Would you like to see into your Future? The future of your health is no mystery. People with the same genetics with the same eating habits, generally, get the SAME diseases. You don’t have to look into a crystal ball or get a “word” to know your fate. Just take a look at your parents and take a look at your plate! A great percent of our health issues begin with what we are putting on our plates and in what proportions they appear on that plate. I believe that we are designed to eat 75% fruits and vegetables and 25% minerals, proteins and whole grains. Where did I come up with that formula? Our bodies are 75% water and 25% minerals and protein. Fruits and vegetables are water based nutrient rich food items! I based my weight loss and healthy lifestyle success on one principle—Eat three times as much fruits and vegetables as I do bread, meats and sweets. This philosophy, which I call the Power of PH Balance, has helped me to lose 70 lbs and keep it off for 5 years! During the five years I learned so much about nutrition and diet that I became a certified nutritional counselor. I also picked up a few great tips on how the body works and how you can maintain healthy weight, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels without crazy diets. Now some crazy diets DO work, mostly because they employ the principle of PH EATING but the leave off the balance part. For example: The Cabbage Soup Diet has you eating nothing but vegetable soup, for the most part, for DAYS. Your body flushes out a lot of toxins, your skin clears up, you have more energy and you lose weight. But after about 5 days of vegetable soup you NEVER want to eat another vegetable as long as you live! An unbalanced diet leads to mental and physical REBELLION against the very things that can help your body keep itself healthy.

body with the nutrients it needs to process the food that you are eating. Have you ever eaten almost an entire box of cereal? We know how this happens. You fix a pretty large bowl of cereal, WAY more than the ¾ of a cup that is recommended. You eat a majority of the cereal and still have a bit of milk left so you add some more cereal. You eat a few more spoons and now you have more cereal than milk so you add more milk. The next thing you know you are down a ½ gallon of milk and have an almost empty box of cereal. Cereal, in large quantities, is empty calories. If you ate the ¾ of a cup of cereal, a piece of fruit, a glass of juice and a glass of milk with a piece of toast (like the picture on the box) you would be FULL and have eaten ¼ of the calories. I believe that a VARIETY of nutrient rich foods trigger FULL much faster than QUANTITY. To test this theory I tried eating an entire bag of APPLES in one sitting. I ate three apples and was so full I couldn’t take another bite. But a bag of CHIPS is a different story. An open bag of chips is an empty bag! I have a bag of tips and tricks that I use and teach at Health and Wellness Classes all over the Piedmont Triad and Research Triangle Area.. Here are just a few: Drink AFTER you eat and then drink something HOT (Green Tea preferably) Eat foods that have 5 or less ingredients and no chemicals Replace the French fries and Sodas with an Apple and Water when eating out! Saves money, calories and your health! WALK—Take as many extra steps as possible. Park away from the door at Malls, Go get the butter yourself instead of sending your child to get it at the grocery store! Every extra step helps. Diet with or challenge a friend to a weight loss challenge.

A balanced diet will help you get full faster and provide the - 16 -

Walk By Faith The key element to motivation is the fire that ignites the flame giving one the push and determination to achieve ultimate success. A person’s motivation is often determined by many factors, some which include: life, family, purpose, career, education, or health. Motivation is a burning desire or the energy one needs to accomplish our purpose and our dreams. Each one of us has a purpose in this life. Regardless of what you have been told. The day you was conceived your life's purpose was developed. The fact that you have life and was birth into this world gives you purpose. However, it takes time to find it. It takes life experiences, challenges, obstacles, successes, and victories. Eventually, after years have passed by and we have sat long enough to hear our instructions from God we find our "purpose". The scary part of my life was not finding my purpose it was acting on my purpose. Over years after being given my instructions I would play double dutch with my purpose. I was jumping in and jumping out. Afraid that I would fail in spite of the success that surrounded me. In between my success as a poet, writer, and community activist I worked endless jobs to make ends meet because my "purpose" was not helping me take care of the bills completely. Each time I worked a new job I would get this overwhelming feeling that time was passing me by. I felt worthless. I felt like life was passing me by and I could literally feel a pulling on my spirit. This became a cycle in my life. Work a job, leave a job, work a job, leave a job, work a job, leave a job. This cycle continued until I had an experience with God. I had to learn that even when things got rough, or I cant see God working it doesn't mean God is not fixing the situation. It means I am suppose to rejoice, praise, worship, activate my faith and take it to a higher level. I know...I know this is hard sometimes. Trust me I know. Through endless tears, lack of sleep, anxiety, stress, and all that came along with this journey I am proud to say I never gave up on the fight. It has been hard. The road hasn't been easy, but through the divine faith and knowing God is in control I have been able to push through. Today I encourage you to push through the storms of life. Let faith "the substance of things unseen" be your guiding light and motivation to continue to push for what you believe. Find your purpose in life and don't allow time, or life itself to pass you by without you operating within your true calling. I challenge you to leap today and watch God give you wings so you can fly.

