The Insider’s Guide to
The Palm Beaches
INTRODUCTION Bathed in a golden glow of Florida sunshine, Palm Beach is awash with stunning stretches of sand and sprawling seaside mansions. Touch down on this stylish corner of coastline and drink in the grandeur. Famous for attracting affluent holiday makers and ultra-rich sun seekers, Palm Beach remains one of America’s best loved beach resorts. But beyond the millionaire mansions and secret celebrity homes, there’s a whole lot more to see on this stunning slitter of land; whether you’re after world class cuisine, boutique shopping or indulgent spa treatments. Alternatively, you could just spend your days soaking up the Florida sunshine on a bleached-white beach…
Family Experiences When you’re travelling with little ones, we know how important it is to keep them entertained, and with over one hundred family friendly attractions throughout the Palm Beach area, entertained they (and you) shall be. One hundred is quite a lot, so, to help you find the very best of what’s on offer, we’ve handpicked some of our Palm Beach family favourites. It’s not all glamour, gourmet dining and boutique shopping you know… (although we love that too).
1 TURTLE TOURING The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is an exciting hub of conservation working to promote and protect Florida’s coastal ecosystems, laying special emphasis on the protection of – yep, you guessed it – Loggerhead sea turtles. Begin by getting the children thinking green with the Choose2Reuse workshop where they’ll be turning the monthly beach clean-up finds into creative masterpieces. And once they’re finished with their artistic pursuits? It’s time to get going on one of the Marinelife Center’s eco-tours, where you’ll learn about marine ecology and turtle conservation as you paddle your way through mangrove channels – a truly unique experience. Oh, and let’s not forget those adorable turtles you’ll find roaming around in the centre’s turtle yard for your viewing pleasure.
2 HANDS-ON SCIENCE Prepare to be awe inspired by what’s on offer at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium. With over 50 hands-on exhibits and both fresh and saltwater aquariums, we can guarantee you’ll be kept entertained for hours. View a galaxy far, far away in the digital planetarium and, if you’re feeling particularly brave, try out the hurricane simulator. For an underwater view, take a look at Shipwreck Cove, the centre’s 3500 gallon aquarium, where you’ll catch a glimpse of sharks and barracudas weaving in and out of an eerie shipwreck structure (well, the name had to come from somewhere). Educational and fun, what’s not to like?
3 SCENIC TRAILS Florida’s National Scenic Trail is a must for that healthy dose of adventure. Experience the unique and historic natural landscapes that span across approximately 1,000 miles (don’t worry; you don’t have to do it all). Need to give your feet a break? Kayak the waterways for a new perspective on your stunning surroundings. Florida’s Scenic Trail; a sure fire way to tire out those little legs and leave you with more time for that glass of wine when they’re tucked up in bed that bit earlier…
4 WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE Palm Beach Zoo is high up on our list of favourite family activities (well, who doesn’t like a trip to the zoo?). Look on as your children’s faces light up in awe as they watch the alligators being fed and the mysterious “wild things” show, amongst other things. You’ve also got the chance to drive through the Lion Country Safari, where you’ll get an up close and personal view of zebras and lions and even have the opportunity to feed giraffes. One experience neither you nor the kids will ever forget.
5 EXPLORE THE EVERGLADES Last but not least, it’s time to head out on a tour of Florida’s infamous Everglades. Hop aboard your airboat and begin a highly educational journey through the sawgrass marshes of this fascinating tropical wetland. If you’re lucky, you could be in with the chance of seeing snakes and alligators in their natural habitat as you listen to your personal tour guide narrating, David Attenborough style. Our tip: for the best chance of catching a glimpse of these majestic creatures, make an effort to get there in the morning before they take cover from the intense Floridian afternoon sunshine. Who can blame them?
1 ATLANTIC GRILLE, THE SEAGATE HOTEL & SPA For a good dose of atmosphere as well as some taste bud tingling dishes, the Atlantic Grille is one of our top choices. Enjoy a couple of pre-dinner drinks at the bar before making your way through the dark modern interiors of the dining room to your table. Get in amongst the action with a front row seat facing the restaurant’s busy exhibition kitchen, or set yourself up next to a giant aquarium full of fluorescent jellyfish. As well as the 450 gallon aquarium, there’s also a new 2,500 gallon shark tank in the restaurant. Dining next to these majestic creatures adds a truly unique, oceanic edge to your dining experience. Much of the seafood featured on the Seagate’s innovative menu is sourced locally and brought to life with bold flavours and culinary flair. Choose from delicious signature dishes like seafood bisque and orange chilli glazed swordfish, or opt for one of their top quality steaks – the fillet mignon with truffle fries in particular is a real treat. With a wine list featuring over 400 bottles, if you have any trouble picking out the perfect accompaniment for your meal make sure to seek help from the friendly waiting staff.
