Carlene and Tony Murphy met in high school at the water fountain when they were 16 years old in Lufkin, Texas. Carlene was new in town and says she heard Tony was the big man on campus. “I saw him at the water fountain and introduced myself and asked him if he would show me around. We have been showing each other around ever since!”

Tony signed with the Cincinnati Reds right out of high school, which was an honor as he was able to help his family buy a new home. Carlene and Tony each married the love of their life at 19 years old and have been on an adventure together ever since. The early years of the marriage were filled with baseball, school and babies. They moved back to Lufkin where Tony became National Sales Manager for a major building material manufacturer. “After several visits to our California cousins we decided Danville was where we wanted to raise our family. We loaded up a U-Haul and the Texas hillbillies came to California.”

Tony went to work in the financial services business and Carlene started building houses in Blackhawk. “My white Mediterranean style home became very popular. We have been blessed to be successful in both areas.”

The Murphys are a very close family and proud of all their children and grandchildren. They get together often for celebrations and a special family trip every year! This year is the Bahamas and Key West! Carlene and Tony agreed that no article would be complete without introducing their family.

Their son Mark Murphy owns a Farmer’s Insurance Agency in the Blackhawk Office Park. “I am the proud Dad of two smart and beautiful daughters Madison and Morgan. I live in Blackhawk and have been a member of the club for the past six years and I enjoy many of the club activities, especially golf! My Dad and I were fortunate to win the Master’s Golf tournament a few years back!”

Madison Murphy, 19, will be a sophomore this year at San Diego State University. Home for the summer, she works at Melos Pizza, babysitting and as a temp for her mom’s company! “One job just isn’t enough! Can’t wait for our trip this year. It’s on my bucket list!” says Madison.

Morgan Murphy, 17, will be a senior at Monte Vista High School and hopes to attend San Diego State University with her sister when she graduates. Morgan works for Green Valley Pool, babysits her cousins and also coaches little kids soccer. “As you can see my family expects a three job minimum!”

The other half of Team Murphy is Team Foster: Sam, Melanie, Sammy and Jesse. Sam is a building contractor and develops multi-family and custom home projects

around the Bay Area. Melanie is a Financial Advisor and partners with her dad, which she loves because they get to spend so much time together.

Sammy, 13, will be in 8th grade at Charlotte Wood Middle School. He is a counselor in training with the Town of Danville summer camps. He loves soccer, biking, online gaming and actually built his own computer with his dad.

Jesse, 11, will be joining his brother at Charlotte Wood Middle School as a 6th grader. He loves sports and almost always has a ball of some sorts in his hands. Basketball, soccer, rugby and skateboarding are some of his favorites.

Melanie and Sam were married at Blackhawk Country Club in August of 2003. “What an amazing, beautiful venue and celebration that Mom and Dad put together for us. I think they had to finally kick us out and tell us the party was over.”

They live in Greenbrook and are fortunate to have family and friends so close by. The Foster family loves camping in their RV. One of their favorite spots is Sea Cliff State Beach in Aptos where spending time on the beach is only an hour and a half away.

Carlene started a Texas Hold ‘Em poker group called the “Poker Babes” 15 years ago. “We play a cash tournament with professional dealers (our husbands) every month. It is an eclectic group of women who have become great friends.”

Tony and Carlene have been members at Blackhawk for over 30 years. “We are golfers and love having the opportunity to play on these two beautiful courses. We both have served on club and golf committees including the Men’s and Women’s Classics, Master Golf Tournament and the BWGA. This is a beautiful community with so many amenities and activities. We have met so many great people that we are honored to now call our friends. To those of you who are new to Blackhawk, welcome! You are going to love it! We wouldn’t want to live any place else!”
