“...as the world moves on... appreciate our beautiful world even more...”

“Keep smiling, look forward.”

Marian and Arthur

Our Beauty Point community’s ‘Messages to the World’. It began as part of an Easter wish and gift to our ‘villagers’ from our thoughtful team. Where we also asked our lovely Beauty Point retirement community to tell us what words they would say and what wisdom they could share, if they were sending out ‘Messages to the World’. Then, something remarkable happened. In the midst of both Easter celebrations and social isolation quarantining… we were overwhelmed by a flood of love, encouragement, truths and resilience. It’s too special not to share. So, as well as telling you about it, we’ve created a special webpage to capture and share every marvellous message we received.

We encourage you to enjoy these comforting and caring thoughts, and, that you get the same delight from them that we did. For us, it was the caring, mindful spirit for each other as a real family that really shone through. It’s a beautiful reminder, that this is what real community is all about at Beauty Point Retirement Resort. Our friends, family, community, love and support, right round you. Here for us and us for them. And, now more than ever, this is when we all need it most.

How ‘community’ is helping us through trying times. The commitments we’re all needing to make, including the various levels of social distancing and isolation, are both teaching and reminding us how important ‘community’ is in our day to day lives. This core human need for connection and interaction, particularly with the people near and dear to us, has become patently clear with families, now forced to stay, literally, at home for weeks on end. While the same ‘stay at home’ rules apply to retirement villages, the big difference is having a close-knit, caring and connected community already around us. Beauty Point residents have neighbours they know, close to them. Well within chatting distance, in the next balcony or garden terrace. Then, there’s our village team, dropping off groceries at the door or giving everyone a check-in call, each day. This becomes an important and beneficial aspect of the inclusive and supportive retirement village community.

And, while some of Beauty Point’s resort facilities have been affected, most of our services are still available for residents to keep on enjoying, no matter what.

Physiologist, Sophie. Plus, Beauty Point’s Personal Care and HomeCare Your Way health care teams are making sure your needs are all met.

Retirement Your Way is the family owned and family run team and the driving force behind both Beauty Point Retirement Resort as well as The OASIS Peakhurst Retirement Apartments. And, why family, caring and community is a key factor with successful retirement villages.

“It was meant to be… one of my sons actually pushed me here and said, ‘Go there and visit’. I fell in love with here... and if I’m in doubt, I just look at the river and it’s beautiful and I’ve got absolutely no regrets. You don’t ever feel lonely, but if you want to get away from the madding crowd, and we can be quite madding, you just sort of take off down the path and close the door. Same token if you feel really lonely or down, you go up the path and you find people and we take good care of each other and we have a lot of fun. You get this beautiful belonging sensation. Best in life!”

George says! Family! You’ve got to love it! It may sound strange but, even with all the restrictions placed upon us, there’s one fact that’s really struck me. Our need to communicate with each other and let each other know how we feel. As you are now well aware, our Beauty Point community’s “Messages to the World” was simply a joy to behold for myself and the team. The sense of care for each other was uplifting in itself.

You Beauty! The retirement life you’ve been looking for! The retirement lifestyle with a real “aaahhhhh” factor is here, waiting for you at Beauty Point Retirement Resort. A big part of that is the fact we’re a family owned and run retirement village who believe in dealing openly with everybody as if they are all family, too. Our little extras will make life extra special for you. Our restaurant, pool and other resort facilities. Home delivered HomeCare Your Way services. All that, with the inclusive, friendly spirit of our neighbourhood. Healthcare professionals, onsite? Yes, indeed and they’re ready to help you. Knowing that has

always been a great comfort to everyone living in our village. All the community, care and choices you want now, and may need in the years to come. It’s here at Beauty Point too, delivered to you in your home. Our resort has more than beautiful gardens to stroll, relax and enjoy, when you add the most spectacular, clifftop river views you’ve ever seen. The sooner you discover Beauty Point the sooner, you’ll see. So many of our residents will tell you. It all points to Beauty Point Retirement Resort.

