Imagine...

... waking up one morning to learn that your mommy or daddy has died.

... being a five-year-old and losing your hair because of chemotherapy and feeling too sick to play.

Experiencing death, serious illness and despair is often overwhelming, but there is always hope, and since 1996 there has been New Hope for Kids.

It’s difficult enough for adults to deal with the grief and pain associated with serious illness and death. Imagine how it would be to cope as a child. Since 1996, New Hope for Kids has helped Central Florida children and families during some of the most stressful and challenging times of their lives.

Support and hope are offered in the homelike environment of our Center for Grieving Children. Families with kids ages 3 to 18 come to us during a time of extreme vulnerability — because of the death of a loved one caused by illness, accident, murder or suicide — suddenly unsure of what the future holds. Specialized activities in peer group settings gently guide these children through the grief process. In addition, their parents or caregivers receive support, providing a whole-family healing experience.

Our Wishes for Kids Program improves the quality of life for children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. Their diagnosis can be life-changing in many ways. Medical restrictions may keep them from spending time with friends. Limitations or physical disabilities may cause isolation, reducing educational opportunities and limiting progress. Granting a child’s very special wish brings them joy for today, hope for the future, and memories to last a lifetime.

Gloria Capozzi, Volunteer & Marketing Manager for New Hope for Kids says, “We love being involved in local events like It’s Just Yoga Fest, because they help us raise funds to support our programs while educating the Central Florida community about our services.”