“There’s A Message in Your Tears”

a place that longs to be satisfied. Our faith often suffers as the window of belief in one day being fulfilled closes. Its easy to reject results, but its challenging to take ownership of them; especially when they are not the ones that we hoped for!

No one knows the tears that we cry in silence. Tears are often an expression of the pain that we feel inside. Pain serves as a reminder that there is something hurting us that needs our attention. Many times our pain goes untreated, leading to problems later on in unrelated areas. So often we cause emotional damage to ourselves leading to an outward manifestation of depression, anger, bitterness and sometimes even rage! No matter what we feel like; we must find resolve in our faith in God!

Disappointment is nobody’s friend; but so often it seems as though disappointment desires to be our best friend. Its seems to get increasingly difficult to shake off the shackles of disappointment at times. Its in these moments that we have to look up and see tomorrow’s sun; this will let you know that your life is not done! You have to believe and know that weeping may endure tonight; but joy comes in the morning! Its challenging to speak to our disappointment. Its challenging to see beyond the hurt that we feel. Its challenging to believe that things will get better, when all we seem to experience is much of the same! Our sense of self worth decreases as unfulfilled expectations increase. We question ourselves and we even wonder at times if we deserve what we desire as we continually go unfulfilled. The silent tears that we cry lead us into downward spirals of depression, as we wonder if we will ever be happy!

Life itself is whatever we make of it. As we transition through life, our experiences are the same yet different, because we experience similar things at different times. Life for some proves to be a series of tough times. It can seem as though failure is the only option. Its in times like these that people either fight, run, or they simply give in to the pressure. Its difficult to exist in a world where everyone is chasing something. Its challenging to exist in a society where you aren’t seen as equal due to race, gender or social economic status. Nevertheless, we have a responsibility to ourselves to make something of our life!

As we mature we have to think in retrospect. Looking back on past experience will lead us into understanding some things about our present. There are things that we lacked that impact the way ur life may be going now. The absence of certain variables needed to sustain

Tears often spring from unfulfilled expectations. The need to exist in our earnest desires often drives us to act; but we don’t always act in accordance to what is in the best interest of ourselves. Knowing that we should be prayerful in everything we do; we don’t always make prayerful decisions. Sometimes unbeknown to us, we invite pain, sorrow and sometimes even theatrical situations into our lives by following our will and not the will of God. When the expectations that we so earnestly desire don’t manifest; tears spring up from - 20 -

family seeks to destroy our very existence at times. As we examine family life today, a common denominator is the lack of strong male leadership. Its not always because there is no male in the home, sometimes there is just no leadership from the male that is there. The absence of a father is a major reason for the tears that so many men and women cry. The unexamined effects of this in the life of an individual can be devastating. It’s a father who teaches a young boy how to be a man. It’s a father who inspires his son to be the best man that he can be! It’s a father who shows his son how to respect and treat women. It’s a father who demonstrates for his daughter how a man should love her. It’s a father who teaches his daughter that her value is more than what’s on the exterior! A father is so many things to a family, that the absence of one causes problems for everyone in that family in seemingly unrelated areas! Knowing that so many fathers are absent from the family; it seems as though no one ever examines the tears that they may be crying. It may seem as though the obvious thing to assume is that they don't want to be a man. However, there may be a much deeper explanation to absentee fathers. Its hard to be what you don't know how to be. Many times we don't examine the tears that many of our absentee fathers cry. Yes there is a need for their presence; but sometimes they desire to be there, but foolish pride won't allow them to see past the hurt that they have experienced in their life. Our response to others is so often based off our own hurt, pain and emotional damage. There is a need in us all to exist in this world in right relationship with each other, but so often we don't know how to operate in that office. JUNE 2011 EDITION

pose! Pain makes us aware that there is a problem; Tears can motivate us to do something about the problem! Don't let your tears be meaningless! There is a message in your tears! So often God speaks to us through our pain. Though He is never the cause of the pain; God desires that we hear His voice and see what He is bringing to our recognition! It may not be easy to accept; but it will prove to be life changing!

Men so often cry in the dark because we are afraid to let people know we are hurting. Crying is seen as a sign of weakness. Sometimes we never realize that it takes strength to be vulnerable. Its our inability sometime to be vulnerable that keeps us from fulfilling the needs of our families and fulfilling our God given responsibility to lead. As men, our unwillingness to see beyond ourselves causes a host of problems that seek to destroy that which we know as family. The tears that we cry often stem from a need to be loved. The absence of love from our fathers can be devastating. It leaves some feeling lost, and leads others in to exploring everything but the right thing. So often our tears well up from a place that we have yet to understand. Our silent cries come out of a place that we have yet to give voice to. Sometimes the only language it knows is tears. The question for us is; are we listening to the message behind our tears? Tears are often more than just an expression of the pain that we feel inside. Those tears serve a pur2011 SUMMER MADNESS

You don’t have to cry in silence. You don’t have to hide the pain you feel in the tears that stream down your face. God has given us the ability to not only be free, but we can also overcome. We are more than conquerors; so we can be certain that before the fight begins, we have already defeated that which is in opposition against us. We have to examine ourselves and hear what God is saying through our tears. Your tears may be pointing out a problem that stems from the past that you have yet to deal with or overcome. Don’t be afraid to look deep within and examine the voids in your life that may be sabotaging your now. The first step to healing is realizing that we are wounded. Too often we treat our wounds with bandaids; but we do nothing to treat the wound, resulting in it becoming infected. Unresolved past experience will seek to destroy us if we don’t take authority over those things! It may not be easy, but its worth it!

