Weatherford Public Library October Event Guide 2020

Big Changes In Circulation! Hello fellow library users! October is bringing several big changes to the circulation of our materials (don’t worry, these changes are AWESOME!). The first change actually started a few weeks ago, but we never really announced it. We recently activated automatic renewals of your checked out items. What this means is two days before your items are due, the system will check to see if your items can be renewed. If they still have renewals available and no one has placed a hold on the item, the system will automatically extend your item’s due date by two weeks. If the item cannot be renewed, you will instead be sent a notice to remind you that the item is due back to the library. The second change are new library cards! Our Library Card Design Contest was a huge success and hopefully by the end of the year we will have new card designs available at the circulation desk for when you need a new card. More information on this can be found on page 6. We saved the biggest change for last! Effective October 1st Weatherford Public Library is now officially FINE FREE! This means that we will no longer be charging overdue fines for items that belong to Weatherford Public Library that were turned in after their due date. Late fines will still apply to items belonging to other PCLA library items. We hope that you enjoy these new changes that we have put in place when it comes to borrowing our materials!

Did You Know? - The cover of this month’s guide is a collage of all of the library card designs that were submitted for the contest!

Library Card Design Contest Winners September was National Library Card Sign Up Month. This year we celebrated by letting library users design our new library cards! Previously, we had one card design that everyone who signed up for a library card received. We decided that was no fun and that it was time to shake things up! The contest started August 13th where users could submit their designs for our new library cards. Submissions were accepted until September 11th. After we had all of the entries, we created a poll that ran from September 14th through the 21st where everyone was able vote on their favorite design. The top three designs will be used to create our new library cards. Winners of the contest were announced on September 23rd on our website, www.wpltx.com, and on our Facebook page.

We are excited to share with you the winning designs for our new library cards! We are in the process of getting the new cards printed. Once the new cards are available we will be sure to make an announcement on our social media pages.

Meet The Staff This month in Meet the Staff we turn our spotlight onto Dalila Noyola. Dalila is a Children’s Librarian for Weatherford Public Library. Dalila joined the library towards the beginning of 2020 after receiving her MLS in 2019. Dalila performs Virtual Storytimes on Facebook in lieu of in-person Storytime. She is responsible for ordering books for the children’s collection in fiction and nonfiction. She also assists in creating virtual programs and crafts that are engaging for children and families. Dalila assists patrons at the Reference desk with library questions such as book selection or technology assistance.

In her personal life, Dalila has been with her significant other for 8 years and has a shamelessly spoiled dog named Rue. In her free time Dalila likes to spend time with her family, bake, read, binge watch shows on Netflix, and travel. Before joining the library, Dalila was living in New Zealand where she swung on the largest canyon swing in the world and had the opportunity to pet zoo cheetahs.
