A WARM WELCOME
On behalf of everyone at Lochee United, Iwould like to offer a very warm and hearty welcome to the Players, Committee and Supporters of our OVD Scottish Junior Cup Quarter-Final visitors today, Arthurlie FC.
Back in the 70's and 80's our two Clubs enjoyed a very close relationship; an affinity which was established through reciprocal visits for pre-season games, accompanied, Iam reliably informed, by much socialising. Personal friendships were established back then, some of which still survive to this day, although of course Players and Committee members in both camps have changed greatly since that time.
At the beginning of Season 2003/2004 our first in the East Region Super League - we again visited Arthurlie for a pre-Season match, although on that occasion it was down to the friendship which exists between our respective Managers Frank Lynch and Eddie Wolecki. During that visit, I was profoundly impressed at the depth and warmth of the greeting which we received on the day and it is very much our pleasure to have the opportunity today to reciprocate for the hospitality and frierndship we were shown, albeit in what is a competitive match.
Arthurlie, like ourselves, joined the elite in their area - the West Region Super League - at the beginning of Season 2003/2004 and, like ourselves, have quite apparently thrived on competing at that level. They too find themselves this Season as genuine Championship contenders and, as can be seen from the League table which is printed elsewhere in this programme, with a game against leaders Pollok forthcoming, they have everything to play for.
With both teams going so well in all competitions, this afternoon's match bears all the hallmarks of being a cracker, particularly when you consider that both teams have well earned reputations for getting the ball down and playing fast free-flowing football. I hope the game is played in a good competitive and sporting manner, Ihope that it lives up to the reputations of both Clubs and lI hope you the spectators enjoy the match and your visit to Thomson Park.

ARTHURLIE
Eoiunded in 1874, Arthurlie are one of the oldest Clubs in Scottish football and indeed, along with Oueens Park, Rangers, Dumbarton and Kilmarnock are one of only 5 Clubs still in existence who enmpeted in the Scottish Cup that Season. They went on to win the Renfrewshire Cup in Season 1880/81 beating St Mirren in the Final, however in 1890, with the introduction of Professionalism they were unable to gain entry to the Scottish League and accordingly they joined the rival Scottish Federation instead.
In1896/97 Arthurlie claimed probably their most famous of scalps when they knocked out Celtic in the 1st round of the Scottish Cup, winning 4-2, however affairs were balanced somewhat the next Season following a7-0 win for Celtic in the same competition.
In 19001/02 they joined the Scottish League Division 2, gaining their best placing ever 5 Seasons later when they finished joint 2nd with Vale of Leven.
In 1937,Arthurlie got the first of their 2 Scottish Junior Cup wins with a 5-1 win against Rob Roy at Celtic Park in front of a crowd of 23,000 people.
In 1975 and again in 1977,they were the winners of the West of Scotland Cup and in 1978, they won the League Cup also.
In 1981 they came close to emulating their 1937 Scottish Cup win, losing narrowly to Pollok 1-0 in the
In 1921 they moved to their present home at Dunterlie Park, however in 1929 they resigned from the Scottish League, firstly joiing the Amateur Leagues, before achieving Junior status in 1931. final.
Success then followed in the Central League with the Division 1 title in 1986/87 followed by Premier Division titles in Seasons 1987/1988, 1988/1989 and again in 1993/94.
In 1997/98, the second of their 2 Scottish Junior Cup wins came with a 4-0 defeat of Pollok at Fir Park.
In2000/01 the present Manager Frank Lynch took over the reigns at Dunterlie and during his time at the Club they have gone on to win a Premier League and a Super League First Division Championship as wellas cup victories in the Evening Times Cup and the Central League Cup.