Beauty Point’s newest friend! Say hello to Sher Devin. We recently received a delightful message sent to our team, from one of our new residents. It’s always great to hear feedback from within our Beauty Point community, however this one really shone! It’s also great to know that we’re doing not only a good job for each of you, but that it all contributes to creating the friendly, close-knit and inclusive neighbourhood that Beauty Point is famous for. “Thank you so much for finding me such a beautiful unit. I have to pinch myself every day to make sure I am not dreaming.

Every single staff member and resident has been friendly and accommodating to me. Today as I sat on my balcony enjoying a cuppa and the morning sun on my back, I had a visitor. It was Carla, one of your carers with a delightful fruit basket. Thank you so very much. I had fresh pineapple with ricotta cheese for morning tea. Ben came late yesterday to see what was involved in the maintenance jobs I had requested. To my absolute surprise he decided to do a few jobs on the spot as he had his drill out. What a special person he is.”

“I have to pinch myself every day...” Sher

Thank you so much for those amazingly kind words, Sher. It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome you into our Beauty Point community.

Succulent terrarium Materials •

Glass terrarium, or any glass container with openings

Cactus potting mix

Sand: beach sand, building sand, pink sand, blue sand, any non-toxic sand works!

Activated carbon/charcoal

Assorted succulents: Jade plant, Hen and Chicks, Alpines

Tools •

Long tweezers: for helping place the succulents

Spoon: for scooping and patting the potting mix, sand, charcoal

Paint brush: for gently brushing the succulents of any excess dirt

Spray bottle filled with water

Choose your succulents. For the most impact, choose a few different looking succulents. You might want a few to trail over the edge of your container, a few larger focal points, and others for varying colour and texture. You might think that many succulents will outgrow your terrarium but, because of the limited soil, they shouldn’t get too large, especially if you trim them as they grow. Prepare the plants. Once you have your cuttings, allow them to sit in a cool place, out of direct sunlight for a few days. This will allow the broken ends to callus over which is a required step if you want the succulent to form roots. After these few days, you can proceed to step three. Layer the sand and charcoal. In the bottom of your glass container, layer about half an inch of sand, pushing it up in the

DAL-GO-NA - the word comes from a South Korean street food snack, which is a toffee like candy and the batter of it is very similar to the look and taste of coffee.

Make it and see what all the buzz is about! It is so simple, so yum and so satisfying! Step 1. In a mixing bowl, add coffee, sugar and warm water. Whisk it until you get soft peaks. You can use a hand blender or a stand mixer if you have one. Step 2. In a glass, add ice, milk and top it carefully with this blended mixture to create layers. That’s all. back to form a hill. Over the sand, sprinkle a very fine layer of the charcoal. The sand creates drainage for excess water and the charcoal ensures that mould, moss, and any uninvited micro-organisms do not grow and take over the planter. Layer the cactus potting mix. Layer about half an inch of this potting mix on top of the sand and charcoal and make sure to mound it up at the back like you did the sand. Spray the potting mix a few times with a spray bottle filled with ordinary tap water and you’re ready for step five. Terrarium After-care. Once all your succulents are in you’re finished! The cuttings may take a few weeks to develop roots so try to keep the terrarium in a bright area where they can form without disturbance. For after-care, the succulents will generally only need to be sprayed with water once a week or so. Each time you water them, ensure the potting mix is damp but not soaking and allow it to dry almost completely before watering again. You might also find that over time, the succulents may become a bit leggy since they’ll be trying to find more space to grow. Just cut these leggy pieces off and re-pot them outside or in new terrariums!

Mindfulness The cultivation of moment-by-moment awareness of our surrounding environment is a practice that helps us better cope with the difficult thoughts and feelings that cause us stress and anxiety in everyday life.

