Candidate statement(300 words maximum) Write below a short critical analysis of your visual arts work. Consider some or all of the following key words to help you with your statement. Concerns Sources Influences
Context Skills Techniques
Media Scale Purpose
Process Achievements Focus
Sometimes, images tell the thoughts and stories we’re too afraid to speak. Something that may seem beautiful or peaceful can be true chaos in disguise. This idea of illusion was my inspiration during my planning and developing process in my artwork. The first piece of artwork done was to express personal details of one’s self. This led to the creation of a collage of aspects that described me as well as new techniques that were discovered such as sculpture. I researched and analyzed “How to” articles in order to improve artistic skills. This new form of media allowed me to continue to find and explore a variety of methods. Secondly, as my art improved, influences from people and personal topics contributed to the main focus and theme of my work, which as stated, is illusion. Due to this, I felt that the concerns in the lives of others as well as my own could most ideally be exposed through the use of multiple paintbrushes. This tool allowed me to use techniques such as shading and mixing colors in a more vivid way. Though, without the use of paint, specifically acrylic, these are works would not be possible. As I could use different ways to use the paint as seen in my work dealing with perspective (the white rose with multiple colors), I was able to show how my research through the internet and other artists was put to work. Though I found it difficult to correctly format the liquidly paint onto the canvas, it improved my skills for future use. These artworks have helped me develop better techniques and skills to professionally create a more lively and meaningful image. This relates back to my theme in which one only sees the outside of a situation or person and not the true potential.