3 HMF RESTAURANT BREAKERS The new Breakers HMF restaurant gives even the highest acclaimed Floridian restaurants a run for their money. An ode to the classic Palm Beach cocktail party, the décor is the creative vision of artist Adam D Tihany, re-defining decadence through high painted ceilings, lavish furnishings, chandeliers and a 1950s style grand hall. Seriously, you’ll be blown away before you’ve even sat down. Serving up an extensive collection of well-crafted cocktails, world-class wines and gourmet and global cuisines, you’ll find the perfect pairing for each and every course. Sushi, Serrano ham, Szechuan, swordfish…the list is endless.

dinner destinations,
2 THE RESTAURANT, FOUR SEASONS PALM BEACH There are a few different dining options at the Four Seasons, but it’s the understated elegance of their main Restaurant Bar and Lounge that really stands out. Lined with classical columns and low-lit by wall-lamps, the serene atmosphere here allows you to concentrate on the main event, the fantastic food. Start off your evening in the lounge bar with a signature cocktail or two – we’d recommend the Herb Garden Mojito, made with fresh basil and mint plucked straight from the hotel herb garden, before heading into the dining area for dinner. Studded with the freshest fish and sustainable Atlantic seafood, the menu here offers up everything from Ahi Tuna Tartar to Applewood Smoked BBQ Cobia, as well mouth-watering meat dishes. And for those with a sweet tooth…well let’s just say make sure you leave room for dessert.

French favourites on La Tradition menu, veggie courses on La Saison and Le Potager d cuisine on Le Voyage. 5 THE GROVE, DELRAY This may be a small restaurant, but you’re guaranteed to find some big flavours here. Offering an intimate dining experience and some masterful dishes, (we’d recommend the octopus and/or the local swordfish) The Grove is original, inventive and without a doubt one of our favourite Palm Beach eateries. There’s a great ambiance here, helped by the soft lighting and unfinished wood décor that has you feeling settled and cosy within minutes. This place is also home to an extensive wine collection, so you’re guaranteed to find a wine to suit your dish. Located on Northeast 2nd Avenue, you’ve got the choice of indoor and outdoor dining and you can expect attentive and knowledgeable staff ready to cater to your every need.
Gold Coast Discovery A beautiful, trendy and affluent destination, Palm Beach (or should we say ‘The Gold Coast’) continues to be a favourite playground of the rich and famous. To be honest, it’s easy to see why. With a plethora of boutique shops and gourmet restaurants, this is one place that will appeal to the more discerning traveller. What’s more, there’s an infectious beach vibe that pervades the atmosphere in and around the town. So, whether you’re looking for a taste of the high life or a relaxing beach getaway, Palm Beach will be everything you need and more. Oh and guess what? Our latest itinerary has all areas covered. Get packing. COASTAL CULTURE Arriving in Palm Beach, we’ll have you whisked off to The Four Seasons Palm Beach which will serve as your luxury bolthole for the next four nights. Drop off your bags and relax by the stunning pool overlooking the beach as you acclimatise to your surroundings and bask in the eternal sunshine. Sitting pretty on South Ocean Boulevard, this hotel is perfectly positioned along the seafront whilst still being within close proximity of all the amenities on offer downtown. When you’re feeling refreshed and ready to explore, we’ll have you transported downtown to the Norton Museum of Art for a slice of culture. This museum is home to over seven thousand works of art, with anything from contemporary photography to Chinese art on show, a perfect break from the afternoon sunshine. On one of your mornings at the Four Seasons, we’ll also arrange for you to embark on a yacht cruise from Delray Beach
where you’ll wind your way along tranquil waters, between the sprawling homes of the region’s richest inhabitants and gain a unique insight into how the elite here live. When you’re back from your cruise, it’s time to hit the shops down on Worth Avenue. Lined with top name boutiques and jewellery stores this is a great place to take your credit card out for some exercise. Feeling peckish? There’s no real need to even leave the hotel. The Four Seasons’ main Restaurant Bar and Lounge truly is one of our favourite dining spots in Palm Beach. Lined with classical columns and low-lit by wall-lamps, the serene atmosphere here allows you to concentrate on the main event, the fantastic food. Studded with the freshest fish and sustainable Atlantic seafood, the menu here offers up everything from Ahi Tuna Tartar to Applewood Smoked BBQ Cobia.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS After Four Nights enjoying the impeccable service and luxury of The Four Seasons Palm Beach, we’ll have you transferred to your next port of call, the iconic Breakers hotel, where you’ll spend your remaining five nights. Built by oil magnate Henry Flagner over 100 years ago, The Breakers Palm Beach oozes class and charm. Constructed in an Italian-renaissance style, this awe inspiring building sits spectacularly well against a beautiful backdrop of verdant green gardens and the blue waves of the Atlantic Ocean. A true American Beauty.
