We don’t know about you, but when someone says the word Jamaica it instantly conjures up images of vibrant Caribbean culture running to the beat of reggae. A place where aqua waters lap white sands dappled in pretty shells; where people kick back and chill out to music on the beach; where palm trees are heavy with their crop of coconuts and the landscape lush with fruit; where hummingbirds kiss the gaudy flowers in the afternoon heat, and the night gives way to lobster feasts with rum punch.

Did we go off on a bit of a tangent there? It’s because the images are all true. Jamaica offers every bit of the effervescent island life you might imagine. So we’ve taken it upon ourselves to digitally collate some of the best bits of this culturally-rich Caribbean hot spot, and all you need to do is turn these pages and board that plane.

Tranquil Caribbean vibes, but only a short walk from the vibrant buzz of Negril; Bloody Bay is the best of both Jamaican Worlds. Host to a ribbon of white sands and lapping azure waters, as well as all sorts of beach activities, this is a must-visit beach.
What you’ll do If you want to kick back for an afternoon of reading, sunning and snoozing, then you can certainly dabble in that. But this place is famed for lively parties and water sports, so the more active in your midst won’t be short of things to do. Dip your toes in the Caribbean Sea as you parasail, kayak or glide along on a sailing boat, or dive a little deeper if you want to discover the colourful coral and sea life below. Secure your place on a white washed chaise and enjoy whichever bit of beach life here appeals. Just make sure you take an early evening stroll up to the Negril lighthouse for a fabulous view.
Why we love it West side only means one thing – stonking sunsets. After a fun filled day of paddle boarding and soaking up the rays, marvel as the sky starts blazing reds and oranges. There are certain spots on land that make for pretty good viewing, but we say this is best watched as you drift along on a boat with the sound of soft steel drums in the distance. Add a rum punch and it’s the perfect way to end a glorious day on Blood Bay beach.

Famed for its Beach scene in James Bond’s Doctor No, it’s certainly a yes on our beach bucket list. James Bond Beach is a slice of paradise on the north of Jamaica’s coastline, just ten miles from Ocho Rios on the small peninsula of Oracabessa. A panorama of moss green mountains, aqua marine waters and golden-yellow sands; Check out more top secret intel below:
What you’ll do If you’re not getting down to a Caribbean concert on the lawn, take in the stunning views around you. Why not enjoy it from a jet ski? Hope on a wave runner tour and watch the beach go by, as you drive past the extravagant celebrity escapes belonging to the likes of UB40 and the late Ian Fleming. It’s an adventure playground on the water, and prime place for indulging your inner ‘007’.
Why we love it This isn’t a shrine for James Bond fans – and there are no memorabilia stalls – but if its worthy of a James Bond shoot, then its worthy of a visit. There are subtle reminders of this iconic beach’s history, from the Flemings house to Moonrakers bar.

We can’t think of anywhere more satiating than an island with jerk seasoning and fresh seafood in abundance, so to whet your appetite, here are a few of our favourite culinary spots that will provide a true flavour of Jamaica.
If you’re looking for a little bit of luxury, make sure you enjoy a meal at the award-winning Norma’s on the Beach. In the postcard perfect resort of Negril, sit down on the shaded decking overlooking the white sands and turquoise shores and prepare for a fresh, culinary feast. At Norma’s, Caribbean flavours combine with world cuisine to create Nuevo Latino, Carib Asian and New World Caribbean dishes. Enjoy local wines and tropical cocktails that are paired with each course and rest assured that the food on offer is freshly prepared and locally sourced. A fabulous fine dining experience a cut above the rest.

When you’re in Jamaica you’re sure to be vying for a taste of real jerk chicken; it’s a Caribbean classic. It’ll be easy enough to track down, but if you want original and the best, book a table at Scotchies. Famed for its scotch bonnet hot sauce and traditional jerk spice marinade, be prepared to be blown away by flavour. Step into the vaulted hut and be welcomed with the spicy smoky aromas from the open BBQ. Your taste buds will be desperate to order before you’ve even sat down. Grilled over pimento wood and never on the coals, you get a traditional Jamaican kick. You simply have to try their jerk chicken, though we’d recommend that it be accompanied with a refreshing can of Ting; we’re sure you can handle the spice, but just in case.

