2021-2022 Annual Report
of Central Florida
of Central Florida
Make a difference in a student’s life in as little as an hour a week. Through a partnership with businesses and educators, Junior Achievement of Central Florida (JACF) gives young people an inside look at work readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
Dear Friends,
It is an exciting time to be part of Junior Achievement of Central Floridda (JACF). There is so much opportunity to continue to INSPIRE the next generation of young people to own their economic success through experiential learning. We are laser focused on transforming student lives by providing education that is meaningful and relevant. The past few years have shown how uncertain circumstances can bring communities together, and we were reminded how much connectedness matters.
Our unique partnership with school districts allows us to connect the community to the classroom, all while aligning to state mandated education standards making JACF a CRITICAL part of a student’s education.
As we look to the future, we are excited about the opportu-
nities to grow our partnerships with the school districts and continue to meet the needs of our students through innova tive business connections.
The JA Academy at Oak Ridge High School celebrated its final graduating class this year. We are so proud of the success of the Academy over the past 10 years; it was such a success that it was the impetus to cre ate 3DE by Junior Achievement. Locally, 3DE by Junior Achieve ment is entering its fourth year at Oak Ridge High School and Osceola High School and we are proud to announce an expansion to Ocoee High School in the 2022-2023 school year. This is the cornerstone of what education can and should be.
We invite you to join us; to gether we can make a difference in the life of a child. As Mother Theresa said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” To you, our
message is simple and sin cere — thank you for creating the ripple! Your involvement, contributions, and — most importantly — shared passion for our mission, ensures every child has the opportunity to succeed and achieve their full potential in life.
The future of our JACF students is bright, and we are honored to be working with you to fulfill our mission of inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy.
Gratefully,
Fran

of Central FloridaJunior Achievement is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their futures, and make smart academic and economic choices.
We are the recognized leader in “empowering young people to own their economic success” through volunteer-delivered, experiential learning.
Recognized by businesses, educators, and policy makers around the world, we are the premier organization for inspiring and preparing young people to become successful, contributing members of the global society and for uniting people of all nations around the common goals of creating jobs, building stable economies, and providing higher standards of living.
We at Junior Achievement are dedicated to providing a positive, enriching learning experience, free of bias and promotes greater economic opportunity and equity. Junior Achievement welcomes K-12 students, volunteers, educators, staff, and other partners and stakeholders, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, national orgin, sexual orientation, and disability, or any other legally protected characteristic.
Research shows that 1-in-5 young people who go through the Junior Achievement program end up working in the same career field as the JA volunteer they had in the program. The impact of these programs is more than teaching kids how to manage money or start a business. JA is a transformative experience for many of the students who go through it, due in large part to those volunteers who deliver our programs and serve as role models to these young people.

The Kathy King Memorial Scholarship is awarded in celebration and honor of the life of an influential leader and entrepreneur, Kathy King, former Senior Vice President of Education of Junior Achievement of Central Florida. Kathy transformed JACF through her passion for student success, business and community partnerships, and innovation, which influenced hundreds of thousands of K-12 students throughout Central Florida. Her greatest testament to the mission of Junior Achievement resulted in the nation’s first ever JA Academy for
Leadership & Entrepreneurship located at Oak Ridge High School in Orlando. Kathy King made it her mission to change the lives of countless students and inspired them to be greater than even they thought possible.
This year, the Kathy King Memorial Scholarship was awarded by JACF Board Members Fred Kittinger, UCF, and Tim Flynn, Universal Orlando, to 14 JA Academy Students: Joshua Callejas, Christy Cola, Vanessa Daceus, Alexis Hill, Jordan Howard, Alianna Martinez,
Rushna Michel, Andrea Nolasco-Garcia, George Peoples, Dyanna ReynosoAguirre, Anthony Sanchez, Vince Shi, Ava Van-Dorn Stwiszynski, and Alexis Wilkerson. These young people embody the JA Academy’s Core Tenets: Ethics, Entrepreneurship, Personal Responsibility, Leadership, Career Exploration, Social Responsibility, Democracy, and Free Enterprise.
Congratulations to everyone!
JACF Is dedicated to giving students the skills they need to compete in today’s global economy. When Central Florida’s youth succeeds, our community benefits from a strong, well-educated workforce and engaged citizens.
3DE by Junior Achievement (3DE) launched in Central Florida in 2019 at Osceola and Oak Ridge High Schools.
We are grateful to all our 2021-2022 3DE Case Challenge Business Partners who supported our 3DE schools and students this year:
3DE was developed from the success of the JA Academy at Oak Ridge High School and, through a shared vision from leaders in education, the business community, and Junior Achievement. This collection of passionate and innovative individuals united around the belief that equitable access to high quality education is the success to economic mobility. The focus was to develop public-private partnerships to systemically re-engineer education to better reflect the real world and prepare students for life beyond the classroom walls.