If you can tear yourself away from this incredible resort (a hard feat in itself) we’ll have you off out on a tour of the Everglades (you’re in Florida, after all). To give you the best chance of catching a glimpse of these majestic creatures, we’ll get you there in the morning before they take cover from the intense Floridian afternoon sunshine. Now, you’ve shopped, explored galleries, marshes and waterways, what’s left to experience in Palm Beach? Well of course, it’s time for that beach down time. One of our favourites is Juno Beach. It’s a beach that has the added benefit of being located in one of Florida’s quieter districts, so if you’re seeking a day of pure relaxation without the crowds, this beach won’t disappoint. Swim in azure waters and relax on beautifully clean sands before taking a stroll along Juno Beach’s infamous pier. Due to the translucent nature of the water here (take a peek over the side and you’ll see the fish swimming below you), the pier is a popular fishing spot. As you could have guessed, there’s plenty more beaches like Juno, so we can point you in the right direction if you want to spend more time on the sand. Alternatively, you can grab a board and make the most of the incredible surfing opportunities on offer in the area. Surfing is highly popular in Palm Beach and if you head down the infamous Reef Road you could be riding waves that reach heights of 15 ft. Exciting, right?
Speaking of the outdoors, we’ve got one more adventure in store for you. Florida’s National Scenic Trail is a must for that healthy dose of adventure. Experience the unique and historic natural landscapes that span across approximately 1,000 miles (don’t worry; you don’t have to do it all). Need to give your feet a break? Kayak the waterways for a new perspective on your stunning surroundings. It’s a great way to enjoy the beautiful weather we’ve come to expect all year round in Palm Springs.
LUXURY BOL
Four Seasons With every luxury you’d expect from a Four Seasons Hotel, but with the added benefit of being nestled on the golden sands of one of Palm Beach’s most spectacular stretches of coastline, you’ll be hard pressed to find anything better. Think softly swaying palm trees, attentive staff catering to your every whim and spacious and light accommodation. Welcome to Four Seasons Palm Beach. LOCATION
Sitting pretty on South Ocean Boulevard, this hotel is perfectly positioned along the seafront whilst still being within close proximity of all the amenities on offer downtown. What’s more, those debonair characters at the Four Seasons just knew that you’d want to explore, so there’s a complimentary shuttle bus service to Worth Avenue, Norton Museum of Art and CityPlace in downtown West Palm Beach for all hotel guests. See, we told you they cater to your every whim…
YOUR ROOM
Each of the rooms at the Four Seasons is a perfect reflection of the Palm Beach lifestyle. Decorated in a palette of creams and whites, the bright and spacious rooms invite in the natural Floridian sunlight and exude a classic ‘beachy’ feel. If you opt for one of the suites, you’ll be treated to private, furnished balconies that offer panoramic ocean views. Expect beautifully finished marble bathrooms, large and comfortable beds and modern amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi. A perfectly cool retreat after a long day lounging on the beach or exploring the boutique offerings of downtown Palm Beach.
WHY WE LIKE IT
We’re all pretty big on food here at Black Tomato, and the hotel’s Atlantic Bar & Grill was a gourmet treat we won’t be forgetting in a hurry. Not only is the position absolutely perfect (imagine sampling some delicious beach food that’s been inspired by favourites from around the world whilst enjoying stunning sunset views over the Atlantic Ocean) but the general ambiance of the place is something not to be missed. Lights twinkle in the trees and the sound of the ocean can be heard above the gentle music that plays throughout the restaurant. Absolute perfection.

Our tip: opt for the Ocean Front Suites or guest rooms for the added benefit of your own private balcony with fantastic ocean views.
WHY WE LIKE IT
It’s the history of this resort and the class it entails that we loved. There’s a real feeling that you’re experiencing high society when you stay here and it’s not hard to imagine the oil magnates and socialites of 100 years ago wining and dining in the grand dining rooms and bars that have remained standing for over a century. Luxury with a pinch of historical context, what’s not to love?