Though you may be tempted to bask in the sun all day (and understandably so), if you manage to drag yourself away from the rum-punch and the sun loungers, there’s plenty of activities on offer in the vast and varied Jamaican landscape.
Climbing Dunn’s River Falls For all you intrepid explorers out there, there is no way you can visit this glorious island without spending a day by the Dunn’s River Falls. One of the Islands greatest natural attractions, these rocky waterfalls sparkle in the sun dappled forest. Just off Ochos Rios beaches, escape into the rainforest and be amazed by the towering smooth boulders and fresh waters crashing over them.
You can
even take a dip in the refreshing waters whilst the waves gently wash over you. For that extra splash of wonder, follow the springs and watch as they trickle down all the way into the Caribbean Sea.

Bobsled Ride Down Mystic Mountain We can’t step onto this Caribbean Island without acknowledging the sense of adventure that runs through its heart and soul. We all remember the Iconic Cool Runnings film based on the inspiring Jamaican Bobsled team, which is why we couldn’t resist this little adrenaline fix. Climb up to the Mystic Mountain in your very own chair lift and you’ll find one of the top attractions in Ochos Rios, if not the whole island. Powered completely by gravity, strap into your green and yellow bobsled and take in one last awe inspiring view before you soar through the luscious foliage. The speed you descend at is entirely up to you; just remember to christen your ride with that familiar chant ‘Feel di rhythm, feel di rhyme’.
Zip Lining Over Rainforest If you’d rather admire the tropical landscapes from above, stay at the top of Mystic Mountain and hook yourself onto the exhilarating Zip wire course. Following your leisurely chairlift ride up, you’ll be keen to gain some speed through the forest. Soaring over natural springs, in-between banana leaves and bowing palms, you’ll get an outstanding view of Ochos Rios and the boundless Caribbean Sea. You’ll be trained up for an hour or so and then left to enjoy the course at your own pace. Appreciating the natural beauty of the island from above however, will require no such instruction; it will simply overwhelm you.
Horseback Riding In The Sea There are many ways you can get around this beautiful island, but we have a particular favourite – on horseback. Start in the shady stables nestled in the mountains where you’ll greet your four-legged friend before hopping on and descending through Jamaica’s vast landscapes. Trot through plantations, sugar cane fields and luscious jungles before you reach the wondrous Montego Bay. As you and your horse step onto the warm sands your ride slows a little, allowing you to admire the azure waters twinkling around Half Moon Bay. And it doesn’t stop there, be prepared to wade into the sea on the horses back and effortlessly glide through the water. The combination of sun, sand and the splashing waves as you gallop through the rolling tide is guaranteed to leave a lasting impact on you.

When you’re soaking up the Jamaican rays to the sound of steel drums, there’s always an excuse to treat yourself to a beverage, no matter what time of the day; you’re in the Rum region after all...
The Pelican Bar If it’s all about location with your ice cold beer, then you’re due a visit to Jamaica’s Pelican bar. Take a boat ride out to the middle of Treasure Beach bay for some service amongst the waves. That’s right, a bar in the middle of the sea. Not every day you get a cocktail shaken up for you whilst watching your lobster dinner come out of the sea. Clamber onto this authentic bar on stilts and be transported to a dream land where beer and blue seas are all that matters.
Magaritaville There isn’t anywhere as lively as Magaritaville. What could be better than a bar overlooking the Caribbean Sea from Ochos Rios? How about that fact that this cocktail hotspot has four separate open top terraces for you to watch the sun go down. And then throw in a 100ft waterslide that takes you from the bar stalls straight into the lagoon waters. Now you’re beginning to get an idea of what Magaritaville has to offer, day and night. It’s all about late night limbos and long island ice teas. If you’re looking for a party, this place has definitely got it covered.

