In the spring issue of Bliss NOW, Just Try It columnist, Aneta Veedmont, wrote about her experience playing Disc Golf at the Underwood Golf Complex. Did you also know that Aug. 7 is National Disc Golf Day?

National Disc Golf Day began on Aug. 2, 1974 in Rochester, New York. The city decided to turn their annual Disc Golf Championship into a big national championship to see how many people across the country would show up to play. They decided to call the event the “American Flying Disc Open.” In order to attract disc golfers from around the country, the winner would receive a brand new 1974 automobile. From that day forward, each year the city would mark the first Saturday in August National Disc Golf Day. The International Olympic Committee granted it full recognition in 2015 making Disc Golf a worldwide sport for Flying Disc Sports. Disc Golf even has its own governing body! The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) is a membership-based organization that also serves as the governing body for the sport. Celebrate National Disc Golf Day at Underwood Golf Complex on Saturday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Patrons can pay $10 green fee to play a round (18 holes) of disc golf or $20 to include green fee and lunch. Not up for walking the course? You can rent a golf cart for an additional $14. Groups are limited to 4 patrons. If you can’t make it on Aug. 7, guess what … Underwood Golf Complex offers Disc Golf year-round! For $5, enjoy the game with friends, pay an additional $9 to play 9 holes with a cart or an additional $14 to play 18 holes with a cart. Scorecards and course maps are available inside the Pro Shop.
