way to incorporate an element of surprise into your outfit with minimal effort, what could be better than (literally) mixing it up? Whether you’re mixing and matching earrings or simply combining contrasting colors, when it comes to this trend, there really are no rules!

Pearly & Fringe Delights

This season, designers threw not-so-subtle hints at anyone who’s still in denial that pearls are absolutely back. Throughout the runway shows, pearl earrings embellished with crystal fringe details were paired with layers of matching necklaces. Fringed layers of dangly crystals and pearls may have been absent from your wardrobe for some time now, but expect a triumphant return come fall. Call it boho chic.

at Broadway Plaza – a Forevermark Boutique - and Downtown Napa in addition to our San Francisco stores. We treasure the generations of families who allow us to become a part of their most precious moments. We’re here to help make gift-giving easy and stress free! Please feel to reach out if we can answer any questions and if we can be of assistance at concierge@padisjewelry.com.

Big-Time Bling

This season, it was impossible not to notice the downright in-your-face quality of the jewelry (so we meet again, maximalism!). From oversize studs to larger-than-life pendants, the overall statement on runways this season was to, well, make a statement.

Garden Party

Let’s carry a little spring into the fall, shall we? Floral elements blossomed across the fall/winter 2021 runways, some overtly garden-like, others slightly more discreet. At Simone Rocha, there were flowers printed on pearls alongside beaded flower earrings (stems and all). Badgley Mischka, on the other hand, presented a decidedly more classic floral stud. Take your pick!

Chain Reaction

The chain-link trend continues to dominate for fall/winter 2021, but with a slight twist. Whereas previous seasons featured ultra-chunky links, this time around, designers are showing range with dainty chains, mix-and-matched sizes, and colorblock iterations. Now that you’re fully prepped on the season’s best trends, you’re ready to start your holiday wish list or pick out the perfect gift! Head on over to any Padis Jewelry location and our consultants will be happy to help you pick out the perfect gift! Our team at Padis is here and ready to help with all of your holiday shopping needs both in our stores and on our website at padisjewelry.com. Be sure to join us at East Bay locations 42