Mindful breathing

This exercise can be done standing up or sitting down, and pretty much anywhere at any time. If you can sit down in the meditation (lotus) position, that’s great, if not, no worries. Either way, all you have to do is be still and focus on your breath for just one minute. Start by breathing in and out slowly. One breath cycle should last for approximately 6 seconds. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, letting your breath flow effortlessly in and out of your body. Let go of your thoughts. Let go of things you have to do later today or pending projects that need your attention. Simply let thoughts rise and fall of their own accord and be at one with your breath. Purposefully watch your breath, focusing your sense of awareness on its pathway as it enters your body and fills you with life. Then watch with your awareness as it works its way up and out of your mouth and its energy dissipates into the world. If you are someone who thought they’d never be able to meditate, guess what? You are half way there already!

Mindful observation

This exercise is simple but incredibly powerful because it helps you notice and appreciate seemingly simple elements of your environment in a more profound way. The exercise is designed to connect us with the beauty of the natural environment, something that is easily missed when we are rushing around in the car or hopping on and off trains on the way to work. Choose a natural object from within your immediate environment and focus on watching it for a minute or two. This could be a flower or an insect, or even the clouds or the moon. Don’t do anything except notice the thing you are looking at. Simply relax into watching for as long as your concentration allows. Look at this object as if you are seeing it for the first time. Visually explore every aspect of its formation, and allow yourself to be consumed by its presence. Allow yourself to connect with its energy and its purpose within the natural world.

Mindful awareness

This exercise is designed to cultivate a heightened awareness and appreciation of simple daily tasks and the results they achieve. Think of something that happens every day more than once; something you take for granted, like opening a door, for example. At the very moment you touch the doorknob to open the door, stop for a moment and be mindful of where you are, how you feel in that moment and where the door will lead you. Similarly, the moment you open your computer to start work, take a moment to appreciate the hands that enable this process and the brain that facilitates your understanding of how to use the computer. These ‘touch point’ cues don’t have to be physical ones. For example: Each time you think a negative thought, you might choose to take a moment to stop, label the thought as unhelpful and release the negativity. Or, perhaps each time you smell food, you take a moment to stop and appreciate how lucky you are to have good food to eat and share with your family and friends. Choose a touch point that resonates with you today and, instead of going through your daily motions on autopilot, take occasional moments to stop and cultivate purposeful awareness of what you are doing and the blessings these actions brings to your life. Strength Balance

Side leg raises (to improve both strength and balance) Stand sideways to the bench and hold on with your right hand to support yourself. Slowly take your left leg out to your left side. Keep your back and both legs straight. Hold the position for one second then slowly lower. Repeat 8 times at first, increasing to 15. Turn around and hold on with your left hand while you raise your right leg.

Half squats (to improve leg strength) Stand facing the bench with your feet apart (about shoulder width), feet facing forward and holding on with both hands. Leaning very slightly forward, but keeping your back straight, slowly bend both legs, keeping your knees over your feet. Do not go down too far. As you return to the up position, squeeze your buttocks together. Repeat 8 times at first, increasing to 15.

How to organise like a pro

Tips from expert Marie Kondo

Easy gift ideas you can buy and send online

Give everything a home

“Does it spark joy?”

The aim of storage is to give every item a home – a designated spot for it to rest and recharge when not in use.

Making sure that all the items you own you cherish. Asking yourself this question will make it easier to get rid of items you don’t need in your life.

It’s simple – and it works! Ensuring that each one of your belongings has its own spot is the only way to maintain a tidy and clutter-free home. Clutter has nothing to do with what or how much you own – it’s the failure to put things back where they belong.

Tackle categories, not rooms Decluttering your home is a huge undertaking, so it’s important you have a plan before you get down to business. Organising room by room seems efficient, but Kondo urges you focus on categories. Think about it this way: you probably have a lot of towels scattered throughout your house. By taking stock of all your bathroom, kitchen and powder room towels at once, you can get rid of any duplicates or towels that have overstayed their welcome.

Use vertical space According to Kondo, arranging things vertically will save space and allow you to find your belongings more easily. Try storing your folded t-shirts in towers—choosing an outfit becomes a lot easier when all of your options are clearly laid out.
