Congratulations! Today is the day. You're off to try Yoga! You're off to Namaste!

You have your hands at heart center. You have your feet on the mat. You can place yourself, in any pose that you choose! You're all on your own, yet you’re never alone. And YOU are the one who'll select where you go.

You might look at all methods. Look 'em over with care. About some you might say, "I don't choose to go there." However with your heart full of love and your heart full of peace, you’ll look for the method where your stress will decrease.

Oh! The Places You'll Go!

You'll be on your way up! You'll be seeing great sights! As you try acro-yoga and soar to high heights! Or perhaps staying on land is more of your speed? Maybe Yin yoga’s meditative poses Are what you should heed! Sometimes it’s just what your body may need. Whatever you try, it’ll be best of the best. Wherever you go, it’ll top all the rest.

You may come to a place where the classes are not marked. Some windows are lighted. But mostly they're darked. A place you could challenge both your core and your mind! Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to unwind? How long do you pose? How deep are your breaths?

And when you go in, you see Warrior I, left then right... Warrior II and then Reverse Warrior… Or, maybe, not quite? Or try something mellow, just for your mind… Yoga Nidra, with CBD, is possibly more your kind. You can get so confused that you may start to pace back and forth along your path, with a question mark on your face. But during your quest, you find vinyasha, bikram, hatha, and more. And then you realize ALL roads lead to… Your Happy Place...

...where people are just posing. Posing in Cobra or maybe Tree, or how about Downward Dog? Don’t they look free? Or for a good stretch, I think cat-cow is the best. But you can’t beat a good Child’s Pose when you want a rest.

Oh, the places you'll go! There is yoga to be done! There are so many places to visit, it’s hard to select just one. Oh, the magical places you can do all your poses, a studio, a Church, a rooftop, a brewery, And even the grass, amid all the “dew”ery. Or even the beach is within your reach And when you are done, there's a very good chance you'll love it so much that you’ll buy new yoga pants. There are some power classes, down the road, hither and yon, that wear you out so much, you won't want to go on.

But on you will go And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

Kid, You'll Pose Mountains!

So... You're off to Happy Places! Today is your day! Your mountain pose is waiting. So... get on your way!

HOT YOGA

IT'S LIT

BY IJY STAFF

In our never-ending quest to educate people about different types of yoga, the IJY staff, with significant assistance from Lori Maier, an owner of an infrared yoga studio, researched the benefits of Hot Yoga for our readers. There are many physical benefits to yoga, such as:

• Increases flexibility and range of motion which may reduce risk of injury during day to day activity and other sports; • Helps to strengthen cardiovascular system and increase endurance; • Works the muscles, as well as your internal organs, glands and nervous system for a full body benefit; • Increases overall energy and helps to balance hormones; • Promotes better digestion and more sound sleep; • Burns calories and improves metabolism which promotes weight loss; • Improves coordination and body awareness; • Reduces symptoms of both chronic and acute injury; • Decreases blood pressure; • Promotes a mind-body connection for a more positive outlook and calm/balanced state of being.

Why practice Hot yoga over non-heated yoga?

As listed above, there are many benefits to practicing yoga. When you add practicing yoga in a heated room (room temperature between 95 and 105 degrees), the benefits further multiply. Practicing yoga in a heated room:

• Increases blood flow to the muscles so they are more pliable; • Increases your pulse rate and metabolism, allowing your blood vessels to become even more flexible; • Allows your body to burn more calories. • Improve the lymphatic system and aids in the elimination of toxins.

Do you mean Bikram Yoga?

No, not in this case. Please note that all Bikram Yoga is “hot” yoga, as it is practiced in a hot room. But not all “hot yoga” is Bikram. Bikram yoga is a copyrighted term, specifically pertaining to 26 poses performed in a

FEEL AMAZING

Relaxation. Decreased cortisol and increases serotonin.

Detoxification. Detoxifies 7x more than traditional saunas; detoxifies of heavy metals, radiation, and environmental toxins.

Pain Relief. Infrared heat penetrates tissue, joints, and muscles to relieve aches and pains.

Cell Health and Improved Circulation.

Stimulates the circulatory system and oxygenates the body's cells.

LOOK AMAZING

Anti Aging and Skin Purification. Infrared wavelength is the most effective wavelength for healing the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. Infrared stimulates collagen production to reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin tone.

Weight Loss. Studies have shown that benefits of an infrared sauna session can burn upwards of 600 calories while you relax! As the body works to cool itself, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories.

hot room. Hot (NON-Bikram) yoga often tends to be a flowing vinyasa style of practice, in which the teacher instructs students in a series of linked poses.

How are the Studios Heated?

Some yoga studios contain traditional forced-air heating systems, which uses ducting and vents to pump air into a room. Some use space heaters. Some studios are very humid (on purpose), while other studios control the humidity. There is no one right way to heat a room. It’s all personal preference of the user. It’s kind of like deciding if you want to vacation in Vegas during the summer (dry heat) or Orlando (humid).

Some yoga practitioners love to be in the hot, humid room, with sweat coming off everyone’s bodies. Just like walking around Disney in the summer, it often makes for an oppressively hot environment that’s stuffy and difficult to breathe in.

However, a new trend for hot yoga is using an infrared heating system. Using the infrared heat enables studios to offer an environment that’s just as hot as the forced air counterpart, but the infrared environment is much more like the “dry heat” of Vegas in the summer. It’s just as hot in the room, but the air is not humid.

You ask “How is this possible?” Instead of heating air and forcing it through a room, infrared heating systems transfer a therapeutic sun-like-warmth directly to people and objects. Infrared heat (IR) are invisible waves of heat energy provided by infrared rays that have the ability to permeate deep into your body (2-7 cm) to all layers of the body, penetrating into the inner layers of skin, tissues, muscles, nerves and bone. IR then boosts local blood circulation, which brings more healing nutrients and pain relieving components to the area, while promoting a detoxifying sweat.

Infrared heat, according to studies, allows you to eliminate about seven times more toxins than regular heat, increases circulation, reduces inflammation, improves muscle recovery, and allows you to burn more calories to aid in weight loss.

Lori Maier, the owner of Urban Om Power Yoga offers Infra-Red yoga classes in the Lake Mary area. Lori loves, as a studio owner, “To witness the power of community, support, and friendship that yoga provides.” She continues that the “growth that you experience on an emotional, mental and spiritual level are profound.” Please see our yoga studio guide for a studio in your area that offers Infra-Red yoga classes!

**Though hot yoga and infrared heat are shown to have documented health benefits for many, caution should always be exercised when exposing the body to excessive heat during pregnancy, infancy, children under the age of 13 and in the senior years to avoid dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and heat stroke. Contact your health care provider before beginning a regime of infrared exposure to assess if it is right for you.
