Thoughts on the Holy Spirit
Offered by Doug Blair, Kitchener ON, 2022 SPIRITOFHOLINESS
He is a he Remember. Not an it Or an emanating flow. But the Agency
Of Christ's nature
That His words And deeds, we might know.
First to quicken
All prayer of the moment
First to comfort And courage endue.
He was promised
At that precious Supper
On the night of betrayal
For you. Though disciples could Hardly imagine The arrival in Pentecost power.
He the Comforter Proved ever able.
Yes, able right
To this hour. He, the Guardian Of Church's actions And the Author of Holy Writ. Worthy of deepest worship. But to Jesus He sends All of it. I remember in the birthing days of Christian faith for me, that I had real difficulty identifying with the Holy Ghost. Never taught in the churches of my youth. Oh yeah, the Father did all of that delivering, guiding, protecting and providing stuff for a special lineage. And the Son told good stories and performed miracles of mercy to illustrate Heaven and the Hope of all Ages. He went all the way to a Roman gibbet. But the Spirit?
Spirit comes along beside.
Suffering Job called Him
The Daysman or advocate. That God might be approached. That problems might Be haggled through. That confidence and courage
Might arrive in Holiest of atmosphere And engagement.
Yep He’s the Standby.
Helper. Daysman. Paraclete.
Constant Friend.
Comforter.
A Person
And not a sensation Drummed up In gatherings. Now read from the Bible book of Job Chapter nine. OK? Then follow up with John chapter sixteen. Beginning to come into view.
FROMJOHN14
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
The Apostle Paul recorded in his Epistle to Ephesians (chapters 1 and 3) some prayers of hope and equipping for the saints at Ephesus. He wanted them to enter into spiritual understanding and the very knowledge of God. Not facts or histories or attributes, but rather possession in growing fashion of the mind of Christ. Holy Spirit brings this about for the searching and obedient ones. Ask Him.