Ricks Café In the heart of Negril lives the life and soul of West Jamaica’s party. This vibrant bar is carved into the fishing village’s cliff tops, towering over the azure waters, providing a breath taking backdrop for your bevvies. If you’re feeling a little daring; from the pebbled terraces merged into the rock, get your pal to hold your pinacolada as you jump off the bar top into the plunging waters. Trust us, it’s liberating. Or if you’re more the type who likes to keep it chilled, grab a chair at the patio set purposely placed in the shallow pool, and keep those sun dappled toes nice and chilled (and the beers more importantly). This is a spot that enhances that already prominent sense of freedom, giving you a whole new bird’s eye view of this carefree Caribbean culture.
Pier 1 Perched over the peninsula of Montego Bay, this open top seafood bar brings all the best bits of Jamaica into one lively pier front shack. Tuck into some jerk scallops and shrimp, accompanied by a very refreshing frozen daiquiri (because grownups are allowed ice slushies too). With special events running every night, your main course will be followed by a whole lot of moving and shaking. Home to some of Jamaica’s top resident Dj’s you’ll give into pier pressure (couldn’t resist) to come on down for a Margarita the moment you hear the beats on the deck.

This is one beach that really exemplifies that authentic, laid-back Jamaican lifestyle we so love. Slightly off the beaten track on the South Western coast of Jamaica, Treasure Beach’s four distinct coves each exert their own unique charm.

What you’ll do Ripe with creativity and crafts, you will find yourself strolling passed stalls overflowing with beautiful handmade gifts, contemporary art and pieces of unique poetry. Lose yourself in a novel, or take the weight off your feet at Jack Sprat’s bar, which serves up seriously good rum punch to DJ music. There is also a load of very tasty food at Treasure Beach, from simple stone baked pizza topped with freshly caught lobster, to organic sunset dinners on a local farm..
Why we Iike it A beach adorned in locally made crafts, and a community welcoming you with open arms...what’s not to like? But we should probably also mention that Treasure Beach is home to the famous Pelican Bar; but you already know all about that place, don’t you? (You’re welcome)

If you’re looking for a little bit of local charm, head up to to the eastside harbour of Port Antonio. Perched over the Harbour cliff, Dickies Best Kept Secret is in a stellar location for seaside views. The venue however, is far from your ordinary jerk chicken shack. Knock on the door of the quaint martime inspired cottage and be welcomed in with open arms by Dickie himself. Hear his tales of the Island as he prepares you an impressive four course dish, tailored to your tastes. It almost feels as if you’re round a friend’s
house for supper, except with a load of Jamaican flair and
flavour sprinkled on top. Think lobster omelette, jerk kebabs and roasted vegetables, followed by a generous serving of rum cake.
When you’re surrounded by fresh Caribbean Sea. you’d be crazy not to treat yourself to seafood that’s come straight from the sea to your plate, and the menu at the Lobster Shack offers just that dining experience. Sat right on the ocean front, enjoy the sunset on the Ochos Rios horizon as you dine. Perched on Fishermans Bay, with no menu on display, you’re in for a taste of
truly local and
passionate cuisine. Watch the fresh lobster tails crack open, stuffed with seasonal vegetables and spices, wrapped up in foil and put on the grill. Within minutes your seafood sensation is served with a can of artisan beer.

Mixing the picture perfect Treasure Island life with a healthy dollop of both the lively and the luxurious, Round Hill Hotel provides every aspect of the Caribbean lifestyle you could want.
Location Spread over 110 acres of hillsides, beach fronts and jungle, the boutique rooms and villas are nestled on the quintessential Caribbean Coastline along from Montego Bay. Picked up in your private transfer, just half an hour from touchdown and you’ll be checking in. North West of the vibrant island boasts sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea and temperate tropical breezes. And with your very own bay and Pier within the resort, you don’t have to go far to start exploring.
Your Room The multiple light and airy windows invite in the stunning sea views – open your shutters each morning and see the sun rise over the Round Hill’s Bay. Sit out on your private patio, to take it all at any time of the day. We love the lofty ceilings, which create a spacious frame for the individually designed and effortlessly chic Ralph Lauren rooms. Stroll through the botanical pathways and find your way to your private villa, complete with your very own onsite staff. Inspired by the crest shaped private beach, Half Moon resort offers a Jamaican dream for every kind of adventurer. Famed for its prestigious crowd, this resort really is fit for a queen.…
Location Ever thought your luxury escape could begin before you’ve even arrived? Drop your bags in the Half Moon Airport lounge at Montego Bay airport and be greeted by your very own charming Concierge, ready to escort you to your private car. Within 15 minutes you will have arrived at your Half Moon haven, a resort infused with the infectious relaxed and friendly Jamaican culture.
Your Room You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing your abode, as each room, suite or cottage is elegantly and individually designed, meaning no two are the same. But whatever you go for your room will be adorned with paintings, hand woven rugs, book shelves and, in some cases, even a grand piano. You can start to imagine why this stole the hearts of the Windsor Family (particularly Cottage 1, but we didn’t tell you that).
Why we like it While the incredible suites are an alluring feature, it is the choice of adventures on the doorstep that makes Half Moon a Black Tomato favourite. We can’t think of a better way to take in the unspoilt beauty the island has to offer than on a horseback ride trotting through the azure waters, before you wade into the waters and swim alongside these graceful creatures. We’ve swum with dolphins before, but never with horses.

