Become a teacher at SKIES

SKIESUnlimited is looking for those who have experience in teaching activities to youth between the ages of one to 18 years of age. To become a SKIES program instructor, you must meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years of age, submit to a background check, have certifications or degree in the activity or years of experience teaching in that activity.

If you have experience in an activity, but do not have certification, you may be able to get certifications from organizations such as USA Gymnastics or USA Swim, Red Cross, or National Alliance for Youth

Sports (NAYS). Interested adults can apply online to become an instructor for gymnastics at USAJobs.com. Submit both your résumé, transcripts and answer the required questions. Interested in instructing other programs other than gymnastics? You may also submit a proposal or Statement of Work and résumé to become a contractor through SKIESUnlimited, call SKIES to find out more.

As a contractor you are self-employed, must carry professional liability insurance, go through background checks and complete the contracting process. In addition, all instructors are required to complete Army and Child and Youth services annual trainings.

Jeaneice Cox Piano Teacher Why did you choose to be a SKIES teacher? “I’m a retired military spouse and I noticed the lack of programming available for military children while overseas. I like working with military Families and providing them with accessible and affordable enrichment programming.”

Neona Mejia Dance & Gymnastics Instructor What do you find rewarding about teaching with SKIES? “I’m blessed daily by the children I work with. I continue to learn from the children as much as they learn from me. I find rewarding the importance of teaching life skills and the value of instruction, time and people are all traits that the children can take away and apply to other parts of their lives.”

Sydney Carreon Swim Instructor Do you have any advice about becoming an instructor? “SKIES is flexible with certifications, but experience is necessary. Being an instructor provides an opportunity for ongoing learning to include annual training requirements. Some of the perks of being a SKIES instructor are being able to be your own boss, choosing your own hours and teaching the types of classes you want. Instructors are encouraged to begin teaching what they are comfortable with and are welcome to branch out their programming as they progress.”
