Winner of the ‘NEC Contractor of the Year 2016’ award for industryleading work in the provision of first class health care facilities throughout Scotland. Within a 6 year programme of works with NHS Scotland, GRAHAM Construction has delivered, and is delivering projects with a capital value of £112m, comprising of differing packages of new build, refurbishment, backlog maintenance, statutory compliance and risk reduction works for NHS Health Boards across Scotland.
Dunfermline, a new Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit at Stratheden Hospital, Cupar, and a new ward at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.
Successful awards to date include:
NHS Lothian: Design and construction of site-wide redevelopment and reconfiguration works at St. John’s Hospital, Livingston.
NHS Lanarkshire: Reconfiguration and refurbishment of specific areas of Monklands Hospital, Airdrie, and across the NHS Lanarkshire estate. The GRAHAM-BAM Healthcare Partnership is delivering a four year Framework at the Ulster Hospital and the construction of a new 30,000m2 Inpatient Ward Block (IWB) marks the beginning of the extensive Phase B Redevelopment Programme. The seven storey building has been designed to achieve the highest building and infection control standards and will accommodate 4 Theatres, 3 Endoscopy suites and a robotic pharmacy on the ground floor, with four upper floors of 288 ensuite, single bedrooms within 12 inpatient wards. The 38 month construction programme will complete in Autumn 2016.
GRAHAM-BAM Healthcare Partnership has also been awarded, and is due to commence, the next project within the Framework, the Acute Services Block (ASB), by the end of 2016. This 39 month project is a 31,000m2, eight storey building providing a new Emergency Department, Assessment Unit, Specialist Wards, Inpatient Imaging Department and Support Services.

GRAHAM Construction delivered five Design and Build projects within the NHS Lanarkshire Healthcare Framework as part of the health board’s capital development programme “A Picture of Health”. In line with the client’s wishes for sustainable buildings, four of the five facilities achieved a NEAT “Excellent” rating. Primary and Social Care: Carluke Health Centre Value: £11.2m Three-storey health centre providing improved, expanded facilities for two GP practices, a dental practice and a wide range of GP led services. Kirklands Learning Disabilities Treatment Centre Value: £5.2m New 12 bed Learning Disabilities Assessment and Treatment Centre at Kirklands Hospital.
Hamilton Primary Care Centre Value: £1.2m Refurbishment and conversion of an existing office into a new Primary Care Facility. Edinburgh Care Homes Framework Client: The City of Edinburgh Council Value: £29m Status: Completed
Four residential care homes in Edinburgh were delivered as part of the City of Edinburgh Council’s ‘Living Well in Later Life’ programme. The strong partnerships formed with the client and novated design team ensured the delivery of Healthcare Excellence, continuous improvement during the delivery lifecycle and a keen appreciation of the end-users specific needs.
The Residential Care Homes included: • £7.6m Drumbrae Care Home • £7.6m Inchview Care Home • £7.6m North Merchiston Care Home
Replacing outdated and inefficient care homes, the four new, 60 bed homes were designed and built to “Secure by Design” standards incorporating the Edinburgh Sustainability Guide. All achieved a BREEAM “Very Good” rating.

The 20,000m2 Regional Oncology Centre at Belfast City Hospital is designed to provide high quality, sustainable cancer services to the population of Northern Ireland and houses radiotherapy, chemotherapy and a range of outpatients, day care and inpatient services. Accommodation includes: • • • •

GRAHAM Construction delivered several projects at the Royal Victoria Hospital under a Joint Venture agreement, including a new imaging centre and a pathology facility: Imaging Centre Value £18m
Centralised Mortuary Facility Value £3.2m
A Design and Build extension of the hospital, based on the Health Estates Performance Partnering Model. The 12,000m2, six storey, concrete frame building provides specialist facilities for a cyclotron, PET scanner, nuclear medicine, radiology intervention, MRI & CT scanning reporting and administration, teaching, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and cardiology.
This 2,500m2 design and build extension to the existing Mortuary provides facilities for a post mortem suite, a homicide suite with support accommodation, facilities for next of kin, a specialist forensic suite, cold storage for 52 bodies, an interview suite, a specialist analysis laboratory, teaching facilities and a large screened lecture theatre.