- 21 -

Whatever seeks to make oceans of your tears, know that God can and will use your tears to irrigate the garden of your abundant blessing! Realize that your pain is meant to give notice of a problem. The tears that you cry are just temporary; but the love of God is forever! You don’t have to suffer in silence; God is waiting to restore and love you like no one can. The unfulfilled expectations that you feel are waiting to be given over to God! Those things that you have been trying to do yourself, those decisions that you made that were not prayerful, those things that you earnestly desire; God is waiting for us to allow Him to lead us into our destiny! Hear the message behind your tears. God desires to speak to YOU! Know that your tears of sorrow will be transformed into tears of joy! The joy of the Lord is our strength!

“Words 2 A Woman” There is so much more to a woman than what you see on the outside. Its easy to get lost in what you see; but its empowering to go beyond the surface and discover her greatest glory. Knowing who she truly is proves to be a journey; but no journey is to great when a man finds what he seeks. No matter what obstacles you encounter along the journey, a virtuous woman is always worth pursuing. She may not be fully aware of what God has placed in her, but she is confident in who she is and who’s she is.

For centuries women have been viewed as the weaker sex. Weak is relative to whatever area of comparison. Women are generally physically weaker then men; but they are mentally stronger, and they house the potential to influence whatever they connect with to be greater. Women of virtue carry the ability to bring life into the world. The birth canal is inside a woman. So human life manifests into the world through women. In that same regard, women hold the power to help a man birth his dreams into reality. Men hold the seed, but women house the soil. In human reproduction, men hold the seed, but women house the egg which is like soil. The combination of that seed and that egg produces another life! Likewise, a man's dreams are the seeds for his future; often it takes a woman to cultivate his seeds and birth his dreams into reality. Seeds hold the potential to be something great; but soil nurtures those seeds and manifests the greatness that's within them! The right combination of seed (MEN) and soil (women) can produce something mindblowing!

Overtime men have forgotten how important women are in our pursuit of a dream. Its true that this is a mans world; but it wouldn’t be much without a woman or a girl! Women were designed to help and improve. They were created with a purpose that is far greater than many know or believe. So many women have lost sight of just how special they really are. The disappointments that are associated with the happenings of life seemed to have diminished the light that once shined brightly within. A woman’s worth seems to have shifted from what’s within and moved to what the eyes can see. Often you’ve been mistreated, unappreciated and even abused; all because you have forgotten just how special you really are and the purpose for which God created you. Never should you allow anything to create in you an image of less than what God sees! Your value and virtue extend far beyond human comprehension; but you have to believe that and tap into the power that’s within you!

Disappointed by what didn’t work out, you have struggled to get where you are now. While struggle may seem like an injustice; to get through struggle is empowering and potentially life changing! Your - 24 -

path to where you are now hasn’t always been straight; but you managed to listen to that voice within which continually called you forward. You have faced some setbacks which seemed in the moment to be failure; but you never lost sight of what you knew God had for you! Though you thought you would never receive it; you learned that life is not about avoiding the storm, its about learning how to dance even in the rain!

You have longed to love someone who loved you with a passion that only God can create; but your belief in that one day being a reality seemed to fade as you encountered fools gold. At times your smile seemed to have faded as disappointment seemed to become your best friend; no matter how hard you tried to break free, it seemed as though disappointment was determined to pursue you. In those moments, God always reminded you that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (freedom). You found resolve in God; but you wondered if what you truly desired would ever come to fruition. In those moments God wanted you to realize that only when we delight ourselves in Him would we be granted our hearts desire. God wanted you to realize that what your heart truly desires could only come to you by way of His heart. God wanted you to understand that no good thing would He ever withhold from His children. Its with that same relentless pursuit of your hearts desire that God wanted you to pursue Him. The realization of that will change your life forever!

There comes a point in life where you must emancipate yourself away from anything that movies you into the opposite direction of God! Often you have connected yourself with those who meant you no good. In those moments Gods voice took second place to our will. Even as that mistake seemed to repeat itself; God never gave up on you! Mistakes and setbacks are just opportunities for God to prove to you who He really is, and prove to you who you really should be!

You are Gods greatest creation! No one can bring life into the world but you! Your true beauty is not in what the eyes can see; its in what God placed within you. Never lose connection with that power which resides within. Your light should be a beacon of hope for all to see. You should inspire that man who is blessed to one day call you his wife! He will see in you the glory of God, and you will see in him all that your heart desires! Always remember, you’re special in the eyes of God! No man should get to you without going through God!

Inspired by Beauty