Case Methodology, (real-world/authentic business cases), has been proven to increase student engagement, strengthen comprehension, build critical thinking, and accelerate academic performance with a scalable platform.
This year, 3DE engaged over 150 Business Coaches (mentors) equaling 678 volunteer hours between Oak Ridge High School (OCPS) and Osceola High Schools (SDOC) — representing 22 different Business Partner organizations working and engaging with 781 3DE students between our two schools.
We are launching a third 3DE school at Ocoee High School (OCPS) in the 2022/2023 school year.
During the 2021-2022 school year, JACF delivered JA Finance Park Virtual (FPV) program for Central Florida 12th graders in Orange and Osceola high schools. Aligned with Florida educational standards, high school seniors from 30 Central Florida schools gained an understanding of how their changing finances will impact their futures after graduation, explore their
financial options and practice budgeting for various stages in their adult lives as they mature. We are excited to announce a renewed partnership with Volusia County Public Schools (VCPS), who will be launching Finance Park Entry Level for all middle schools in the 2022-2023 school year. We look forward to this expansion of our FPV programming and VCPS partnership.
Serving in the “JA in a Day” program, volunteers spend an entire school day in an elementary classroom teaching students about age-appropriate economics using topics that range from “JA Ourselves” in kindergarten all the way up to “JA Our Nation” in fifth grade. This program is a local favorite, and volunteers always leave with smiles on their faces. This year, JACF’s “JA in a Day” program served over 1,200 students with local and community volunteers.
A big thank you to our “JA in a Day” volunteering companies for making a difference one day at a time: ADP, Bridge Investment Group, EY, Florida High Tech Corridor, Seaside Bank, Walt Disney World, and Wells Fargo Bank.
This school year began with every intention of hosting a live JA Inspire event on January 27, 2022. Junior Achievement of Central Florida staff, along with our district partners in Osceola and Orange counties, were ready to welcome thousands of 8th grade students to Osceola Heritage Park and had prepared for the event all the way up to the winter holidays. In early January, however, it became clear that the Covid-19 Omicron variant was going to require a rapid change in plans.
Thanks to our quick-thinking staff and the flexibility of our districts, JACF was able to pivot to an online platform
once again for JA Inspire within a three-week window. Over 5,000 students logged in and participated in the 8th grade career fair through Google Documents. Additionally, they were able to ask and converse live with professionals from companies such as Skanska, Disney, CHEP, The Hartford, Valencia Community College, and the University of Central Florida. In addition to this live engagement component, students received classroom instruction from their teachers in topics such as career interests and aptitudes, career planning, and local economies.
Junior Achievement of Central Florida enlists volunteers from the community and the private sector to teach our curriculum in schools. Our lessons have been developed by professional educators but are accessible enough to be taught by volunteers who have never led a classroom before. By volunteering for JACF through your organization, you can be in the classroom during work hours and you can share your experience and inspire young people to pursue their dreams.
The 44th Mid-Florida Business Hall of Fame honored five forwardthinking entrepreneurs and accomplished community leaders for their contributions to our region’s economic development and their commitment to business excellence.
Our Laureates, Dick Batchelor and Beverly Seay, and Laureate Posthumous Ronald Rogers, were inducted into the MidFlorida Hall of Fame, joining over 120 other laureates since 1977. The Entrepreneurial Vanguard Award was given to Suneera Madhani. James Tharp received the Spirit of Achievement award.
Special thanks to our current sponsors for their continued support of Junior Achievement’s 44th Mid-Florida Business Hall of Fame! Empowerment Sponsor
Over 121 golfers and 15 businesses enjoyed a picture-perfect weather day at the Drive Our Future Golf Classic annual golf outing at Drive Shack-Orlando! Thank you to all of the golfers, sponsors, volunteers and staff for supporting the first outdoor event in over a year! All proceeds from Drive Our Future Golf Classic will benefit JA Academy and 3DE by Junior Achievement.
In March of 2022, 1,984 Disney VoluntEARS raised money by lacing up and throwing spares and strikes for Junior Achievement of Central Florida. The Bowl-A-Thon was held at five
different Bowling Alleys across Central Florida in March. The event has been a major fundraiser for over 30 years and Walt Disney World Resort has been a supporter for the majority of those years.
This was the first Bowl-A-Thon since the start of the pandemic and over $104,000 was raised. The funds will be used to continue the mission of Junior Achievement of Central Florida and provide young people with knowledge
and skills they need to succeed in the real world through work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.
Families of the VoluntEARS also joined in on the fun during the Bowl-A-Thon proving to be a family friendly event with a purpose.