Connolly Hospital, Dublin Client: Health Service Executive (HSE) Value: €8.6m
Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown (CHB) is a major teaching hospital providing a range of services including acute medical & surgical services, acute psychiatric services, long stay care, daycare, outpatient, diagnostic and support services to a population of approximately 300,000 people. A programme of works to improve the care environment for the elderly included the €8.6m refurbishment of an existing 1950’s surgical block and extension to the existing operational hospital, providing facilities for
a respiratory medicine wing and day hospital accommodation. The respiratory wing includes several research laboratories, consulting rooms and ancillary facilities.

A new, spacious, bright entrance to the East Surrey Hospital provides a welcoming reception and retail and cafĂŠ area for patients, visitors and staff. The modernisation of the new entrance and canopy included new retail shells, the refurbishment of existing offices and waiting
areas, mechanical and electrical works installations, internal and external drainage and soft and hard external landscaping.

Castlegreen Dementia Care Home Client: The City of Edinburgh Council Value: £7m
Winner of the Dementia Service award at the Scottish Care Awards, Castlegreen Dementia Care Home in the Craigmillar district of Edinburgh, provides 60 single, ensuite bedrooms for dementia patients in 6 groups of 10. Each wing is arranged around a safe courtyard space so all circulation spaces benefit from daylight. Delivered by GRAHAM Construction within a framework to upgrade and replace older style care homes, the accommodation includes dining areas, lounges, quiet rooms, multi-function

activity rooms, offices and covered external balcony areas. BREEAM ‘Very Good’, the development was built to ‘Secure by Design’ standard.
Caird House Mental Health Residential Care Centre Client: NHS Lanarkshire Value: £7.1m
Delivered under the NHS Lanarkshire Healthcare Framework as part of its capital development programme “A Picture of Health”, this 27 bed residential care centre in Hamilton provides 12 complex mental health needs beds and 15 low secure care beds. Features of the building include: • •

Built within the live, operational site of Coathill Hospital, this design and build project was delivered under the NHS Lanarkshire Healthcare Framework as part of its capital development programme “A Picture of Health”. The building provides high quality, modern accommodation of 12 singlebedded, ensuite rooms for people with complex needs, supporting the

Barrhead Health & Care Centre Client: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and East Renfrewshire Council Value: £11.3m
Barrhead Health Centre is an award winning, mixed-use, 5,700 m2 building providing healthcare facilities to the community, and office accommodation for the local council and NHS staff. The 3-storey building provides space for GP consulting rooms, dental services, outreach staff, podiatry treatment, minor surgical procedures and meeting rooms.
NEAT ‘Excellent’, the centre is predominantly naturally ventilated and incorporates a number of sustainable design features including a ground source heat pump system.

Ordnance Unity Centre Client: The Mayor & Burgess of the London Borough of Enfield Value: ÂŁ4.4m
The demolition of the former Ordnance Road Library in Enfield has made way for a ÂŁ4.4m glass-fronted service centre housing a new library, GP surgery, dental practice and community hall. The library is located on the ground and first floors with the GP Practice sharing the ground floor space. Sharing the second floor with the dental practice, the community area is a modern space accessible in the evenings and at weekends.

Replacing an outdated, decaying building, this new development brings much needed investment to North East Enfield whilst providing essential services to local residents under one roof.

St Columba’s Hospice provides invaluable end-of-life care and support to inpatients and 3,000 home care patients in North Edinburgh and its suburbs.
Centred around two Grade B Listed buildings in a Conservation Area overlooking the Firth of Forth, the previously outdated and unsatisfactory campus has been transformed into an exceptional 30bed care facility that is recognised as a fine example of progressive vision in the UK hospice sector.
The development has been recognised by the Building Better Healthcare Awards as a national benchmark in terms of hospice care environment, and the integration of a new healthcare development into an historic, conservation site, in a manner which delivers high value for money and quality to all stakeholders.