Jake’s is where all the best bits of authentic Jamaican culture are fused with a contemporary and tropical twist. Each property is a piece of imagination brought to life – so if you’re looking for something a little different, this is the spot for you.
Location Adding to the authentic Jamaican experience, your bolt hole is set in the heart of a lively fishing community – step away from the touristy sun spots and settle amongst the passionate residents. Poets, artists and fishermen welcome you with pride and warmth, telling stories and showing you hidden treasures. The six miles of sands are golden, the atmosphere authentic and the private coves exclusive.
Your Room Jakes is more of a community than a resort. There’s an eclectic selection of villas, each with different architecture, decor and stories. From afar you can see the blue washed villa of Octopussy, its sun-dappled day bed on the roof terrace highlighted by the drapes gently swaying in the breeze. Below, a queen size bed with patchwork quilt awaits, with a headboard doused in fairy lights, and a stain glass windows casting a rainbow.

making it a diver’s paradise.
Location Perched on the west of Jamaica in Negril Bay, just 90 minutes from the airport, The Caves is set in an area that boasts endless unexplored beauty. On the doorstep of the iconic Seven Mile Beach, you will find the hotel nestled amid fossilised limestone cliffs, with infinite ocean vistas.
Your Room Made up of 12 individual cliff top villas, the Caves are a perfect blend of luxury with Jamaica’s rustic charm. Each villa is a blue-washed, wooden structure with palm thatching; inside you’ll find ocean-inspired décor that has been designed as a calming, pastel paradise. We fell in love with the lavender painted Stardust cottage, which was bursting with hand woven rugs, cushions, authentic literature and shabby chic furniture.
Why we like it We’re about to reveal Jamaica’s best kept secret. Hidden in The Caves’ limestone cliffs is the enchanting Blackwell Rum Bar. Guided by candle light after dark, wander into the enchanting cave where you’ll discover a fully stocked bar carved into the rocks. Enjoy the natural splendours Jamaica has to offer from the greater heights of Strawberry Hill, where you will find the finest panoramic views and peaceful space rooms. This is the definition of retreat in a paradisiacal Jamaican form.
Location Perched on Jamaica’s Blue Mountains, leave the hustle and bustle behind as you retreat to quiet majestic views of the island. The leisurely drive up strawberry hill is a treat in itself, as you take in the island’s iconic landmarks, local communities, the glimmering Hope River and vibrant markets. If you’re descending onto the resident heli-pad, however, then that’s pretty spectacular too.
Your Room Made up of individual cottages, Strawberry hill immerses you in your very own Caribbean community. Each cottage is tucked away in the luscious mountain vegetation, so you feel totally at one with nature in a private and peaceful environment. With this in mind, the décor is simple and luxurious, with a paired back palette of creams and whites that allow the colourful natural setting to do the talking.
Why we like it If your private cottage doesn’t already provide enough tranquillity, one trip down the winding floral path to the resort spa will. Take yourself to one of the five airy rooms and indulge in any number of delicious treatments. The spa menu is inspired by the surrounding botanics, so for us it was an invigorating elixir coffee body scrub, which, alongside the sunrise yoga sessions, left us feeling completely rejuvenated.
